We're live right now. Oh, you didn't even do an intro. Oh my God. And we're live time out. Time out. No time out. Me. It did that. It screwed it up. I'm sorry. It didn't have the B team on there. I didn't notice it. I clicked the button. You and then I messed up. Yep. It's on me. Everybody. I'll take it. It's not. I'm stocked. It's me. We're here now. Sometimes stuff happens. It's fine. That's the second podcast tonight. Shit's gonna get screwed. And what, you know, life. Do you want me to play one now? Yes. I just do. You coward. So we are scared money. Don't make money on Jack Rabbit Illustrated YouTube and Facebook as well as the fans nation network on YouTube. Thank you everybody for joining us tonight here for our little gambling show of sorts. We don't promote you gambling away your house
and food for your children's table. If you do that, you suck. Go get help. There's hotlines for it. However, our suggestions are for entertainment purposes only. In fact, if you are using our Intel for any sort of profit, I feel very sorry for you. Right. Fun. Fun little way you can make with your friends is call the hotline. You wage on whether it's a boy or girl is going to answer the phone. Anyways, and then you fire a blank either way. Bang. Oh god, he's dead. Oh, we're terrible. That's not that's we're going to cancel Jesus. Oh yeah. I don't think they allow the Cowboys or the jacks down an SF80s guns and all more at all anymore Brandon. So gotta get a cap that off. So anyways, we are this is great sponsorship time. We're always brought to you by our show sponsor, Kubota dealers. Yeah, we should restart the stream Bob. I think this has been
a jesus disaster of a start. Oh my god. The title sponsor is Kubota dealers to South Dakota with nine locations cross grade status South Dakota. There's always a Kubota dealer in your unit to get you to some orange equipment today. They have part sales and service and a baby. Hi, there's a baby. Always brought to you. You can get yourself into some orange equipment today. And get yourself into anything you might need for your ranch, your home, your farm's dead. They have all the equipment. Stead skits, tears, tractors, compact subcompact tractors to take care of everything else. So thank you to Kubota dealers of South Dakota. We appreciate you greatly. This show was brought to you by cubby sports bar and drill downtown Brookings. Number one, sports bar and South Dakota. Get your wings, get your chiseled, get your smash burgers. It's all good all the time. That's not their motto, but it should be. I'll run that by my wife to bring up to our manager. Can you wave? Love it. Hi, Zina. Perfect. All right. Well, yeah, I agree. Do not
use our picks to wage your actual money, especially not last week. We didn't do very well. So we all went four and six except for Alex who went three and seven. So do you have this on a new spreadsheet? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Do you want access to it? Well, last year I get ridiculed for not using the same spreadsheet link. And now this year, I don't get this. And you don't need to test the spreadsheet. You are not to be trusted. I'm not talking about the perfect. I'll give you a view only license because you were messing around and Alex is the one who messed that. That was me. Remember that? He specifically messed it up. That was not me. Alex is the one screwed it up. Trust me. Give me full access. It'll be fine. That's good. That's not worrying about. Anyway, yeah, we didn't do great. But there were some unexpected outcomes that
will go over now. So Tennessee Tech, they really good to who's a recap section brought to you by. Oh, somebody awesome. The recap section is brought to you by Blue Tech Car. No, that's a J.A. It's had a great thing. Oh my god. Yes. Yes. Had a branch. Shout out to his wife. Oh, they they stopped by the tailgate. And they were handing out some they got some neat sticks now from Hedge Granch. They're they're developing neat sticks and they were delicious. I tell you what, which if you've had anything from Hedge Granch, you expect nothing less. They were very, very good. And they're developing their recipe, making sure it's good to go. And then they're going to start offering those. So that was very, very exciting to get to try those because they're very good as is everything from Hedge Granch. So thank you, Hedge Granch for sponsoring the recap segment.
Now that we've done that, Tennessee Tech took care of mom, 38, 14, covered the spread pretty easily. Lamar. What do you got going on? Oh, hey. Anyway, this is madness. Sitting right there. I'm looking at the I'm looking at the spreadsheet. Anyway, Lamar was an underdog at home, which I usually take home dogs. I don't know why I didn't do that. But Lamar, one 21 to 14, over Abelian Christian, do either of you have any comments on those games, those were the CS nation radio games of the week last week. Tennessee Tech result was not very surprising, especially with all mom, myth lost on their offense. And that was kind of the engine behind that team last year. Prop, maybe the Lamar game shouldn't have been so surprising. You know, Lamar had a really good
defense last year and Abelian has to replace quite a few good pieces. And it just an opus just first game or what, but it just it wasn't clicking for Abelian and Lamar's defense continued to be solid. And yeah, that's not a real good recipe if you're on the road and Abelian Christian there. Fine, Lamar. I'll believe in you. God. It's gotta be ruinin' my picks over it, which I mean kind of petty if you ask me, but it's fine. All right, so then we get into our Missouri Valley games. Brennan was the only one that believed in Illinois State and they showed the rest of us. They won 76 to 0, 8 up all those 54 and a half points they had to eat up to cover. Youngstown State, they took care of business look good. 43 to 10 against Mercyhurst. I was the only one to believe in the Youngstown State. So, yeah, well, yeah, take that.
