It's another Tuesday night edition of Sunday Night CrossFit Talk.
We heard it. Welcome to Sunday Sunday Sunday Night CrossFit Talk on a Tuesday. You better be careful. We may be making a new theme song for Tuesdays. This is better not be a routine. I know I prefer Sundays for sure. Yeah. Just the holiday got us out of whack this week. So that whole like on a Tuesday, Rich Eisen and his show does this thing called overreaction, overreaction Monday. And sometimes like it bleeds over to Tuesday. And so they still play the same theme song for overreaction Monday. And at the end they go on a Tuesday. I love it. So I stole it from him. Yeah. Don't forget to like and subscribe people like and subscribe to the channel. We need that. It helps the algorithm, especially when we're moving around throughout the week. People need to know where we are and the more you do that.
Test had our ice cream ready and everything for Sunday night cross. What kind of ice cream? We mentioned that we were going on Tuesday last week. We did. We took through it out there that it was. We didn't confirm I guess we could have been a little better with that. What was I had something in my head and it just totally went away. Oh, well, that's the way it is. That's what it is on this thing. We're here on Tuesday night. Labor day. Hope everybody had a great long weekend. If you celebrate Labor Day, it's a big important day to me. I mentioned it yesterday. My lunch show. My dad was a laborer for 45 years. And so Labor Day is very special in my heart because I lost my dad five years ago. And I still miss him to death. And he was such a hardworking dude. And so happy Labor Day. Happy related Labor Day to everybody.
Thank you for joining us tonight. But before we jump into too much stuff, don't forget to get your third Z. So you have a nice good recovery this week. They have a new flavor that just came out. Just straight up chocolate. Straight up chocolate. And I know some people tried to order it over the weekend and the Jazzy code didn't work. That has been rectified as of this morning. So now you can use. She has yet to check out and get 15% off your chocolate, sleep and recovery tool. As well as strawberry lemonade is always in stock. I will be curious. Will people like mix that with milk or still like hot water and have it as. I always did it with hot water. I do my. I never did it with. I've never done it with like what did you do with milk? No, I do the salt com or hot water because I like hot water. It basically tastes like just nice little sweet hot warm drink.
I get particularly in the winter time when you're a little cold and feel like you're hot drink at night. For sure, but I could see the. I do the milk. Yeah, I could see it being chocolate. You could and you could have it cold. Like if it's no warm and you want to. So I did the salty caramel chocolate milk, both hot and cold. Okay. I've not tried the chocolate. I just got a bag. And so I'll probably try it tonight. Well, let you guys know. I could yell doesn't want to straight up chocolate. You want to see curved down chocolate. That's not out yet. It's opposite of straight straight up chocolate that I said. And Tessa had a combo of Halo top and rebel. I don't know what rebel is. It's Halo top in a different container with a different name. Here's my thing with ice cream.
There are things that I'm willing to like compromise on ice cream isn't one. And I've just learned that. But if I just allow myself one medium twist cone a week and sometimes I don't even get that. But just one a week. I just want the full on thing. I don't want the Halo top version or the low sugar low carb. I just want one good ice cream cone a week. That's it. I don't mind the Halo top, but I don't. I don't eat ice cream very often. I don't mind it, but it's not like if I'm going to. It's like non alcoholic beer. Yeah. You know, like if I'm going to have a beer, I'm going to have a beer, which I have not had one in a very long time. But if if I'm going to. I don't. If I'm going to have non alcoholic anything, there are better tasting beverages than the flavor of beer.
I'll just have the better tasting beverage. Are you a Ben and Jerry's guys? I really wasn't. I don't know if I've had Ben and Jerry's more than five times in my life. We have a couple homemade ice cream places here in town. We have graders, which is Oprah's favorite ice cream. And she shared on her. Big things I like, whatever show that she used to do. And then we have a place called handles out of youngstown that makes homemade ice cream. But I prefer soft serve. And soft serve ice cream places are dying. It used to be there are tasty freezes everywhere where you could just go up and get a soft serve. And dairy queen is not my favorite. So that's the only like chain of that. But we have a place that is in the neighboring town 10 miles away. And we're here.
Julie and I go to the lake on a Sunday with the dog. And then we go from the lake to the tweet tasty freeze in the neighboring town. But Julie's been gone for the last two weekends. So I haven't even got ice cream in two weeks. Does that mean you're still behind on your shows? So you can't watch anything without her. I can there's she let me watch lanterns. But that's it. I watched one reach her last night. I watched one Ted last the last night. And I watched one lioness last night. I watched both. So I need to catch up on all I'm still one episode behind on all of them. So yeah, I. Yeah, Julie and I watched those together. And she was. I mean, she was in the middle of Pennsylvania. I wasn't going to say anything. And so yeah. KDL finished reach her season three last night.
