It's the score north twin show.
All right, score north twin show. It's Dex here. No Mackie and Judd today.
For state of the twins, we just had some some scheduled conflicts. So I wanted to hop on
just to a quick episode here on this Monday. The first state of the twins of the 2026 season.
I wanted to hop on and just get provide some updates from over the weekend. We didn't have a full
episode since the series concluded in Baltimore. I wanted to touch on some things, what went right,
what went wrong. Excited to be here. Hit the like button and subscribe button to you on the
score north twin show YouTube channel. You guys have supported the channel. There's a bunch of
twins podcasts out there. I appreciate you guys coming to us for your Minnesota twins news. So
we'll have a coach Trev Tuesday tomorrow with Trevor Ploof on the score north twin show. So
he'll have some thoughts from his observations too. So be on the lookout for that tomorrow afternoon.
Twins now in Kansas City. They wrapped up their three-gamer with Baltimore. Now they're in Kansas City.
The built-in off day tomorrow. So I know these off days sometimes get a little little
long and challenging, but at the same time, at least there is some baseball left. So let's talk
about what went right and let's kind of give an overview for the Minnesota twins on the 2026 season.
In terms of run scored through three games, some teams have played four. The twins are 19th in
run scored in team ERA. The twins are 16th. Playoff odds as we do will update these every single
week on the score north twin show on Mondays typically. The twins have a 0.8% chance to make the
playoffs. Only the white socks are sorry, not the white socks. The white socks have a better
playoff odds actually. The Rockies and Nationals are the only two teams that have a worst post-season
percentage and your current Minnesota twins who are one and two run differential wise. They're
exactly even. They scored 11 runs. They allowed 11 runs. So let's talk about some of the things
that went right for the twins in Baltimore. And honestly, as the headline suggests here for
the YouTube audience or the podcast science hit the play button, should the twins have swept
Baltimore? I think that's actually a really interesting question here because on Thursday,
they lose just a one run game. We went over in great detail. Was it the right call to pinch it for
Royce Lewis or not? We'll get into that in just a sec. But they lose an opening day. They have a
jillion runners in scoring position. They can't drive them over. And they lose. That's going to
happen sometimes throughout the course of baseball season, obviously. So they lose the opener. They
get the off day on Friday. They reset things a little bit. And then they come back on Saturday.
And the twins put together their first win of the year. They win four to one off the bat of Royce
Lewis having the first home run of the twin season. Again, how he responds to that adversity was
really interesting, right? He gets pinch hit for bringing Trevor Larnick. And what is Royce? Do
he goes out and he homeers? He puts the twins up. He homeers again on Sunday. And the twins
essentially, even the series on Saturday, Taj Bradley was was pretty good. He did get into some
trouble with some control early on. And that is a theme of his can be a theme of him. But Taj goes
4.1 innings on Saturday, allows three hits just the one run, but does strike out nine batters,
which was obviously pretty impressive. Had I believe 16 swings and misses. He's dialing up
near 100 miles an hour. Again, I actually think of all the things that are going on with the
twins and what's what's really frustrating. Taj Bradley is not one of them. I actually think
it's going to be really fun to watch him this year with the twins. You know, they traded him straight
up for Griffin jacks. Poor Griffin jacks gives up a quintessential jacks bomb. I believe an
unopening day, for example, Bay. But Taj looked freestyle. You certainly want to see him go deeper
into games. That wasn't the case. You know, being pulled in the fifth there in the pitch count round
up. And they bring in Bonda. I think Anthony Bonda probably will be their best reliever this year.
They're at least as their best reliever right now on the twins roster. But the twins respond well
and they win, right? They win four to one series finale on Sunday. Things are looking promising.