Murray State let us down though. They did not cover. They lost 28 to 14 to Eastern Illinois. Not great there. Michael Badds, we are specifically blaming you. That's too be fair. Murray covered a lot last year. Not starting that way. Don't cover for him. Don't cover for Badds. He's a big boy. He's like, you're best fans. I got to help the guy out. I mean, the real problem though is that that was probably their best shot at a win. One of the bigger out of conference for sure. I think they have a nondee one. That's gonna bug me. Close. Yeah, I'm not sure. No, they got Valpo in two weeks. Better get that close. It's basically the same thing. So I paid finally really good. That's basically an odd d1.
We had West Florida opening up their first FCS game with the bang, winning 34 to 31 against Southern Illinois. Any comments on that one? Yeah. We'll get into it more probably. But that was that was kind of more of an ass kicking than that score would tell you. Southern Illinois scored in garage time to make it a one score loss. And do you know who won the turnover battle in that game and by how much? No Southern Illinois, I'm gonna guess by two and they lost anyways. They lost, but they won it by three. 17. Five. They won this time. 17. You keep making me guess we're just gonna get dumb with it. You get two. They lost the turnover battle by five and still one by three. That is an ass kicking.
Yeah, that's not good for them. Dude, their backup quarterback was terrible. He did okay with his legs, but he does not throw a good ball at all. Is he a quarterback or a running back? Quarterback. The first three passes I met, watched him throw. I heard DJ Williams got hurt. I turned it on. This cat's in there. The next three series he throws an interception. And then it's a false start on his next pass attempt that there are outside that he threw an interception, but a guy wiped out by the outside and then his next pass was followed up by an interception. You gotta have another guy. Yeah, got one other guy to try on that roster because that was horrible. The most lame duck throwing is it was bad. Not good. The other games we had were UND 142-21,
but did not cover and USD covered easily 59-20. In the end of state let us down. They had a close one's CMO beat. I'm 23-21. In the NSTSU obviously covered 70-7. The Kinkle model did not believe in STSU and paid for it. Like I said, myself Brendan and the model went 4 and 6. Alex went 3 and 7. 3p. 3p. 3p. Yeah, only other thoughts on the other games. I don't think CMOs that good this year, I guess we'll see. We might not know how good CMO is till week 8 because War for the Wheel, what's that gonna tell us now? The way STSU looks, that's not gonna tell us anything. It could tell us that CMOs bad. If they lose, yeah, that could tell us CMOs bad. We can find something out. We can find
out they're bad. That's very possible. I think this could only be good conversation. I think the UND result is interesting just because they were up 42-0 either towards the end of second quarter or early third quarter. Then obviously you give up 21. Maybe probably reading too much into it, but makes me question their depth just a little bit. You hand that game off to your young guys. You kind of hope they keep the trajectory going like we did. The only other thought on the USD game is Majesque. Look. Fantastic. That's off to him and that offense. I mean, they'll have, we'll get into it here. They got a little bit tougher matchup this week, but not crazily so. They look good. That was one of the big
questions was how good can he be and through one game he was fantastic. We'll see if he can keep it going against better competition. I don't know that it'll be interesting to see what we'll get to the game later, but they play Northern Colorado this week. It's a little bit more of a test than Central Connecticut. I do want to see if he's the real deal or not. I fear they might be pretty good this year, but they looked the way a good team would look in that game. As a right now, I can't take anything away from him. He wasn't forced to go through his progressions a lot or anything, but that's not his fault. His first read was open. He made the right reads and the right throws all games. I can't really knock him for that. We'll see what's
to come. For sure. Well, with that, should we get into the picks for next week? Well, we should talk about a sponsor for the picks for next week. Well, first of all, we're going to talk about a sponsor for JIA, which let me pull up that real quick. Yeah, I do. Do you know the sponsors for that? Blue tide car wash. Yeah. What do you think? Yeah, you go ahead. Blue tide car wash. That's not going to be all year. It might be. I didn't have time to make a new one. So it's what it is for now. Oh my god. What? Boo. It's blue tide car wash with locations all oversoo falls and in Mitchell and Brookings as well. They are the number one place to go get your car nice and shining clean. Get yourself a monthly package like I do. So that way, you can go as many times you want and save yourself money by doing
it. You know, why get your car clean just once for the same price as being able to get it cleaned, you know, two, three, four times. Go get yourself a month of car wash subscription. You'll be able to keep that nice car yours. That is, you know, not an insignificant investment in your life. Protect it with a bunch of car washes for a lot cheaper than it would cost to do it once or twice. So go down to blue tide car wash and then we'll treat you right. They do a great job. If you do have something that you want touched up, they'll just go through a second time. They'll take care of you and get it all fixed up. Not a big deal. No problem. Just easy peasy. Take a ride through the tunnel washes that they have or they have touchless automatics as well as the soft touch automatics as well all over town. There's always a blue tide near you and Sioux Falls Brookings or Mitchell. And the pick segment is brought to you by innovative engineer. Yes. Are we skipping JIA? Well, JIA is integrating it. It's integrated now.
