We got to go back to like the early Aughts mindset, you know what I mean? Because this is a throwback. What does that even mean, though? The early Ayes. Well, like we don't get offended as quickly. Yeah, yeah, that's part of it. I was wondering that about like even just virtually everything Chris Tucker does in this movie, like is he early 2000s funny or like if somebody just watched Chris Tucker doing his stick now, would it be as funny? And I don't mean that as like a dig or a diss to him, I just genuinely wonder because everything he was saying was hilarious to me. Like just every time he spoke, you know, and I'm like, is that nostalgia or is that like, is this man just genuinely this hilarious? Like, what would people laugh the same?
I think people would. I mean, it's interesting. Yeah, I don't know. We'll see because our president likes, uh, is his favorite franchise. So he's forcing me to make a wish. But a rush hour four is different than rush hour two, you know, like this movie might still do fine, but I don't even know, you know what I mean? Like, I don't know if that's the same. Is that the same? I'm having a lot of time. The jokes didn't work for me this time. It didn't. Uh oh. The jokes didn't or the stick didn't because there's there. There is two different parts of this movie. Right. The stick. The stick. I actually, I struggle with this because Chris Tucker was my personality when I was younger. Like, literally, my boy's just hot pitch. Like, you know, my friends would come around screaming, come on, man, come on, man, come on. Because that's how my voice out it and watching him in this movie, I think it did disservice to Chris Tucker. I know he's the first black man to make $20 million. I do. I do. And I say that because I say that because every
thing he was building towards like, and again, I did not want to feel this way. Money talks. The beauty of money talks is that he was street smart, but he was smart as fuck. Like, he was, he was crafty. He figured everything out. He was smarter than Charlie Sheen and points and money talks. His next movie after that is rush hour rush hour. Everyone plays him like he's dumb. But again, he's very street smart and he's not an idiot. Like, he's not an idiot. The big key is like, he figures out so much shit in the first rush hour. And in this one from the moment he shows up, he is just, I think maybe I have to struggle with it. He's on vacation, man. He's like vacation. He's not he's not doing the detective stuff. No, it's not, it's not about him not doing detective work because he does be like, yo, chase the rich white man, which I'm a firm believer. Pants. Firm. Fever. When you're on his detective work, he says, well, you know, think about it, Brayton. He's about to see one of these movies. And I'm like, well, the bad guy has got to be that white dude. Every, every single time the movie starts this movie did that for you. Like this series is why you
why is this why is this random thing? Why you doing this movie? Is that dude? Always is. I just think he just wasn't smart. And I don't know why I struggle with that. I just felt like, what's he not smarter? What's a culture shock? You know, no, no, he was dumb when he got back when he was in the scenes with Don Chito. He was dumb. Like, he was always dumb. And I hate. That's it. Okay. No, I'm interested to talk about it because I he might have been. I'm not saying that he's that he's not. I he just didn't read that way to me. So I'm wondering, yeah, when we get into the actual scenes, I'm wondering again, last time I say, I get I am shocked to have to take, but the thing I think is so genius about Eddie Murphy and all the belly Hills cop is like, Eddie Murphy is funny, but he is super fucking smart. It's like like he's always ahead. People play him for dumb because he's so joky, but he's really smart. And I think that's what Chris Tucker was in the first one. That's who he was and when he talks. And I don't think he was that person this way. You don't think you feel like they didn't think it through for the second one. They
just kind of made him. They were just like following the jokes. Yeah, which is what I get, man, you know, it's totally fine. It just it just shocked me to feel that way now. But you know, sometimes you don't take your time. You just rush hour to things don't turn out the same. Yeah. Okay, wait, break. And I was like, what I thought you was going to say. Drought turned off his video. Drought's not in the park as anymore. Bray, this is what I thought you're going to say. You said that Jorah was doing his initial thoughts in the in the cold open. And I thought you're going to say that he was he it was like it's rush hour two for hit like he. Yeah, I want it. I wanted to go there, but he just he kept talking and I I was like, Oh, he's going to be so mad. I just interrupt this flow state. So I let it go. Okay, it's weird. It's weird. I like let I actually pause and I didn't rush hour.
I think it can be a verb. Honestly, like the more I think about it, you know, yeah, we just start to show. But why but why are we got to rush hour two? Oh my god. Oh my god. All right, start this show. Oh, John. Relax. James the first. Drought. Welcome to black men can't jump in Hollywood Hollywood city. Damn. He's going to be in rush hour three. Yeah, it's so funny that a line that's not in the movie became the most popular line from that movie. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I literally remember I was like, why is it like this was the most memorable? Everybody remembered that. Everybody was like, oh, it was so funny when he said
dam he's not going to be rush hour three. And it's like, that's in the outtake. It's the last outtake. It's the last outtake. And it was clear. The audience erupted. I was remembered the audience erupting. It's true. The audience did everybody die. Yeah. We loved Chris Tucker so much that he could say and do anything, including D rail an entire shot for no reason. D railing shot for no reason. That that staged phone call in the middle of that scene. That staged phone call in the credits. Why did he do a staged phone call? All right. To put it in the blooper reels, they knew that was going to be the new everybody wanted to see that. I miss blooper reels. I say bring it back. I'm glad they did it for a union custody. Yeah, because that was honestly one of the best parts of it. That's right. Hey, so thanks for listening to this podcast. You know what this is? We're a film review podcast.
We review the films of leading black actors. We talk about them in the context of race and diversity in Hollywood. There are three of us that post this. The voice that you're listening to right now. That also just I would I would try to be you know, it wouldn't be a little red book. Now it would be a phone. But I just be like, what's this person saying? That's definitely bright. That's me. And I try to try to do it in front of the person. I don't know any Mandarin. I realized I don't I couldn't even pretend to do. I was about to say something that I realized it was career. Wow. I was like, wait, that's not. Yeah. And it's at least the subtitles were like, this is Cantonese. Like they were like, that's what they're right. Oh right, because they're in Hong Kong. Anyway, this is Jonathan Braylock. Anyway, this voice is out of the draw, I'm elegant. And this voice is James III. Nice.
