Seahawks Defense in Flux | NFL News

About this episode

Seahawks’ defense in trouble as key safeties Ty Okada (hamstring) and Nick Emmanwori (ankle surgery) face major doubts for Week 1, leaving the unit dangerously thin. Rookie Julian Neal’s full return from a quad injury is a bright spot on defense. Offensively, Tory Horton’s hamstring keeps him sidelined. Meanwhile, New England’s Christian Barmore and TreVeyon Henderson are also sidelined, with Henderson likely out and Barmore’s status uncertain.

On September 7th, alright, let's talk about the Seahawks defensive backfield is looking a little thin right now. Tio Cotta, who's stepping into a starting safety role, mispracticed with a hamstring issue. This comes as Nick Mnwery is still recovering from ankle surgery. With Bud Clark already out for the season, this leaves the team with very little healthy depth at safety. They do have some options on the practice squad, like Rodney Thomas II, Maxson Hook, Darthony Bell, and AJ Finley. With the fact that O'Cotta is sidelined, is definitely a concern heading into the season opener. Mnwery was limited in practice, so his availability for week one is still up in the air. On the offensive side, Wild receiver Tori Horton has also been dealing with a hamstring injury. He missed the entire preseason, and several practices leading up to it, and was limited in practice on Sunday. This adds another layer to the Seahawks offensive challenges. Now for some positive news, Rookie Cornerback Julian Neal was a full participant in practice.

He's been dealing with a quad injury since training camp and missed all of preseason. His return is a welcome side for the team's revamped cornerback situation. Over in New England, they've got their own injury concerns. Defensive tackle Christian Barmore, and running back, Trevian Henderson, both mispractice. Henderson is not expected to play this week after tweaking his ankle a couple of weeks back. Barmore is a key player on their defensive line, so his status is something to keep an eye on.