Oh, it's all big. It's all one thing. You've created a bit of a monster on the Facebook page, by the way, and just amongst the fans. I don't know if you've noticed, like, oh my God. Oh, the AI. Yeah. AI flying around everywhere. Oh, I don't think creating a movement. I'm not taking credit. Oh, no, you get responsibility. This was for any AI images that create that are created outside of what I created. It was as if they were all indirectly created by you, Ben. No, not at all. In fact, if you see anything, SCSC related, that is AI. You owe Ben Pearson royalties. You know, I think everybody should be able to bend in every chakra, but AI. Yeah, I don't need that. I think they should do that. Anyway, innovative engineering. Thank you to the first sponsor,
pick segment. They are mechanical engineering firm based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They can take care of your HVAC, plumbing, energy conservation, fire protection needs. If you need any mechanical engineering for a commercial building, call innovative engineering innovative engineering solutions out of Sioux Falls. Thank you. All right, with that, let's get into the first pick of the week, which again, the art of conference matchups are sponsored by FCS Nation Radio. And what are you laughing about? Oh, yes. Thank you to Kevin and Stone for sponsoring out of conference matchups. The first matchup we have is Delaware State going to William and Mary, Delaware State coming off a big win. And William and Mary's going to come off a bigger win.
If you didn't catch the end of that game, they scored a touchdown with not only their playing Villanova, who was obviously ranked pretty highly last week. They scored a touchdown to tie it with like, a minute and 30 left. They're out of time out. It's got the onside kick. Kick the tying field goal with like 30 to 40 seconds left. Kick to deep. Villanova comes out slinging it with their quarterback who might not even technically be eligible. So that's a whole separate B plot to this whole thing. Throwes a pick. William and Mary intercepts around the 25. Trust the field goal unit out there. Kicks the field goal. I still have expires to win just a wild last few minutes of that game. Yeah, I mean, it was I guess technically a big win, but I Villanova gave that game away way more than William and Mary wanted at the end. But for sure, it's, but anyway, William and Mary favored by eight and a half at home.
So, model says William and Mary by 14.1. I have no faith in William and Mary. So I'm going to take the plucky Delaware state to continue their wildly upward trajectory. They're improbable upward trajectory. If you look at them just what two years ago, incredible turnaround that's being orchestrated over there. So I'm going to I'm going to follow I'd say I'd follow Caves anti East Coast bias, but they're Delaware state. So they're still far to that. Yeah, so I'm going to go ahead and take DSU to cover. Give me the hornets and stop by FCSNationRadio.com. He's got they've got all sorts of articles on there and everything else that are great, great resources to get your knowledge up on the subdivision. They're on 9, 10, the ranch,
I believe in Brookings. They're nationally syndicated all across the country. So never fear Kevin is near wherever you are in the across the country, which now that I said that out loud, this is a little creepy. Yeah, or if you can't catch them on the radio, their podcast drops every Friday. Listen to Saturday on the way down to the games. I do that all the time. Listen to Kevin Stone, chop it up. So thank you you guys for sponsoring this pick segment. Yeah, and I will say as a person that struggles with ADHD a bit, their podcast is great. They rifle through games very fast and efficiently, way much more fast and efficiently than we do. And they do make picks over there. So yeah, definitely check out FCSNationRadio podcast. It's great. They're like the antithesis of us. This is true. Yeah, much more professional polished. It's a good show. But anyway, I will take
William and Mary. I think the spreads low enough that I can see them when I'm by a couple of scores at home. So I'll trust them. I do love Delaware States rise and what Deshant Jackson's doing there. But I'll take William and Mary. Yeah, I know. Go ahead, Alex. No, you first. Okay, I don't have a ton to add to that. I think, you know, helps when you're a name brand in yourself, right? That right to recruit. I love what Deshant Jackson's doing down there, though. You know, he's he's got the right people in place on his staff and he's doing a lot of good things. Obviously, but the fact, you know, eight points is probably about right. But the fact it's in William's bird, I think. You got to give not that either place is especially hard to play. But I do think just from the travel and everything like that, you got to give William and Mary enough of the edge, I think we're the coverer of score.