Twins jump out to a four, nothing lead in Baltimore. Thanks to
Preston Gray's bases clearing double. He gets the twins on the board. Their Royce also hit a
home run. This game will get to that. But Tristan Gray goes two for three clears the bases, puts the
twins up forward and nothing. Bailey Ober got the ball here. And this was an interesting kind of
strategy by the twins. So Bailey just goes 56 pitches in those four innings of work. He
gave up four hits, three runs, one walk, a strike out of home run and gets pulled in and they put in
Mick Abel as kind of his piggybacker essentially. And Mick who has never, I believe, pitched out of
relief before, at least in the majors or in his minor league career, he gets shelt. He goes three
and a third gives up eight hits. Again, the execution of his pitches where we're tough here had four
walks. He did have four strikeouts. But with all these off days that are built in, they don't
necessarily have the need for a fifth starter and not to tax their bullpen too much. They decide
we'll go with this piggyback route essentially. Bailey over into Mick Abel. The twins end up
blowing that four, nothing lead. Royce comes out in the seventh hits his second home or the year.
They tie things up now at five to five. But then again, the bullpen kind of rearing its ugly head
here, Mick Abel struggles a little bit, gives up a few more runs there in the seventh inning,
and even though Tristan Gray did actually get some stuff down at the bottom of the order, twins fall
eight to six. So yeah, I guess on opening weekend, you certainly dissect things more than you would
when they play Cincinnati here in a couple of weeks. You're going to overanalyze the first
series of the year compared to the ninth series of the year. But it really felt like, and I'm not
just like being a homerished here. It just felt like the twins actually had a really good chance to
sweep this series. And they didn't. You would take the series win obviously too in any way you take it.
But one in two on the year and now they play Kansas City. And I guess,
you know, if you want to be really nitpicky here, I'd rather them win the series against a
divisional foe than, you know, someone that's not in their division. So if they can take a series
in Kansas City, come back at three and three for home for this long stretch of games or they don't
have another off day after tomorrow until April 16th. That'll be a good thing for them. But,
I mean, there were some positives. I thought Royce responded well with a couple bombs and the
adversity on opening day of a big home run for him. You know, what I don't love, I don't love,
I didn't love the Mick Abel thing. And I also, it's a strategy here by Shelton's very strange,
the Cody Clemens lead off plan against specifically obviously right handed pitching. So,
Cody's got some pop, right? He had a bunch of home runs last year. It was kind of a nice
sensational story for them. But he's like a sub three hundred on base percentage. And, you know,
some lead off hitters in a day's baseball are certainly maybe more slug. But at the same time,
I think having a guy with a 286 on base percentages kind of criminally low and kind of just a
weird bet to make. No, do you put Bucsden back up there? Do you put Keeshal who had just like,
I think a couple hits over the weekend? I mean, they tried the Mount Walner thing. And I didn't hate
that. And he's drawn some walks like I'd honestly put Mount Walner back at the top of the lineup.
If we're gonna do the power thing, I'd rather get the guy that has as much power as Cody Clemens
and just has a better ability to get on base. So, you know, he's taking with things again,
how much we want to overanalyze the first week of the season and all the mandrel decisions that
Derek Shelton has made. We can debate, but didn't love that. Shelton did get ejected yesterday for
for the ABS with Ryan Helsley. He claimed that Helsley challenged too late. It took too much time.
Shelton gets tossed. Very excited for the John Boy breakdown of that. I believe that's the first
ejection with the ABS system, not because Shelton was trying to prove it was a ball or strike, but
because he thought Helsley took too much time. And he was obviously pretty pissed off. I'm a
terrible lip reader, which is exactly why I'm really excited for John Boy hopefully to break that
down for us on his platforms over the next coming days. But yeah, I didn't love the Cody Clemens
lead off plan. You know, again, how much do we want to overanalyze some things here? You know,
Buck looked really good, drew some walks, had some pop here. I thought Royce responded well,
and it'll be interesting to see, I guess, how the rest of this kind of shakes out. And
Simeon Woods Richardson will get the ball today in Kansas City for the twins. So Simeon gets the ball
against Chris Boobitch, who is a really nasty lefty. So the twins will have to face another
left handed pitcher today on Monday as we record this. So we'll see what that lamp looks like
again, probably Austin Martin, right as your lead off hit here against lefties. So we'll see all
the twins respond from there. But yeah, I just wanted to go over some of the things here on the
Skornor Twin Show on the first weekend series of the year and see where they had here against
Kansas City. You know, I did think there were some positives. The runners in Skorn position thing,
obviously got to be better at that. Got to just take advantage of those opportunities. They
didn't do that. But I thought Todd's looked really well and a pitch pretty well. Joe Ryan's been good.