Today we are reviewing Rush Hour 2 because you the listeners voted for it. This is our sequel. What did we what did you say it was? It was just they had sequels to choose from. So Beverly Hills cop three. It was this was out of Beverly Hills cop three men in black three and rush hour to and rush hour two. Yeah, because we've done rush hour three I think, which is crazy. And I was like, well, there's no way we've done. Yeah, wait, wait, why did we do? How do we skip this? We do rush hour three and not two. I might be wrong, but I remember looking and I was like, I feel like I wouldn't put it past. I wouldn't put it past. Yeah, probably that we watched too already. Actually, now that now that we're talking, we've done Beverly Hills cop, Axel Foley, but we haven't done Beverly Hills cop three. But we haven't done three exactly because we didn't want to because and clearly neither does our audience want to know. I mean, arguably, universally, pay us one of all. Really? Anyway, but not this rush hour two,
I mean, well, shall we get into some facts? That's getting into those facts. Okay. So obviously it stars Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan, directed by Brett Ratner. Remember him? RIP. He's back. You didn't know he back. All right. He's back. Yeah, man. He directed. Lonnie. He directed. Lonnie. And he is the one directing the fourth one. Well, of course, that's why they did. Wait, Melania. Yeah. Yeah. Melania. He did the Melania movie. Had a documentary that came out funded. Not funded by the government. Don't tell me you don't know about this. Melania. No, I actually don't. Sorry. Wait, no, no. Documentary about Melania. Did it come out last year? About the first lady. It might have been. Is it this year? This year, last year, recently, recently. And it was like coming out. I feel like it was on its way out when Trump was like, we gotta do a rush hour for him. Like when Trump was like, we're definitely doing rush hour for him. Oh, right. Brett Ratner was like, I'll do this doc if you green light.
If you get rush hour for a green light. And I will say, we are very aware of Brett Ratner and the allegations surrounding him. I personally don't know enough to like really address him. So I just what we know that Olivia Munnall, like respectfully, like he is a trash human. We will never compliment this man. We know it. We're talking about rush hour two. We're talking about rush hour two. Yeah, we're talking about the movie. That's what James said. We're talking about rush hour two. I just like to say, people are like, how are you promoting? And he's just like, no, no, I'm not promoting him in any way, shape or form. Just me. This movie made its mother-in-law. He's shaped. We're not promoting anything. Everybody knows what rush hour two. The film had a budget of $90 million. It made $347 million. It was a smash hit. Everybody knows it was a smash hit because rush hour was a smash hit. Yep. Yep. Came out in 2001.
Let's see. What do we got on Rotten Bay Dose? What do we, what do you guys think? Oh. 70s, 90s. I don't know. Four critics or audience. Critics. You think 90s for rush hour two? I don't know. The critics. I would say 70s, 74. 50%. Damn. I wonder if it was that low. I wonder if it was that low when it came out. I bet it's gotten lower since. Come on critics. Popcorn meter 74. There it is. Okay. All right. That's fair. Yeah. I bet it got what you know that companies tend to comedies tend to dip over time. Because in terms of Rotten Tomatoes, because like Rotten Tomatoes, they just let people keep reviewing a movie like like way long after it's come out. Yeah. And then people are they can't. Yeah. So first one 62%
and then 79% popcorn meter. Which still feels kind of low. It's what it low. Yeah. You know, I mean, look, they're they're blockbuster films. They're they are. There's nothing that new about rush hour, but it is a bunch of things that people really like. Got a buddy cop film, right? You got a fast talking black man. Yeah. You got, you know, race jokes. You got Jackie Chan and cool action. Yeah. Great. Yeah, but very attractive woman. Two to be exact. You know, two very attractive women in this film. I mean, there are a lot of attractive women in this film, but yes, but you know, like, yeah, parts. I guess. But yeah, but two characters main characters. Yes. Stop wasting your nights on a mattress that doesn't get you. Experience the most comfortable mattress in the world.

There we get into initial thoughts. No, I don't think so. Did you rush? I should go, I guess I did, man. I was like, yeah, you can't. You're like, you're like, you're wonderful. Spoon. I just didn't expect to judge. Y'all boy, y'all boyed it out. So I was like, oh, yeah, I just didn't expect to dislike the representation of Chris Tucker in movie. I thought the movie was fun. I think, I think they were like a lot of callbacks, maybe too many callbacks.
Damn, did I not like this movie? No, I like it. Yeah. I don't know. Come back. Well, the question is, did you like it back then? Did you like it back? It's okay to not like it now. Everything Chris Tucker did, I was a fan. Like, did he is back in the day? Don't you, when I didn't like, was the third one. And I think I was old enough then to be like, this one feels different. I do remember that. You know, the third one came out in like, too late. I think 2006 or 2007. It was after he was a pack. It was coming back. It was coming back. It was a sunny one because he left it. That's the next one. In my mind, that movie came out in like, 2013. And it, 2007 is a long time, but it's not that long. You know what I mean? Like just six years after it felt, but I remember when it came out, it felt like, damn, they're bringing this back. It did. It really did feel like, like too long. It felt like too much time had passed. It was weirdly like too much time, but also like not enough time.