But I thought I was behind. Yeah. This season is even crazier than every other season. And way more graphic. Yeah. The guy in the head and the prison bars. Yeah. me almost want to throw up. So yeah, I don't want to give anything away. So I watched movies the whole time Julie was away. If you have not seen in the gray with Jake Gillin Hall and Henry Caviel, stupid in this movie. If you like action, it's it's great. I didn't like Duffy. God season three. I don't even remember who Duffy was. She was the like woman cat or whatever. Okay, it's been a while.
She was hit like the you know, there's always one girl you get involved with. It was her. Season three. Yeah. Okay. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I got it now. Got it. I think this season of Reacher is the best so far loving it. Shelly Young. I'm loving it too. I think it is probably the best season because you don't know what's happening next. Yeah. Like every time you think you've got it pegged, it it pivots. I haven't watched a single episode of whatever you never tell you got to watch it. It's good. I don't really watch many series stuff at all. It's only like eight episodes a season or something like that. So it doesn't take long to get through them. I prime prime. So, yeah, it's getting involved with equals smashed. Yeah.
There's always one every episode. He picked the wrong one this year. Because, well, I don't want it. That's a spoiler. Anyway, there's all that. I saw that Jamie, you participated in the Hiller Challenge. Pop-up Challenge. What was that like? What's fine? That's the first time I've done it. So how long that take you? I've 38. Are you basically just going the whole time or like your rest is like maybe stopping the rings or like how did you get all? You're a talker. No, I only talk like three times. Oh, you rested during the talk. I watch. Whatever. I watch you. You are a notorious shot with one rep to go. You talk. Oh, my God. You see that you see rap 29. Yeah, it looked 29 look like I didn't know if you're going to get it or not.
Right. So I was like, well, I'm not going to just jump up there and do that again. No, I actually, I actually got the like, talk the scripts and spent a year of like not even touching talk. We have been friends for four years now almost. Do you know how many times you stop and chalk on the last rep and it like my insides flip? You sent me a video. I think it was not like this year, but last year of a workout. I think it was a kettlebell one that we had. Oh, yeah. We're toast of ours. And like you walked over to a bucket and you were the slowest chocolate. And that was the first time I think you sent me a video. I was like, Jamie, you don't need to talk this much. So I just assume now that you're just always making a shot. She's a chocolate. I'm actually not, but it's a good excuse for a rest break. It depends. It totally depends on what I'm doing. If it's
like just to work out with photo bar, I don't really talk. Mark Phillips says you always rip on the last last rep smart move. I have ripped the last few times I've done a lot like 30 ring muscle ups. I've ripped in the last five. I mean, I ripped at brush post right before the game, doing ring muscle ups like lately. I've been tearing there. I'd have to tell this. Part of that challenge was that you're breathing your triceps, your pull, close your limiting factor. Press. It wasn't her breathing. No. Like she never, she kept pace other than the chalk. Yeah, I don't, I mean, I could go a little faster. I don't really know that I could go much faster. What was the waiting time? 440. Well, I don't know what the men got, but I think Ariel got like 440. Okay. I do have to tell this one story about Jamie because the first time we ever met in person, I went up to Michigan to film her for a documentary
of her. Was it quarter finals then? I think so. Yeah. And in the middle of a workout, she literally stopped and sat down on the floor on the floor. Like I thought she had to give up. I didn't even know what to film at that point. And then all of a sudden, like she pops back up and keeps going. I was like, you just rest on the floor in the middle of a workout. Not duller than that. I'm pretty sure like at North Carolina, I sit on the weights like half, like I think on my rope in my throat, my rope qualifier. Like after my deadlifts, I just like sat on the weights before the front squat a little bit in the middle workout, like Lucas Parker just sitting on the weights throw back the Canadian. Marx says that's some J.Y. move there. Yeah, kind of. Yeah, he does it. I haven't seen you do that. Maybe one other time since. Oh, no, I did it in that at MFC in that
barbell workout. I hated that workout. It was like, I don't know, I think it was back squat, front squat, overhead squat mixed with it was the one that I beat Corian by like one rep. Yeah. I didn't want extra overhead squat. Now every finish you flop to the ground. Yeah. That's like your signature move. Yeah. It's like a touchdown celebration for an NFL player. You just, you go to the flop to the ground. Did you do that workout in 2013, Carolyn? What was it? I started crossing 2013. Oh, so you weren't at some of my, uh, regionals? No, my first regional was 2014. Like the, uh, it was, it was a two part workout. You had seven minutes. You had to start it like there was like specific starting weights. It was three rep over a squat and you could only go up by five pounds. So if you start at 125, you do, you could, you know, you had seven minutes. So you could do 125, 135, 135,
till you till time. And at the nine minute market, it starts the burpee, the 30 burpee ring muscle ups. Yeah, I start crossing after that, but I know what you're talking about because I just watched Hillers thing today. Yeah, that what yeah, hold on it. I mean, I feel like that's kind of why he threw it out there because he was having this Heidi girl do it and he did it. So yeah, and I see him was Sam Briggs was 519 back in 2013. I feel like I could get that. But that's that would just still been the winning time on this pop up contest. Foggy. I know you're real. Ariel got it. Oh, she did. Yeah. Okay. Well, let's talk about the Hiller video since you brought it up because I think that is exactly what's been missing in the space. And if people haven't seen it, I'm going to I, if you've not seen this video, it is this one. Heidi Kuhnow, I think it's how she pronounced it.