So there were some good things to take away. One more note here though on the Skornor Twin Show.
I just want to do a quick little episode with you guys because we don't have Mackie Joe with me
today. But we will have a coach treb Tuesday with the full strength show going tomorrow.
Let's talk Saint Paul Saints, dude. So I put a social video out on this platform over the weekend
on Saturday. If you do not want to watch the twins, if you're boycotting the twins, go watch
the Saint Paul Saints game. Number one, it's a beautiful ballpark and it's a great place to be.
It's a fun organization to support. And they have some dogs in their lineup, man. I mean,
Walker Jenkins, Gabby Gonzalez, Kaelin Callfepper, who looked great in the first weekend series here.
Alan Rodin is still down there. He's going to factor into the twins plans.
I would even key out on guys like John Climbe, who struck out four yesterday and out of the bullpen.
Marco Raya, who hopefully will develop in maybe into some type of nice, nice reliever for them.
If you don't want to support the twins, go support Saint Paul Saints. And just in FYI,
even though they're affiliated with the twins as they're triply affiliate, they don't like share
revenue with the twins. So if you were to like your money going somewhere and you're like, oh,
I don't want to support them. It's going back to the twins. If that is like your prerogative,
it's not necessarily my prerogative, but I know fans, some fans do feel that way. Go watch Walker
Jenkins and Gabby Gonzalez and Kaelin Callfepper. And hopefully by the time these guys come up,
you know, they're in a better spot than some other prospects that maybe haven't put together a
full season. But I think you're going to see a really fun team in Saint Paul this year.
And it's rare to have like three top 100 prospects in all of baseball in one lineup,
you know, essentially just down the road from target field. So if you're looking for something to do
and if you're looking for another team to support during these maybe like boycotting,
protesting times of your favorite baseball team, go watch Saint Paul Saints game. I'm going to
try to go out there tomorrow in the press box and just kind of observe and watch and see what
you see what the Saints have. I watch a lot of these guys at spring training last month. But now
that they're essentially just down the street for me, I'm really excited to watch that as well. So
yeah, you know, if Kaelin Callfepper had a home run, hit in 357 through three games, you know,
Walker Jenkins, they're kind of treating it like a rehab plan. So he plays opening day on Friday,
gets a scheduled day off on Saturday. That was part of the plan. And then he's back in the lineup
and plays against seven innings. Yes, they gets a couple hits. Looks good. So yeah, I mean,
like I'm pretty bullish on what the Saint Paul Saints can do. And if you're looking for something
to support, you can obviously go do that as well. But yeah, guys, I just a quick episode here on the
on the Schoenor twin show. Again, I just wanted to hop on, give a little state of the twins,
we'll have the regular state of the twins, our favorite things, our least favorite things,
the playoff odds, the key category statistics, like we'll have all that on every Monday show.
And then we'll have a coach trip Tuesday tomorrow on the Schoenor twin show, which will
should be super fun. And then some other, you know, bonus episodes from Target Field.
We'll mix in some feedback Fridays after a while. We'll do write that down every other week
on the Schoenor twin show too. So if you're interested in that, hit me up and just just specifically
say you want to be on the twin show right that down. We got three right that downs down and purple
daily flag and howls on the twin shows. So if you want to make some predictions with us,
hit me up. Love to get you on the show. We can make that happen for you. So
appreciate you guys. Hit the like button, subscribe button here. I'm Dex on the Schoenor twin show.
And we'll be talking at you guys soon.