You know what I mean? Because sometimes you're like, I need a really long time. Like, top gun Maverick. You know what I mean? It's like, I need a, I need a really long time for you to bring this back. Or you bring it back in two to three years. Otherwise, otherwise, yeah. Like, that's a weird six years. It was like, we moved past this. We're like, we're moving past that kind of comedy. And so when it came back, it was like, oh, I think we're not, we're not into this now. Yeah. Anyway, but we're talking about rush hour two though. 100%. Just came three years after our first one. The way I was thinking. I'll say, I'll drive away or we did you tell? I'm done. Oh, he's done. Okay. I'll say like in watching this, those couple things that you just, that you highlighted or highlight, highlight it. What do you say? What's the thing? Highlight it. That you highlight were were the things that I was feeling when I was watching it too. Like, I did feel like, oh, like, you know,
he's not doing the same kind of like street smart thing that I was doing before. But it's the, it's the fish out of water thing. Like, like they, they did do it on purpose. Like now we're going to see him in Hong Kong and like, and now he's the, the person that doesn't belong, which is where Jackie Chan was in the first movie. But it like, I don't know, watching it now and we didn't think about it in terms of the podcast. It does kind of stick out. You're like, oh, he's not, it's not quite doing the same stuff as before. And then, and then the callback stuck out this time too. Like the, like, I remember the ending feeling so funny in the theater at the time. And then now it's just like, oh, they just, they just needed to fall again or so. You know, like it was, like, they were just like trying to do some of the same stuff. But that being said, I still like, everything Chris Tucker was doing was making me laugh. All of the physical comedy from Jackie Chan was making me laugh. I appreciate, I still appreciate the friendship of the two guys and the, like, the heart of the,
of the father, you know, like the, oh, you got to go after your daddy's, your daddy's killer. Kat was not watching this with me, but she happened to sit down right during the, like, come on, Lee, you can't shoot him. Don't shoot him Lee. And then to the flip of shoot him Lee, shoot his ass. At that the end. And she, you know, like, is just doing her work, but like laughing throughout all of that. So I mean, I don't know, like, like, uh, uh, yeah, I still, I still had a good time, uh, watching it. And I, and I genuinely wonder if some of that is nostalgia or not. So I'm excited to talk about it. Or, uh, you know, yeah. Yeah, I said, I think I'm, I think I'm where James is. Like, I wasn't blown away by it, but like, I had a good time. There was, there were moments where like, and I do know what you mean because Chris Tucker, character is so obnoxious, but he is obnoxious in the first movie.
He's like, he's just so obnoxious and like, so like, just tries to talk his way out of everything. And it's like, at certain points, you're just like, oh my god, like, shut up. Yes. Yes. But it's funny. Like, I honestly, the thing that I was thinking about the most when watching this movie was like how I, this is the dumb thing to say. And yet, I still feel that I need to say it. I still think Jackie Chan is underrated and underbreeding. I, wait, I thought the scene, I like things. Yes, he has a star in the Hollywood, I'll have fame. Like, he was in Saudi movies. Everybody knows who Jackie Chan is. But it's just like the amount of, and I love that they did the outtakes to show like, hey man, he was doing all of his own stunts. Like, this dude was so cool. Like his brand of martial arts and comedy, we never got it before and we'll never get it again.
It was just one of a kind. Like, a lot of people can do great martial art. There's other obviously like, there's Bruce Lee, right? There's Jet Lee, there's Donnie Yen, there's a lot of great like, martial artists who've done a amount of films. But like, nobody has been able to mix in the comedy the way that Jackie Chan does and like, invent some moves that are like so fun. Like him just like, you know, like whatever, like putting like a, like getting like a box on his shoe. Like, and then all of a sudden that becomes a weapon. Like, he does all, like does stuff that like that all the time. And it's just so fun to watch. And I remember like, I didn't remember the plot of this movie and that's things are happening. I was just like, oh, okay. And then I remember thinking like, this whole thing is about like counterfeit money. That's like, who cares about this? Like it's so. It's just like, it's just like, whatever. Like they just had to fill it, but it is fun. Also the fact that the secret service would be doing it. And she had a badge. I know. I was like, see good service. What happened to this also like, what happened to the CIA? I understand they went back to America and technically the CIA is not allowed to conduct
business on American soil. But do we believe that that really is true? Anyway, I guess that was a different time. But anyway, it was just like, and also I kind of like, I was like, I missed like why they were in America now. And other than like the fact that they were like, we can't film this whole movie in Hong Kong. But yeah, it was fun. It was fun. And like, you know, I love that like all of a sudden like, Chris Tucker is also like an expert martial artist like in this movie. Like because he kind of was it in the first movie in this movie all of a sudden he's just like kicking butt like at the same level of Jackie Chan. You're like, how? But it was fun. It's fun. It's fun. It's a fun blockbuster, you know. Nothing here. But I, I, I, I think the comedy, it definitely, I definitely thought it was funnier 20 years ago.
Damn 20 years. Well, actually, it's 25. Damn. It's actually his 25th anniversary. Wow. And look at that. And that's why we did it. And that's why we did it. Yeah. That's why we did it. 25th anniversary of a fresh hour. Wow. Fresh hour too. I mean, I was, I mean, you know, but we'll say thinking about just Chris Tucker in particular, you know, I said in the beginning, but he was the first black man to ever get 20 million dollars for a movie, which was, I mean, back in those days. I mean, they don't even, they really do that now. But back in those days, which was it? It was a fresh hour. It was this one. This one. This one. Yeah. That's why the, that's why the budget is 90, 90 million is like a hefty budget. But yeah. But you're so right about Jackie Chan. Because Jackie Chan, like botami's making these movies, he is by Hollywood standards and older man. Like he is, he is, he is an older man still doing these stunts, which is crazy. And after this, he goes on his run of like Shanghai night, Sinaldi's other movies. And I'm like the Tuxedo. Like so he's just cooking as like a 50, 60 year old man just fucking do a martial arts.
And what's funny about this movie is Jackie, the Jackie Chan stunt school is, is a very, I guess, important place, especially when it comes to like stunts and movies. And they're like, like the best place to go on them. Like man, this dude's legacy is so massive. But I feel like generations now, even millennials, when they stand, don't appreciate what this man did. Like I just feel like they just don't know or appreciate what he did. Because I'm like, if they do another rush hour, he can't do that stuff now. Right. So it's like you'd have to be in the Kevin, I mean like the John Wick kind of fighting of like close and like whatever. Yeah. I'm like, also, it's so interesting. I want, and I didn't reckon, I think we talked about this with Beverly Hills cop. I think one of the things that really, maybe this is the thing that made me upset is that Chris Tucker is not sexy in this movie. Now, hear me out. He has handsome. He looks good. And it's got a shirt off. So hear me out. So this is my thing. I didn't think about it until it was like some article came out about like, you know,
early Will Smith movies, like Eddie Murphy movies, like notoriously, they took out the love scene, the Beverly Hills cop, things that happened with Denzel. And I'm looking at this movie like he is very handsome. He is at the peak. He put on muscle for this. But he doesn't get a love interest. And I'm like, there are so many of these movies where the dude, the black dude in particular, like Will Smith and bad boys, Will Smith and our robot, like all the time, season this movie and they normally will hit on like the lead beautiful actors in the movie. And they always are seen as like silly or not the love interest. And I'm watching this movie and I'm like, this is the, this is the peak of Chris Tucker, baby. Like my man is muscular, you know what I'm saying? He tells you in the movie. You know, you know, love interest. The only time we even get a love interest now is if a black person makes it. Like Michael B gets to be the love interest, bro. Fucking damson in that race and movie had a whole love interest supply. They cut her out to got that movie.
