Patrick Walters and the conversation dig into learned helplessness — that state where you've been stuck in a rut so long you start to believe you can't change your situation and everything's out of your control. The antidote he points to is one that's massively underrated: small wins.

Give yourself the opportunity to win a little so you can win big down the line. Set attainable, achievable goals that hand you motivation every time you hit one, which fuels you to set bigger and better goals. Most people make the mistake of wanting to reach the finish line before they even start the race — but it's the goals in between that make the difference. The 10-meter, 20-meter, and 50-meter marks are the ones you have to hit before you ever reach 100.

I talk about this thing called learned helplessness. We've been stuck in such a rut for so long, that you think you can't change the situation and everything is up to your control. To information, would you prefer to that person with that side of thinking? To essentially emancipate this one from that situation. Small wins underrated. Small wins. Very underrated. Small wins. Small wins. Small wins is so underrated, but you said it absolutely correct. Like, giving yourself an opportunity to win a little bit, so you could win big on the line. Giving yourself a attainable and achievable goals that will give you motivation as you hit them to set bigger and better goals for the future. That is what people tend to not do. They want to reach the finish line before they start the race. And they're not taking it right? Anyway, that's true. But it's the goals in between that really make the difference. And I think that 10 meter max, that 20 meter max, that 50 meter max, those are the ones that you want to hit before you even reach 100 meters, because you've got to hit those before you reach there.
