The center of the Sharks take care of business at home and ship out an extra
0:05
defensive and that a pretty quiet trade deadline.

0:55
And today we're going to be a nice little, very easy trade deadline episode as the Sharks really didn't do too much.
1:02
They took care of some business by resigning Alex and Delkovich.
1:06
And then they traded Timothy Lilgergren, so we'll talk about those two moves and what they mean.
1:10
And then we'll discuss, was this the right approach by my career to not really do too much at the deadline.
1:18
So let's go started with Alex and Delkovich, who will be sticking around here for the next two seasons.
1:26
And Delkovich, who was one of these Sharks's UFA's going into the deadline here, three signs.
1:33
And if you're a long time fan of the show, I said this, October, before the season started,
1:43
one of my bull predictions was,
1:45
Alex and Delkovich will resign for the Sharks at two years, three million dollars.
1:51
I said three million or three and a half, but still.
1:55
Fast forward to now.
1:57
And the Sharks did just that.
1:59
And Delkovich, who has had a really strong season for the San Jose Sharks,
2:04
they acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins for a third round pick this off season,
2:08
has, you know, I think has been a great one B to ask of.
2:14
We've seen Delkovich especially since the beginning of January play extremely well for San Jose.
2:20
He's been, you know, winning the majority of the games that he's playing.
2:24
He starts tonight against whatever is left of the St. Louis Blues roster.
2:28
And I think this is a guy, you know, like where you heard the Bavarovsky rumors,
2:36
right, you look at the potential free agent class and for the goalies,
2:41
I think Rear just was like, I'm really happy with this group.
2:44
And I think that was a big theme of today.
2:48
It's just, I'm really happy with this group here.
2:51
So, but yeah, you, you feel happy for the Delkovich,
2:55
who should be a very strong one B for you going forward.
3:01
And that the, you know, in this Asgard continues his growth and hopefully consistency
3:09
that the Delkovich will just continue to kind of be that spot start guy,
3:15
but you're not feeling like whenever he rolls out, you're in trouble, right?
3:20
There's not, you know, not Ralph Wiggum in the back of the bus saying, I'm in danger.
3:24
Like the Delkovich has been arguably the better of the goal tend, like the numbers say
3:28
the Delkovich has been the better goal tender this year, as you would expect,
3:32
right, with Asgard going through his first full season here, but I think it's just
3:37
super steady. You feel like you have a chance any time the Delkovich is in net.
3:41
And I wouldn't, I'm going to be interested to see how they do kind of split the Asgard
3:47
Delkovich starts here down the stretch because, you know, Asgard is the future,
3:53
but Sharks also trying to win games right now as well.
3:58
But yeah, happy for Ned. It feels like he might have found a bit of a home here.
4:02
We know like the Delkovich and Asgard have been a really nice pair together and working well
4:07
on and off the ice. And, you know, Gaelic and Delkovich has kind of been there, done that and
4:12
been through a lot of different stuff. I think this is a perfect spot for him to kind of stick
4:17
around here. So the other big news, of course, that we had to wait 90 minutes after the
4:24
actual trade was announced to hear the return was Timothy Lilgegrim, the defenseman heading
4:29
to the Washington capitals. We know the capitals traded John Carlson late, late last night
4:36
and needed someone who can kind of help fill in that puck-moving maybe play on the powerplay
4:44
type of defenseman. And we knew Lilgegrim who'd been a healthy scratch and had a lot of ups and
4:51
downs this season. And for some reason has a nice tendency to score on his own goalie.
4:57
We kind of felt like the odd man out, and especially with Shakira Mooka-McDullin,
5:01
who has played well since he kind of got inserted back into the lineup in Mooka-McDullin,
5:06
who is younger. And you still in RFA and the Sharks have his rights. I think this is the right move
5:13
to move out one of these defenseman here. And Lilgegrim, I think, was that combination of
5:19
doesn't really make a lot of sense for the Sharks right now. And you'll still get something of value
5:25
and you've got a fourth round pick back, which in the grand scheme of things a fourth round pick
5:29
is whatever. But I think for for San Jose, this is more about opening up a roster spot for a guy
5:36
like Mooka-McDullin to play. Sam Dickinson to continue to play, right? Because now Lilgegrim
5:44
is always like the power play three guy. Now you would assume either Mooka-McDullin or Dickinson,
5:52
a right, if Klingberg isn't able to go or if Orlov is not able to go,
5:58
one like Dickinson or Mooka-McDullin is probably getting first crack as your next power play guy
6:04
here. But this is more about opening up a spot for one of those guys. And the potential
6:10
Eric Polkamp signing, I think that we're all expecting when his season at University of Denver is over.
6:17
So, you know, it kind of felt like it was going to have to be done. And it is now done here.
6:24
But yeah, those are the moves for the San Jose Sharks here for the day. And it
6:30
elglish gets re-signed and Lilgegrim gets traded away for a fourth round pick. So,
6:37
was this the right approach by my career to kind of just stick with the guys you have?
6:45
So we'll discuss that here in just one second.
6:53

10:17
approach by my career to be pretty quiet? And I know there's like there's definitely two sides.