Yeah. What is happening? Like what is going on? And then like even in bad boys too with Gabby Union, because we're on that basis, Gabby Union, it's like he has to pretend to not like her because, because this marks his little sister and like can't even, they don't even really get romantic moments for that reason as well. Literally, it has to be the only to be true to be honest. I don't know why this bothered me so much, but it always about truly feel like I've seen a black dude get to be hot and sexy as Michael B and that is recent. That is like, that is truly recently in movies. Like sinners, he gets to be the whatever, whatever twice in his new movie that he is making. He gets to wear the good suit and he gets to be the handsome, whatever do. And I'm like, why when it's like the funny, smart black dude, they don't get to be handsome. Or they don't get to be like hot or love interest. Yeah. I mean, they definitely, he didn't have a love interest. I think he, I think he,
I think he got to be sexy in the movie because he's like, you know, he's like doing his Michael Jackson thing and the girl and the old ladies are around him and he's you know, in a bathroom and getting massaged and he's like, has a shirt off or whatever. Like, I think he got to be sexy, but you're right. He didn't get a love interest and he doesn't, he has anybody on the phone. No, he just, he just gets rejected. And we'll step a sex symbol in the bad boys movies. He's defa sex symbol in all, in all of them. Sex symbol, but you know, he doesn't get into the later movie. Do they have him be like he gets married in that last one. And then even that one, they're like, never like, let's keep away from his wife. They have to be fair. I saw the fast and the furious again. That also came out 2001 same year as rush hour, or rush hour two and Paul Walker got the girl. Like got it, like, you know, that was the spot. The big plot point is I'm falling in love with his sister.
Yeah. I don't know why bothers me. I'm just saying. It kind of like cuts, but like, yeah, it is. There is some intention to, I feel like we've talked about this to a degree with that stuff, but there is intention to it, you know, like it is, it is deliberate. There are like, you know, people that don't think that black relationships would test well or in the case of interracial, interracial, what test well, you know. And it's just like, yeah, go ahead. I was just going to say, I was going to say the same since we're doing rush hour two is true for Jackie Chan. Because even in this movie where he had, he technically has a love interest, we don't really ever see them. We barely ever see them together, right? And there's no love developing. There's like a hint at it, you know. So like the same was true for Jackie, I think in pretty much all of his movies, it was like similar. He didn't really have a love interest, you know. At least he did in his, maybe he's the Chinese films that he did.
Yeah, that the Americans and he always just paired up like the Tuxedo. He's like in these movies. And I don't know again, I think it wouldn't bother me if they didn't actively make the lead person of color hit on the woman and is usually like a fairer skin or white woman just to like constantly be like, rejected. I'm like, what are we, what are we saying? Like what, like what is this saying? So yeah. You know what they're saying. Yeah, right. I know what they're saying. I know what they're saying. I don't know what they're saying. Yeah. So, but anyway, shall we get into it rush hour two? Yeah, absolutely. So yeah, we're in, well, this movie starts off with the bombing. Oh, right. An embassy. I'm glad those things don't happen anymore. Sorry, I shouldn't say that. They're clearly happening in other parts of the world. But they're, I feel like there was a time where we were really scared of like, people just bombing stuff. Just, mm-hmm. But you're just something randomly going off.
Yeah. Yeah, that's real. That's real. That's real. And unfortunately, he does happen in other parts of the world. So, uh, anyway, this, uh, yeah, the US Embassy is bombed. The US Embassy in Hong Kong is bombed. And, uh, but our two detectives, they're on vacation. But they're not actually on vacation. No Jackie keeps working. Jackie keeps working in case. Keeps working. I know. I shouldn't talk about this every single time, but did you take another damn case while I just started laughing? I mean, like, you take another damn case like that's all these like, I've been here in how many cases. Yeah, exactly, exactly. And not to be frustrated, that's for sure. Oh my god. I love this little red book that he has with just like, how could you possibly learn? Listen, man, try it. Possibly learn another. Listen, listen, he'd have a phone with his child.
Yeah, he's stringing together sentences by flipping from page to page. It's just such a funny visual. I'm trying to remember how they get on the case. Like, what was the first before karaoke? What was the? Oh, basically, um, is they get a phone, he gets a phone call. Jackie Chan gets a phone call about Ricky Tan. Ricky Tan, yeah, Ricky Tan. And that's what they're in the car. Right here in the car. And then that sets off the whole, you know, but he tells him it's a party and he's like, okay, all right. It's a party. It's a party. And then you try to book a case now. Yeah. Chris Tucker's Michael Jackson out in the scene. Boy, like he is like full, old and hot pitch. Dancing. Also, now I now that I know this movie has so much money, they could freaking use Michael Jackson's music. Like, you know how much money that would cost? It's not like my, yeah, they were in Hong Kong. The amount of shots in the beginning of this movie of Hong Kong.
I was like, okay, they were like, hey, we are literate. We are here here. They play a snippet of another part of me in the first one, though. He's just singing the lyrics. He's not doing the actual lyrics. The lyrics are in this one, but I felt like they could have, like, I know the B-roll was Hong Kong and he was walking around it. But like, I don't know. I fight the city could be like more incorporated. But we did get that really cool fight scene that Shang-Chi actually, what do you call it? Not remade it, but they were inspired by. For, remember, the scaffolding, the bamboo scaffolding, like, Jackie Chan, or the day they do something like that in Shang-Chi? Yeah, that's the big fight. Like, one of the biggest. I don't remember. I just don't remember it's been so long. Sorry, yeah. Would you put that inspired, like, what is that? Like, not remade, but like, it's my own. Oh my gosh, maybe. Oh my gosh. And oh my gosh. That was good. That fight was good. I don't really watch that. I mean, the fun-chee fights. That was a great fight. Also, there's a black dude stunt coordinator who did Shang-Chi Spider-Man. That's a black guy.
