Its April 29th, Anchorage News Today starts now, AI-powered and ready.
Drivers in South Central Alaska got until this Friday to remove their studded snow tires
from most vehicles.
State law bans them on paved roads north of 60 degrees north latitude, from May 1st
through September 15th.
South of Ninalchik, right at 60 degrees latitude, folks had to ditch them by April 15th already.
Cops can hit you with citations if caught rolling on studs out of season, like a $50 fine
per tire in Anchorage.
Those tires chew up dry pavement, bad costing the state up to $13 million a year in road repairs.
No new extensions on the deadline this time around.
In Anchorage, you can slap them back on starting October 1st when snow hits.
To swap those tires before the weekend rush, keep the road smooth and your wallet full.
