About this episode
The Sackhoff Show is made possible by:
We go from last week's episode where Starbuck is suspiciously non-existent, to this week....where it's all Kara Thrace all the time! And she is a hot frakkin' mess y'all. Katee talks about how frustrating it was to play Starbuck in this storyline, where she is constantly failing and being torn to pieces by Kat of all people...
I have never watched my performance in Battlestar Galactica.. until now. Listen along for my real, unfiltered first reactions. It's like a DVD commentary, remember those? There will definitely be some behind the scenes stories ;) and if you're a visual person, check out the reaction videos over on YouTube.

Fine you're fine with it that guys it's the living ones you can't deal with oh What I'm so confused She's a fucking mess man Hi you guys let's like 10 30 at night and we got a hurry up and watch Three episodes as fast as possible because apparently we're doing it on a pretty good episode here We are from our Russian through scar. We are rushing rushing through it as fast as we can because we have to three more episodes Dumb before grace comes in like it does grace is really putting pressure on she has put the pressure and the reason we want is because We want to have grace for Some good grace episodes. Yeah. Yeah, somebody today was like I read in the comments. Hey great idea here Maybe you should have people come for the episodes there actually and I was like, yeah, no shit
We've had to cross this well. We've also done that just we can there's never almost never at least most Actors don't have two good episodes back to back with the exception of like the part ones and part two's of the series Right and Trisha who's like here all but well even for Trisha even in Pegasus like Pegasus is like a good reveal of Trisha's character But she doesn't you know do this is not a ton for her to do no I mean it's a phenomenal work. Yeah, there's phenomenal work. Yeah, but yeah, there's you can't get a full character In every episode no, so we're doing our best. We're doing our best. All right, we're also dealing with a child who's like now scared at the dark So she could call us at any minute any let's get through the business Let's do it like subscribe follow us wherever we need to be followed during the hatred Nature and dot com slash the stock out show where do you get merch? There's a crop show dot com slash merch There you go other than that we are getting ready to host a really cool event on September 11th, so Check it out check it out and be there. It's for a very important cause called the Sam Day Foundation and let's just get into this Cuz we do not have time. Do you know who directed this episode? Do you know?
Michael Lincoln could you get a guess on it? No, you got it right I literally just guessed I literally just got right and David Wettel and Bradley Thompson see you know we the Nanton and in David and Bradley and I quite often joked that they were my trio that gave me some of Some of Starbucks best episodes here we go. Okay is Scar episode 15 all right three two one Who a fancy lady do they have an affair or something? Today Tonight When we went to take the cans back our daughter and I take the cans back Because in Oregon you get 10 cents per can and she said what do you guys drink so much of this? And I made sure to say very lovely hours is non-alcoholic No, that's my voice. That's Starbucks flash on right back to your style on radar day
I When you were so sick and you had to get into this goo there's a lot of good talk going on We should ask you what's interesting is him having done the similar thing with the ship and that one scene You Get the hell out of your mouth. Oh So Kat's gonna be The trap a hundred times seem like she'd gotten through it Ah, I look so young I say I'm gonna do something I do it and yet he still looks really The resistance base camp is here so we're gonna go back are we going back in this episode? We have to find a way to jump back to Capricot and go get the carer. I don't remember that scene I don't remember that scene either. I did me is that a cutscene? Oh, you know people done So this is so strange people did say there was you know cut scenes from some of the episodes we watch recently And then sector two five now I think your eyes open cat. This is where the danger about it
Yeah, so they're showing the recap of things that they didn't show because they're not showing the full episodes It's so weird. Yeah Paramount. What are you doing? Cassie what's not on me? Her name? She's not my dad. One of these girlfriend? You know what cat? I told you I had enough fracked an idea. It took a bit of rest, right? Oh right, she's having flashbacks. Some more flashbacks. Riley's dead for one very simple reason. He couldn't control his fear. Yeah, where he had cut and ran, gave the toaster a free shot up his ass. Oh, they lost somebody. Riley's a good stick. So Kelly and Howard at Clean O's Cockpit. Oh Jesus. Hey, does anybody remember the name of Riley's girlfriend? Karen I think. Was it Kath? Kathie. Interesting look for hot dog with his hair slicked back. Hey, this is Ensign Baxter. Welcome. We just finished a vipret training on Pegasus. I think I picked some Silan Baxter. What is that guy? Hmm. So it was Bino. Who's uh, Bino? Howard's gonna smoke you like a fine cigar, my man. Is this a scar a sylon? Raider? A scar is a raider. Yeah.
