Let's go down coach. How you doing, man?
Hey coach.
We're good. How are you guys doing?
We're doing well, man.
Welcome back to the show. I appreciate you making time for us.
How did you spend the Olympic break?
Yeah, a little time away, stayed in the Bay area for a few days and then went south down to Mexico with the family and my kids.
You know, the first half there, first 55 games of the season was a grind.
So to get away, just get away from the game and kind of what I mentioned to all of our players as well.
And you grind and you get going and it feels like you just play every other day.
It's a lot mentally, not only physically.
To get away for the break, it was obviously extremely helpful for myself and our staff and the players.
I'm sure you caught up with it or paid attention to it.
I mean, a lot of fun that the Olympic tournament having the NHL players back in it from a coaching standpoint.
How challenging was that to reset and get rhythm after the break?
Yeah, you kind of go through the plan and we have a very large staff of sports,
performance, strength and conditioning and wanted to have a pretty good plan in place as far as rest and recovery and then ramping it back up to get going here for the last stretch drive here of 2020 plus game.
So, you know, we had a good plan in place as far as almost a short and training camp.
You know, we get a lot of data, a lot of numbers from these guys as far as workloads and you have to manage that.
And then you have the eye test of the coach, the old school coach and you know where you get to get them up speed.
So we're ready for that game coming back.
So, you know, I thought we had a pretty good start to the home stand.
Now we're on the road and it's a big road trip.
So, how'd you take in the Olympics with four-year players competing?
Did you find yourself kind of conflicted as a hockey fan in the gold medal game with Maclin playing against Team USA?
Who's your favorite coach?
A little bit.
Yeah, for sure.
And you're rooting for those guys, right?
And when Bergen encouraged you know, obviously Mac and you want those guys to do well and individually and for the team.
And obviously being American, you rooted for the, you know, really as a big fan of Team USA.
But you wanted Mac to do well.
He had a heck of a tournament.
Obviously put the world on notice on what type of player he is and obviously we've seen it here in San Jose.
But he put the world on notice for sure.
So, I'm going to start taking coach Ryan Worsavsky on the, the uma guest time.
So, Canada loses that gold medal game and over time it's, it's brutal way for the tournament to end for them.
But when a player like that comes back from a loss, if that magnitude and that close,
do you see it as fuel for them or do you have to kind of help them turn the page?
What's the emotion jumping back into NHL season?
Yeah, I think every player is a little bit different with Mac.
He's an ultra competitive person and you knew he was going to take it hard.
I mean, he takes our loss of Buffalo last time extremely hard.
But that's also what drives him and that's what makes him so great.
So, you know, I think he did a really good job of turning it into fuel and being excited for this push that we're in.
And, you know, but you also this times where, you know, you get a, you know, put your arm around him a little bit and not thinking he's got the weight on the world and of his shoulders.
So, I think he's done a really, really good job of coming back from that and kind of putting it behind him, learning from it and moving forward with our team here in San Jose.
Yeah, you mentioned last night tough lost it to Buffalo.
Really good team and your five game point streak at snap.
What do you see in a game like that that you want cleaned up heading into the next one?
Yeah, just our pace and our connectedness throughout the game from breaking your pox to getting on our four check.
You know, I think we're a team that we're on our four check.
We're one of the top five teams that's creating offense off of it.
And we just got away from it, you know, last night the game sped up on us and kind of compounded some mistakes with and without the puck.
So, you know, a tough start on against a really good team and a team that we hadn't seen.
So I think that probably caused by a little bit of surprise as well.
And we'll obviously see them coming back next week off this trip.
So again, we've got to move on. We're going to turn the page.
We're going to learn from it and be ready for another good boss and team tomorrow night.
Every day excessive delays and denials from big insurers keep patients from accessing the care they need.
And when care is urgent, these delays can be disastrous.
These practices cost billions in wasteful spending driving up costs for American families.
But while big insurers put up barriers, America's hospitals and health systems are in your corner.
Navigating endless reviews and appeals to get you the care you need when you need it most.
It's time to curb these harmful practices and put the focus back on patients.