It's called Next Generation Fit. It's on the Hiller YouTube channel. Um, it is outstanding. And it's outstanding because of this. It is looking at media from a proactive view as opposed to a reactive view. This is a young up and coming athlete that Hiller went and filmed with for a day or two. I don't know what it was. And had her do a not 2013 workout that Jamie and Carolyn just talked about. And that her goals are to make the CrossFit Games. She finished 86th in semi finals last year. But this is why like drive to survive and full swing. And all of those are successful because it gets you to know the players in the game before you watch the game. When we're reacting to the people who win and who that who are getting to the games already,
most of us already know who those people are. This like I've never met, I've never seen this girl perform ever. And now I want to watch her. I want to see if she makes it. It's a storyline that's been created because someone was proactive with their media. And we tried to do that for years with the semi final interviews. But I was so small at the time. I agree. And I actually think that's what made things so much more exciting for me. Like was getting to know some of these newbie athletes coming into semis watching them at semis. Seeing like what they're great at. You know, they oh, there's always like Hannah Black. Like no one really knew her. The interviewer went and watched her. You watch her just blow something out of the park. And you're like, that's that's her dance. Yeah. Yeah. Tessa said it was awesome. KDL, it was what wrote to the game should be. And it's relatable to young athletes. Wrote to the games used to be proactive. You know, there are people
that were featured in wrote to the games that never made the games. And because of that, like I still remember who Tia Wright is, even though she never made the games. That's the first person I came to my mind too. It's just thinking to my head, I'm like, there's blonde girl. I can't think of her name right now. You just said it. Yep. Right. Because I after that interview, and then she was on the CrossFit podcast with her mom who worked out, like I know that story. And I rooted for her after that. And even though she didn't make the games, like I still know where today. And that's what's been missing forever in this space. And I'm so glad that Hiller took the opportunity to take a gamble to do this because a lot of times when you do this and nobody knows the name, nobody's, it clicks the the start button. Is she in the Chicago area where he lives or he went to? She's in Wisconsin. That's why she
want that's why she like Lydia Fish as well. Correct. Okay. This is this is where he went during WFB. So my, my hope is she says she wants to work out with Lydia. I'm hoping that this is the connection. And the episode two of this story is the two of them working out. She did say it kind of far from Lydia. You can take a weekend. If this is your goal and you want to be the best, you'll take a weekend to go work out with Lydia Fish. I mean, to be fair, there might be athletes that are closer. True, but if Lydia fishes her hero, that's why you go. And the Hiller has a connection with Lydia. It just makes sense in my head, but I get what you're saying. Okay. The bill, they he thing was different. Because bill, they he was massacred for not following
the rules ever in online competition and got bashed by Hiller for years until they met at Crash Crucible and they talked it out live on video. And that's what turned it around. And it was still proactive in a way, but it happened almost accidentally. This had more of a plan behind it. He was definitely already semi final level. Yeah. Well, he would he would kill online and then always either not show up or get hurt at semis. And everybody was like, oh, he's just just. And then he would always get his videos dinged for not following the rules. Most of us didn't know follow until Hiller profiler. I knew follow because she fell apart at the end of semi finals and it was hard to watch. So hard to watch.