Fair enough. I was going to say of all the players from Deshant Jackson's era, I would not have picked him to be the guy to completely turn around and perform one of the best bottom jobs in the country. Right. Right. And turn around one of the worst programs in any of any division into a consistently winning program. That is good for him. Yeah. And you know, people say consistently winning. They're like 500 last year. I don't think you realize, was that Delaware state like three, four years ago, like they didn't have a kicking net like right before he got there, was that them? I think it sounds right. Yeah. More up. They had a tore up kicking net. Yeah. I mean, like, you know, obviously, Deshant Jackson is assuming he's been smart with his money, has some money, but you would be surprised how far that doesn't maybe go sometimes in modern college football, even in the meack. So he's he's doing a lot with a lot less than people realize is what I'm trying
to get out there. Yeah. He's doing great. Next up, we've got Tennessee Tech going to Chattanooga and Tennessee Tech is favored by 12 and a half on the road. What did you say in the spread? Well, sorry. Tennessee Tech favored by 12 and a half. Models as Tennessee Tech, but only by 3.7. Yeah, I'm taking Chatti in this one at home. First, though, we see a game against the new kids on the block. I am not a Tennessee Tech believer yet because they played one good team all last season. And did you mean so? So con. Yes. Oh, God. Kevin's going to kill me on his read too. Yeah. That my I can't believe my phone's not buzzing already. Yeah. So anyway, that's good. Yeah. But no, I think Chatti's going to hang with them. And at most, I think it's 10 point game.
Not what you say 12 and a half. Yeah. Yeah. That's a lot. Give me Chatti all day. So you guys are all on Chattanooga. I believe in Tennessee Tech. I will take them. I think they look good in their first first week out. And I'll take them to keep them momentum going. Meeting mom of 3814. I have a guy that's what you think of mom. I think it's statement enough. So I will trust them. Head. Go ahead. Did you write those bullet points? I did not. This is all AI. Okay. Yeah. All right. Just making sure. Yep. Nope. It was not me. Next up, we have. Oh, go ahead. Richard. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Timothy, say, and Chattanooga may not score more than 10 points. I do think Tennessee Tech's defense
is good. And they played really well last week. But my counterpoint to that would be if you look at Chattanooga's offense. They, you know, they move the ball pretty good, especially like at some of the efficiency numbers. They only put up 24 on West Georgia, but it was kind of a low possession football game. I don't I just feel like 12s a lot. I think Chattanooga over here. This is this is a big game early on for the Socon because Chattanooga is right as far as within the Socon itself, one of those probably tier two teams. So this is definitely one Tennessee Tech has to show up for it. And I think Tennessee Tech wins, but I don't I don't know. That's a that's a lot of points for an early conference game for me. So you're taking Chattanooga Chattanooga as well. All right. I'm all alone taking Tennessee Tech. All right. So our first Missouri Valley game for the week. We've got Southern Illinois going to Sanford Big spread here. Southern Illinois is favored
by 24 and a half on the road. So the model has Southern Illinois by 13. Unless DJ Williams is making a remarkable comeback. I'm going to take Sanford at home. So that many points. Nick Hill studies week to week, but who knows how much of that is coach speak. I bet it's not this week. And part of that, you know, obviously football coaches don't care about covering a spread. baseball coaches might, if you're, you know, Pete Rose, but football coaches generally don't. You know, this is Sanford's not good this year. They're bad. They're bad. So con team. They're a bad national team. So if you can't beat them without DJ Williams, I mean, you know, everyone's talking about all their seasons over and they're season got a lot
tougher by dropping that game last week, but it's week one to have everyone look at it. Let's not be super over the top with our hyperbully. But yeah, I don't, I don't think they can score 24 without DJ Williams. I think Southern Illinois covers, but I think they probably, they went comfortably. I'm kind of following the model here. I think it's like a two two and a half score game, not a two to three score game. It's a human Sanford covers. Yes, sorry. Sanford covers. Yeah, I'll take Sanford as well. That's just too many points, especially with the uncertainty with Williams. And like you said, a Southern Illinois just didn't look that good the first week anyway. So next up, we have first FCS FBS matchup of the day, Indiana State going to Purdue. Purdue is favored by a whopping 36 and a half points.
Models says boiler makers by 31. So trees will cover. I'm also going to take the trees to cover in this. I don't think they're good. And I don't, I just think they're going to play up a bit from what they actually are and keep this to like a 30 point game or a 28 point game. Yeah, you know, um, Purdue's defense was really bad last year. And Indiana State did, you know, relative to how many points they scored. They had some turnovers and stuff like that, which is always right, could be a problem in and of itself, but assuming they can clean some of that up, they did move the ball okay last week. Not like astoundingly, but they were, they looked like they knew what they were doing on offense, you know, and going back to that ties in this speed of listen, some of our coverage and from media day and whatnot.
