Can I see them contending? Absolutely not. Do I hold out faint hope that they could be playoff competitive down the stretch? Yes. Alas, so many things have to break right and we'll get into that in a second. So I answered yes because of the way I define surprise. Yeah, I don't think that's that's how I defined it as well. I don't think anybody reads that as contending. I think that means flirting with playoff contention. But at the operand of that scale or flirting with playoff contention

4:12at the midway point of the season sort of thing, keeping people interested for a second or two. I think that constitutes surprise given this team was DFL by a wide margin last year. I think the answer is yes. I'm intrigued by the result so far. It's nearly 50. It's 50. 50 basically right now. Now we're in a half old or whatever. That's two hours old. So curious. DFL. One of the things that we often talk about at this time of year, particularly when optimism rains and people are looking and saying, boy, I really think the conucks could do this or it could get to there. The phrase improvement from within. And remember, every team around the league has the possibility of improvement from with it, right? Because they all have players who are going to fit into the two categories. I'm about to present, but here my mouth. Black, I can get to 16 Vancouver conucks where I think the phrase improvement from within applies 100% and that does not even include Braden Coots. So I'm sort of putting in his own category. We've been hosting this way too long together because I was going to

7:18do the exact same exercise of people that reasonably could be expected to improve. So and for me, it breaks down neatly eight vets, eight young players. Well, he's Patterson. Say no more. I won't point 100 player 100 point player 51 last year. I don't think there's a huge amount left for Marco Rossi to improve, but I can see Marco Rossi improving certainly point totals. If given more opportunity, because I think he is going to be given more opportunity. Then he was for most of his Minnesota wild career. He was a 60 point player with the wild a couple of years ago. He was a 35 point player, but it was only in 50 games between the wild and the conucks last year. But his rate with the conucks. And remember, his first six games he was injured and then he took a step away. So you almost throw those away. But even even if we don't, he had 22 points in 33 games. Right. So that's a 60 point pace right there. Yep.

8:22Philip Edel. Say no more. I mean, the guy's just been so lambasted with concussions and injuries. Linus Carlson as late bloomer. How did good year last year? But I think there's some more to give there. Is that fair? Oh, yeah. Not a massive couple of strides, but a stride forward. Yeah, sure. There's the ceiling on Linus Carlson. I think everybody will. But he had 15 goals. Can I picture 20? Sure. Yep. Yep. That's what I'm talking. He was 35 points. Can I see 40, 45? Yes. Absolutely. Yep. The aforementioned Mr. Carter. Again, I think in part it's going to be a little bit more opportunity. And the other thing is he's not that old. Like his unrestricted free agents go. He's amongst the youngest. This isn't a 30 plus journeyman just hanging on sort of thing. No, no, no. Again, we're not, I don't believe at least talking about a massive step forward.

9:25But Max Hassan was 13 goals since 66 games last year. If he plays closer to 84. And he takes the next step. And of course, we're going to use him exclusively as a winger. We think going forward. Can I see more than 19 points? Yeah, I could. Not to mention, perhaps being a better defensive player as well. Well, I'd have been carving a better setup guy, even if his goals only improved from 13 to 15. If he can add 15 assists, then you're at 30 points all of a sudden. And that's a significant improvement for me. Yeah. And then the two veteran goal tenders, Demko on health alone. And when he's played, even coming off long layoffs, he's been pretty good. And Lankin who just had a shockingly bad season, right? Like Kevin Lankin is a better goal tender than what he showed. I know there are some in Connuck's fandom who don't have any faith or confidence in Kevin Lankin. And I can understand that based on what you saw last year, based on the career track record. But he was better the previous year. Was he as good as that? Probably not.

