A lot of Sun Belt baseball today, as Troy basketball will take a back seat for a few days,

and not to start in perpetuate rumors, but we may have the coach of the aforementioned

Troy Trojans on Lockdown Sun Belt, so stay tuned for that possibility.

All right, so, coastal Carolina does beat Wake Forest, Southern Meats, Southern Miss,

Outlasts, Ole Miss in a classic pitcher's duel, guys throw a 95 all over the place.

And think Alabama takes down Troy, and Texas State was battling Texas, but Texas is

really good.

But of course, the biggest win of the night was Georgia Southern.

And maybe they are taking a page out there inspired by their basketball brother, right?

Georgia Southern basketball, as we mentioned, was not playing well outside of their last

win, heading into the Sun Belt Conference tournament.

They get on a roll, five games in five days, and end up losing to Troy in the Champions

Gaming.

You know what, I don't mind agreeing with Thomas Dowd on a side note.

A lot of people were rooting for Georgia Southern, all right?

I'd still pick Troy to win, but obviously the bigger story would have been if Georgia

Southern won.

He's not wrong, he's not wrong, because people want to see that kind of story.

But nonetheless, the Georgia Southern baseball team just had gotten off to a god-awful start,

I mean, period end of a story.

They started out the year, oh, and eight.

They went to West Virginia, got swept, lost to Georgia Tech, 25 to one, went to South

Florida, got swept.

They lost to Kennesaw State at home.

They're oh and eight.

They did take two out of three from USC Upstate, but they've lost to the Citadel right after

that seven to one, and they lose to Tennessee Tech before taking the last two ball games and

actually win the series against Tennessee Tech.

And then out of nowhere at Clemson for good measure, they put up a six spot in the second

inning and hold on to win the game.

Now Clemson threatened and just couldn't get anything across.

Let's see here, they had, well, they only had six base hits, but they seem to have a lot

of base runners.

They didn't have, they had six base hits and only a couple of walks, but every time I

looked, they seemed to be people on base for Clemson, maybe not.

Georgia Southern actually left 12 men on base.

Clemson only left eight, but it felt like it was a handful, a handful during the last

parts of the game.

Let's see here.

The seventh inning, you did have two on and one out, and Clemson doesn't score.

That's the seventh, all right.

In the eighth, you do get a two out single and a walk, but a ground out.

So that's two more left on in the eighth inning.

They may have gone quietly in the ninth, they got to hit by pitch in the ninth.

So they did have five base runners on in the last three innings and couldn't put a

cross, push across, any runs.

And again, these midweek ball games, they don't mean anything to Clemson, they don't

mean anything to the SEC.

They mean everything to the sundowns, although the sunbelt does have eight teams with less

than a hundred RPI and they have two in the top 20.

So before we go crazy, there are some teams and you have some other teams that don't

have the best records, but have some good analytics.

Georgia's Southern is one of them.

We'll get to that in a second.

Sean White with a grand slam, that high lighted the six run second inning and then the

pitching was flat out outstanding for Georgia's Southern.

DeGondier, one run, two hits, four innings, no walks, three punchouts.

Mason, two and a third innings, scattered three base hits, a walk and two punchouts.

Calc Brenner, two and two thirds innings, one hit, one walk, I did hit a guy and a strike

out.

So there wasn't a whole lot of Clemson base runners, although they did have some at

the end, right?

And these are their ERAs after the fact, all right?

They gave up one run, all right?

DeGondier, six point seven, five.

Mason with his 10.32 ERA after two and a third innings of Shutout Baseball.

He's got two of the five Georgia Southern wins this year.

And Calc Brenner went two and two thirds innings of Shutout Baseball.

His ERA is seven point seven, one.

That's after the fact.

So just a major, major upset, Georgia Southern's RPI, I thought I saw it at 179 and may have

gone down to 176, but now it's 139 and that's a huge pump.

And maybe, maybe they are, they'll be battle tested as they enter in to the Sunbelt season.

Here's where some of that analytics is going to be interesting, all right?

For Southern Miss, is number one in RPI, number one with strengths of schedule, right?

Georgia Southern is 30th in strength of schedule.

Let's see if that's gone up even because yeah, it did.

It was 30th during the game.

Strength of schedule is 28.

I don't understand how the non-conference schedule is 29, have they played a conference

game today?

Miss something.

Their strength of schedule is 28th in the nation.

So they can start, unfortunately, that strength of schedule is going to start coming down,

right?

But that's a good spot to start it, all right?

And let's see who they open up, the season where they open up with James Madison, all

right?

