Good morning, this is your surf zone forecast for South Florida brought to you by the National Weather Service in Miami.
We're looking at a HIGH SURF ADVISORY in effect for Coastal Palm Beach until 2 PM Monday, so if you're in that area, pay close attention. A HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK is in effect through Monday evening for all of South Florida's Atlantic beaches.
Let's start with the Palm Beach area, where conditions are going to be the most active. Today expect four to six foot surf with mostly cloudy skies and showers likely along with a moderate chance of thunderstorms. High temperatures will reach the upper 70s with east winds around 15 miles per hour. That very high UV index means sunscreen is a must if you're heading out. Tonight into Monday, things are only going to pick up. Surf heights will build to five to seven feet, which is pretty substantial for this time of year. Monday itself will be mostly sunny with a chance of showers and thunderstorms, and that high rip current risk continues throughout the day.
Moving south to Fort Lauderdale and Miami, the scene is much calmer. Expect one to two foot surf today and two to three foot surf Monday. Today will be partly sunny with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Winds will be east at 10 to 15 miles per hour with water temperatures in the upper 70s. Despite the smaller waves, that high rip current risk is still in effect, so swimmers need to remain vigilant, especially near any structures like piers and jetties.
Over on the southwest coast in Collier County, it's a different story entirely. Surf is minimal at one foot or less with low rip current risk, so that's your safest swimming option. It'll be mostly sunny today with highs around 80 degrees and similar conditions Monday in the lower 80s.
All areas are dealing with moderate thunderstorm potential and very high UV indices, so keep an eye on developing storms and don't forget that sunscreen. Water temperatures are holding nicely in the upper 70s everywhere. Whether you're catching waves at Palm Beach or taking a casual swim in Naples, stay safe out there.
