In qualifying, Verstappen initially positioned himself for pole, but in a dramatic final moment, Lando Norris clinched the top spot. However, Max Verstappen quickly overtook Russell on Lap 2, demonstrating his skill even without the best car on the grid. McLaren maintained strong pace throughout the race, frequently threatening Verstappen's lead. Despite their efforts, Max fended off challenges from Lando and the Mercedes duo to secure the win. This race indicated that Red Bull's dominance might be over, as Checo struggled and finished in P8, unable to make an impact throughout the weekend. Other teams have made significant strides to challenge Verstappen at the front.