Well coach, you've had three thrilling wins after the Calgary loss.
But since then some tough losses as you mentioned.
But how would you evaluate the team as a whole since your, since you returned from the Olympic break?
Yeah, I think we've really played some really good hockey.
Obviously a couple of overtime losses over the past weekend.
You wish you could have won, but I think we're controlling more play than we have ever have.
And really the last four years it was the felt like we were just trying to survive.
And now we've really turned the page as a group of finding now how to really play with momentum of hockey games longer and put it, you know, put in teams on their heels.
And I think that's when you really start making strides as an organization and as a team is when you can start carrying play for long periods of time.
And I think we did that during the home stand and had some success with it.
And now we got to do it in the road.
I'm talking to Ryan Worsovsky head coach of the San Jose Jones joined this year on the Ume gas line.
You get me to move in season key for Sherwood comes over via trade.
Just first and foremost, like when you have a GM like Mike rear who's adding to the team, I always feel like as a fan.
And I got to believe as a player that when you add a veteran with his, his status and his presence that he believes in what you guys are doing and you're looking to make that push.
How is his in season addition helped you guys?
Yeah, I mean, I mean, having a lot of conversations with Mike and what we need.
And he was a guy that we really when he came to be available was really high on our on our list just because of his attributes as far as how competitive he is, you know, how the pay fee plays out.
How he's a, you know, gives it everything he's got every shift he's, you know, physical at least top five and hits in the lead.
I get through dirty areas gets to the inside.
You know, we like to pace that he plays with and he's got a little old school mentality as far as getting under team skin and just gives you a little bit more swagger as a group.
And I think he's been a wonderful addition to our group and we're happy to have him long term.
I think it's pretty clear who I can jet pace and physicality the second he comes in.
Is that help protecting free space for a guy like Macklin?
For sure, you know, and we saw that early there, we had Mack and him together just to try to create some space and win some more pox and get and get physical on the four check and.
You know, get Mack the puck more, you know, the better he is that the more he has the puck on a stick, the better we're going to be so.
But he does create a lot of space for his teammates and he's got that warrior mentality wants to do whatever it takes to win and you need guys like that.
So again, like he's been a really good addition to our group.

Michael Misa was read hot with three straight goals, including that OT winner against Winnipeg and you said after the game he earned that goal.
How much growth have you seen from the second overall pick as the season has progressed?
Yeah, a big step.
I would say he took a really big step after the Olympic break.
I think the break was really good for him to get it.
Get away from the game for a little bit, but then start training.
get skating again and he did a really good job of going home and kind of reset
himself and he's playing with some you know you know the pace that we saw in
junior where he was you know creating a lot of offense and now he's getting
more confident in the game slow down for him. So he from the beginning of the
year to now he's probably our most improved player just for right next to Sam
Dickinson. So we obviously have some young players that are that are making some
big strides and you know Michael and Sam have done a really good job this year.
Coach, it's funny just why you were talking about key for sure when a couple
minutes ago and you mentioned the sort of he has a little bit of old school to him.
I think every generation thinks that at some point where we did it differently.
We did it harder. Every generation has it easier and there's so much
emphasis in every sport but especially in in the NHL on the skill set that these
young guys have is there something to and to sure would maybe specifically
but even more generally to having a guy who who has that grizzled element to him
who is going to go about it his way even though skill is the thing but to drag
a team into a fight every night is that is that important element?
I think it's one of the most important elements to have success especially in the national
hockey league and you could say that about a lot of sports.