Just fun fact. There's a people who do stunts. But yeah. Yeah, I mean, so yeah, he's, they're in this, I don't know, what do you call it, bar or not even a bar. Bob. Yeah. He's doing that karaoke. His Michael Jackson moves are great. He's, he's hit it. And then Jackie's, Jackie's like, no, this is a gangster club. I'm looking for Rick Tand. And he's like, you blind to me. All right. Fine. Don't worry. I'll just, I'll go get him. I'll get him right now. I think this is the kind of stuff that you feel like is dumb, right, drop? Like him just being so... So I didn't mind his focus being like... I'm like, I want to get some mishoot. I guess like... Yeah, no, that's fine. But I mean, like, you just being like... Him yelling out over the whole club. Yes. Like, I'm trying to add to that new women on this side. I'm the five women on this side. Cause he wouldn't have done like, this is my thing about it. It's like as funny as he was in the first one, he was a good cop and he wouldn't have done that in the first move.
Like, my thing is... It's so funny because I have to rewatch the first movie. Dude, because it's probably the second movie that's making me think this. But I'm like, yep, he was totally... Oh, no. It's definitely... I don't think so. I even think if you go back to when he talks, when he's like... When he's trying to get a Charlie shooting in the club and it does as if a pass where he's like, what are you shooting? Shot him in ass. He's like, what do you mean? He's like, shot him in ass and macapapult. Like, I feel like there's always... Yeah, where are you shot him in? And macapapult is fine. I don't know. Yeah, it's just... They just made him dumb. Yeah, no, he does that a lot in the... You are right. Like, he almost is never scared of anyone. Like, he's like... He's like, re-contains a very dangerous man. He runs the triads. The most dangerous gang in Hong Kong. He's like, okay, great. I'm going to destroy his computer. Like, what do you mean? Like, just because you're taller than him, you think you can go to the gang leader? That's not how this works. Good as funny.
I will say the shot of him stopping on the laptop as everyone stands up. And then Ricky makes them sit back down. So when he looks up, everyone is like just still scared of him. I'm like, that stuff was funny. I just personally struggle with like... Even when it comes to like improv. If you're going to be a mechanic in the scene, you don't... Like, be the smartest mechanic. That doesn't mean you need to know how to do everything right. But don't be a mechanic who doesn't know how to fix a car. Then I'm like, with the fuck as a point of you being a mechanic. Like, you know what I mean? Like, that stuff I started. The closest thing he does to something like this in the first movie that I can think of is he knows he has a piece of a bomb. And he's fucking with the guy that he's interrogating. Like, he's going to do something. But it's like, you don't know what that is. If that's going to blow up, if it's going to not... You know, and he's like... And the guy is clearly scared of it. But he's still behaving as if like...
You know, he's still being brazen with the... Like he could have... Right, right. With the thing. I think that's probably the closest to it. And I don't know. Is that the same thing that you did like... That's different to me. But I think the reason that it's this way is because in the first movie, because Jackie is in America, Jackie is kind of like not scared and like asking people questions and like not following protocol. And you know, Chris Tucker's like, you got it. Like, you don't know what to do. Like, stop doing it. And so I think it's like trying to give him that. They're trying to give him that. But the problem is they had to do it in the Chris Tucker way. So the Chris Tucker way is like, he has to talk and like be bolder and bigger or whatever. And so like, he was being so reckless. And then they're... And then like, we constantly have this joke in the movie of... He messes up and then realizes the danger that they're in. And it goes, why didn't you tell me? And he's like, Jackie's like, I did tell you.
And he's like, no, you did it. Yes, true. I remember. Yeah. Like, they did that joke at least three different times. He's like, why did you tell me? Why did you tell me? Why did you tell me? You were going to take him out there. The bomb thing. Why do you want to tell me you had a bomb? I did. What'd you say? I said, boom, boom, boom. He's like, I don't know what move is. Also, they did the, I don't understand what you're saying. So many times. So, Jesus, Louise. They... Jackie has said that one boy. That's right. The first callback joke they do is right at the beginning of the movie, where they're listening to music. And then he like, takes the CD out and throws it out. And Jackie's like, don't ever throw out a Chinese man's CD. The first callback was even... That they were listening to Beach Boys. They were listening to Beach Boys and he goes, I love to Beach Boys. Instantly referencing the first movie. I forgot that part. Wow. All right. Yeah. God. I did not know. Don't... You know what? I'm a pause. I think the movie told why this movie, the more I'm thinking, I don't like this movie.
And I... My soul... My soul... It's... Can't take that. My soul cannot take not liking a rush hour. So I'm going to just... But you liked it then. I don't think that... No. I think recognizing like cracks in it now are fine. You know? Because it's still... It's a different time. It's hilarious back there. It's not only a different time, but you also like... On. You've grown and you work in the industry and you like know what goes into these things. And you can see the like the errors in this are now glaring to you. That's true. It's true. It's true. I'm okay, which is probably the worst part. It's like I think because Jackie gets enough jokes and Chris took a guess enough jokes. I'm like this movie is very offensive, but I feel like everyone's getting it. So I'm even okay with that. I'm just... Yeah, sure. Not okay with... Yes. Because Jackie's like small... Like I'm not okay with these two dudes who's like at their peaks being like not being not being seen as like a sex symbol. Where I got to watch like some of these small white dudes.
I'm like some of these little dudes right now. I'm like, are you kidding me, bro? Are you kidding me? Like, was it rat chic? What do they call them? Like the dudes who like look like they call them like this is thing. It's like rat something like y'all telling me these dudes get to be sexy. But this... That... Come on, man. Rat chic? Yes, it's like that. I'm so glad they're certain that they're in the middle of it. Scallid, you know what I'm talking about? Yeah, I'm not gonna say the names to actors. Cause I don't know each other. I can pick names. I can pick names. I'm not saying names. We didn't invent this. This is all the internet. People know the names. They know it's Joshua Coddard. Wait, wait, what are you doing? Just saying names. Hodor, hodor, hodor. We know the names. I'm not saying names. Okay. Was it rat handsome? Rat handsome. Rat handsome. I think Adam Driver's is... I'm not innocent. It's not about the... Listen, Brad. No, I'm not driving. I'm over. He got a little more hamster to him though. He got a little bit of hamster. The driver's a big dude.