10:26Was he as bad as last year? Probably not. Truth in the middle. Is that fair? Okay. That's the vets. Then there's the unplace. You missed one vet that we're going to talk about a little bit later in the show. Philip Edel. I mentioned. Did you? Okay. Just on concussion. Then there's the young players. We'll start with forwards and work our way back. Liam Ogren talked about him. Ken Robinson yesterday had a huge summer. Best shape of his life. Could see him as a 2020 guy. 20 goals, 20 assists, 40 points. He was 18 points. All of them with the Vancouver Connuckson 69 games last year. First round pick. Tools shed. A lot of room for improvement. Terrific upside on Ogren 18 and 51 with the Connuck 18 69 overall. Yeah. Atu Ratu. Terrible season last year. Step back. End of the previous season was looking like a real

11:27NHL player. Maybe even a third line center. Last year, object failure. Again, I think better than what he showed last year. Jonathan Lackramaki. Part because he's got a shoulder fixed. But that's the best shooter on the Vancouver Connuckson or in the conversation. First round pick. Patigree to score goals. Zeeb William. We've spent a lot of time on William. We don't need to go any further. Tom Volander. Kind of obvious, right? Young player figuring it out. EPD. Another guy took a step back last year. In part, I would suspect because of the foot system. Much preferred what he did two years ago. Victor Mancini, again, he probably falls into the. I'm not sure there's a ton of room there. I mean, in terms of tools, there is, but accessing that and

12:30turning into a front line top four NHL defense minutes. Some had hoped probably not. But can you just be a reliable third pair guy and help the goal prevention side of things? I think that channel's available. I think there's a window there. Is that fair? Yep. And then Nikita Tola Pilo, just young goal tender who lacks for NHL games for the most part. Got some chances last year. And frankly, a couple of points last year where I was like, okay, here we go coming along. Anyways, 23 games under his NHL belt spread over two years. Not sure how much he's going to play because, don't sure how long Demko's going to be out. But he certainly a candidate to improve as well. If you're putting Mancini on the output, kill Kudratsev on that list as well, because I think he's got probably as equal a chance to make the team as Mancini does. That's fair. I kept Kudratsev off just because I don't expect they'll break camp. But can I expect they certainly could. Kudratsev

13:34did last year. And then there's a couple of bets that just need to hold serve. And neither one of them, I would say, had career seasons that couldn't possibly be rival. But Philip Ronic basically was on par with his career season that came in year one with the Kinex 48 points then 49 points last season. Just need him to be what he what what that is. And then a guy like Drew O'Connor who is who is I don't I think you can expect much more than what you do. For me, Connor got to 17 goals. Okay, maybe you get to 20 on that. But if you're if he just holds par, you're you're happy with that. Okay. I'm glad we agree on that because we certainly don't agree. On something you said as we repreping the show, oh, something you put to Rob Williams and we'll have that interview coming up. But the notion that just with the move from Adam foot to many Melhotra that the Kinex are guaranteed

14:43to be better than last year because they're jet to jettison that horrible foot system. And there's no way they can be 58 points 14 in a rears of the next worst club in the national hockey league. I disagree wholeheartedly. You think they could be less than 58 points this year? Here my mouth. Like, like, I think the low end, the bottom side of this team could be shockingly bad. Like as bad as we've seen. Remember that Colorado avalanche team? Yeah. Like a number of your I think the glass half empty view on this team is actually the glass has no liquid in it at all. The glass is empty. Here my mouth. Last year they had Queen Hughes for 26 games. He put up 23 points.

15:48Last year they had key for Sherwood for 44 games in which he put up 17 goals. Like he was on a 30 goal pace. As a connoct last year. It was by no means Connor Garland's PS to resist but Connor Garland is still today a better winger than a number of the wingers the Vancouver Conucks are going to employ. Last year they had Tyler Myers and Marcus Patterson and again both of them struggled last year, but were established national hockey league. The defenseman. And last year they did wind up getting 20 games and mostly good ones out of that. Tredemco. God, I sure hope we get more than 20 games out of that. Tredemco. But who's to tell with this guy at this stage is there a world where it's another season where he is so lightly available that you don't even get 20 mostly good games out of him. I realize you may say to me, yeah, but you got a counterbalance