Scar's the best thing. A lot of pilots die going after that bastard. It's kind of one more thing that's humanizing them, hey? Yeah. You'll find out soon enough. It's got a taste for nuggets. Whoa, hold up. Can you see that? It's interesting that they've gone into fights with Silan's that haven't turned into like, oh shit, we got to get the fleet out of here again. Moments. Have a scar and take out an experience pilot like Bino. He hides behind an asteroid. You and Kath. Easy scar. Doesn't like to fight. He pops out. Blows you to pieces. Yes, man. I think Scar is a coward. This isn't dueling pistols at dawn. This is war. You never want to fight here. She's so angry. Yeah, she's just got a lot of attitude. And club him over the head. You see score understands that. I feel like hot dog is like trying out a new thing. This is something he's like, the high kid high school is like, I'm going to reinvent myself today. Slick back the hair. New hot dog.
Chris talking, Stim Junky. Oh. Well, that's not necessary. I wouldn't be calling anybody a junkie for every star look. Not the way you've been pounding back that booze lately. One tie on the ships enough. He's true. Someone else is going to get their head smashed into a table. You hand that top gun over to me and pull me my first drink. We lips and never touch the room and that'll go. Maybe you should slow down. Oh, oh, you should. Maybe. Maybe not. After blackmarked you son of a bitch. Exactly. You need to have a thought for starbuck. Cheers. Cheers. Oh, God, I remember doing this. Why are you coming in? How is that coming in hot? It's like stepbrother shit. I was a weird transition.
Yeah, it felt weird to me. Like, I remember shooting this and being like, why am I leaning on the ground? Hmm. Hmm. Hmm. She clearly had some good songs. She's in love with them all. I think it's time to be in love with someone. I do. I do too. I mean, she's got guilt of leaving people behind. I think that's probably part of it. Like, as I've seen where it feels a little too. They did have more than just a sexy moment. Like, they did have that sort of the after scenes and well well. Oh, wow. He's a scary looking fella. Right. Shit. That was cheap, but she knew that was his move. So she's got to be ready for it. Yeah. Um, it's, there's a little bit of whiplash. You go from black market where it's like, okay, we've got sort of sidetrack, Apollo storyline, that kind of cut us off guard. And then we're back to like starbuck fully on the Anders training. You're kind of like, you guys are just missing
each other completely now. And they've really moved away from trying to build you too as a, as a, as a, as a couple for a little while. Yeah. It's like to give that a break or something. It was funny because like, while we were filming it, I felt like, since you know, now, when we were filming it, I felt like I was having a little makeup scene with Apollo. I don't know. When we were filming it, I thought to myself that the relationship between Lee and Kara was longer. Right. Because it had been like a year and a half, two years. Something definitely wrong. But in watching it, it feels like it was very quick and that they didn't put it back. He should be jumping in or really done it us. You know, can't do it at all a little bit further. Yeah. Yeah. There you go. Check those tails. That's a cool move when you do that. Where that shit moves is super fun. He's trying to trigger the light. There you go. Oh, shit. Kara. Yeah. You. Shit.
Gotta fill the windscreen with the sucker. You're not gonna hit him. See, look, he's still not close enough. He knows already, Daddy just doesn't know it yet. Do you any guys see where it went wrong? They really made, they really cleaned Kat off the wet. Yeah, they did fast. We know how to fixate it on his target. He to see that. Was it scar? It's just a boogie man now. I'm scared of that. There's the mother fracker. I'm gonna kill. Talk about, she's fixating. The minding chip's broken another drill bit. We need to extend again. Another eight days. Are we armageddon in this shit? They've just discovered an incredibly rich brainable enough to build two entire squadrons of viper. They can't walk away from that. No, they just blocked the drill. Biggest is production team has just turned out it's first combat ready viper. We are beginning to replace our losses. There you go. Well, that's good. Are they gonna be able to replace pilots as well? Oh, come on. Four weeks ago, our minding chips are a pager on this asteroid. Yeah, I think a person will listen there. This star system is full of rocks and dust. So our only reliable system of detection is.
Grubles. They're really putting you two against each other this episode. We'll be patrolling the area in divisions of four. Two, so we're going in sections of two. Are you planning the ops for me now, too? Jesus. Okay, I want us to spread out to control a larger area. It's right here in the briefings. Oh, starbuck. Are you losing it? Oh, no. I don't want her to be right, but I think she's right. Scar and his buddies are out there looking for easy kills. Let's not give them any. It's going on with you. You don't know. I don't like it. You may have faced him before. So you're not. Riders are incarnate just like you. Yeah, just like me. Oh, interesting. A raider is much like a trained animal. Basic consciousness and survival instinct. I know, but with the destruction of the resurrection ship, when they die, they're really dead. So they're like army dogs. But it seems like they're smarter than that. It's a very smart, trained animal.