They go to James Madison.

James Madison has been struggling this year.

They're seven and eight.

They got an RPI of 200, does a little bit of confidence when we talked about Georgia Southern

and the Sunbelt Commerce Tournament and Southern Miss and the Sunbelt Commerce Tournament,

a little bit of confidence and you're beating an RPI team that was eight and number 9th

in the country ranked, get up a little bit of confidence and can you go into JMU and

win two out of three and all of a sudden, here's the thing, Georgia Southern's RPI may

fall because James Madison is 200.

It is interesting on how this poll polling stuff works because you have a team like

Occasions, which have a top 20 RPI, but are not in the top 25.

You have LSU who's got an RPI in like the 140s, but are consistently in the top 25.

I don't know what LSU is going to be moving forward.

They'll probably be pretty good, but that's only based on history.

They should not be a top 25 team, all right?

Not after the week that they had, or they should be close to the bottom of the top 25,

all right?

They seem to be in the high teams for the most part, but they lost to McNeese, they lost

to Northeastern, they lost to the Cajuns and they lost two out of three to Sacramento

State.

They should not be a top 25 team, all right?

And then you have another, and so it's very interesting on how all that polling works,

kind of like the opposite, it feels like in basketball where it seems to be backwards

in basketball.

Okay.

The other analytics that I wanted to get to quickly was Troy, although they did fall,

or they were falling to, I think they did fall to Alabama here tonight, they did fall.

But they got an RPI of 72, and they are 6 and 10.

They got a strength schedule that's 13, I mean, how outstanding is that?

That's fantastic, right?

And so these teams that are struggling that have losing records, start getting more wins,

start winning series, start winning two out of three, and almost something their RPI is

going to go up, and it's all going to benefit the sundown.

So just a huge win by Clemson or by Georgia Southern, congrats to Rodney Ann, and I know

it has been a just a brutal start to the season, but great job by Georgia Southern to take

down other Clemson Tigers.

All right, let's get to the number one RPI team in the nation, Southern Miss, had a classic

pitcher's duel against Ole Miss.

We'll do that after I tell you about Mazda and game time.

So another classic mashup, Southern Miss has been the beneficiary of these games so far

because they've mostly been at home, I believe, right?

And that's always going to be helpful when you're playing in these ball games.

But they still have the number one strength of schedule.

They played UC Santa Barbara at home.

They went on the road, well, neutral, beat Purdue, Oregon State, and Baylor.

They did beat Alabama at home.

They did go to law attack, but they got Mississippi State at home.

They did lose the Nichols at home.

And they did sweep North Alabama and now Ole Miss, all right.

They do go to Mississippi State and they do go to Ole Miss later on this season.

But they've played one road game, oh, no, I'm sorry, they've played four, lot tech.

All right.

So that's it.

Ole Miss has been at Pete Taylor Park, right?

Yeah.

That is all.

Oddly enough, the strength and schedule for Southern Miss did go down to two.

Hmm.

All right.

I'm not sure how that happened, but it did.

All right.

So they get passed, Southern Miss beats Ole Miss, two to one, great basketball game.

By the way, and on the side note, I had a bunch going on, right?

I went to the Marshall game earlier.

They did lose Louisville, but we had, usually on the stream, on ESPN Plus, you can't dial

up your own multi-view, but they had Coastal on one station and they had Texas and Texas

state on another.

And then on the phone, I was able to watch other Southern Miss again.

All right.

So I was stuck in a catcher with a big clutch base hit.

That brought home the winning run, which was a pinch runner who would come in to run

at second base.

Both teams scored a run in a fifth, and then it was just the pitching.

It was outstanding.

Thomas Krabtree gave up one run, no walks, three innings a work.

Three innings, gives up the one run, two hits, no walks, pair of strikeouts.

Bruce Littleton, one shutout innings, two strikeouts, Josh Oach, one in the third innings,

one walk, two punchouts, and Camden Clark with his 95 plus mile per hour fastball.

Get the strikeout, get Southern Miss out of a jam in the ninth inning, and he picks

up the win.

He goes to three and no.

The thing is, Ole Miss had just as good as pitching, right?

Taylor, is it Rabby?

Rab?

Rab?

Two in a third innings, one strikeout.

That's it.

Marco Sipila, one in a third innings, one hit, one walk.

Owen Kelly did give up the one run on three base hits in the fifth inning, Grayson Gibson,

ending in two thirds, one walk, that's it did hit a better.