He was in the... Wasn't he in the army? Or... Yes, he was. He was in the service before. He was, yeah. Before it's you, the art. Before it's you, the art. Before it's you, the art. Yes, before it's you. Before it's you, the art. And then he got out of your art and instantly got a job. Cause that's how that works. Wow. Big guy. I just appreciate how quickly this movie jumps into it. And like we're off to the races immediately. Off to the races immediately. They run out of that club quick. I don't believe that all those people would run out the club from from at one from one agent. Like I'm not running out the club. It's our place. Right. But yeah. I... Cause I think for me it was like this was just like all right, fun scene to fun scene. Like let's throw these guys together. The first movie had a little more heart because they're looking for a missing girl. It's like a much stronger drive than like, Hey, let's figure out like who killed people that we've never seen and don't know, you know.
Yeah. Both the audience and and our main characters. And then also like it's a scheme for laundering counterfeit money, which is like, okay. You know, yeah. Like I mean, yeah, that's bad. And like you need to catch them. But like does that hit at my emotional heartstrings? Oh. You know, Ricky Tann should have been a big bad to me. Make it personal to Jackie. Like it was. They he was a big bad. They flipped him back. Like it was like right. He tricked he tricked them. He faked his death. Right. And then and and then it was like actually it's Rick it was been Ricky Tann. It was it was Ricky Tann. Right. I forgot forgot forgot forgot forgot. Rosalyn Sanchez plays Isabella Molina who is an undercover secret agent. Yes. For the secret search. Of course we're listen. I'm gonna tell you something about her right now. After this movie, I remember falling in love with her so much. I watched a movie called. It was with Cuba good in junior.
And he was on like a gay cruise because he fell in love with her. Who was it called? Boat Trip. Yes. Boat Trip. I remember watching Boat Trip just because I thought this one was like. Gorgeous. She is gorgeous. Yeah. I only remember one single part of Boat Trip. It's I don't remember how the setup actually happens but it's like we either think someone is getting jerked off or jerking off and then they cut to someone's back getting splattered in a in a suntan lotion. Wait, what? That's the only part of Boat Trip that I remember. So it's like the scene is shot like someone is getting is getting like a hand job or a blowjob or something. And then the cut is to just someone getting their back. suntan lotion. Do not. It's the only thing I remember from Boat Trip. I remember a Cuba good in like.
I think he was like in a room or something that she was changing and he tried to do like what he thought was a gay voice. And I remember at the time being like what man? What is this? Gratio Sands also. Gratio Sands. Gratio Sands. Yeah, Gratio Sands. Wow. Wow indeed. What a time. What a time. When comedies were just like yeah let's have a lot of gay jokes and women make it. Or women scantily clad. Like honestly sometimes I watch so these movies I'm just like god. What? How horrible was it to be an actress? Why did she change in this movie? With the windows wide open? Bro. With the windows wide. Now now I know that people do that. Right? Like people get it. Yeah, she's in a sky. She's in like a sky rise building. Yeah. Yeah. But also like but also why did she do it? You know what I mean?
Also with the badge, the badge on like the taint. That was really funny. I remember that was the trailer. I didn't see that. That part. I can see that badge. That little badge. Oh my goodness. Damn. What are you doing? Why you ain't saying it was a bomb? I said she was the bomb. I said she was the bomb. She was the bomb. Oh man. Oh my goodness. Oh, Lordy Lord. Oh the okay. The other thing I want to talk about and I mean like not we don't have to go through this plot by point by plot point but the part in this movie where we're supposed to believe we're supposed to like like Lee is supposed to think that Carter is dead. Yes. And like and then he like is in the car sad and then it starts doing Yes. And I was just like what is that?
You mean you mean an incredible moment in cinema? You mean we got the exact perfect way to do a call back to the end of the movie. I have all of the callbacks that went silly and fun. Just Chris just Jackie Chan by himself doing that. At that point. I will say I did like the chicken bit. I did like him being like oh yeah the chicken. I talked about with it and then he's like no. I'll arrest you. It's like you're gonna be a wrestler for killing a chicken. And also the dude just drove off with the chicken. Yeah. I know. I love that he carried this chicken with him like what? I was saved this chicken. I'm not gonna lie. I just don't know. I feel it. I uh yeah. I don't know. Guys I got a soft rock movie. I got a pause. Yeah go ahead. Yeah go ahead. Yeah go ahead.