16:55with everything we just said about 16 guys and improvement from within. Look, we're not going on 16 for 16. No, they do well to go 12 for 16. Oh, that's probably around. It's probably eight, 68, exactly. And in some cases, it's just incremental. So yeah, I do think there's a world like where they're shockingly bad this year worse than last year. Well, we'll eventually make our predictions for the season closer to the season. But I would say just off the cuff right now, by over under for the year would be 70 points that would make that decision tough. Oh, and if we're handicapping, I think that's why I I yeah, 70 might be a smidge high for me, but okay, here and here's why here's my counter to what you just said there with regards to the departure of the veterans, which is a good point. It floated their boat for as much as those veterans added all those totals at the time. Most of that was because they're just that's just their baseline. That's

17:57just how you know, they're established NHL players, but the reason they don't have baseline right right, but how much did they actually degrade the overall play of the team because the atmosphere in that club and the actual jua de v of the of the players that arrived around them to show up for work each and every day. And with those guys gone addition by subtraction and a head coach that will not allow that sort of thing to happen anymore, a simplification of the defensive system. And as we have talked about numerous times in this team before on this show before, the easiest thing to teach is defense. The easiest thing to do is prevent goals. High end skill, which this team does not have a lot of will prevent them from scoring a lot of goals, but you can absolutely coach how to prevent there's the problem like look at the high end skill that went out or just

18:58the skill period because I think people would quibble that Garland and Sherwood and Myers and Patterson are high end skill when he certainly was, but just the skill period that walked out the door. I hear your mouth on vibes and all of that. I think that's a fair shout. Of course, that's an intangible. That's very difficult to quantify. I mean, they'll tell, they'll tell us it's going to matter a ton and been hearing that messaging since the end of last year. But it's one thing to say it like, who were we with recently? Who said it was a Jeff Merrick? You know, if you're good in the room, great. They don't flood the room. We're not skating in the room. They're skating on the ice between the lines where it matters. The answer is in the gray, of course. It's not absolutely one way of the other. That's where we play for keeps. It's not in the room. I don't care how shummy people are. I understand there's a feeling you play for one another and have a group

20:00that gets together. You're going to play harder. I understand all that, but let's not get it twisted. There's another sentence there for a reason the ACL show me you guys good in the room. I'll show you guys bad on the ice. But as we saw with J. T. Miller golfing with the chicklets, chicklets, guys, there was trauma there and it couldn't help but be seen on this. He wasn't here last year. No, no, no, but the atmosphere was left behind. There's no doubt about it. I just think addition by subtraction is a dangerous phrase when you look at who walked out the door and who walked in the door. Remember we are beginning a rebuild here. Typically when you begin a rebuild, you get worse than where you were previously. That's the natural path of things. This is the front end of a rebuild that is not quite tear down because of course we're looking at some of these veterans who are back who refuse to wave trade protection or the connects don't

21:02want to trade just yet because that's the other thing that could happen here Blake is we could see guys like Ronik Patterson, Dobrask go, okay, this is a little much get me out of here and then suddenly they're out the door and income prospects, HLers, draft picks and then you're dressing in an even worse lineup from here. My man. Well, I think that's exactly the goal in fact is to get guys to overreach especially guys that have either expressed a will to leave already like the brusker guys that are limited in terms of their contract length that they do help float the boat make the team somewhat competitive till November or December and then yes trade them and bring in the younger players and this is what we see a lot of times with teams and even Chicago had the Chicago was was palatable until December and then things happened they moved guys on and they are finished near the bottom and I could see that similar kind of arc for the Vancouver connox for this

22:03upcoming season but you know this is a team that has veterans that could contribute more to the bruskin besser like those are baseline goal tolls for both of those players so you know you talked about the veterans that have left but the veterans here could score more to those are two guys that could absolutely be flirting with 30 in any given scenario and they did not flirt with 30 last year like they they did a good push at the end to get to 20 so under achievement there and none of these players are so far past the age of 30 or at the age of 30 at all that you think yeah but that's asking a lot of them know all these guys are still very much in prime eight years of their career they don't have many guys long in the tooth so I mean I just don't think it's possible I remember this team historically you go back and look at last year's season adjusted for era adjusted for the increase and points told that in the NHL is amongst the worst seasons

