Max Scherzer has dominated spring training for the Toronto Blue Jays, including five

shut-out innings against Minnesota on Friday with just two hits, and 73 pitches.

But he won't break camp with the team on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Jays want him to make one more start in a minor league game in Florida next week

to build up to 90 pitches or six innings ensuring he's ready.

As a full starter for a season debut, with injuries sideline in key pitchers like Jose

Barrios, with an elbow stress fracture, Trey Yesavage, with shoulder trouble, and Shane

Bieber still, repping up, Toronto needs Scherzer in the mix right away for their opening

series against the athletics.

Reports suggest a Wednesday start in Dunedin would line him up perfectly, potentially for

a March 30th debut against Colorado or March 31st on Normal Rest, giving the team flexibility

around their off day.