JP Robertson, he ends up with a loss as he got the jam going in the ninth, and Lang

Landon Coneyg, okay, Nick, whichever, he gives up the game winning base hit, did have a

walk, that's his first walk of the year.

He had no walks and 13 strikeouts coming into the game tonight.

Just a great game, great crowd at Petailer Park, that place looks full, much fuller than

other stadiums around the Sunbelt.

Now they go on the road, and it is an enormous series for both teams because the biggest surprise

in the Sunbelt right now, other than maybe the Cajuns, and it's not the Cajuns, it's

how good the Cajuns may be, that may be the biggest surprise, and I may be surprised

that they're this good at all, all right?

Overall, it is absolutely Arkansas State, I believe they're 13 and 5, they took down Little

Rock 12 to 5, and now we're going to find out how good Arkansas State is, right?

They went toe to toe with Arkansas, they beat Arkansas, lost one, nothing to Arkansas,

let's see what their losses are against.

You know what, I'm going to do that more knowing, because then you get a better idea what

it is.

The Caj is 80 right now.

Their strength and schedule is not so hot, it's in the 170s, all right?

They swept Stony Brook, they didn't lose to Ole Miss 7 to 6, they didn't lose to Eastern

Illinois one time, but they did take two out of three from Eastern Illinois.

Split with Arkansas, did sweep Arkansas, Pinebluff, but they're in the 180s, and they did beat

Louisiana Tech twice, which was big, but then they lost to Oral Roberts, a couple of

times before beating them 7 and nothing, now they do beat Little Rock, all right?

And obviously this is going to be by far the biggest challenge that Arkansas State has

this year, all right, or this season so far, maybe this year period, but we'll see.

You know, this is a great opportunity to gauge where you are as a program.

Are you competing?

Are you getting steamrolled?

Are you getting run ruled?

All right, there's a difference.

I know the idea is to win, but let's see where they are, maybe they take two out of three.

Maybe Southern Miss is a little cocky coming in, beating Ole Miss and Mississippi State,

all right?

They're second road series of the year, so they have played that one lot tech series,

and they swept a lot tech.

That's as impressive to me, although maybe a lot tech's not quite as good as they thought

they were, but they were eight and one when they were in there, so everybody thought

a lot tech was good, they may not be, we'll see what happens at the end of the year.

So we'll see, this is a big series in the Sun Belt, that is for sure.

All right, let's take a time out.

We'll go over the rest of the Sun Belt, Coastal Carolina, big six thinning.

They take down Wake Forest.

All right, Dave Schultz locked on Sunbelt your teams every day.

I mean, as days go, it was watching Sunbelt baseball all day long.

Hashtag always a bright side.

It was a really nice spring day, which may not be the case here on Wednesday.

So Marshall took it on the chin Louisville 16 to five.

It was not pretty.

Yeah, it was just not pretty.

I had this.

I had the game up here where there it is.

One gentleman.

Well, Zion Rose is a preseasonal American making his season debut for Louisville.

I mean, Marshall actually got on top three, nothing.

And they kept on scoring runs, but Katie, you know, I'm four for four.

But it was Ben Slanker who didn't hit one home run.

He had two home runs finished with eight runs batted in looked like he hit the train

going by.

There's a train tracks in between the baseball stadium and the football stadium.

And it looked like he hit it.

And he had one out the right field and he went out the left.

The wind was blowing out to left field.

So him hitting it out the right field was impressive.

I will say Marshall took advantage of a mistake and got three runs in the first inning.

And Peyton Jackson did give up four runs, but he had a nice shut out first inning.

See if you can build on that.

But some guys took it on the chin for Marshall, all right, and had a chance to talk to Greg

Beales.

I did post that quick one minute, you know, interview minute and a half interview.

He was impressed by the Marshall defense, didn't use a lot of the bullpen and going to

try and beat Louisville today before they open up with Georgia State.

All right.

Coastal Carolina, we know have not had a particularly good season, mostly because they lost

for two best pitchers.

Camp Fluki made one start.

Hey, Jensen was, Johnson was coming back, didn't make a start.

They are out for two months, all right, we'll see if they are back.

We said, uh, 68 weeks may first, right, maybe sooner, maybe, but that could be pushing

it.

All right.

And it just hasn't been a good season for coastal up to this point.

They did take two out of three from East Carolina.

They did lose on Sunday, all right.

But they were behind Wake Forest, uh, four to two and then exploded, uh, with a, I'm

sorry, a seven run, a six thinning, beating Wake Forest, 10, uh, to four, um, and they

sort of dinked and dunked them because they kept on getting our base hits with the bases

loaded and it was just one run coming home at a time.

