Sometimes We Wonder If Things Will Ever Get Better

Sometimes when we look at what’s going on in the world

and in our own lives,

we wonder if there is any hope.

“He said to me, ‘Mortal, can these bones live?’

I answered, ‘O Lord GOD, you know.’

— Ezekiel 37:3

Looking at things strictly from a human perspective,

it can be hard for us to believe that anything will ever change.

Perhaps we think the patterns are too deep.

The damage too great.

The cycle impossible to break.

But when we cannot see the way forward,

and our hope feels stretched thin,

we can do what the ancient writer did.

We can place our trust in something

bigger than ourselves.

We can trust in the presence of a loving God

who never leaves us or forsakes us—

who makes a way out of no way,

who brings hope to the hopeless

and life to the lifeless.

Will things ever get better?

If God says so.

And God does.

I’m Horace McMillon.

This is 60 Seconds of Hope.

Peace be with you.
