I had a great cold open for you, but unfortunately, the sharks have turned it over to the blues.

Podcast Network, your team every day.
Welcome to Lockdown Sharks, the premier hockey podcast covering your favorite team, Bay
Area.
My name is JD Young.

Also, the caretaker over at the reef, I want to thank you for making the Lockdown Sharks
your first lesson, probably part of the Lockdown Network, the number one sports podcast
network.
We cover your team every day, and if you want to be in every day or all you do, it's
just follow along wherever you get podcasts, and of course, you can watch on YouTube as
well.
And we're going to talk about this very unserious hockey game as these sharks committed every
possible turnover imaginable.
They lose three to two in overtime to the blues, despite holding the blues to two shots
on goal in the third period in overtime combined.
So we'll talk about just how you cannot take grants, these types of performances for
granted.
We'll talk about Sherwood and Misa who both had, I think, positive nights tonight, and
we'll dig into the numbers of this game and the mind-boggling performance that the sharks
put together.
So let's get started.
Just a, again, unserious before, unserious, just immature, might be the way, and we've
had this talk at least once before after a game where the sharks just kind of thought they
could roll out of bed, show up to the rink, and get a win.
Blues team who just traded their captain, literally iced five defensemen tonight because
they couldn't, they didn't have enough defensemen to play in this game, right?
You just trade your captain, you traded two of your best defensemen away.
Because the Blues team clearly have any horrible season, right, sharks, roll out of bed,
take care of business, good times, no.
This team is not the Colorado avalanche, avalanche, easily can roll out of bed, take down a
lot of teams in the NHL, right, stars, same type of thing, this wild team, like plenty
of teams in the NHL like that.
The sharks team is not that, and you saw it tonight.
And despite, and when we especially get to the numbers, like the sharks did a lot of really
good stuff and did a very, they were, you know, a lot of positives to take away at least
when you look at the numbers, but you cannot play the style of hockey that they played
tonight and expect to win, right?
Just the constant, the puck management and turning it over and just give, like, that was
how the Blues scored their goals for the most part, right?
First goal, was there a penalty, it should have been a penalty for that Barclay Goodger
Drew, 100%, but you lose a puck battle in your defensive zone.
Right?
Great play.
Do you wish maybe Nidokvich save it?
Yeah.
Do you wish it also probably didn't bounce off day or nays?
Yeah.
Like that's, I'm not really kind of blaming, like Nidokvich tonight, like that do not put
any play on Nidokvich tonight, like Nidokvich played outstanding and like the numbers are
going to be bad for Nidokvich because of the volume, don't like, there do not put any
evil on that on me there, Ricky Bobby when it comes to Nidokvich, but second one,
just a, like, John Clingberg, I'm just getting out of the way right now, oh, Clingberg, oh,
Clingberg, Clingberg almost cost one up, just an absolute, just pizza to two Blues players
in the high slot, just here you go, sir, if it wasn't a different Nidokvich is playing
now standing there, right?
Now the second goal, Robert Thomas, pretty good player, like, Clingberg losing a battle
there, go and it ends up to Robert Thomas, do you want Celebrity to have a little stick
your coverage on Robert Thomas, or yeah, do you also want the sharks to not just give
away the puck there, and yeah, and then in overtime, just poor puck management, again,
Dickinson Celebrity, both of them tonight, just poor puck management, Will Smith tonight,
just horrendous play, got benched in the first period, didn't play the last seven minutes,
seven plus minutes of this game because of his play, I mean, the lines were an absolute
mess tonight because of the sharks trying to cobble, Brian Worcowski trying to cobble
players together who are actually kind of putting in efforts tonight.
This team is as great of a story as it is, this team is just not talented enough to overcome
them shooting themselves in the foot, and that's what happened, that's usually why the
sharks lose is because they do it to themselves, and they're just not good enough to overcome
the mistakes that they make, right?
