School fire in Congo kills at least 17 people, South Africa protests

It happened in Bukavu, the capital of the province of South Kivu. The victims reportedly died in a stampede as they tried to flee the flames. Several others are being treated for smoke and halation. Bukavu was controlled by the Rwanda-backed M23 fighters. And so the Africa protesters have been out on the streets of Durban, calling for undocumented migrants to leave the country. The gathering in front of refugee encampments outside the city's home affairs office. Hundreds of migrants fearing attacks have been sleeping on the pavement for months. It follows similar demonstrations in recent months.