1:20:18us that he's a 2020 guy if those two things alone happen steam's a lot better than the team of last year again that's the big if the Paul Carter seems to think that they are an underrated team do you give this team any chance to really surprise people I don't think there's enough on the blue line I think there's some interesting pieces up front there of course is the forever peterson question I'm more than anything what we're looking for is a team that's going to hustle and compete and work hard and and that's the to me the standard that you're looking to assess them on and whatever else happens with gravy listen like I it is I think in hindsight now we're going to realize this more and more that I don't put just didn't have chance you know you just had no experience no plan I remember thinking when you first told us that I'm gonna change the wave I want to simply defense I was thinking why he wanted to read like what year is this and it just turned into chaos

1:27:46making it kind of clearer that he wasn't going to be resigning and making it clearer as early as he did the I mean the worst case scenario is like what does it say it's the hope that kills you like like what if we went through that this summer where it was like okay we're going to rebuild but we've got Quinn so how bad are we actually going to be able to be and and sort of have this bit of a a dance all summer the fact they were able to get it done early in a lot of respects I think that obviously it kicked off the rebuild and I think that that's what they they needed obviously we got to make you know the if they botched the trade that's not a win you know they need these these pieces coming back to to be important members of the team and we'll see how they develop now people have this isn't an exact replica but like meekal ranting and when he's traded to Caroline and they flip him again they haven't lost a year on the contract but an acquiring team knows at that

1:28:49point well you've lost leverage because you just acquired this guy so there are teams that have got away with this and still made out okay with a quick flip this is a little bit different because you lose the year and there's a bigger deadline approaching I suppose but is is there any way that you think he plays like how long how many games does he plays a Minnesota Wow here I mean and what kind of value do you get for him if I mean if he's if he's unwilling to sign the resigning Minnesota where he seems like he was reasonably happy if he's unwed if if they're if they're looking to trade them then you know that they've given up hope resigning him what team out there is going to pay even half of what Minnesota paid to to get because everybody knows it's a rental everybody knows exactly yeah and that's the thing he becomes a pure rental right you're paying a pure rental price where Minnesota paid the rental price plus plus hoping that they could they

1:29:54could win him over once he got into the organization yeah they're gonna have some egg on their face I think if if you know if they have to deal them and and and don't get close to the to the value that they they sent Vancouver's way because what do they get like a second round appearance like that's it so yeah pressure pressure is on in Minnesota certainly okay let's play the let's play the other side of the coin because at at different points he did say yesterday I'm sure we're gonna work it out I'm gonna take my time Billy's gonna take his time and I'm sure we're going to work it out so let's say he does choose to resign in Minnesota but it's on a shorter term deal which gives him a little more flexibility to join Jack when Jack Jack's contract expires again let's put ourselves in Kinex shoes here is that a desirable outcome

1:31:00is that something that we would have relished a Kinex a Quinn Hughes shorter term deal or is that just delay the inevitable is that just prolong the worry with Kinex? I mean I think it depends on what situation your franchise is and I think the situation where the Kinex are that what would that have accomplished they're not going to be they're not going to be a winning team in that in that short over time frame to me at that point if he's gonna leave in three years like you might as well trade him now while he's while he's at you know max value whereas Minnesota you can look at that and go okay that's our Stanley Cup window we've got him for a couple more years we've gotten for three years you know let's say you let's say he leaves in three years then hey you gave up all that for four years of the best or second best defenseman in the national oculi that gives you a chance to a legitimate chance to put you over the over the hump and and

1:32:01win us down the cup then I think you can you can hold your head high if you're Bill Garen at that point and say okay we got him for a number of years and and and then that's the outcome my my change of like Jack's got four years left including this year so be a three-year extension for Hughes to fully match Jack I think that works wonderfully for Minnesota the question is you know you know does that work for the Hughes's because at that point they might be too expensive to be all signed in in New Jersey they're not too expensive right now because Jack only makes eight per year for the next four years and as Rob points out it would work out for Minnesota but I'm not sure a three-year deal would have worked out for Vancouver right no no I'm not sure what's gonna happen at the NHL we get surprised every year but you know to see them in a cup window and delivering in three years if that was even available to them I think would have been a very big ask perhaps a bridge too far the main piece in the returns Eve William will be a Vancouver