You know, they got that new offensive coordinator. The scheme looked good. And I think the kids are still growing into it, but they looked competent. So that's to say, Purdue's got a bad defense. Indiana State has Elijah Owens in an okay offense. I think Purdue wins. It's a bad P-14, but it's still a P-14 against Indiana State, but 30, 35's a lot. So I think Indiana State covers here too. Yeah, I do too. I'll trust Elijah Owens. I will say that Indiana State in 2022 lost 0 to 56 and 2024 lost 0 to 49. So Purdue was good in 2020. Yeah, that helps, but in Indiana State is better now than they were, I think. So I just want to point out that I'm pretty sure Timothy hates my picks with his comments and the chat. He does not like him. That's great. All right, next up we've got another FCS FPS matchup, Youngstown State going to Kentucky. And we've got Kentucky
favored by 23 and a half. Model says Kentucky by 22 and a half. So it is just barely going to take the penguins to cover. This one's tough because Kentucky's not going to be that great, at least by SEC standards this year. And Youngstown is obviously going to be good FCS team to the thing that gives me pause when you're going into a power for environment like that. So obviously Youngstown won big last week because we talked about, but it was Mercyhurst. And Mercyhurst is not like a super great opponent. I'm going to do Brendan's favorite again. We're going to play a guessing game. Anyone want to take a stab at what percentage of Youngstown's offense, Bro Bungard, Bo Brungard, a kind of four. Keeping in mind, he only played three and a quarter quarters. He's 85 to percent. 73 percent. And he only played for 80 percent of the game. That's crazy. That's yeah,
I just don't that's that a winning recipe against a P14 though. I hope he stays healthy doing that all year, but there's just no way like I and I know that he's smart and I know that he protects himself quite a bit. But man, just give the guy a rest like give hand the ball off a few times. I just can't believe how much they run him. But so yeah, I think I will digress from the model here. I think Kentucky covers. Oh wow. I got faith in Bro Bungard. I'll take I'll take Youngstown's state to cover 23 and a half. I think they keep it within I don't know 14 to 17 range. See, I didn't get to pick this yet. I did hurt. No, but I think you know, there's two ways this goes that Kentucky covers because Youngstown suddenly decides they care about both Bro Bungard's health and longevity as football player or
they run him to death and he potentially keeps this game under the spread. Now we know which way they are going to go and it's not leading towards don't run him 40 times. However, we see what can happen in these games with these SEC teams, big 12 teams were they just have freaky athletes on the outside and I don't think one player is going to be good enough to keep you in this game. And so I think even with as good as Bro Bungard is, I think Kentucky covers. All right. They don't have the defense to stop an SEC offense, even a bad one. Their defense look better last week, but it's you know, it's all some mercy hers. When mercy hers did play them in Montana State close last year, it wasn't because of their offense. Those were both great games. It was because mercy hers actually had kind of a solid defense last year, sneakily. Yep. All right. Next up, we've got St Thomas going to UND. UND is favored by 26 and a half
at home. Model had UND by 24. So it's just barely going to take St Thomas to cover. I'll go the other way. Go ahead, Brendan. Nope. You go. You go. I'm stepping on your picks because I'm excited. No, I think I think there's a little bit of extra motivation because you know, as we all know, being kind in the same geography, this is like a pseudo rivalry because you had to hear forever how good St Thomas was the D3 level and they were. I don't want to take that away from them. Brendan's got an interesting hat on. But St Thomas looks bad against when I went to state last week. And I think UND is really good this year. And I think sometimes you don't have to overthink things. Go ahead, Ben. This is this is a spice emite the ball. Are you kidding me? Like Brad, like Brad Kiddick says, UND St Thomas should have
lost to a D2 and owner last week. And when owner is not exactly a powerhouse of the NSIC. No, they're kind of middle to bottom. Grant the NSIC to a tough D2 conference, but they're usually middle to bottom of the conference. Right. So like Seth says, UND looked really good last week in the first half. They spoke to Tommy's. They're going to win by a billion. This is spicy meatball. 26. That's it. This should be a 35 point spread. Yeah, I would be surprised if it's close. Like you said, it looking at the result of that first game. Only scoring 15 points against why no no is bad. So I'll take you to why no no like someone who doesn't know where one on is. Okay. Winona. Why no no writer? Like why no no Minnesota? Nobody says that. Anyway, maniac. maniac. Next up, we've got Murray State going to middle Tennessee. Middle Tennessee is favored by 20 and a half at home. Models as middle Tennessee by 18.8.
So racers cover. This is so tough. It's like middle Tennessee is probably like a fifth place team in the valley. Like maybe even six or seventh, but obviously don't want to disparage Michael bats, but Murray State is Murray State. And middle Tennessee, you know, normally you kind of think these teams are sleepwalking their FCS game. This might be one of the only games middle Tennessee wins this year. So they're probably pretty fired up. They're going to probably be up for it. This is such a gross line in a gross game, but give me middle Tennessee to cover. I concur. Give me middle Tennessee to cover. I just you burn me once already Murray. This means they're naturally going to cover. So you're welcome, Michael, because I am incapable. Physically incapable going back, going back years of incorrectly making, picking Murray State games.
And I should be allowed to pick this last every time, because you guys could just fade me every time and game games on me. For Michael, I'm used to it with you guys. I want to, but I can't do it. I got to take middle Tennessee as well. I'll go for it. I didn't, I would have liked to see them play better against each other. I know I would have maybe had some faith, but no, I'll take middle Tennessee to cover there. Next up, not an FBS game. We've got UNI going to Eastern Washington, UNI's first game of the season. And Eastern Washington is favored by six and a half at home. Model has EWU, but only by 3.4. Eastern Washington's going to cover. UNI sucks. UNI sucks. For anybody who has faith in UNI, UNI sucks.