You know, Maclin has that as does Sherwood they have this
ultra competitiveness that you know kind of seeps through their pores and it feeds off
and it's contagious to the rest of the group and you know we need guys like that
and you need guys like that to win down the stretch and ultimately and hopefully one day
when it's down the cup you need to have a group of those types of players doesn't mean
every guy needs to be like that but the more guys you have that drag guys into the fight
have an understanding of when it gets hard to get a little bit you know to get a little
uncomfortable you get to get you know comfortable in those situations and those guys help
drive you through those situations and that hard puck hard puck play you know hard
you know game and the inside of the ice that you need to have success at this time of year
and going forward coach how would you evaluate the performances of your goalies right now in the
young asker off in the experienced deductiveage yeah you know I think Ned's been done a really
good job and big reason why we you know we just refined him was the compliments you know ask
you really well he's an ultra competitor once then that he's given us a chance you know and
probably 95% of it starts to help us win a hockey game and that's all you can ask and
ask is a developing goalie and I think he gets a heightened you know spotlight on him because of
you know he plays that position and he's developing has he had some games where he wish he would
have had some goals back for sure but we have to remember he's still a young goal tenor that he's
learning just like Sam and William Mecklen and Macklen and Will they're going to make mistakes and
you got to grow through it and learn from it but I think ask he's played some really good hockey
coming back in the break you know I know the goals against aren't great but there's also some
nights where we've kind of left him out the dry so this kid is going to be a special goalie for a
long time and he's just kind of developing it as every young player doesn't this league just because
I haven't asked you enough about about Macklen um if you're like what's so exciting about him too is
I think for a casual fan or somebody flipping on a game like he passes the eye test for excitement
right like he's a fun guy to watch play it feels like his pace has jumped up since coming back
from the Olympics or maybe it's just maybe it's just the gap has made me maybe envy as of his
speed in his pace but from your bench view what part of his game is evolving the fastest right now
yeah I think you know when you see what he has his legs at night and you know what he's got to look
in his eyes usually that look is going towards me to get him on the ice as much as possible but
you know when he's got his legs he's going he wants to be out there he wants to puck on a sick he
wants to make things happen now like any great player that's great but there's also times where you
have some patience in your game and you got to be able to be okay when nothing happens in that
shift and and I think that's where Mack has grown the most um you know what he does on the ice
you know how he takes care of his body the way he plays defense how physically is defensively
is is simply remarkable for a young kid you I don't think you will we may not see someone like
this for the next you know 20 years if we're being really honest of the way he defends and how
hard he is and physically is so um he's a dog on a bone he he wants to be on the ice uh he
wants to make a difference but the patience is what has made him grow even more for me and in
washing them up close well right now you guys are only a point behind for the third wild card
spot and obviously playoff shot the goal but with 20 games remaining what is the biggest thing you
want to see from this young team to have what you would feel is a successful season yeah we want
to keep pushing you know and I think we can only take that one day to time you know we had a good
practice today we'll get ready for a game tomorrow we can't get wrapped up and what other people
are saying and you know what the stand that we just got focused on our first shift and growing
from there and you know we're going to enjoy this this is a fun time uh you know for a lot of
people you know myself Mario Ferraro William Mecklin that I've been here the last few years it's
been a tough four or five years in San Jose with you know March and April hockey where you kind of
you know you're out of it and you're ready for the next season now we're we're excited about this
we have to enjoy this and experience this and we're going to learn a lot of lessons like we have
all year along the way you know no one has a crystal ball and to see what's going to what's
going to happen and when the season's all done April 17th but all we can do is focus on you know
where our feet are you know that collecting points and try to win some hockey games and you know
kind of ignore the outside noise well last one for your coach I know you since been a rough
few year a rough few seasons for the San Jose sharks but is it clear the tank is back with the
excitement with you guys right now yeah big time I mean you noticed it you know throughout the
season but when we got back from the Olympic break you know those six games six sellouts you could
feel it you could feel it on the bench you could feel it before the games you can feel around the
you know the the community living in the Bay Area people are excited you know I think I said it
a few weeks ago you know I couldn't give away tickets and now I got everyone you know every
neighbor in my neighborhood asking me for tickets and that's when you know you get something
special going and people want to be part of it and see it and you know jump on the bag wagon
because this this is a bright future here in San Jose and we get some extremely young talent
that kids and we have some veterans that are really helped help these young kids come come around
and we're all excited for for the last 20 and and going forward you know to see what we can do
voice you hear sharks head coach Raya Warsaw ski coach we always appreciate the time man good
look on the rest of this road trip and we're excited to see the the way the season plays out we'll
talk to you down the road thanks coach thanks thanks thanks thanks thank you have me on