Makes sense, doesn't it? It takes months for you to try and nugget into an effective viper pilot. So if you could bring them back and put them in a brand new body, and when you do it, death then becomes a learning experience. Just like you're trying to teach them on screen. How many pilots have we lost? I mean, I have you lost. You. I love your facial expression. Times when I look at you, and I forget where you are. That's sad. Yeah. It's her friend. All I see is the kid that was fracking the chief and thinking she was getting away with it. Yeah, I remember. I'm off on her too. You like a paxist? I want them to give you some really good writing. Be careful of Scar. Okay. He's filled with rage. About what? Dying is a painful and traumatic experience. Every time he's reborn, he's filled with more bitter memories. Okay.
Scar hates you every bit as much as you hate him. Maybe there is a downside to reincarnating old readers to get really angry at their own. Really, exactly. You're like, um, we don't really want this guy around anymore. He's something really funny. I think light years are bigger now. Do you like being able to see the light from more than the tears? I think you're the one who's the most beautiful. Yeah, but the world. It's not growing. You don't. Well, my ears are for sure that I'm not. Yeah, but like I can see it. A little tiny 80-bitty-bitty-s. And that is what this tear simulates. All right, go, go! Hang in there. Come on. Just so-so. Jesus yeah. Oh, oh, oh, oh. Hey, hey, hey. It's gotta be a better way. Time. To get people under cover. Not bad. At least to hit the target. So what's the old time record? Four hits on the X-ring. Are you kidding? Who did that? Who do you think? I did. I'm gonna give it a shot for a little time soon. Uh, Jesus. Come on, okay. Okay. Get him. Time!
Five. Yes! She's coming for your spot. She is and it's super annoying. This story, like, yeah. Why did you hate it? Because they were trying to take away some of the starbuck thunder? Or was, yeah. I felt like- You were- And you were a 28-year-old. Like they spend all this time building starbuck up and then they bring in a character who, you know, was three episodes ago, like- On stims and- On stims and then comes back and she's better than starbuck. Like I was always like- Yeah, I feel that too. You know, and it was nothing against Luciana. Luciana did- Right. I think it was doing great in the role. Sticks great. I just didn't like the character and- Her back together. Like I didn't like what it's- You know, like- It's easy to just do this light cat here. Right. For sure. Because your chair- I'll be your- It's not fair. And- No, it- You're rooting for starbuck, of course. And I feel like- And Luciana was, you know, every time I talked- I have talked about this, she was always like, you know, cat came in to facilitate your character. And I was like, well, yeah, of course though.
But that doesn't- That's a good song. Maybe I'd like it. He's got a lollipop. Why are you pushing so hard? That's just another hot shot kid out to make her bones. Like you were before you met Anders. See? Again. You were before you met Anders. If you think about him- That's fine. That's fine. He's just- Building in a story to go back. Yeah, but why did he say that? Hot shot kid- Care. Before you met Anders. Like, is he- You didn't think he had a chance to survive. Cause he knows that's what's rattling her. Yeah, maybe. I thought it was dead. I don't know what I thought. Cause that line itself of his didn't feel- Right. To connect it to something. Cause if that's what we're missing with, we're missing that she's r- Like, we're missing that she's raddled by Sam and we- She had the- She has the flashback, but- Yeah. Come on. They drilled this into you over and over and over again. At basic air combat. Don't run. Where you'll die.
That's comforting. Alright, that's right. Yep. What do you mean, inform? Nothing. Sorry. Come here. Oh, she's even gonna- Even gonna help him get his courage. Don't let the raiders get anywhere near the miners. Yeah. Thanks, sir. Go get him, Tiger. It's also a lot. It's like every single moment. Yeah. That kid needs more than a pat on the ass. His jacket says he's a qualified viper jock. So I either fly him, or I ground him and then we go up short. What's it gonna be? How tall is she? She's- Quite a bit shorter than looking than you. And you're not that tall. No, we're turned to base. Thanks. Yeah, I know. No. It could also be the angle too. Yeah, true. Because Luciana's not- She's not that short, but she's a short right. She looks short. She looks short there. Yeah. We bug out, baby. Let her release deal with them. We're going home. Negative. Starbucks said to turn it to any attack. Whoa. You're on your own, duck. Everybody's way out of range. Duck, do down six minutes. Yes. He knows. Anybody use somebody?
