Starmer: UK Fuel Bills Capped, No Shortage

On April 1st, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is holding a press conference today to calm

fears over the Middle East crisis hitting British wallets.

With Iran blocking the strait of Hormuz, where about a fifth of global oil flows, fuel

prices are spiking hard.

Starmer plans to stress that energy bills they cap low for the next three months, and

there's no fuel shortage right now.

Business Secretary Peter Kyle hit the airwaves, saying the supply chain is solid, no issues

on critical fuel or infrastructure.

But Trump's been blasting the UK on social media, telling countries like Britain that

skip strikes on Iran to secure the strait themselves, or buy.

American oil, he's swinging between predicting a quick war end, and threats of more escalation.

Folks are feeling the pinch at the pumps.

Diesel now averages 182.8 pence per liter, up 40 pence since the conflict, kicked off.

That means over 100 pounds to fill a 55 liter family diesel car, the first time since

December 2022.

Petrols of 20 pence to 153.8 pence.

Government insiders want public advice on cutting fuel use, like from the international

energy agency.

Chancellor Rachel Rees ruled out fuel duty cuts, saying help goes to poor homes, not middle

earners.

Energy bills drop 7% this week, or 117 pounds a year, to 1,641 pounds under the cap.

Meanwhile, analysts predicted jump to 1,929 pounds by July, up 18%.

Starmer's pushing allies for de-escalation to reopen the strait in these costs.

That's the real play to shield families long term.