But yeah, I just wanted to point that out. And if you just because you don't know who this person is, it's still worth the watch. And while this is a great step for media, we as consumers need to go like it, go share it, go do all those things so that more of this happens in the space. I mean, it's what five, six hours in and it's got it's got a lot of you. It was 25,000 maybe. Uh, yeah, I have it. I've had it up for a little bit, but it's 22,700 right now. So yeah. The Hiller's been killing the videos really last month or so. Like from the games like some like Amy Crangle stuff, they had like didn't have like a million views or something. Oh, that doesn't surprise me. He released that right right after the games. And then he went and then he didn't release anything for a month. So everyone's like scrambling to watch. Couldn't have been, I mean, this is a fast case scenario for this Heidi because people have been begging for him to
come back. So they're going to watch whatever he puts out. Yeah, it's good stuff. So go check it out. Carolyn, did you know Tim Paulson came from hockey to hockey players? No hockey. I didn't like know him when I was playing, but I knew that he was a hockey player. He did say good things about your hockey playing ability today on Savon. Oh, he was on. Yeah, they were talking about like all the athletes that had hockey backgrounds. Yeah. Who else has hockey back? I'm not really a page. Well, that had to bring up page seven corner. Yeah, I think someone did. I heard it. So I'm going to the chat bring up Sam Paul, Paul, Tron, but what it what actually started was Savon goes, I think you're the only person that's played hockey and made it to the games. And then like Tim was like, what about Carolyn Prevo? And he goes, she was way better hockey
player than I was and even played at the pro level. And so he it was a nice shout out for you. Just just to let you know. Yeah, not Tim. I know he played D1 and then don't know. I don't think he played after that. I think he went a little crossfit. Yeah, he he bought a box while he was in college. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Basically the Canadians. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, not wrong. Every time I hear like Canadians and hockey, all I can think of is the movie Mystery Alaska, where they skated to and from school and to the easiest way to get around. So you just got good on skates. Yeah.
What was now? Oh, I wanted to say so. This is on the catch up part. So I started playing drums and you guys told you guys that. Do you know what's a wild thing that has come from it? My step count has increased dramatically because of like the kick drum. It's like your hands. It's the hands and the feet hitting the drum pedals. Yeah. My step count has gone way up. What is it at now? So you're saying your average one up this week? Yeah, it did. Like my watch is like your activity has gone way up. And I'm having so much fun with it. So much fun. Are you learning through YouTube? So there's so the drum kit I got came with three months free of drummyo, which is an online teaching software. And it's been great. Like I just have like my iPad beside me. And I put the video on and you play along. And because it's an electronic drum kit,
I can Bluetooth to the iPad. And the instructor and my drums are all playing in my ears at the same time. So I can hear him play me play and his instruction. And I know that like, if I'm off beat, I can hear it because I'm not playing with him. Which has has been a great teaching tool. And I'm already doing fills around the whole drum kit. The practice before your wife came back home so that all of the random noises were basically done with. So when my wife wasn't home, I plugged my guitar amp into it so I could hear it out loud and like really crash it and do things. Now they warned you shouldn't do that because the bass drum is so deep and it can blow the speaker out of a guitar amp. So I probably won't do that too many times, but it was cool to kind of hear it all out.
Did you, Scott? Did you watch Travis Barker doc? I did. I watched it this weekend. One of the best documentaries I've ever seen. What that dude went through. If you don't know, he is the drummer for Blink when A2. He was in a plane crash. He 65% of his body was burned. He lost all of his friends. And somehow survived and is killing it on the other side of that accident. It's a really cool, cool watch. But the crazy thing is the human body. He was taking so many pain killers before that as because he had anxiety about flying and a bunch of other stuff that they had to dope him so much in the hospital that he hated it. And he went cold turkey after and as not touch drugs after. It's a great, great, great documentary. But the problem, the only bad part is you sing
Blink when A2 for the next three days. I like Blink when A2 growing up. That was one of, I think that was maybe my second answer to everyone too. Yeah, and they, the members of Blink when A2 are in it as well. And like every famous drummer is in the documentary. And they even talk about like Blink when A2 breaking up and then getting back together and other things that the band went through. So yeah, it's really good. I think Tessa's the one that recommended it to me. And I thank you so much for the recommendation. It was well worth it. All right, let's get into the real stuff. Carolyn is now officially officially official going to Rogue. But it was announced by Rogue that her video submission was accepted.