No, yeah. And that sounds like Starbucks fault. I don't know. Probably. Because everything's her fault in this episode. Yeah, I would have been real pived about this storyline too if I were you. I was. See? It's not just me. No, I was like- I would have been like- I was supposed to be good. I know. And I don't think they've shown us like, she didn't get blown out into space like a poll like she hasn't had enough reason to be rattled to this extent. Right. See? Thank you. Sorry, Luciana. I really don't like cat. I also feel like they're really hammered like back to back mistakes.
It feels like too much. I know. It's a lot in one episode. I know that in two weeks, I won't remember his face. Yeah. That's not. I can't remember any of their faces after they're killed. And that's how hard I try. They just fade. I don't even remember their names. Names. I don't even think you actually mean that. I think you're full of shit. Body on his thousandth landing. There was chuckles. Hahaha. It's not funny. It's not funny. It's not funny. It is funny. It was funny. Was that scripted? I don't think so. I don't know how to imagine it was. Oh, remember. It seems like too much of an accurate choice. I don't think so. We go out over and over again. Until someday, some metal mother fracker is going to catch us on a bad day and just blow us away. Mm. Yeah, it's scary. Brett shiny futures are overrated anyway. It's a lot of alcohol in the show. It's so much alcohol. And not just like clear, like moonshine,
but like aged alcohol. That's why we got to get what we can right now. Are they going to kiss? Hmm. I mean, if you're not feeling like you're going to live long and to right now. Yeah, but they got too much history to just like kiss each other and be done with it. So I don't mean. I don't think it's just going to be a kiss and be done. It seems like all starbucks. Starbucks. She's just making mistakes all over the fucking places. And she. Oh, shit. Yep. Oh, shit. You don't remember this. Remember your back. Oh, they had to cover my tattoo because it was a to cross Christian cross. Yeah. Oh, that's right. That's why I remember this. So now he's trying to slow it down too, but you're just trying to forget. Oh, no. Oh, man. So who do you? This is a race. Here. Oh, what's going on? What's going on? What's sad? What's wrong with you? I.
Oh, don't say that. Hey, what about us? There's no us. There is nothing here. You get that. My God. That's where you get that from. Well, that's just great. Brack or fight, huh? Oh, man. OK. I feel so bad for them right now. I'm just going to fight you. I am hung up on a dead guy. Oh, OK. I'll go. There you go. Well, there's the truth. And I don't know what I'm doing. See, even really knowing. He's like, I took her. Yeah. Who made me feel like. Yeah, and then there was this whole like child prostitution thing I had to break up. And then she laughed. And it's very complicated. We all have shit. You are fine. You're fine with the dead guys. It's the living ones you can't do with her. Oh. Oh, what? I'm so confused.
She's a fucking mess, man. A mess. You are a hot mess. So much a mess. Wow. Oh my God. She was never this big of a fucking mess. She clearly was. They made her a huge mess. I just like we said, I think we're missing a couple scenes that might have built to this a little more. Because it feels like not fully connected. Well, because I feel like the scene with Tomo and her talking about Zapp being dead. Exactly. And then Anders, they probably talk about Anders. And we messed out on the scene with her talking to Adama and Rosalind about wanting to get Sam back. So this feels oddly disconnected. Yeah. She drinks a lot. Yeah, it's good. It's a good drunk face. Thanks. Not easy to do. Yeah, it's really like, yeah, a subtle drunk is tough. Yeah, drunk is hard. And the subtler, it is, I think the harder it is in some ways. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
All right, what happens? Come on. What's happening? I wouldn't, I gotta say. I would not want to have Storma cut my six right now. That's something is like they're compromising her so much that I wouldn't want to be on her team. What about this? What about this? I'm going to have to break weight person. This isn't going to be me. Play chicken with the mother. Um, he doesn't want to have to resurrect again. It's painful. Wait, I'm shaking. I can't get a break. Yeah, he is. Yeah, he is. She knows something. You don't know. Go back in time again. Oh, right. Three hours ago. Oh, great. She's hungover. In two on two engagements, silent raiders like to isolate individual vikers and then gang up on one hoping to kill it before his wingman has a chance to protect him. That's a guy to be cat. Of course it is. I want to see Colonel Ty come in and be like, Hey, listen, I know. I know. Joe Phil. Yeah. Which is exactly what happened to JoJo 20 minutes ago.