Let's see if we can go to those plays, uh, in the six thinning and we'll tell you what

we're talking about.

Although oddly enough, the season, the season, the innings started with a solo home run.

Usually that's the rally, usually don't rally after that, but or sometimes, you know,

you need a three run home run and you get a two run home run and that sort of takes

the air out of it and you don't rally enough, but not in this case, um, not in this case.

So call me Thorn Dyke, homer, making it four to three, all right.

Um, there was a bases loaded walk that tied the ball game up, uh, Dean Michos, RBI single,

one run, trace Mason, RBI single, one run.

Rick Barthol hit by pitch, one run and Rex Watson, um, he may have had the two RBI double.

He did.

He had the two RBI base hit, bringing home a couple of runs.

So it was kind of again, dinking and dunking, but that counts as well.

These were line drives, um, maybe two hard hit, all right, but they weren't bringing more

than one run home and they got a seven spot and easily went on to beat Wake Forest.

Let's see where a coastal Carolina is because they didn't have a great, uh, RBI either lately.

Coastal Carolina is up to 60, there's a one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.

So they are one of the eight, um, that does have a top 100 RBI.

Let me see RBI, they move up that much, let's see here, they moved up 32 spots.

So they were in the 90s.

They beat Wake Forest, they moved up 32 spots, uh, Georgia Southern, what do we say moved

up 40?

Let's see what the actual, uh, is now they're 134, they've moved up 50, it's from the beginning

of the week, but they've moved up 50 spots.

So between the two, that's a 82 point move up for the sun belt.

That's pretty good.

Right.

That's pretty good.

So coastal Carolina takes down Wake, that's a big win.

Coastal Carolina is going to app state.

I feel like app state has cooled off just a bit.

Felt like they were playing some good ball.

They did lose.

I think they got swept, they're 10 and 6.

The Gardner Web sweep them, they did, uh, they lost in 11 innings.

I mean, they lost three one run games.

They lost seven to six and 12, 11 to 10 and eight to seven.

That's brutal.

They lost to Wake Forest, nine to eight.

They did take Presbyterian cows, they did sweep Presbyterian, they lost, uh, on Tuesday

to Western Carolina, which has an RPI of 79.

That's an awful, uh, 13 to three, but they're hosting coastal Carolina.

So big opportunity for app to see where they are.

All right.

Now, their strength of schedule is not where the others are, which we've been talking

about.

Strength of schedule is in the just 246.

So that is going to end up going up, especially we'll take a big bump, uh, after playing, uh,

coastal Carolina.

That's for sure.

All right.

Elsewhere in the sun belt, Cajuns do take down, uh, UT, uh, Rio Grande.

Valley, uh, 11 to, uh, seven, I believe, yes.

All right.

So the Cajuns stay hot.

Let's see if they moved.

Remember they, um, they had taken that, they lost on Sunday, so they fell just a little

bit.

They are up 14.

So I'm still having a great, their strength of schedule is 26.

It's outstanding.

That's, that's such good stuff for, uh, the sun belt.

Um, Texas state is taking it on the chin.

They're going to go down to Texas.

Uh, they made it a little ball game, but it has, uh, gotten, uh, away from the bobcats.

Um, Alabama does take down Troy, but Troy's got that good strength of schedule.

All right.

We'll see what happens there.

Um, Georgia state, uh, they lose to Mercer 16 to six.

Mercer is 15 and two, by the way.

Uh, Radford beats James Madison, four to two, uh, East Carolina blanks, Old Dominion,

11 and nothing.

And Arkansas state does, uh, take down a little rock, uh, 12 to five.

There's only three scheduled games on Wednesday.

Uh, I'm going to one of them again, Marshall is taking on a Louisville again.

I think they came to move up to 10 South Alabama is taken on, um, South Eastern and

actually the Cajuns, uh, they announced that, uh,

on a Tuesday that the McNeese game was going to be postponed because they're expecting

rain on Wednesday.

So save McNeese, uh, the trip.

All right.

Uh, so you only got the two ball games South Alabama taken on South Eastern and Louisville

taken on Marshall.

All right.

And then we will talk, uh, Sunbelt Conference, all right, because again, you got some,

you got Southern Miss going to Arkansas, Arkansas state, you got South Alabama going

to the Cajuns and you got coastal going to App State among, uh, the series.

So we'll see how it goes.

And again, not to start in perpetually rumors, but we may have this Sunbelt champion basketball

coach on our show just throwing it out there.

We'll see.

Uh, we'll see if we can pull that one off.