1:33:05conduct potentially for nine more years Rob we're talking the middle of next decade when this guy hits the open market what did you make of the extension it's a lot of money I mean it's I was looking at I was like he's making more money than the Roberto Lago my contract sucks 12-year deal like that's it's it's more total dollars than that now of course you know inflation and the cap is risen so it's it's not an apple's apples comparison but just sort of like I've just wanted to know how much money this is and if we were if somebody had floated this idea like one year ago even people would be like that is outrageous like you're never you're never making that deal I time will tell if he's worth the money right like I think this is the sample size is incredibly short I wasn't necessarily blown away with was Eve William in in a connox uniform but obviously

1:34:07like the pedigrees there like he's he's you know passed all the tests leading up to the national oculate and you know it's an accomplishment in itself to to be playing in the NHL especially as a defenseman as a teenager I like this in principle in terms of this management group because I view this as another sign that they're taking the assignment seriously they're not just trying to squeak into the playoffs they're trying to make they're trying to win a Stanley Cup they're trying to build this thing properly we'll see if they make the right moves right like I think everyone's everyone's cheering the cities and Ryan Johnson on like you know those are the three popular people in the city but what I view is this is another move just like the the Marcus Patterson trade where you're trading this for like four years down the line that's not the move of a desperate general manager that's a move of a general manager that's taking like a decade long approach

1:35:13so I like it because if you're right on Zeef Booyam if he turns out to be the player that everyone helps he'll be you're gonna this is gonna look like a sweetheart contract in the second half of that deal and that's where the connoxer you know ideally going to be pushing being a playoff team and pushing to become a contender so having a having a deal like that on the books like that could be the difference between you win a Stanley Cup and and you don't win a Stanley Cup these Rob good these young players that they've got Booyam included and Booyam at the top of the list generally there's one season where they just figure it all out and it's generally in concert with physical maturation as well like what are the chances that one of Booyam, Volander, Ugren like pops figures it out this year as a Vancouver connoct you think that's likely not possibly it's funny always thinking about just like what I like like are the connox

1:36:19gonna surprise as they're like what's gonna happen with this team this year and and all of the things I kind of come to I'm sort of second guessing because it feels a lot like what I said last year and last year I was saying okay there's no way Patterson could be worse it was worse there's Demko's finally healthy well he wasn't so healthy there was all of these things where I thought okay this they've got this out of the way now they'll they'll be able to do it and one of the things I said was like one or two of their young guys is going to be much better than expected now like you know as lean as this lean as Carlson count as a young guy anymore I don't not sure but there we didn't really get that we didn't get the Jonathan LeCaramacchi coming in and and solidifying sad him to the list for 20 goals right yeah so we didn't get that so I'm sort of like in the back of my mind I'm like okay you know fool me once like she's on you am I prepared to be fooled again here but no I

1:37:20do think that like there's enough things that have that have changed with this team and I think that someone you know someone's likely to to develop out of those out of those young guys and and produce at a higher rate than maybe we're expecting here you know is it I don't know which one it's going to be like is it going to be breaking goods it's going to be Tom Hollander's going to be Zuboom I don't know but more importantly here more importantly here Rob you know if you want to buy into yeah they will be better than we think there isn't any guy that is at risk of going the opposite way because the the mirror image of what you're talking about is a guy that had a really good year last year that I don't think he can back that up with another version of that here there is nobody in that list like there's nobody there's nobody that overachieved last year to the point where you're like there's no chance he can get to that that was a one off like everybody was either their average or below average so that really I don't know that you can be that pessimistic about this team

1:38:23vis-a-vis last year at least I depends what qualifies this as a as a surprise for people but I think the improvement is a guarantee at this point yeah I mean I don't think anyone's saying that they're going to be a playoff team no or even even on the cusp of the playoffs but could they have a two months run where they're better than than people thought like you know I think they could be a a pretend playoff team for a couple months you know those Willie Desjardin teams with Jason Magna and and Shippupu those guys like you know I remember some seasons where those where those teams got off to like hot starts and stuff so like yeah it's it's certainly possible obviously the the new coach bump you know having just competent coaching like how does that change things yeah I mean I weigh all of those things with looking at their roster and that roster does