And there she is listed on the female qualifiers. Carolyn Prevo along with Emmett Hall and Jennifer Mjure. Jen's from Scotland, right? She's in, she is either UK or somewhere in that area. She wrote in her story that this is the biggest accomplishment of her career. So over, you know, the games. So I feel like she's, I didn't look at she's from Scotland, but that's got to be really cool. She gets to compete there, begin with her home crowd and stuff. And then on the men's side, Fabian Hermann's Nate Akramin, Chris Ibarra and Bailey Martin. Big, big win for Nate Akramin. And I mean, Andy Ibarra. And Ibarra. That's all right. Because both of them missed the games this year, correct? Yeah. But Ibarra, Ibarra has been to events like this is the first big, big event Nate has qualified for. Which is huge for him.
Was Fabian, Fabian there last year? I don't know. He's lost the qualifier. He did. I saw some comments about that rogue has set like the precedence that you better be on your P's and Q's when it comes to video submission. And because of that, they had less penalties this year than in years past because everybody knows we have to do it right or we're going to get dinged. Yeah, I think for like a few years, people will be like, oh, yeah, I forgot. I forgot, you know, by this time now, it's been like five years that they've done basically, well, since 2019, that they've done the qualifier. So if you don't know the way your weights are to really read the rules, then that's on you. And to meet all standards, like they are sticklers for all of that. Yeah, kind of like if you miss a rep and around, your workout is done there.
Doesn't matter if you go back to like that number, I feel like you missed the rep. That's it. This don't count. Go to the next video. So should CrossFit take a cue from this and say, look, look what happens when we set a precedence. And this can be what happens or is it is rogue just smaller and easier to do that with? I don't think CrossFit has the bandwidth to do that. And look at how few people signed up for rogue qualifier because probably of, you know, the weighing, all the equipment. And I mean, I could just speak to the work. There's not that many places. So I think I'm feeling the workouts were good, but I think you did almost like an in between. Yeah, yeah, I wish there was some way to like figure it out. But I've harped on this for years.
I don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon. But rogue does have a smaller team, but they're not getting the thousands or hundreds of thousands of signups for their competitions. You know, they they may at a good year get 100 qualifiers. I do it. Yeah, because last year, they only took one spot. Yeah. Like, and that probably deterred a lot of people because they didn't announce how many they were taking this year. So the qualifier is already underway. Yeah. And all that I had seen it in a comment. Someone at asset company spots to see it and they wrote three. So then I saw it and I was like, OK, three, I'm like, I saw the workouts. I was like, OK, I think I can give these a go. See what happens and on the good end of the three. Did you see they put up the, um, the current payout for athletes? I didn't ask you that. Yeah. So I think the lowest you can make it rogue is like 5,800, something like that.
Uh, where the top end is well over 100 grand and it's it doesn't it doesn't come off a cliff like the games. Yeah, because the first place is just a little bit under the games. But the second place is above second place of the games. So I don't get when people are like, oh, I'm not peaked. Whatever this comp like, bullshit. Like you need to peak for a road. Like you can win more money there than you will in the games. Which I don't, you know, I think that's a lot of talk that people do often. I'm trying to fund it real quick while you guys are talking. But yeah, so let's grab over to Neifer, money for the top end people anyways. To try to get that big large cash money. Plus the trip is paid for too. They pay six night total and then they give a travel stipend for your flight. In the past, like North Americans had a certain amount and then you're you're international.
Just here. International had a little bit more because they were coming to the states. And then I don't know now because I haven't competed that road in this in Europe. I'm assuming North American would have a little bit more travel stipend than other places. But yeah, I mean, that's what more can you ask for when the trip is paid for and you don't have to think about all that and then you just get to compete. I cannot find where I saw it now. Oh well. It looked like it was pretty good. They always pay out well and they do the travel. And when you have no expense to get there and you get, well, not no expense, but a stipend to get there and a great payout. That's pretty awesome. Oh, Brainer. Yeah. In the slide to fill out like a registry, not registraries, but like some sort of like form.