Canada point. So does Eastern Washington? I mean, they had a decent showing against Northern Arizona. On the red turn. I was going to say they did pretty good against Northern Arizona. That was, that was in the lockup sky to go to their credit, but how much of that was Northern Arizona, sleep walking through the first half. All of this to say, I'm playing Devils Advocate. I agree. Give me Eastern Washington by a touchdown, but that doesn't make for good TV or radio. Such a third. I will all take Eastern Washington as well. I think they look good enough last week. And like Brennan said, I don't think UNI is good. This is spicy meat ball territory, actually. I think Eastern Washington by a touchdown at home, in Northern I was first game of the season. Pretty solid. That's true. That's that's huge. And something we maybe get to in a second is, you know, Eastern Washington having a game under their belt, maybe having a few things to look at is huge compared to UNI coming out for
the first time with a new quarterback, some other transfers and key positions. I could, excuse me, that could really cause them some problems. Just to ask answer Kevin Marshall's question for anybody joining in later in the show. Jai is being merged a bit with the picks so that we can do a Jai for each game. Little eye candy for people to look at while we're making picks. So I don't have to look at our ugly mugs. How will we're here for? I can also take it down between picks. Two young Brendan's for. Kevin, if you did miss the out of conference games, you'll have to go back and listen to Erwin to watch those. Brad Caini, guess what happened to you and I, they were contented for decades in FCS going way back to when they were 1-2-a. They're not supporting anything athletically at that
university anymore, really. I mean, yeah, I mean, it seems like since Farley left for sure, but even since even before that, like since he, well, he couldn't, he couldn't keep it going like based on the new, the way college football is now and the buy-in that you have to have. Like you're saying, you and I just doesn't have it. And so his hands were kind of tight. I'll put it this way because a lot of you know where my other interests lie. You and I has had, you know, there's different thoughts across the country, including within our program at fanbase. Um, about the UNI wrestling program and there's their coaching staff because we go up against them for recruits and stuff quite often in former conference foe. But at the end of the day, you can't take away, they've been a proverbial probably top 15, if not top 10 program in the last four to five years. They tore down their wrestling facility because it was condemned and they didn't build them a new one or work with them.
The wrestling team themselves had to find a spot to practice in and they're basically renting out like a storage unit to train it. I mean, that's like we're talking a top 10 to 15 national program in their sport. This is a, yeah, as a university, they other than basketball, they're not investing in anything right now. Yeah, it's, it's kind of sad honestly. And Bob does point out that the Eastern Washington does have the same support issues there. Um, but Well, as they talked to Kyler about that in the past, because evidently, there's like one professor that raises a big stink like every year or two and it gets a lot of press. But the actual support is okay. Yeah, it's one guy thrown a fit every year for Eastern Washington. Uh, UNI, it feels like Iowa and Iowa State finally got they wanted and then to stop trying athletics. For sure.
All right, next up, uh, or did everybody make the picks in them when they believe East Washington? Yes. Okay. Uh, next up, we've got Illinois State going to West Illinois, Illinois State's favorite by 24 and a half on the road. Model, sorry, I'm trying to click the right line in this spreadsheet. Model has Western Illinois by 16. So it's going to take the redbirds to cover. Um, this is so interesting and so tough because both these teams played push-overs last week. And Western Illinois has looked better in the last year or two, but they're still, they're still Western Illinois. Um, um, and we didn't really get to see a ton of the Illinois State quarterbacks because they weren't, they weren't asked to do a lot. Um, sounds like Victor Dawson is hopefully going to play. And for that reason, I, I probably personally feel comfortable picking Illinois State to
him by three scores, but I don't know that I get like a warm fuzzy from doing it. Uh, I'll take Illinois State's cover. I will too. It's a lot of points, um, but I, they're a good team and Western Illinois is not. I don't have any faith in them at all. So the only thing it be is if they have a weird thing getting to make them, which some people do sometimes, but. Yeah. And then that coach goes on to coach one of your rivals and you have to see him a bunch more. Yeah. All right. Next up, we've got USD going to Northern Colorado in USD's favored by 21 and a half on the road. Model has Yotes by 18.6. So it's going to take Northern Colorado. Um, this one's tough because Northern Colorado's offense, um, actually was pretty good last week.