10:25
There's the cell anything that's not bolted down because the sharks aren't winning the playoff
10:32
are winning Stanley Cup here and I get it, you know, like I've talked about before where I'm very
10:38
much in the I think the sharks you have to kind of stack right you look at teams like Colorado
10:45
when they were coming up where it was like okay, let's make the playoffs and then let's get
10:53
to the next point like then let's get through the first round and like they kind of stacked
10:57
and stuff. You have to start somewhere. So I totally get it. But you know, you like I get the
11:07
you know, those pointed people who are like for our clingberg just get whatever you can for them.
11:13
I understand it. Am I disappointed that my career maybe didn't try to like add something
11:22
a little bit but then you see the prices that some of these players got and you're like, you know what?
11:29
I am happy with what I have right now, you know, when like the shens are going for first round picks
11:36
and like you see all the the exorbitant cost for some of these defensemen.
11:43
Okay, man, let's just ride what we got right now. So, you know, from Greer, so he said,
11:54
where was it? I think Curtis had the the quote trying to pull it up here at the same time. But
12:00
you know, he was basically said like he got calls on Mario, Farrow and John Clingberg.
12:07
And here's basically we got calls on these guys over the last couple weeks in the last couple
12:10
days where it's interested them, but the group they've kind of scrapped and battled their way all
12:14
season long. Even in the last games they've played well and kind of got themselves back into the mix.
12:19
So it kind of felt like it was the best thing to do and all fairness to them to kind of keep the
12:24
group together and see how the rest of the season goes. Okay, so you know, and again, Liger and
12:33
what were you or not for Liger and Clingberg? What were you realistically getting for John Clingberg?
12:40
Fifth fourth fifth round pick. Okay, cool. There's like an AHL player type of thing.
12:49
Farrow, maybe you got a second. Okay, like a second is valuable. You could do something with that,
12:54
but we've talked about it before where the sharks, they don't have a guy right now who feels like
13:02
they can do the same thing, Mario, Farrow. Now, if they had made the trade for like a British
13:07
Schneider, that would be much more justifiable. So I get it from Greer's point where just the
13:15
cost of doing business was so high, like that Isles trade for Luke Shen, or was it Braden Shen? One
13:24
of the, the, the, for, it was Braden Shen, sorry. Like that's ridiculous for Braden Shen,
13:32
for Isles team who's kind of in this, like, I know they're a little bit more in the playoff
13:36
position than the sharks are, but like that, that's a, that's a massive cause for a defenseman
13:44
like him. You know, the Red Wing's paid a first round pick plus for Justin Falk. Like you see the
13:53
cost of doing business for some of these defensemen, and I'm okay with Greer sitting out at this
14:01
point and kind of rolling with what you have. And you've opened up some room, you feel like
14:06
you're going to have some reinforcements coming, whether it's Churnishov, whether it's
14:12
Lupin Canyon, hopefully, maybe get no amount in the mix, or you know, Eric Polkamp, like you,
14:18
you have some internal growth. And that is what the sharks are potentially banking on here. And
14:24
you know, there'll be plenty of people criticizing, well, you know, if the sharks don't make the playoffs,
14:29
or if they make the playoffs, they get crushed by the odds in the first round, which I fully expect.
14:34
And then you go into the summer and you get nothing from Mario Farrow, you let him walk, like
14:39
that's a criticism that that's fair criticism right there. But you know, I think for what this team
14:47
is and what they're trying to do right now and right now they're trying to get the most important
14:52
thing to this team right now is getting playoff or playoff like experience for their young players
15:00
like Celebrini and Smith and Eclan and Dickinson and Asterov and all these guys here,
15:07
to that way when you go into next year and you have about $1,000,000 in the off season and you
15:12
have that oilers pick that you're most likely going to be dangling for something. You're going into
15:19
next year with these guys already having kind of laid the foundation of what it's like to go through
15:24
a playoff run. And now the expectation is next year, it's like this is a playoff team next year.
15:30
And some of these guys kind of have that cows built up and kind of have some of those wounds. So
15:36
if you know, if not getting a second round pick out of Mario Farrow is, you know, these two
15:42
these guys being a better overall team because Celebrini's gone through it now and Smith has gone
15:49
through it and all these guys have kind of gone through it. I think that that's a cost you can
15:54
maybe talk yourself into. So again, is it disappointing? Yes. I mean transactions are super fun,
16:01
right? It's fun to talk about transactions. But you know, I think for what Greer wants and what
16:08
Greer is trying to do, I get why he didn't do really anything and I understand. And again,
16:16
seeing these prices that went out today, ridiculous prices. So yeah, maybe Greer might have sold,
16:25
maybe he could have sold on somebody like a Farrow. But you know, I think with especially with
16:31
the weather Blues Rat, with they were selling and you know, the guys that the Jets Rat,
16:37
those I think were kind of the premier names on the market and maybe Greer just didn't get
16:43
what he really, really wanted. It wasn't blown away by an offer. So that's going to be for me,
16:47
like I said, we'll be back tonight. We're going to talk about these sharks Blues or again,
16:53
whatever is left of this Blues roster. So we'll talk about that game tonight to make sure you