That's true. Oh, man. What's the scar? Bastards smoke JoJo and jump to weigh in less than 15 seconds. And where were you? Oh my god. Cat. Flight schedule had you flying lead for JoJo on that patrol soul. Jesus Christ. It's two early in the morning for you, Starbucks. What exactly are you trying to say, Lieutenant? What I'm trying to say, Captain, maybe if you weren't up all night drinking, JoJo would have still been here. Really? Adding all these whispers in, make his annoying. Give us the room. Get her, Starback. Yeah, little ten-in. Well, take it or... If you like, I remember this speech coming up and I was like, Do I? Do I remember it? Starback have a redeeming moment right now. I know she does at the end, but right now. Of course she has to. Yeah. You know, coming in late for briefing because you're hung over, that's bad enough. You see, unlike you, I don't take a bunch of pills and then climb in my cockpit. True. Mm-hmm. Starback, you're an embarrassment.
Whoa, you don't fucking get to say that. You're just a reckless drunk. Since other people had to get killed. Oh my god. It wasn't that long ago that Starback was saving people's. Uh-huh. Look, let's save in the fleet and come out with plans that saved everybody and... What are you gonna do? You're gonna hit me, Starback? Yes. No. You're afraid that you're gonna end up like that picture of Riley's girlfriend. You see, that's why you're riding my ass so hard. So no one will notice that scar scares the living crap out of you. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Ugh! Ha-ha-ha-ha. Ha-ha-ha. Tanned hut. There you go. Get one freebie. And you won't even report her. Little tactical discussion, sir. Nice. Nice. It was the lively. It was. Ha-ha-ha-ha. Ryan, I'm pairing you two up. Cat. I want you to fly Starback's coming out by the big spot. Sir, I... This is his solution. Work together, kids. I got a hundred-couple of Raiders gonna try and sneak through that center.
So I want my heavy hitters up there to greet him. You do look scary. You look tough. Yeah. It's the highest he has putt. Mm-hmm. Starback. Mm-hmm. Whoa. Got puppy dog. You went full puppy dog there. Oh, it's a sad hallway. It's very heavy. Yeah. Yeah, this whole episode, it feels very like... I mean, I do know that there are episodes that exist to push a story forward. Yeah, of course. To get to where you need to go. Yeah. I a hundred percent know that. And we all know that Sam's coming back. So, because we know that Anders is coming back, you know that. So it's like... You know... That story, depending on when his contract was done, they had to like, maybe they had to move up. Get themselves there quicker. Yeah, it does feel like they're having it a little harder than necessary, but we don't really know. And again, I don't... I think it's just we're also missing some context. It's just...
It's such... It's such dangerous ground that when it comes to writing, that you really have to protect your hero characters. And if you don't, it can be really bad news for the audience. Yeah, and like, you know... Maybe that was a mean. I said... Like, can I tell you that? No frack and idea. So give it a rest, right? I literally said it. Wow, we were filming this. That I didn't enjoy this storyline. Yeah. Because I just didn't. I felt like it was a departure from who she was. Well, I could see it being like... You like a PTSD thing or like a trauma thing where suddenly you've gotten rattled and you have to get your mojo back. But this feels like a lot. Something's definitely wrong. That can't be scarred. There you go. Bingo. It's cool move. I wonder if that's a real pilot thing like to block this on as he... I think it is. I think it is. I feel like David told me that. Yeah. Look at his pilot. Like something that they would feed in. There you are. I got this one. It's a sharp back. I'm being bound about 15 now. All right, Scar, let's see how much you like playing chicken when you can't down
like a bitch. How's the field? You're faster. One of us is going to have to break away first and then this is going to be me. I always hated when Inky rewinds in this ship and I'm like, I'm just going to jump in the ship. I have to exposition. So the audience knows what I'm doing. Don't break, Sarbac. He's going to break. He's going to do it. He's going to break. It's too bad. They don't need you to say that for us to get it. Like all we need is Katz line there. He's a machine. He's not going to break. You can just say, yes, he is. Yes, he is. Yes, he is. Come on, he's doing that. Come on. Oh, such a different lighting for your helmet there. I'm coming back. I said it. I meant it. Hmm. I do think it's because we're missing some of those moments. Yeah, I think this feels like I've manufactured. This was many episodes ago. Yeah. It's too far apart. Beautiful eyes, though. Look at those beautiful eyes. Thanks, babe. Yeah, that's great.
My little hazel babies. Yeah, those little hazel babies. God dammit. Was it a hard feeder? Remember to say God's dammit? Is that a god dammit? Sometimes. Yeah. It's something. Motherfucker was harder. Oh, yeah. Do not miss a new frack in Stim Junky. So she did break. She did break because she realizes that she doesn't want to do a suicide mission. There you go. She didn't want to do a suicide mission. And she's going to let Cat get the kill like that either. Cat gets the kill. Oh, man. I guess that's the lesson, right? It's like. Woohoo! Woohoo! Stop it. Oh, stop it. Let go of him, you better. Woohoo! Yeah. Oh, man. I feel bad for Starbuck. She doesn't get to be the best. She doesn't get the applause. Yeah. But she did earn Cat's respect back.
