Saints Sign Ty Chandler, Seek Running Back Depth

The New Orleans Saints bolstered their running back group this Tuesday by signing free agent

Thai Chandler from the Minnesota Vikings.

The 28-year-old has four NFL seasons under his belt, rushing for 710 yards at 3.9 yards

per carry.

He also added 30 catches for 212 yards, with his standout 2023 campaign featuring 461

rushing.

The yards and 159 receiving Chandler sat out most of last season with the knee injury

after playing every one of the previous 34 regular season games.

His offensive snaps totaled just 460 over those two years, but he chipped in on special

teams as a kick returner, averaging 25, 0.3 yards on 15 returns.

The Saints desperately needed depth at the position after losing Alvin Kamara, Devon

Neal, and Kendre Miller for the end of last season.

Kamara has slowed with age, while Miller has missed 30-51 career games.

Analysts rate the signing AC-minus, citing Chandler's injury issues and modest production

as an inside runner.

That said, the deal carries zero risk on a one-year veteran minimum contract.

Chandler could vie for kick return duties too, filling a gap left by the trade of Rashid

Shaheed, whose replacements underperformed.

Looking ahead, New Orleans will likely draft more backfield talent and return competition.