Tonight was a perfect example of that, of them just, hey, let's just, let's just try
to go do, you know, do all the cool stuff, and again, all the cool stuff's fun, but when
it doesn't work, you have things like tonight where you give up three goals, despite the
blues having 14 shots on the go, and again, Ned, Nedelkovich was actually like outstanding
tonight, it made some massive saves, like do not put any blame on Nedelkovich tonight,
but this was just this sharks team, maybe getting a little too high on their own supply,
whatever it is, I like the smell of their own farts analogy, like just feeling too
good about themselves, and you know what, I think this might be good for them, just that
kind of like knock you back down, and especially against a bad, like this is a bad blues
team, like don't get me wrong, like this is a bad blues team who got 14 shots on goal,
and was missing a ton of players, and the sharks lost to a bad team tonight, it happens,
it 100% happens, like Jordan Bennington was great tonight, but this is also the sharks
just handing the blues a lot of gold opportunities, and they took advantage of those opportunities,
and the sharks not being able to capitalize or not be able to string two passes together,
so hopefully the hope is that this is a good learning point for the sharks going forward,
when you do play some of these teams below you, right, we've seen this against the flames,
especially these bigger heavier teams, right, we saw every, like the sharks in the
flames have been a bad match up for the sharks, because they do the same thing, right,
of that we're just going to kind of play heavy or hockey, we're going to make you, you know,
force you into making mistakes, and then we think our goal ten is better, and we think
we can take advantage of our opportunities, and that was the blues plan tonight, right,
when you play the preads, it's coming up, it's going to be the same thing, it's a bigger,
a little bit more talented at the top end with some of their players, but the sharks cannot
take these types of games for granted, like just walking, they get you can just roll up to the
rink and that you can win, like this, again, this team is just not talented enough, so I hope
this is a nice wake up call for them going forward that you cannot just show up and think you
can win this game as it looked like that they were trying to do from puck drop, so yeah, poor
performance, unserious hockey, basically up and down the line up with, there is a few exceptions,
so we'll second segment, we'll talk about some of those guys who I thought did play well tonight,
but it starts up top, right, Celebrity was, I know Celebrity was sickle from Celebrity,
Celebrity was horrible tonight, just not what you see from him, and the good thing is every time
we see a bad celebrity game, he usually turns it around and does something awesome the next game,
so I expect Celebrity to come out tomorrow against the Isles and try to make amends. The same
thing we will smith, right, is every time we see bad games from these players, they usually respond
in a really positive way that doesn't kind of snowball, and I think that is a good sign,
especially from your young stars, that they do tend to respond in a positive way, but
when you have your two best players in Celebrity and Smith, how the performance is that they had
tonight, you're not going to win a lot of games, and tonight was a perfect example of that, so
we are going to talk about some of the bright spots, including Sherwood, who continues to show why
my career brought him here, and then gave him a fat check, and then we'll talk, of course,
our, we are kind of every game, Michael Misa Glaze, as Michael Misa continues to just be really
awesome, and it should be playing more minutes, because yeah, Michael Misa is really awesome,
so we'll get to that here in just one second.

in the show notes. So again, not all negative tonight, as we did have some good performances,
and I got to start with one key for Sherwood who's continued is showing why Mike Greer.
Why he brought him to San Jose. Sherwood who, you know, signed a big contract, got his
furt was a huge part of the sharks gate win against Montreal. Scores the game tying goal for tonight.
Great, that's too great curse of fees to Sherwood. So some chemistry building up there between
those two guys and that pairing that kind of makes a lot of sense with what you kind of think about
right, which what we've seen from Kerr chef's game, what we've seen so far in Sherwood's game,
that pairing feels like it's got some got some some legs to that there, but Sherwood was all over
the ice tonight making big time plays, right? I think he ended up with like eight hits tonight,
which and you you saw again, hits are a weird stat, right? Because you can be without the puck
and playing chase and trying to kind of catch up or you can have those hits that's kind of
create your offense and you saw more of the create your offense type of hits at tonight,
especially in the that led to some extended offensive zone times, especially in the second period
there from Sherwood. So continuing to show again, I'm not going to turn this into like a whole
did they make the right choice to like where Sherwood's on this team, we're going to you know go with
you know kind of evaluate him as we would every other player, but Sherwood was really good tonight
and continues to be really good so far with the sharks and I think it's been finding that perfect
role with him. I think again, as when you first showed up, it felt like they were kind of shoving a
you know square peg into a round hole now that I think he's playing in a you know kind of a better
position, better minutes, not better minutes, but just kind of more natural to his role for his
minutes. And you're seeing Kershiv I think start to kind of come out and see what makes him
why he can be a difference maker in the middle six for the sharks, right? Instead of shoving him
in the top line where it just didn't seem to fit. So it's good like it's good that the sharks realized
and Ryan Wersowski realized like maybe he's not the right fit on the top line here
with San Jose. So let's put him where I we think it's you know going to be a little bit more
natural. And I think you're seeing positive response from from Kershiv tonight's or from that
Kershiv from Sherwood tonight. So let's hope they can keep it going. I don't know if he's in
continue to score goal every game here, but he's every goalie scored for the sharks have been
big time moments for them. So maybe he's just got that clutch knack to come in and score those
big time big time goals. So and that was again great feed from Kershiv behind the net.
