Streeting's NHS Intensive Recovery: Tough Measures for Failing Trusts

On March 25th, Health Secretary Westreeding is rolling out tough new measures to fix

failing parts of the National Health Service.

Under the plans, underperforming trusts could get merged or split up, and their bosses

might even get fired.

He's launching an NHS intensive recovery program to target chronic problems head on.

In a speech today in East London, Shreeding emitted the health service has put up with

failure for way too long.

He wants to stamp out what he calls a sense of fatalism, where people think things just

can improve.

Staff are being told to stop ignoring poor performance, as high achieving trusts have

been hiding the worst issues.

Patients and struggling areas have felt neglected for years with no real progress in sight.

The program will parachute inexperienced leaders from top performing trusts to sort out financial

messes and service gaps.

It kicks off next month, starting with North Cumbria, Integrated Care NHS Foundation

Trust, Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, Whole University.

Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Northern Lincolnshire, and GOOL NHS Foundation Trust, and East

Kent Hospitals NHS Trust.

These steps promise real change for the patients suffering the most, finally breaking the

cycle of tolerated underperformance across the country.