They, uh, didn't necessarily get the results to show for it, but they, they move the ball pretty well in that game. And there were some weird special teams and turnovers, just weird things from minor upset at Weber State. Um, I think Weber State's going to be kind of a middle pack big sky team this year. So it's not like. I think it's like a super big deal. Um, but on the same hand, USD traditionally has never really been super good on the road. So I think USD wins, but I think it's like that 13 to 18 range. Give me Northern Colorado to cover. I agree. It's too many points for me. I think USD will win, but I think it'll be less than less than three touchdowns. Um, I,
I think USD is going to cover. I think that wouldn't shock me. Sharp, I don't think UNC's defense is good enough. And I am very concerned about Northern Colorado's mental state of a team. It's got to feel like, oh, no, here we go again. After your last year, starting the season off, losing games, they should have won. And then you immediately start off by having two extra points blocked and losing by one point. Um, and now here comes the team who is probably kind of annoyed because in South Dakota, this game's been that game last year still being talked about about how close that game was. So I got a little bit of a feeling that they're going to come out with a point to prove. Um, unless their road woes are back, but I don't know, I, I for some of the members think they're going to cover. Did they ever get rid of them? I mean, I don't know the well enough to make it to the playoffs a couple of years or
a row and get seeds. I mean, in the past, they wouldn't know. They haven't lost the games that usually lose on the road, but they've still consistently underperformed on the road. There's that. There's that. I don't know. You know, you will not change my vote. I wasn't trying to. I was just making conversation. No, you were. It's too late. I've decided. Yeah, here's, here's the road. Here's the road games last year just for fun quick. So they blew out Merce from the playoffs fair enough, but they got their junk slammed in the door worse than we did against Montana. Um, only beat you and I by three. Only beat Indiana State by four, not that, you know, glass houses there. Um, lost to Lamar by seven, lost to Iowa State by 40. You know what? I'm going to change my vote to the Bears covering. Really? Yeah.
All right. There's a part of me doing it for the gag of a reverse jinks here, but if they didn't win a single game on the road by double digits last year, I don't know if that's going to. Other than Mercer. No. Mercer will ask the Presby. Right. That's true. Yeah, I don't know. New coach, new quarterback, new pretty much a lot of things there. So all right. Let's move on last but certainly not to release. Same culture. Uh, we've got SDSU going to Northwestern and the spread is only 13 and a half Northwestern favor by cooking and half. Model says Northwestern by 8.7. I'm going to tell the model on this one. I think we cover. Um, I don't think I'm bold enough to pick us outright in this game, but I do think it's going to be a battle into the fourth quarter. Um, I, I kind of feel upset, Ben. It's just, I just get the vibes of a low scoring game again.
I, I, I don't know why, but I just do. No. I mean, I, I was putting kids to bed. So I got to go back and watch your guys show after this. So I'm going to probably going to talk about stuff you're already talked about. So I apologize in advance. It's okay. That's fine. We got to get your take. Um, this is so interesting to me. Because if you look at both sides of the ball, it's like, it's like opposite. Um, I think our offense is more balanced than theirs. Um, you know, if you listen to the Westlot, I hurt guys, I discovered a couple days ago, they're in Northwestern pod. If you got 30 minutes of free time, their preview on this game was really good actually. Um, they're turning over their whole offensive line. Granted, we know they're offensive line coach. She's a very good offensive line coach. Um, but they're still rebuilding that whole offensive line. They've got a very good wide receiver. I didn't want to really lose the youngest. He was
digging around trying to find himself a Z bar. Um, don't feel bad. We got one that age in her house. And we lost her in the middle of the night when she was in bed for a second. So, I, I lost the dog in his room last night because he somehow at two and a half were off the dog tip bed with him talent. Um, but anyhow, um, that a boy, Charlie, you're a stud. So I, I do think their offensive line's going to be solved this year, but this front seven on our team, I try and to take this hat off as much as I can, but it is, um, it's a power for level front seven. I mean, truthfully, it's, it's, I think it's going to be hard for them to run the ball. The unknowns on the back end of our defense and they're going to want to throw the ball quick. And they've got a good quarterback and a couple good receivers, one really good receiver. Um, on the other side, their secondary is fantastic. They've got a preseasonal American
safety, another preseasonal conference safety in corner. Um, if we're going to be able to be balanced, we're going to have to run the football on this game. And once again, their D line is turned over heavily. Um, but once again, they talked about name we're familiar with Christian Smith. He and David Braun kind of built in this program what they both experienced at SDSU and NDSU, where their goal is they're going to try to play eight or nine guys. Huh, that sounds familiar. Um, so it's going to be one of those things. It's, it's going to be whoever can find some balance on offense. Um, I think we make it closer than probably a 13 point game, but these, these power four upsets are so hard to come by. I mean, you think back to the Iowa and Minnesota games and how many things had to go right. And it was a bad snap here, you know, love, marker now, ski to death, but missing a deep shot, you know, these little things that just
were the difference in those games. And it's like everything has to go perfect with the disparity in the talent level. So give me the jacks to cover. I don't, I don't know that we win out right. That's just, that's going to be tough. I, I, go ahead, Ben, I'm stepping on you here. Go ahead. Oh, you're fine. Uh, I just, I'll take jacks to cover. Um, I, I think that, you know, things have to go right whenever you beat an FPS team, but, um, it wouldn't take a miracle to win this game. I think that what the, when the turnover battle talked a little bit earlier about the, how dynamic their quarterback is and, um, we'll have to keep him in the pocket, keep track of him because he's very, very athletic. And, uh, but if we can keep him in the pocket and, and force him to make good throws, um, he, he does, he's not the most accurate quarterback. Um, I think he really relies on plays breaking down. Why do you see, we're able to get some space away from
cornerbacks in order to get his completions. And so, um, I'm hoping that, uh, one of those, uh, in the accurate throws becomes an interception. And hopefully we can take care of the ball. And, uh, like we talked about on the B team, this, uh, you know, has potential to be chases, coming out party to the nation. And so hopefully we see a big game from chase. And, um, I'd love to see him use his feet because I, it's something that we've, uh, held back for a long time now. And, this, this is the type of game that you, you only should have been. And so, um, yeah, I'm excited to see that. And hopefully we can come in with a victory. Yeah, I think the keys to a win. Um, it, I think it'll be really important to get a lead, preferably early, right away, make, um, you know, make childs try to press. Um, I think that's really where you can force them into maybe
making a mistake if he's trying to do too much more so than, you know, he's gonna scramble, he's gonna get his yards. He's too good of an athlete, you know, I think to really box him up, our linebackers are gonna be really stressed. Um, hopefully they don't try to do hurry up because I think that would hurt us a little bit without being able to rotate our D line and linebackers in and out and keep them fresh. I think that'll be really important. Um, hopefully their coordinators don't watch this podcast. Right. Chip, can you imagine Chip Kelly just locked in on scared money, don't make money. I feel like if they watched any film the last two, three years, they're gonna know that, um, and a good way to piggyback off that not to steal your thunderbund, but a good way to do that is to get them behind on early downs. It's hard to play hurry up when it's second and third and long. Yep. I agree. Reese says they're watching now. They told her. So sick.