Maybe. Hi, Starbuck! Yeah. My cup run is dry. Hmm. Seems I recall somebody boasting that my lips wouldn't have touched this room. Tom is there too. Yeah, they really took a time. Look at Ty. Look at Ty's little smile. He's so happy. Hmm. She's hard to like. Wait, I think your hand switched as you came back. Look that you grabbed like that. I did. I know, but then when you went turn, your hand was upright. No, it's not. I think it kept going on like that stuff. I'll just look back and look at it. I think it was. See? All right. There it was. You guys also waste a lot of booze. Mm-hmm. In the show. I don't like really nice stuff. Hmm. They're proud of you. Your brothers. To BB.
JoJo. See, she does know all the names. Riley. Bino. Dipper. Flat top. Chuckles. Jolly. Crash down. Shepard. Dash. See, she never does everything. All we want that remembers to. She knows them all, but she has to carry that. Stepped top. Firebow. Jesus. Two all of them. So say we all. Mm. So say we all. Nice. Yeah, I thought that might be the case, but yeah, it's hard. Well, see that one. You know, I don't know. Oh, so wait. I'm going to take an outscore. Yeah, this is this. Head on pass straight for him. Just needed to get a little closer. Or maybe there's this is a mirror of the scene that was on me. I didn't process faster. It was too good. A couple months ago, I wouldn't have thought about that. But it just gone for the glory. Hoping I could pull it out of the fire somehow. Quick kicking yourself. Mm. You did the right thing and called in your wing, man. Okay?
Scarge's dead. You and Kat came back alive. How are for that, right? I like their relationship. Yeah. That's good. Okay, over this interesting hope that maybe he's alive. Mm-hmm. It's into the music too. You guys have no live for now. You got just die for. Tom and I was all about that. Our hero knows all about that. Mm-hmm. Oh, wait. Oh, wait. He's really too nice too. Tom was too nice to even like. Goat. Oh, whoa. These two, they make me laugh. Yeah. It just seems kind of unscripted too. You like your belly wet? That laugh that you did wasn't even Starma. No, no, it's just the two of us being dumbed up. Pure Katie and Tom on the end at the end there. That's so funny. That was funny. Yeah. You guys were just great. They were citing the names. I think that was it. Well, especially because it just keeps going. It should have been a little weird for it to be like five games. No, like the fact that she knows, and that's the kicker. She knows every single one.
She has always pretended and just showing everybody that she's put up this barrier. Right. But there's a reason why she was drinking so much. It's that the Andres of it all that. That one tells episode of. No. Oh. She's. Look, my mom. My mom. It's too much. Yeah. How top of all the other names that she's got and all that. Well, I think that's the thing, right? Is that like the thing that Kat's not giving Starbuck four? Is that, you know, Kat can sit there and she can say that it's your fault. But nothing Kat says to Starbuck. She hasn't already said to herself. Totally. It's that guilt when you're in charge. Yeah. Every single death is on your hands. Yeah, that's why you don't even fucking have a clue. You don't have to carry the weight of all these names. That's why you can't remember his girlfriend's name. Because you don't have to. Starbuck, I'm sure Starbuck remembers. Everyone even is not directly her fault. Yeah. But as a leader in the situation, too, you have to be able to compartmentalize. Right. But that's the thing that she says to Kat when they're on the stairs.
When she says to her, you know, I either put them out there and believe that he's a certified pilot. Or we ground them and then we're short one person, you make the call. It's your call. These are so bad. Because I'm the one that's making these calls. And when someone dies, it's my fault. But fine, you make the call. And also this is the military. Everyone who is here has to is a soldier. And every soldier has to serve their job. I'm sure there's line cooks. People are clearly making liquor somewhere. Go get a different job. Go get a different job if you have to. Go get a different job. Yeah, interesting. At some point, I think we're going to need to go and watch all the deleted scenes for all these episodes. It is 10.59. Okay. We're going to blast through some questions. These are from Patreon. So go to patreon.com slash the sack of show. If you want your questions, answer. Go on and answer really fast. Here we go. This is from Joe. We'd love to hear your thoughts on these insights about Karr's relationships in this episode. By this point in the series, had you discussed Karr's backstory with Zach and what their relationship was like before his death? And do you think there's a part of Karr that has idealized Sam in her head because it's easier than confronting her very complicated feelings for Lee?