1:39:27does not look very good right now and and you know we're gonna see right like again the leas petterson question a lot of things come back to him I think I'd be more confident in in this sort of a take if if I truly believed that petterson was was gonna was gonna bounce back and if that your Demko is healthy and that's the other thing too is it Demko you know is he gonna be ready to start the season if not how long to take for him to get in there they're gonna need good goal tenting like that's a that's one of those equalizers that if you had a healthy that your Demko I think you could you know bank on some improvements just from there but yeah like failing a really big step forward from many of their young defensemen I mean that defense is a whole lot weaker than it was last season at least on paper on resume yeah yeah and Blake and I discuss this in the opening segment had a good to and fro on it so I'm not gonna extend that any

1:40:29further and rope you into our disagreements Rob try not to fight in front of the kids the follow up I wanted to ask you on William because you did such a marvelous job of reading conducts fans and the temperature out there I said this earlier in the week and I understand why it's happening because it's not only wishful thinking it's it's like it has to happen thinking but I sense that there are way too many people downplaying the risk and the downside to the William extension in two forms number one if he just kind of becomes an empty calorie point producing offensive defenseman that you really have to shelter and isn't a true first pair or even a a a solid second pair and then secondly if the offense just doesn't come at all you know that's the nightmare scenario I don't see a whole lot of that talk amongst Kenox fans in fact I see

1:41:34more comparisons to Lane Hudson who as we talked about earlier in the week was 40 points better in his rookie year 66 points coming off a rookie deal when he got the big extension from the Habs are are we sort of intentionally blind here to what could be the downside and the risk of the William contract is that getting enough run as you see it with the fans no I think those are all fair points I think that people want to believe that Zeeb William is is going to become the player that that that everyone hopes he's going to become there's certainly risk I think the something to give more peace of mind is the fact that you can buy him out at one third given he's under 26 like buying out at one third of the salary rather than two thirds of the salary is going to go in to help and I think probably the other reason why everything is sort of being where this not really

1:42:35being scrutinized as heavily is that in the first few years of that deal salary cap space not going to matter a ton for this organization and then I think this it's just like nobody knows what the salary cap is going to look like in eight nine years right so like what is is a nine million dollar defenseman is that going to be like is that like a four million dollar defenseman now is that like a three million dollar defenseman right now so like projecting out the salary cap I think is is another part of it where you're like okay well wait what like it's hard to do the math on it because we know the the dollar figure but we don't know what that's really going to mean in the future you know other than covid you know we've seen the salary cap rise steadily you know since it was implemented 20 years ago so I think that that's something that we've seen time and time again is that when you sign a player to a mega long contract by the end of that deal that dollar figure

1:48:01so care some price from the historic wall center our next guest came to us 21 years ago Blake from a free agent camp in Portland Oregon he was an eastern Washington eagle a franklin high quaker he gets on the practice field with the british Columbia lions and who knew then the contribution he would make to this football club and football in this city 12 seasons for Ryan Phillips 230 games as a lion two great cups four all star six club records and he continues to serve as the club's defensive back coach the Saturday he's inducted to the teams wall of fame with his ex teammate Travis Luley and he joins us from the lion's facility I don't know how many times we've had our pee on the show over the years but I know it's a lot congratulations my man we're very happy for you man I greatly appreciate it man has been a long time for sure it's always good to see familiar faces you know it's full circle moments that's happening right now so it's been

1:49:05definitely a good week you know it's just definitely a fun and exciting for myself but also really more so for my family it's funny you bring up his high school I remember when you were making your debut or like you you would made your appearances on I remember my producer at the time saying to me this guy got some local ties yeah I remember the conversations about you coming in the unknown all of that how unknown was it all to you like you you know we existed up here in terms of the DC lions and all that man yeah I knew that the CFL existed because my uncle played up here for a couple years but even outside of that is just more so being up here and actually getting to a game you know you didn't have the opportunity from that aspect and you know it was kind of like a foreign land you know just being honest for someone like myself so you know to come up here and have this opportunity and you know see the style of football and you know see the city and the fan base and things like that was definitely a blessing in Evergaard and you know obviously the opportunity was you know something that's changed my life forever you know the people that I've

