Arizona Diamondbacks veteran first baseman Carlo Santana left their series finale against the Atlanta Braze with an apparent injury. It went down on a check swing in the bottom of the second inning. The 39-year-old pushed through to finish his at bat and ripped a bloop single to left, but he limped badly to first and got pulled right. After, Ildemaro Vargas came in to pinch run for him and the inning ended on a double-play grounder by Tim Tawa. No official word yet on what Santana tweaked or how serious it might be, but the team is monitoring close. Santana joined Arizona to shore up their infield defense with his goal-glove chops, but his bats been ice cold so far. He's hitting just 0.083 with two base hits over his first six games this 20-26 season. The D-backs are already stretched thin at first base. Paven Smith is on the injured list with elbow inflammation, and Tyler Locklear is still working back from surgeries on his elbow and shoulder.