Tusha. I, you know what? I don't know if I... I don't know. The thing is they've done it to separation from Lee. I didn't... I kind of believed her when she talked about Sam and how she's hung up on the sky that she thinks is dead and Lee's there. I didn't feel... They've really done a good job in like the last couple episodes to put a wedge between these two. And I don't know if they've done it because we, at this point, I think they knew Truco was coming back. Maybe that's why they did it. Right. I don't know because the duala of it all was sort of like, you know, like there's people that have been sprinkled in. So I don't really know exactly what it is. I mean, I knew it... I think at this point, I think Truco comes back in a couple episodes. I'm not sure how many he was actually gone. I don't remember. Did you and Jamie discuss what Lee and Karr's backstory was? No. The exact of it all and everything. No. Not that I remember. We may have, but I don't think so. And Rika says, in Scar, Karr is fighting for more than just a legendary silent raider. She is essentially fighting herself.
How did you approach playing Starbeck at a point where herself destructive tendencies heavy drinking and grief are completely taking over? So this is a hard one. I remember this episode. And I remember not liking it when I was doing it. I remember I didn't interview after where I talked about how I didn't like the cat character. I think it was taking out a context. Or it was not on, yeah, I misinterpreted. Because it had nothing to do with Luciana. Right. And he's a phenomenal actress. She was given lines and she did her thing. It was not about her. It was about the character. I didn't like that Starbeck felt like such a departure. And unfortunately, you know, as an actor and as a viewer, I blamed Karr. I was like... He's like the other character instead of just that it was just a rough did ya. Because I felt weird to me. So I knew that I didn't like it in the moment. But what I did hold on to in this episode was how much Karr was drinking. I think it's the first time we've actually seen her like a BU's alcohol and have alcohol actually a fester.
So I sort of felt like, oh, she's just a badass drinker. She can drink a lot of alcohol and she can handle it. And she might have. But now it's not. This is very different. And this is like Apple Doth Forest, the actress. That's totally the saying you nailed it. Thanks, man. You nailed it. Thanks, thanks, no no. The Apple Doth Forest, if it's from the farthest of the trees, if that perhaps it's beef so close, despite this being you're not liking this episode, there's great performances in the film. Of course, the performances are fantastic. I was phenomenal in the episode. Let's be clear. I was great in it. I just didn't like it. All right. The dynamic with Kat in this episode reaches a brutal, desperate edge that can be for kill counts. How did you and Luciana Caro handle those high tension scenes? And how did you view Kat's role as a mere to Carrizone Tramaway? You just heard Kate went on the news until everyone in the movie sucks. No, not what you did. I never said Luciana.
I'm reverse. No. I said the character and nothing to do with that. She didn't handle it well. No. I, you know, I, maybe I learned not to do honest in interviews. But no, I just didn't. Luciana and I in the moment were just super in the moment with those characters. We, I got, we got along great together. What they're not homosodian, so. No. No. Yeah, it wasn't carrying over. No. The drinking scene with Lee at the end of Scar features that iconic moment where Carriz spit takes her drink to bring the heavy mood. And that beat scripted or improvised and how did he balance the humor with the rob hanging underneath? So I do not believe that it was scripted. I don't think so either just from watching it. I don't believe it was, but I could be wrong. Here's, I have always leaned, especially in this show as an actor, I always leaned on humor. And I did so like purposefully because I learned in the episode with the stems in, in episode 33, that in intense moments, humor is always there.
There's so much tension and sometimes laughter breaks it. And as an actor, I just have to let myself go to those places. Sometimes I try to, you know, I just, if I feel like I'm going to laugh, I laugh there. I think there were moments with Luciana where like cat would be screaming at her and like, I think like Starbuck, she's like, almost laughing. Yeah. Because she's just like the absurdity of this. And it works with a character too, I mean, that's what they take. Like, almost everything the Starbuck does is to cover how much pain she's. And that's 100% who care is. And I always went back to that as an actor. Everything she does is to hide her pain. And that's, what's interesting is she cries a lot. Yeah, I mean, you can't stop her from leaking out every now and then. Imagine how much pain she's in when she's hard. It's even getting out and she still got more in there. Yeah, yeah. A lot of trauma. Kate says, based on how this episode ended with the flashback with Karen's promise to Anders prompting her to snap out of her death wish and help Kate. Kate take out scar. Do you think Karen's heart is with Anders at this point in the show also was that Elbow drop on Tomo at the end of the episode improvised.