And that's where my measurement from my belly button to my knee. So I already know what that's for. Another tilt, a tilt. My kilt. Can't wait. I'm measuring correctly. Sorry. I'm looking something up. But they always have such cool, unique, like little giveaways, like every single year. They had the baseball jerseys, they had the guitar. They had the, I think they did golf sets maybe last year or golf club or something. Yeah, I'll be anxious to know what the what the toy is this year. Yeah. And like, I don't know if if it's the kilt is just for if you haven't been there before. And that is, that is what it is. Yeah, because the athletes that already have it, I think they just maybe help to bring it or that is what I was told last year. If you already had your kill, you were just told to bring it. Um, and then if you didn't have one, they make one for you for that year. Because like,
it's like a special thread based on a ancestry, all kinds of stuff like that. So yeah, that's awesome. I test once know what Katie's like at Rogue. She's nice. I mean, yeah, she's often, you know, pen and paper when I'm there, taking out, taking down my splits. Every, every interaction I've had with Katie is completely friendly, but all business, all business. And cares a lot, a lot about the experience for the athletes. Um, yeah, that's like their big thing is they want the athletes to be showcased. They want their equipment obviously to be showcased, but cares a lot about the competition. In general, wants to get it right. Like every aspect of it. And yeah, hardworking always on the floor. Super busy all the time. The only time she has not been personal too. The only time she hasn't been all business with me is when she dogs me about Penn State because
she loves Ohio State. I get the odd text from her whenever Ohio's playing Wisconsin for hockey or I'll I get her back sometimes. So yeah, that's the only she loves her Ohio State buck guys. Like her name is in the rafters. She is a commentator for the women's basketball team. Um, I think that's her like her stress relief from the Rogue business. For sure. Uh, does she BS with the athletes? Um, I wouldn't say anything she does is BS with people. She when she is there in an event, it is literally about everything in the setup of that event. She'll be cordial, cordial, but not like just stop and BS. What does a lot like what David is like? Like she's more cordial than Dave. Like Dave. Like Dave is very friendly.
It's different. I don't know how to describe it. I mean, I think he cares deeply about the like how that plays out on the floor and he is. That's that's what he's doing is out there on the floor watching every piece move. Just like Katie would. Yeah, from two different ways like she would have a different role at the games than she will for the role of the rotational. So because she plays a part in the programming for Rogue alongside. I mean, if it hasn't changed then, you know, spieler, Josh, her. I think it's done the last few years. Many years ago, Mayhem also programmed. I think they went back to their little group. I'm assuming it's them again, but yeah, I mean, she cares about the work out because they put so much on the line money-wise. Like they don't they're not claiming to be the fittest competition at all. They have their own
style, but they still want it to be a good fitness competition because of the amount of money that's on the line. So they don't want to completely wreck the athletes and or like make it so skewed to a certain way. Does Bill walk around to or see behind the scenes? If you can find Bill talking to at all, you have seen a rare animal. The only time I've ever seen Bill talk is my best friend did a commercial with Rogue because he at the time he was a crane operator and they were doing like how, you know, the the the laborers and all of that are also Rogueeth or like work out in gyms and stuff. So they filmed him on the job and then filmed him in a thing. And every time I'm with him and Bill is around, he goes, there's my guy and he'll run over and like hug my best friend and then he goes off and does this thing again.
Bill is a lot more involved than the strong man side of things at Rogue. So he harder. I don't know. I think he programs alongside, there's just one guy like Pitch's idea. I think he's an extra man guy. Martin or Mark, no, no. Someone, but he's very involved in the strong man side and Katie takes care more of the crossfit side of things. So I don't see Bill as much, but he's always busy and working hard. Magnus Von Magnuson. Yeah, he's always at Rogue with him. Jerry, that's what I had in mind. Jerry. Oh, Jerry. Okay. Yeah, he's always there too. Yeah, Magnus is the head judge generally. Jerry's on the broadcast. Have they announced the events this year so far for the strong man? No, I haven't seen him. Okay. I was just on there. No, because I'm assuming they would know already right now what events they're planning for. Yes, strong and no, well, advanced.
Well, they usually have one big apparatus of some sort that's either new or so yeah. I'd like to know what those are to see if there's any workouts that I can see if there's any themes that could get moved to the crossfit side. One piece of sad news I did want to share with you guys tonight is a master's athlete who was a nine time master's athlete at the games. I passed away from cancer. She was fighting a long battle. Her name is Linda Nustum. I gotta go to my notes. Linda Elston. Linda Elston. That's a picture of her. She is friends with our Shana Bunts who is in the comments. Shana, let me know that
she fought and fought and fought and lost the battle today and wanted to make sure that people knew she's a nine time games athlete. She loved the sport. She loved crossfit and fought the courageous battle but gave into it today. So thoughts and prayers to her, her family and everything there. So she was the same to the edge. They were in the same division. Yeah, her last game's appearance was then 55 to 59 and I think Shana was in that division at that point. Her last game's appearance was 23 or I believe. Yeah. So now let's talk about the service cup on the show we actually have the last year's champion
of the CrossFit Service Cup. Can I just say Carolyn Prevo's had a hell of a year. The last 365 days have been pretty awesome for Carolyn Prevo. Service Cup winner, master's games winner, Rogue Qualifier, WFP participant, go into the finals of WFP. Damn. That's been busy. I'm looking at the days off. I'm going to have to take a work and I'm like, today was my first day of ethics. Students came back today. So service cup. The online version of the competition starts in like on September 14th. Goes to the 21st. There are divisions for everyone. There is a division now for first responder supporter. So if you just want to be a supporter, you can do the workouts as well.