Nice play by by graph. What a weird line of a graph Kershiv. Sure with line there, but
great play by by by those three to kind of get on the fort rate. That's that's the style of hockey
sharks after play is that get on the forecheck and try to create stuff there. And you saw the
positive response. They scored the game time goal. And again, Bennington was pretty good tonight.
And just like that's how you have to kind of win those that type of game. So
Michael Misa continuing to do awesome Michael Misa things. Let's pull up the old Michael Misa
ice time counter. And he ends up with 15 18. Okay. Again, I think right now any game over 15
minutes feels like a win for us for Michael Misa in that line. If right, you you saw a lot of
lines got shuffled around. I know there was a couple fights early on and screwed up the lines as
well. That line stayed together. The Misa to fully Eclan line stayed together. And they weren't
perfect to fully just an absolute pass to nobody at one point. But they I think were the most
consistent line for the sharks tonight and want probably their best line. Despite not scoring,
I think this was the shark's best line tonight. And Misa continuing to play that just straight
forward hockey, right? How often is it as soon as the sharks get something going in the office of
zone, he is right in front of the net. Almost had a goal tonight that would have made it four goals
and four games for him. But right in front of the net, it was I think Dickinson from a point from
the blast. And Misa almost gets the rebound there. I think it was Broberg who came flying in and
kind of tipped it away at the last second. But like you saw just it felt like any time the
sharks were getting pot like anything dangerous, such as positive stuff, like dangerous stuff,
it was because of the Misa line. And right, there's still going to have his rookie mistakes as
you would expect. But the this line though tonight, 928, 9 of seven, nine shots, M4, 7 allowed,
seven to three actual shots, 0.36 to 0.1, one expected four, expected goals, four scoring chances
allowed four, then had two high danger chances. Like this as this line continues to go. And again,
we talked about a million times again, when that line and the Wendberg line flips, I think that's
when the sharks really start to take off. But this line, you know, I thought was the only line that
for a good chunk of this game that was doing wasn't just kind of skating around and just getting
the cardio in like that this was the line that kind of came to work tonight and they weren't,
they still some again to fully kind of with a couple of weird passes here and there. And
but this was the line where it kind of felt like, okay, we can at least try to do something positive
and insustainable here instead of just kind of this throw it all around the rink type of hockey
that clearly didn't work for the sharks tonight. So yeah, that that line was continues to be very good
and would not change a thing on that line. So 100% of Ryan Warsaw's he's going to change a
thing on that line. But we'll see. So let's stick into the numbers of this game here. We'll talk
about how these sharks got got crushed in the second period had an absolutely outstanding third
period, but still ended up losing this game. So we'll get to that in just one second.

So a very tight community we talk about the sharks a lot of them I know there's like a bunch of
like seasoned ticket holders so like they kind of know each other as well. Just a great place to
to come hang out and then talk sharks and just hockey in general. So um numbers been this game.
