South Florida Surf Forecast Saturday: Sunny Skies, High Rip Current Risk, Five to Seven Foot Waves Sunday

Good morning. This is your Saturday surf forecast for South Florida brought to you by the

National Weather Service in Miami. We're looking at a beautiful day at the beach today with sunny

skies and temperatures in the lower 80s. Water temperatures are holding in the upper 70s, so

conditions are comfortable for a swim or paddle out. However, we do need to talk about rip currents.

A high rip current risk is in effect through late Sunday night across the Palm Beach,

Broward and Miami-Dade coastlines. Life-threatening rip currents are likely in the surf zone,

so if you're heading to the water, please be aware and stay in your lifeguards.

Remember, if you find yourself caught in a rip, swim parallel to the shore rather than fighting it

directly. Surf heights today will be relatively modest at one to two feet across most of the region,

with very light north winds becoming easterly around 10 to 15 miles per hour this afternoon.

There's no thunderstorm threat today, and the UV index is very high, so don't forget your sunscreen.

Over in Collier County around Naples in Marco Island, conditions are even calmer

with surf under a foot and a low rip current risk.

Winds will be light from the north, and you'll see a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms,

though primarily sunny skies are expected. Now, looking ahead to Sunday, things are going to

change significantly. A system is moving in, and we're expecting moderate thunderstorm potential

across all coastal areas. Showers and thunderstorms will likely develop throughout the day.

The big story for Sunday will be the surf. Up in Palm Beach, we're forecasting five to seven

foot waves, significantly higher than today. That's where we'll see the most impressive conditions.

Broward and Miami Dade will see two to three foot waves, with east winds picking up to 15 to 20

miles per hour. Collier County will remain relatively calm with surf under a foot. Plus,

the high rip current risk continues through Sunday evening, so be extra cautious if you're in the water.

And here's an important note for those planning beach activities tonight. A high surf advisory is

an effect for the Palm Beach area from 8 p.m. this evening through 2 a.m. Monday morning.

Temperatures Sunday will be slightly cooler, running in the mid to upper 70s. Plan accordingly

if you're spending the day at the beach, and keep an eye on the developing weather situation as

the day progresses. Stay safe out there, and we'll have updates as conditions evolve.