It doesn't mean that you get to go to Mehem at the end of the year to compete because that is reserved for teachers. Military. Yeah, police medical. Medical's in that too. Yeah. So it's police, fire medical teachers. And military. Yeah. Yeah. So the there's four workouts. This one looks, yeah. Remind me of the open workout. Yeah. But it was like a 50 box on board was Med Ball Stepovers, a lot of burpee box on board was to finish like that 50 to finish is raw. Yes. So all of these were and like this one, if you notice, the woman are going to attend foot
target here. Same as the men. So these workouts, you have to do it as prescribed. I'm going to program it for the affiliate that I try not cross it called CM. But we'll give them scale versions of these. They just can't sign up unless they do. That's a lot of wall box. Yes, it is. So I wanted when I saw this at first, the 50 medicine ball box step overs, we talked about it, the games running with the Med Ball. Is that different than box overs with a Med Ball? I mean, I held mine like this in the open. Some people held it here or here. So it's definitely way different than running. It's for sure. It's much easier. I would say because in the run, you almost have to go like this so that you can use your other arm, which then put to here, you don't have to put it here on the
box step overs, I guess. But yeah, this one just screams. Joey Perez looking forward to this one, the least. Yeah. Mark, I had zero fun with Med Ball Stepovers. If I remember correctly, Mark Phillips is not a tall athlete. So then we go to work out two. It's as many reps as possible in eight minutes of 50 foot back rack lunge, 25 pull ups, 50 foot front rack lunge, 25 chest to bar pull ups, 50 foot overhead lunge, max bar muscle ups. I think they missed on this one. I think a lot of affiliates and I want a program it for my affiliate. A lot of affiliates cannot do a barbell, overhead walking lunge, front rack walking lunge with multiple people doing the workout, like spacing wise. This is not smart to put in an online competition. We did it in 2016, 2016 point one. I think it was
with like Burby's chest of ours and stuff like that. I think this is like annoying to do with a class. For sure, it's definitely not every win is like mayhem that can have all this space to do front rack and stuff like I don't know a lot of times we have to just do you know for 50 foot, let's say 16 on the spot. Yeah, that's what we'll do. I mean, if I was in a program this in class, I would just have them use dumbbells. I would just do farmer from yeah, I wish they didn't do a barbell here. I wish they just doesn't need to be the exact same though. Like this is fine. If you want to make this do it. If you want a program in it for class, you just use dumbbells. I think it's fine. No, I just think it's annoying because I got people want to still do the RX version. You know how it is. Yep. So you do dumbbells. Now that's grippy. Like that's not grippy with with chest of bars and you can relax your grip in this way or here like you can open your hand up.
Those change that like I'll just probably write in a notes like if space doesn't allow, you know, do a on the spot. Yeah, you know, 60 to 18 out of it. But go work out progresses in gymnastics. Progresses I think in difficulty of the lunge. You know, back rack being the easiest one front rack second and then overhead third one. So fun workout to do. I just think it's difficult to include in a lot of affiliates. Especially. Yeah, yeah, that's all. Peter Benoit that would be an outside ward garage not big enough. Enjoy presses the push up or pull up chest of bar bar muscle progression is getting stale. There are only so many movements though you can do in an online competition that can be judged.
Like you are kind of restricted. Yeah, we have to remember that. I don't mind it. Workouts 3a and 3b on a 15 minute clock four time. 10 shutter runs, 15 clean injurks, 10 shutter runs, 12 clean injurks, 10 shutter runs, 9 clean injurks, 10 shutter runs, 9 clean injurks, 1 shutter run is 25 feet down and 25 feet back. It's 15 12 9 9 on the clean injurks. And then at the 15 minute mark complete workout 3b in three minutes establish a 1 rep max clean jerk. Is it 135 95 135 for the workout? I'm hoping I haven't looked at all the standards yet. I'm hoping you can like load up second bar already ready.