I think it was in fries. It looks so much. I think it was. It was so much like you. Yeah. That was me just being a ton of in Tomo and I having fun. It's also hard. It almost you don't really as a writer. You don't really script that specifically that too. That's a lot of specificity. It would be more like and they. And they're. Yeah, and that's the ground and she wrestling to that and they laugh. Yeah, yeah, to be specific about an elbow drop. Yeah. And that's my go to move all the time. Like we like very well. She does. Okay. This is the inside baseball deep into our lives here. Kate does not wrestle well. Kill me. I'm like a pretty. I'm not like a big tough guy, but I'm pretty strong and I'm tough. She has no play mode. It's like aggressive as shit. And that's all. That's the only button she has. And then she comes into like really like she tickles you. It's all fingernail and it's super hard and so in your ribs. In her. Yeah, it is like zero chill in her wrestling game. And so then when she comes on wrestling with the kids and I'm doing fun and I go to wrestle her all of a sudden I'm fighting a bear.
And she's dropping elbows. Watch out. Watch out. It's not fun. Is it? You should have married someone else. A little bit more delicate. I just want you all to know what happens. She seems so sweet and kind and then you start wrestling. And you're like, I thought I just flipped you over and then you flipped me. And she's like, no, I'm not fighting you. I got to try. I'm not going to use all my muscles. I'm not going to use all my muscles. I'm a badger. Don't take my shit. I can't even badger. Don't take shit. All right. Tara Jell says dead guy issues. Does Lee nail it? That cares fine with the dead guys, but can't deal with the living ones. And how much of her utter focus on rescuing Sam to the point that she suddenly inexplicably sucks out. It's because she didn't save Zack. You're all of it. I mean, I so much of it. Yeah. I don't know. So much of it stems back from doing the wrong thing and not doing the right thing. And she puts so much pressure on herself. I really think we lost out on this missing boxing scene episode. We didn't see where you talk about Zach because I feel like Zach has been hasn't been mentioned for so long.
That it's not like you're harder in your back. I'm almost so disappointed that I feel like we should be watching this somewhere else. Yeah, I know that was that was bad. Like to have them do the like this like what happened previously and be referencing scenes that we never even got to see. Yeah, because they like it. Yeah, it's bad. Yeah, I because right now I don't I feel like we're not getting the right perspective because I don't feel like it's justified. How much is focusing on Sam? Yeah. And I also don't think it's about Zack because we're not seeing that earned. I agree. I agree. I agree. Yeah, so yeah, Tara, sorry. Petra, rewatching Battle Star, listening to this podcast and listening to Trisha's Galactic cast at the same time. At the same time. Holy moly. As a series went on and you developed friendships with the other actors and deep in those relationships. I don't know what you're talking about. I hate the best. Who do you feel it affected? Who do you feel it affected your character interactions in the show? For example, as a relationship with Eddie grew, how did it affect the star book, a Dama relationship? Was it more significant with some characters than others?
I don't think so. I mean, I think there's a level of trust that inherently you just have to naturally give to other actors when you're working with them. So I think that the trust that builds over time that becomes like natural and real makes your job that much easier. But I don't think it changes. I don't know. It's kind of hard to measure because it also adds you character you're spending more time with like these for the Dama reference. Like you're spending more time with Eddie and you're also spending more time with the Dama. So it makes it naturally. I mean, I do think that it probably changed my name Thomas relationship. Because I think that like so we go back to the elbow drop scene at the end. The producers, the writers, the studio sees that and they go, oh, they're cute together. We should have them do more stuff together. Right. Lines the mood. So yeah, so I mean that absolutely could be the case. And then you said, I've always thought the mug beerstein from the episode looked neat. Have you thought about selling a version of it on your merch store? See anyone think of the backstory when or when or why the mug was used in the past.
And if so, I'd love to hear any of it. So you can buy them you guys. I don't have the real one. We don't have the armor. I don't have the real one. No, but the real one was sold in that auction. So I don't know who has it. I have a replica one that you can buy. Like you can actually buy that. And I don't know if we could actually. I think that would be a licensing. Like we would legitimately have to like. Yeah, that's one thing to sell like snuggle silent t-shirts or whatever we're selling right now. Yeah, it's completely different thing to be like. Yeah. You know, here's your product. Here's a product from the show. But we wish we could. We would if we could. You never know. We might change our minds. Okay. We got a bit. Okay, you guys. Go to patreon.com slash the sack of show. You want to join us. Come back next week. For our next episode, which we're probably going to film tomorrow. We got to get through two more. We're going to get through two more. We got to crush it. Go to the patreon and because you'll get the unedited watch long. So you get to watch the whole thing. And also the discord access.