You have to remember so you have to put yourself back in like you know 1998 happened. You know you were however old you were in 1998. And then that movie was hilarious. And then the sequel comes out and they're like uh what do we you know what do we do? Well then what if he's a what if he's sitting in his car driving by himself and he thinks he's dead and he's to I'll be missing you. He's just doing the move. You know what I'm saying? You know it is you're right you're right you know what you're right you're right. You're right. Look man I got look I didn't expect the head to feel it but I felt it instant and it wrote me throughout the whole movie like it just it just Oh you immediately were like I'm over this. It was like it hit go okay and I was like oh my I remember being shocked by it. I was like oh my gosh what the hell. Was it the the thing he yells out the window to the it was to the Ford him man it was like it was like um it was like uh when they went you know what it was first started it started when they were in the club when they were in the club okay that's later that's after that's after okay
yeah they're in the club okay oh yeah it started when they were in the club and I was like you're not this I don't know I don't know I get when he's yet when after the karaoke when he's yelling at every when he's telling yeah like that whole like wasn't started ugly women on this side I was like you wouldn't do this I love it was like this character wouldn't do this Chris like he's on the cake he's on vacation he's trying to he's trying to get things done man yeah he's like let me wrap this up real quick he never takes any of this seriously yeah the entire almost this entire movie he's like not taking things seriously until they get into trouble and then he's like oh no we're gonna die he goes from like being like like like let me just wrap this up real quick to be like oh no I'm gonna die like how many different times has did he say I don't want to die or we're gonna die in the movie like so many times they're hanging from the bamboo you know what I mean like yeah like why'd you tell why'd you tell me she was there he's like I did tell you
they they do that bit at maybe four times in this film they do that bit but anyway the Vegas the I thought the Vegas stuff was was fun like actually that was a you know that was an example of him doing the thing and doing it successfully right like I'm gonna cause a distraction yes yes this whole bit about why are you giving me $500 chips that actor is great who's just like no sir I don't know sir I'm sorry sir you're yes also I love I know I know you can't do it nowadays it's not the business of the movie but it's just so dumb but a cream better can you better can you better can you well like that stuff it's like that is so you could never do that joke at all nowadays but something about that how they all committed to it and Chris Tucker's face the entire time and I think Jackie just being so pleasant and like happy about the I don't know that whole sequence and I know Jamie Piffin also got all these white men it's right me Piffin also I understand it's a problem I know but he crushed this part he did yeah he did it's problematic on a myriad of ways and yet it was I was like perfect yeah
and so I remember seeing the interview he had about it and he was like they kind of didn't know what I've seen what goes they just started like improvise and whatever and I was like honestly that's a good improv scene you know I mean that's a yeah yeah who's face okay a little face to you okay like why would he talk like that he didn't mean like why are you talking like that sorry I said that completely off Mike I said he decided this is the character yeah truly truly yeah that's it are there any other bits to say Zangzen years also like you know she she she plays her role very convincingly yes yeah Ernie Ernie Ray as Jinger is in this yes for a quick second for a quick second every time he pops up and stuff for a quick second I'm just like damn this was the guy this was the guy well he was a name is stunt coordinator though so you know yeah
and also for those who don't know that is keynote from yeah from teams from teams to to secret of the ooze yeah yeah be up and he was a purple turtle he was a purple turtle in the first one right oh I don't know which one but I know that they they they gave him a speaking role then the scattered yeah I knew he was a turtle first let's see which one he was yes and he also was in surf ninjas which is fantastic surf ninja turtle was he we had to tell him this movie he was out of tell he was like what like they chase him at one point when after the Isabella in the hotel scene he's like the page who runs out like when they get in the traffic a captured yeah got it yeah and then the don cheeto makes it a there's a kid yeah yeah and thanks to Don cheeto we officially have kung fu Kenny that's what Kendrick got it kung fu Kenny
because he was like a black kung fu dude like what do you say it was like it was like incompetent or was it like off-cringe all boulevard or something like that yeah and cringe all love Freddie Freddie Freddie Chang Freddie wait rush R2 what was his name isn't was Kenny right much that might have been his name yeah but I'm talking about the name of the his the person who taught him but it was but it was like the cousins it was like the black cousin yeah they were right yeah their brothers their cousins are they get out of here get out of here Don cheeto you know don't been around for a minute bro what's that man heart yeah this was the I was obsessed with Don cheeto at this period in time is this before after this is this is before hotel Rwanda right gotta be but what was ocean's eleven three two thousand four oceans eleven was I think around this year too oh what ocean's eleven two thousand four yeah Rwanda was two was two thousand four yeah Rwanda was two thousand four oceans elevens I think was the same year as
rush hour two no that was two thousand four as well ocean no oceans eleven no oh sorry sorry right oceans eleven one month alone wow man what a cool movie ocean's like oceans such a cool 12 was two thousand four got it now they're remaking oceans what do you mean they'd already did they made oceans eight John they're making another oceans eleven directed and starring Bradley Cooper and it's filming right now as a matter of fact yeah Bradley Cooper Bradley Cooper's right in it and I think it's Margot Robbie let's go let's do it this is all this sounds awful do it it's a pretty good yep it's it's he's playing a free cool so he is playing hey Bradley Cooper's 50 he is playing Danny oceans father and Margot Robbie is playing Danny oceans mother okay so wait so it's not even a it's not even a remake it's just in the same universe as that's these other one it's a prequel
they refuse they're refusing to make a to do a remake I think at one point they they said they were going to I think the reason they haven't this remake because I think at one point they were discussing coming back to do another one because they could be older and just keep making these movies why wouldn't they just make another oceans eight break break well you oh man you saw you saw oceans eight I did see oceans eight it was fine oh yeah I saw oceans eight had no style it was fine but you don't make you can't do a sequel or for fine yeah you can they do that all the time I would say it happens all the time but I guess it doesn't but it made money oh did it I thought it didn't make money I thought that was a big thing about it let's see it made two hundred ninety seven million who was the boy off a off a 70 million that's pretty good yeah that's pretty good but did it what was what was public opinion like what did like what was the internet because the internet be
tanked somebody's movies now so I think the internet did hit on it I think it also did the thing that you don't need to do I think they like so I feel like if someone let me remake a movie that had like that was famous for white people I'm probably gonna just make the movie but I'm probably either gonna not address the person or I'm gonna like say they're off somewhere I think this movie killed off Danny immediately and it's like why did you just kill off the person like the reason it's called the ocean's movie is blah blah blah also I think unfortunately I think probably the part that people liked the most was and had the way who was not part of the team at first so I think people are like oh this is just a ratio but did you really think that Danny ocean was dead you know what I mean like they were talking like he was dead but that don't mean he's up I don't know I mean in the movie I don't right but that was my all I think it is a hard part when it comes to stuff like this where it's like a man white man in particular get really like anxious about this stuff so like the ghost busters the oceans the ballerina movies like they're like this is our toxic dude they're like
