Scherzer Shines in Spring Debut

Max Sherzer looked sharp in his first spring training star for the Toronto Blue Jays.

The 41-year-old right-hander threw four no-hit innings in a one-nothing win over the Philadelphia

Phillies on Saturday.

He signed a one-year deal where $3 million in February and could earn another $10 million

in bonuses.

Now entering his 19th big league season, Sherzer needed just 40 pitches, including 29 strikes

with one strikeout and one walk.

Last year with the Jays, he went 5-5 with a 5.19 ERA over 17 starts.

In the postseason, he allowed just one run and 4-1-3rd innings during game 7 of the

World Series, a game that dodgers one, 5-4-in, 11 innings.

Sherzer has two World Series titles, one with Washington in 2019 and another with Texas

last year.

He's an eight-time all-star and ranks among the all-time greats.

Over his career with 7 teams, he owns a record of 221 wins and 117 losses with a 3.22 ERA.

He sits 11th in strikeouts with 3489, just 20 shy of Hall of Famer Walter Johnson.