Some chip. Big dog. You store boys job. Hi, are you right? I am very jealous of you guys that are going out to the game. Uh, you off to y'all to cheer hard. I'm hoping that to see a lot of blue on the screen. I think we will. I think there's been a lot of people looking forward to this game for a long time. Um, having a big FPS game since Oklahoma State. And uh, this is a little easier to get to than that one. So yeah, shout out to Seth Meyer for giving me up with some sick tickets. Nice. Six rows up right on like the 40. Are you sure? Yeah. Yeah. I'm for sure going. Um, got that all set up. And if anybody, I was on the fence. So and I think, you know, if anybody's a little disappointed about missing out on the new stadium, uh, you can find solos in the fact that this stadium will never be played in again. And it is a very unique opportunity to watch a game. And that Northwestern stadium is going to be
there for a very long time. And there's potential that we could schedule them again in theory and have a chance to play in that one as well. So I'm not like super disappointed because this is just going to be kind of a cool little set up to see in person. Yeah. Yeah. Looks, it looks nice. It looks, I think it'll be, it'll be a really cool atmosphere because it's really like, you know, you're going to be on top of the field. Um, it's a, it's a soccer field. So there's probably not a whole lot of sideline. And, uh, it, I think it has, I mean, there's a better chance of us winning here than in their new stadium, I think. I think if it was their first game in the new stadium, there'd be a lot more fans show up, a lot more engaged. Um, you know, the way the ticket sales are going, it seems like they still, their fans at least, um, aren't seeing this as a, as a game that they really need to pay attention to. But, um, based on the coaches comments, I think they're well aware of what, what they have come in there. And they're going to be prepared. So. Yeah. I think
that's something that we should have brought up because whenever you have an FBS win, usually it takes some factor of the other team overlooking you. Right. Um, right. Usually. So, well, they have a buy next week. Yeah. They have a buy next week. Don't everybody to look past us too. Um, they have one of our former players. They had another one of our former players on their team last year. They've got a coach who coached against us all the time. Um, if they're looking past us, then it is they have pretty unreal, honestly. One of our former coaches and last year, they had two of our other former coaches. Yeah. Right. So, like, there's a boy, if they're looking past us, that'd be, that'd be insane, because I'm sure they're being beat over the head with it. Right. All right. Well, anything else before we head out? Um, point of order. We're talking about playing. And I mentioned our deal we're going to do for the Youngstown game, um, just with some
of the logistics of food and trying to, yes, that's as a firm to Seth Ryan Olson is still there. Probably not going to do a full blown diaper cake instead. I think we're going to do like a raffle first of all, there's some cubbies or culvers or had your green gift cards or something like that. And then we also may have some split the pot games in the vein of the show where you can gamble real life money. Um, do you, do you purchase the raffle ticket with the pack of diapers? You can purchase raffle tickets with the pack of diapers and there will be other games you can pay some cash on. So more information to that to come, Beth made sure to tell me to mention sizes two through four, but that will be for the Youngstown, uh, tailgate. Yes. And as Argyl says, they, the Northwestern coaches have this podcast. So they are completely doomed. I'm so screwed. Oh, no. Just, just the thought of not just Chip Kelly watching this podcast,
but dressed like he did for the construction worker picture sitting in a chair with the hard hat, that goofy little iPad, you know, it's not a live pad. Just going, these fools. No, I know. Giving me everything. Yes. All right. Well, thanks everybody for tuning in again. Uh, hopefully we'll be back next week. Celebrate a victory. Hell yeah. All right. Go big, go blue. Go, Jack. Go, Jacks.