this is I was don't I can't you can't take hours but it's so interesting because if you do a movie kind of like atomic bomb which is in the same kind of world those movies do well so it's like you can almost just replicate the thing you just can't like say I know but but but Hollywood loves IP they love sequels and remakes and prequels and all that stuff so it sucks that they're like oh but you can't you can do it again but don't do it with a bunch of women dude there's a lot there's a lot of instances and I wonder how I wonder if someone could look up how often this happens anymore like where like biodeon was an unreleased like was like a they didn't do a bill and 10 three biodeon was it was a bill and 10 three but they made biodeon and then there's other movies like that where it was like oh they were gonna do a sequel to this but instead they made such a clever view overfield paradox that we watch oh yes right that was what was that originally gonna label it
it was just something else made it clear yeah cloverfield same with I think it's I think 10 cloverfield dayna's was similar yeah yeah that's like the reverse that's like shoe horning a script to make it to make it a part of a universe instead of being like this script that was originally written or like find a station like was like a was a it's not the exact same thing but it was like a a spec for for X files and then someone was like well what if it's a whole movie really yeah someone wrote like an X file spec and then it became one of the best horror franchises ever yeah and so like just like if only we did that more like if only oceans eight was something else if only you know whatever this new movie is that's coming out was not was not oceans but it's hard because like would people see it you know I know I know but we used to I think people used to see original movies man I really do I think like even now maybe we would still if they just marketed it up sessions was was original I know now is doing better to box office but like I
know the first few wasn't great but like Oak Street wasn't doing well it's starting to do better now sinners was a blade script and then and then they made and then now it's that's true it was a blade script no time no I'm completely I was like what was a blade script but if all of those but if all of those costumes were blade costumes you can't tell me otherwise you cannot tell me that that they weren't that wasn't we get on this script rabbit hole it's probably my fault but I'm not in this oh yeah oh yeah but why are we talking about oceans uh the movie never talking about it was down Cheeto oh down Cheeto that's right down Cheeto who's in it who's the notions 11 that's right dod Cheeto was really funny in this uh his outtakes were funny as well uh his name is Lee Hey Jackie Jackie you see Jackie Chris Tucker it's so funny it's so funny just also knowing that down Cheeto is a freaking
serious man-to-cated actor and he's just like this this nigga no so good cheese Louise bro like you the man like uh it was like chill it's all right Don you're gonna get your chance uh very soon Don is so fun yeah is there anything else that I don't you know they they win they win in the end they win in the end yeah everybody dies the way that the way that uh what's her name dies is so anti-clobatic and very funny I did you were you upset about that wait how does she like he didn't really get to because he like he's basically getting his butt whoop the entire time Chris Tucker and then he like she like knocks him over but it like knocks something else and it like falls back at like falls on her he kills her like well I'm okay with that because I'm like the fact that like his antagonist I'm all about that like equality but I'm like I can't just watch this big ass black dude beat up this loisian woman like
I can't he can't go bro he just like he just can't do it like I Fair enough he got you got to pull a Jackie Chan well like Jackie Chan and Jet Li do it actually when they take women and fight women because they can't do it and it's just like now at him just like yeah like throwing up but it's like it's something at every time it's funny every time it's fun picking him in the face was funny every time yes yeah yeah watching his ass roll man okay I'm kicked to the face see the movie was good you guys see it's a fun movie see yeah absolutely absolutely it's definitely I got I mean I There are many times where we're watching movies that I'm like oh god how much longer is this I didn't quite feel that way No this is I was fast it move fast yeah move fast and the in the and the fight scenes are really fun like It's so fun like it was so fun watching them beat up all those people in the freaking
mum massage parlor with like Brobes on you know and like And like him hitting Jackie and being like oh y'all look at life And then all of a sudden being like dynamic a dynamic duo that's like using each other to like like what like I love it over it's my favorite kind of sequel like the mummy returns when suddenly everyone is Yeah, everyone's amazing We've taken down yeah We've taken down one big bad and now all of a sudden I mean that's what basically that's what the fast and furious became the fast and the furious was like it it went from something that had it was just like some drag or some car racing Street racing and then all of a sudden they're all like The best shooters the best fighters can do anything with the car like it's like all right, you know Yeah, sign me up y'all were just street racing in in LA like you weren't doing any of this you weren't that smart
You weren't that good you couldn't fight that well And I hope they go back I hope they go back to I heard they were going back. That's I heard the But how do you do that after you like theoretically? How do you do it after you've been in the space like what street race? I mean Brand new day is street level after being hella cosmic for set like This each movie got more and more cosmic I mean granted there's still a lot going on in brand new day, but I I bet they can do it. I bet they can do it Brand new day you can't compare you're this is the whole problem is that they're super hero They're super heroes and fast and the furious series But I mean I just mean like the way the way of like I just mean the way that's like you can you can reset and you can and you can do Smaller stakes and it can still be engaging. I just think that's possible. I think I think it's possible for them If they if they figure it away, but they they ended their last movie on a freaking cliffhanger where he's like trying to out race
That's unfortunate because they out of the time. I'm also being excluded at the time. It was also supposed to be like They were going to do three two more movies and now they're only doing one more. So We'll see they got to figure out how to how to rain it in with this last one How can they they it's literally Jason Moe is still out there in the big bad and And he's like potentially killed his family whatever anyway What a crazy cliffhanger it's gonna come down to a street. It's gonna be like all right Yeah, it's just one race. Yeah, let's just a race. It's a common international criminal. Why do why would I just agree to it? Some sort of 25 second street race That's the other thing is the races were so sure I watched for as a curious again. It was like yeah, the the street races just a drag race like five five seconds Yeah, that is it Anyway It's time for the cause we rate and review films not based on how much we liked it
But whether or not helps the cause of leading black actors in Hollywood if it fully helps the cause We give it a black fist someone helps the cause we give it a white palm if it doesn't help the cause at all We don't give it anything It's tough one How three will raise our ratings for rush hour two one two three I guess it wasn't that what you got James it's in the chat Black fist yeah, he's a first black man to get 20 million dollars Wild yeah, wild that he got there before I will Smith. Yeah, that was a big conversation Because like then he stopped doing movies. Yeah, man. He said Hollywood was toxic. He went on religion and he left that and came back He even doing a Friday. He's good for him. He's doing the Friday now. What she said he never would do He is doing that last one. Yep. The next one I mean. Mm-hmm. It's like also the last one. Yeah last Friday Maybe the title writes itself Yeah, also Chris Tucker. I think like I don't know I think he became such a staple like the stuff he did with Michael Jackson after that
I think like Chris Tucker became like the guy. Yeah, which is so cool to see. I think with Emma Gruder on board I think it's gonna be pretty solid but that last Friday movie Yeah You know, and he's you know, he was an heir recently. That's right They had he did some of the punch up too. I don't think he's credited, but he did some of the rewrites randomly in silver linings playbook All right, uh You could uh, is we're just going on right? We're good Yeah, we good. That's it. It is okay You're our plugs. This is the move. We almost We have a patreon. It's $5 a month.