Sharks like again if you if you told me San Jose held the blues to 14 shots on goal you had 25
shots on goal yourself the blues had one shot in the third period and one shot in over time
even like first period three shots on goal second period nine shots on goal from the blues
and then one in the third and one so the first third and over time they had five shots on goal
five shots on goal and 41 basically 41 minutes of hockey and you lost this game three to two oh my
god ridiculous unserious hockey both power plays went over to in this game the sharks fair amount
like even penalty minutes couple fights in this game good for furrow sticking up for his dude
there but yeah just like ridiculous hockey just a ridiculous hockey game five on five so we had 52
about 53 minutes of five on five shot attempts in this were 45 to 28 in favor of the sharks 61.64 to
38.36 percent in favor of San Jose actual shots on goal at five on five 24 to 13
scoring chances 20 to 18 10 to seven high danger chances all in favor of the sharks 2.59 to
1.88 the expected goals for all in favor of the sharks so but think about that blues had 28
shot attempts 18 or in 13 of them got on that at 515 that 18 scoring chances so they had 20 like
shot attempts but they had 18 scoring chances just shows like how they were just taking advantage
of the dangers opportunities that they got tonight like and again that's a lot of just them
like the sharks just giving the puck away to the blues so second period so 14 to 16 shot attempts
in favor of San Jose there but again the shots for nine to six in favor of the blues 11 to six so
the blues at 18 scoring chances 11 of them came in the second period they had seven high
danger chances six of them came in the second period 1.55 to 0.44 expected goals by the blues again
they had 1.88 in the second like just a brutal second period by the sharks where you were and
that again just a lot of that lead of that just awful turnovers just feeding the blues offense
there and like what's he really likes the same pressure it was just a bunch of turnovers so
as for the sharks lines pretty funky tonight again which talked about the meets the line
with soccer god debt good draw was the next most utilized line at seven 10 six shot attempts
for eight allowed actual shots of three to four gave up a goal had uh yeah I gave up a goal
0.72 to 0.78 expected goals four four to six scoring chances four to three high danger chances so
again the goal like probably a good draw penalty like good draw probably drew a penalty there
probably also don't leave Jake neighbors by himself there in that situation well I mean
Dana has had pretty solid covers there is just kind of a little bit of a lucky thing but
they had some chances in this game and uh couldn't like a subtractor cut a couple nice drives
they had a couple chances this game but couldn't uh take advantage so celebrity Smith graph played
642 three to five shot attempts one to two actual shots gave up a goal 0.15 to 0.33
expected goals four two to five scoring chances zero to one high danger chances from that line
that's just not good like that's just not a good performance from your top line again especially
against a depleted uh very depleted blues team so like I do wonder
you do wonder if I know like the kuda they're over in mill walkie right now you wonder if they
if Cherishov gets called up here like just thinking out loud if Cherishov gets called up here
to play with that line because like they've been trying to find that third winger and
then at some point yeah anyway um and then the key for sure would winberg curse of they played
639 to four shot attempts uh five to three actual shots point was seven to 0.54 expected goals
four uh four to two scoring chances zero to two high danger chances from that line
and then uh celebrity Smith winberg so winberg in the middle with those two guys
549 in the third period five to nothing shot attempts three to nothing actual shots had a goal
and then that was at the very very very end of the power play there so it was actually even
straight there uh within uh 0.42 to zero expected goals four so that's not like a sustainable line
you can't have winberg like and celebrate it together for a sustainable time because you need
real centers down the middle so um and then defensively like the numbers are going to be a little
bit because again the structures out shot the like the blues so bad in this game so it's going to
look really like the defensive pairs are going to like orlock clingberg was um at 70%
coursey for Dickinson Teranese it was a 62% mcubodil and Ferraro is at 56% um Dickinson had a horrific
night wouldn't if Nolan Allen gets back in time because again i think that's Max Miller has no
announce uh getting called up wouldn't be surprised if Dickinson sits a game after his performance
tonight uh but we'll see and then yeah clingberg was we talked about earlier was an absolute mess
mcubodil and i thought was pretty solid tonight for ours when it was was for the most part
for our ask so and then poor nidokovic who again like the numbers are bad because he
he faced 14 shots tonight um 12 saves three goals allowed
spectacles against 202 um five of five high danger 47 mid-danger and two of two low dangers so um
you know again don't put that evil on nidokovic he was i thought he was good tonight so
just a poor performance and especially when you look at how the rest of of the kind of pacific
went tonight right i know and a high one and over in a shootout but um like the
oilors lost six to three tonight like Vegas also lost that you're going to catch Vegas
you had an opportunity to kind of close the gap a little bit here tonight and yes i know they
got a point you know you every point matters at this point of the season it's the only two games
you had in the crackin but you could like this was one of those games where you're really
circling as like you got to you got to win this game and the styles team you're playing tomorrow
they just got Shen um still like the styles team might be running out of gas but like
the aisles game now is a must win especially as you're about ready to head on the road to the east coast
here this is a must win game for you for for San Jose like you you cannot mess around and the
aisles are in the same position where they're trying to hold on to a playoff spot here and they
are in a must win especially as they've lost two in a row so um we'll be back for that this game
so the big time game on Saturday at the tank at least like you can't ask for anything more
being playing meaningful hockey at least so we'll be back have a preview for you
tomorrow so it's actually a far along wherever you get podcasts and of course you can watch on
YouTube as well follow show on twitter facebook instagram and on tiktok at lock on sharks follow me