1:50:07met and the teammates and obviously the coaching staff and you know the fans and even the long-term relationships that I built is second to none so no I didn't know it ahead of time but it's been you know one of the best moves I've ever made if not the and you know with that being said it's definitely been a over 20 year history at this point yeah and Ryan's uncle Terry Metcalfe was a hell of a player for ever so for St. Louis and Washington and the NFL and for the Argos up here okay wall of fame what does it mean to you to get the clubs highest honor man it's tremendous you know you don't ever know when something like this is going to happen and despite the fact that you know you feel like statistically you might be up there with the best you know I've always looked at that honor as you know the best guys in the league you know not just even for our organization you know what I think about the guys that I came in with you know those guys are at a you know very high regard you know a lot of guys are Hall of Famers you know so if you talk about the G Roy Simons and the Brent Johnson's and the Dave Dickinson's and all those guys those guys are at the top of the top and those guys were my teammates and those were guys that I you know took

1:51:09stuff from whether it was on the field and off the field so to be in the same category as those guys is tremendous for me you know it's definitely a token to those guys taking me underneath their wing but also a credit obviously to you know one David Braley but even going to Wally Bono first and foremost and everybody else from that aspect that's you know been a pivotal part of my career but also the sacrifices for my family you know they've done things to support me my mom has been you know when we do the long haul still coming to games now don't miss too many from that aspect and you know she being forever so she knows everybody in the building every security guard everything so you know she don't even show a pass anymore that's how bad it is so it's just you know her and my kids they just walk through and you know they know everybody by first name it's just it's a different ordeal now so it's just you know it speaks volumes though but it also shows you know the just the reception that I've had ever since I've gotten here and it's you know been tremendous so for me to get this honor you know while she can honestly be able to be a part of it that was the biggest thing for me you know I didn't know when it was going to happen but I want her to enjoy it because this moment honestly is really more so about her and my kids and my family and the support system

1:59:31just because someone's been in the league for a long time doesn't mean that you know all the strength and weaknesses and how they function and I tell everybody that's a hard part to figure out from that point so you know you start the season not having Gary Peters you know from that point you get a new veteran linebacker and Sanky from that point you bring in a guy like Casey sales and things like that so you try to make transactions that's gonna better the club but just to try to figure out how those pieces work you know we got us new starting a will linebacker and Parker from that aspect to another another young rookie so you know you're trying to find ways to jail and then also figure things out on the run as far as it goes so after we got a better idea what that dynamic look like and how we could play to our strengths that's that's what you kind of see in the turnaround and the turnaround started to shape you know from that point and guys started play with the ultimate confidence that they can make these plays and sometimes you got to do things by design but sometimes you got to do things just by acting you know actually make it plays and gaining confidence and I think they kind of went hand in hand you know as far as it went so we're starting to still figure it out you know I think we're still you know still got a ceiling that we haven't touched yet you know just does some plays that we can make there's some things that we can do by

2:00:35skiing but there are also things that we can do by just you know we're out there making a plan you know what ultimate confidence so we want to hit you know our potential at the right time and if we start doing it now I don't know if that's it right now I'll rather wait a week or two so that way now we're hitting it on all cylinders it's still third of the season left so a lot to be decided here and you probably will disagree but I think that much we all loss yeah actually helps you guys because things were going so swimmingly it's a punch in the mouth from a I from the other division which for at least one more year doesn't matter as much and you guys get reminded lots there's work to do right can you can you now you know a few days after it you know accept that and say okay that was a good lesson to be taught here yeah I mean you got to accept the wins and the losses right there's always something that you can grow from you know you hate to lose you know no matter what don't get me right rather keep the streak going but at the same extent you know sometimes you do got to get you know more of a reset and a refresh and at the end of the day you know that's part of the cycle of 18 game season like you're gonna go through some up and down
