That first sip of coffee can remind us to slow down and be present. In this episode, we talk about the difference between being busy and being truly productive. Instead of filling your calendar with endless tasks, learn how to focus on the things that actually move the needle in your life and work.
Welcome to the Daily Energized Podcast, your quick dose of clarity, quick tips, and the
spark you need to shine bright.
Here's your host, Spencer Jones.
Man, oh man, that coffee hits this morning.
Ah, so, so good.
Now I don't know if you drink coffee or tea or none of that, but whatever you do, hopefully
you are savoring what you are drinking, and I don't know, for me, there's something special
about that morning coffee, those first couple sips.
Oh, it's just, it just makes me so happy.
I love those moments, so thank you for letting me enjoy those and share that with you, at
least right as we started this, I invite you, if you are whatever time of day you're
listening to, just pause for a moment, whatever you're drinking at this time, I invite you
to take a sip and just be present with it.
Notice the taste, you know, the flavor that it has, is it hot, is it cold, and no judgment,
but just enjoy it, it's savor, I'll give you a moment here, so take a moment and take
a sip and just relish that.
Awesome, I hope you are able to really enjoy it.
Taking moments like that is such an important part of living, because it's so easy to get
caught up in the constant go, go, go, go, go of life, and you've heard me say all of this
before, this is not rocket science, this isn't anything new, you've heard it from me, you've
probably heard it from many other people before, but let's take just time, let's take
a little bit of time to slow down to enjoy the moment, and that actually, unintentionally,
that makes a perfect segue into today's topic, which is stop being busy, stop being busy,
because busy is just busyness, it's not helping you necessarily be at the best, it just
makes you fill up your calendar and feel like you're being productive, makes you feel
like, well, I'm doing all these things, but are they the things that are really truly
moving the needle, moving the needle with your business or job, moving the needle with
you personally, moving the needle for you to be an experienced life as a person you want
to be of making those dreams, those goals, those realities, that life true.
So as we kick off this week, I invite you to take some time and just ask yourself, am
I busy or am I productive, am I busy or am I productive, so busyness means you're usually
for me, it means I have a thousand things going on, a lot of times at once, it feels like,
or I have appointments and my calendar is super full, I'm just on to the next thing, I'm
on to the next thing.
And some of those things move the needle, but not all of them.
When I'm productive, that means I'm generally focused on one thing and I'm focused on things
that are making a difference within the business, with our impact and within myself.
So even when we look at being productive for me, that could look like, and it has looked
like, especially lately, last couple of months, it has looked like me sipping that coffee
and just savoring it in the moment.
Being productive looks like setting a timer and focusing on one thing for, you know, 25,
30 minutes, we just sit down, head down and focus on that one thing until it's done
or until the timer's up.
Sometimes it's, hey, I'm going to go build Legos and put those things together and have
some fun and just watch a TV show.
Sometimes it's reading a book for fun or a personal growth book or a business book
or whatever.
It's not always, oh, I need to make these calls, have these connections, do XYZ.
Yes, some of the times that we need to do those things and those things can be productive,
but oftentimes, those things can just be busy work and things that, mmm, aren't necessarily
needed at this moment.
No, I'm not saying to save it for the last minute till it's a pressing need, but I invite
you to take some time today and this week to look at what you're doing.
Look at your schedule and say, okay, am I just busy or am I productive?
And if you find yourself being productive, yay, celebrate that, that's awesome.
Like, all right, I'm doing good, productive things, beautiful.
If you find yourself just being busy, don't beat yourself up over it.
But ask yourself, well, how can I change this into something productive?
Do I need to stop doing this and do I need to do something else?
And adjust accordingly.
Now remember, being productive doesn't mean you're constantly moving, always doing this
thing.
Sometimes being productive is doing nothing and just relaxing.
Your brain and nervous system calm down, relax and not be in the constant fight flight
stressful stage that it's in oftentimes.
So just be aware and adjust as you see fit.
You got this.
So let's go make this week an incredible week.
