The two of you and this movie, My God,
there are so many scenes in this movie that I want to jump into,
but I don't want to spoil it.
You had to have known that you were creating scenes like that.
Yeah, no.
It was a really powerful script.
And our friends who we asked to be in it, when they read it,
they were like, I want to do this, I'm in, I'm in.
Not one person was like, everyone made it work.
And so, yeah, it's a pretty powerful movie.
I got to tell you something, Audrey,
is you know how to keep a movie together,
because when the scenes are put on you
and all of a sudden you're the one that's in the spotlight,
you handle that quite well.
You dominate that screen.
Thank you so much.
It was my first time, so I was just kind of rolling with it, to be honest.
But it ended up really working out,
and I really, really fell in love with film through this experience.
And there's so many different invisible scenes
in the way that serve such a powerful message.
Like one of them being, and hopefully I won't sound prudent,
but I love it that when everybody came out of that meeting
after having something to drink,
they got into an Uber, or they got into another driver.
I love the fact that you did not let them drive.
Yeah, we're responsible.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Everybody wore their seat belt as well.
And man, how tough was that scene?
When the two of you were talking on the phone for the first time in a while,
and mom is standing right there because Audrey, you're on her phone.
I am.
And she's like trying to listen to it.
And I'm like, get off.
That was a really difficult scene to shoot because it was in split screen.
So they shot their part of the scene first.
And then the next day I shot the second part of the scene where I had a hearing aid in.
And so I could hear the scene and had to match it up, match it up.
But you know what though, that split screen works in this movie
because there are so many things that you guys did that were exactly the same,
but in two different moments.
And I love that because it just, to me, that brought togetherness in your own family
that you may be different, but chances are you're probably not.
You're probably doing the same thing.
Absolutely.
Yeah, their relationship is strange at the beginning,
but we kind of, we don't tell you we show you that these two people are very similar
and they're, and they're going to find their way back to each other.
Yeah, there's hope for sure.
Do you think one day we'll finally understand why we call somebody Dulf?
Because right when you guys really introduced the character, I laughed out loud.
And then, and then it develops in the story and you're going,
oh my god, this is so incredible.
Oh my god.
Dulf came obviously from Rick and I as we were writing.
And we kept using kind of, you know, Rocky as kind of a,
in a weird way.
And you know, we watched Rocky again.
We're like, you know what?
It's crazy.
This whole movie is kind of boring.
There's really not a lot of boxing.
It's really kind of just people talking.
And then we just came up with the idea that, you know, Dulf Lungren,
who's in Rocky for, that's who they would, these young women were so hip
that they called her Dulf.
Yeah.
Please do not move.
There's more with Steve and Audrey Sahn coming up next.

The name of the movie is She dances.
We are back with Steve and Audrey Zahn.
Now, Audrey, if you ever had one of those moments
like you did in Inside the Movie,
when it came to expressing how he is a lover of musicals.
When dads say something you least expect,
and you're going,
well, that just changed the playing field.
I have a new love for you, sir.
Oh, dude.
But dad, I always knew dad was a musicals.
My parents met on the national tour of Vi by Birdie
with Tommy Tune and Anne Ranking,
which is entertain.
So I always knew this guy was a showtune guy.
Plus, my dad and I, when we were in the car growing up,
because I was doing professional musical theater
for a hot sec,
we would sit in the car and sing, like,
Officer Kruppki from what's up for you and stuff like that.
So that part wasn't a surprise at all.
One of the things that I'm waiting for now is that phone call
from ABC,
where the two of you are going to be on dancing with the stars.
I mean, you have opened up that, that gate right now.
I don't know.
That would be crazy sauce.
You would be good at it though, to be honest.
Yeah, because there's such a variety of emotions inside this movie.
And the balance of it,
what was that like, Steve,
to be able to create the balance of the movie
and take us all the way to that unbelievable ending?
Yeah, I mean, I think it was about,
it's simplifying it as much as possible,
so that it really sneaks up on you.
And we kind of tell you what's,
we kind of tell you how it's going to end in a weird way.
And yet, it's so surprising.
And I think part of that is by,
you know, how we constructed it,
and how Rick directed it,
now Kobe toll and edited it.
But it's also just,
there's a little bit of magic and luck in there as well, you know?
Well, there's magic in the fact that when you get the flat tire
and you suggest that she changes the tire,
that was such my dad moment.
I mean, I was pulled into that scene in a heart
because that's exactly what my dad would have done.
Yeah, totally.
You gotta do it yourself.
It's such a funny scene.
I love it.
So then with all of this fun stuff that's going on on the set,
what didn't we get to see?
Because I mean, there's a lot of things that that camera catches,
that's all funny and it's breaking down,
it's showing the realism.
But you guys are so real in this storyline.
I don't know.
There's like,
we didn't have time.
We didn't have time.
Yeah, we didn't.
What you see,
I mean, we shot this in 20 days,
which is insane.
Yeah.
And so we didn't have a lot of things.
Yeah, I'm talking about that.
I'm talking about it.
We did like two takes and like moving on.
Oh, good.
I would say,
I love that kind of stuff
because that to me is what it's like to be on a live stage.
When you're doing theater,
is that you don't get a chance to do seven or eight different cuts.
It's show time and bring it on.
That's it.
That's very true.
I'm always like,
when I shoot a movie,
after two takes,
they're like,
okay, one more.
I'm like, oh, come on.
Really?
Yeah, he hates it.
I just like two takes.
That's it.
Well, the best line
and it should be in part of your merchandise
that you're going to do for the movie.
And that is to call AAA
or not to call AAA.
Oh, my God.
How many people have been in that situation
where it's like,
and then people don't know it,
or they do know it,
and say,
do we have that kind of time?
It was such a real person moment.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, I'm very,
very dad and daughter argument
for that play.
That's one of my favorite scenes.
It's so you killed it.
That's a great scene.
And I love it.
I love McKenzie and that scene too.
Yeah, definitely a lot of classic scenes all the way through it
because I'll sit there.
I'm the noisy one in the theater.
I'll sit there and go classic.
Classic.
Get that one.
That picture forever.
That's great.
Well, where can people go
to find out more about you, Audrey?
Because I want them to understand that this was your first step.
But boy, you are on your way for some good stuff.
Well, yeah, I'm figuring it out.
I have an Apple show out right now called Imperfect Women.
I think there was a new episode yesterday.
It's still coming out.
So that's super exciting.
And then we'll see where it goes from there.
And Steve, you're just as busy, aren't you?
Yeah, I've just finished the silo season four.
I'm finished season two of Chad Powers,
the football show in Oulu.
Nice.
And yeah, I had Anaconda this year.
And, you know, busy.
Well, that's what it's all about.
It's all about the fun and reaching people.
Yeah, for sure.
Well, please come back to this show anytime in the future.
The door is always going to be open for you.
I love it.
Thank you so much.
I'll do.
Be brilliant.
Thank you.
Thank you too.
Yeah, you too.
All right.
Thanks, man.