Either a second bar or start warming up your lift before the 15 minute mark. Let's say I don't even know how long that's what I think. But let's say that takes you know sort of a time and I have plenty of time I can already begin and then at the three minute here comes my bigger lifts. Like I hope that you don't have to wait with the bar at 95 pounds for the three minutes because that's going to be like a huge jump and not fun to do. Yeah, you should be able to touch the bar before that 15 minute mark just not no lift counts or something. Yeah, which I'll assume that that's the case and that you can start warming up your clean injurks because I mean that first part won't take 15 minutes for a lot of people. They will for some. And then finally work out for for time 100 double unders. Carolyn's favorite 50
alternating dumbbell snatches 100 double unders. 35 50. That is a quick one. No room prayer or no. Now so Carolyn and on so we all know that double unders is your Achilles heel. And but when it's an online competition and you can repeat does that take some of the pressure off of it? No, not really. This volume should be okay for me. It's when I start getting in that above 300 a lot under a lot of shoulder fatigue. That's when my technique is here it's and just my bad habits are coming back. But this one I think should be okay. So once you're done these four workouts so for people don't know you have a side overall leaderboard for each of your
services. And then the winner of each of the divisions that are moving on gets to choose a partner from their respective division. And the finals is actually a partner competition not an individual competition. And you and your partner are trying to win let's say for the educators or military or whatnot. And you can pick anyone that has done the service cup. Now I don't know if you have to have done the open to sign up for the service cup. Do you know if you have to do the open or you can just sign up for the service cup. I've never seen any requirement for this because it's outside the season so I just assume no. Yeah because I mean I guess people could have started crossed it right now and not have done the open in this year. Or injured during the season and now they're fine. Yeah so I'm assuming it is. So anyone that wants to sign up then for it. And that finals takes place across at Mayhem. And last year it was super fun. They treated us
amazing. It was one of my favorite comps of the year that I did. We got like, winners these Yeti backpacks. They had prize money even for the podium. They had snacks for us really really well organized by Mayhem which I wouldn't expect any less because they're very professional. Super fun. So if you are in the service division take on those workouts, sign up and try to take down the educators. Are you going to do another comp? You can add that one again. I'm doing it next week. Wow. I don't know if if I were to qualify if I go to the finals yet. I don't know. I have decided that I won't do crash though. That's a lot. Too much in my first semester of teaching my four students with me. So good luck to Carolyn on that next week and we'll check in on her.
No, you can do it as a supporter. Oh yeah, yeah. There's like Crosser coaches are a division. You can't you don't move on to the finals but you can see where you stack up with the Crosser coaches. I don't have my own one. Why do you know? Well, not Crosser coach. I don't know if that's your requirement. I think it's just like fitness professional. I think I'm trying to think it's not even I don't even think it has to be Crosser coach. It's like Oh, I don't remember all the divisions. Well, I care. I'm looking that up. I'll move on to the next news item which is always Jamie's favorite topic to talk about. We had we had our first positive test from the CrossFit Games. Wayne O'Hara failed drug test after podium finished at the CrossFit Games.
He was second place at this year's CrossFit Games. Last year he was 18th. Now they're making a big deal of moving from 18th to second but he was in a different division last year. Yeah. And aged up to this division. So there are some reasonings behind why that jump may happen. Not and again, I said this is after not making excuses for the guy. He popped. He tested positive. He did the juice. And but 65 years old, look at those arms. Dang. A lot of them looked like that. I feel like that sort of the problem. Yeah, I mean, they only test the top three this year, I think. Yeah, I was surprised because it's been top one. Yeah, it's been five in the fifth plate. So this is Jim's age bracket. And when Jim was third, the fifth place man popped that same age bracket. I feel like this age bracket is
kind of notorious for it. And I feel like you need to test more than just the top three. Someone brought up on the lunch show today that if you fail a drug test, you should have to pay for it. Because you know, everybody talks about that it's expensive and we can't test more. Well, that's a way to recoup the funds. Signing agreement that if you're tested and you test positive, you have to pay for the test. It adds just one more thing that as a deterrent to not want to test positive. If you're going to have to pay a couple thousand for the test, I just don't think you're again that money back in that person after they get a four year ban and Mark is kind of the way I If it's a contract though, hey, first and you get refunded if you don't stop.
Here's a thing that's crazy to me. It ain't like the money in 65 to 69 is so good that it's worth. Like I'm sure these drugs aren't cheap. Like his investment in making the podium is way more than he'll ever recoup as an athlete. And but I mean, I feel like at that age, some of them are not even taking it in terms of their performance. It could just be further help at that point. And like, they're signing up for CrossFit because they like CrossFit and it sucks because that's that's what's going on, you know, for a lot of them. Like it doesn't even need to be about the money. It just could be like, their body is not what like was when there was younger. What did he pat for? Was it quartet, a strong? Yeah, I don't think the article actually said it that this been put out today because I think he got it from a source and not the official drop from CrossFit.
Joey Perez, I don't care if people get TRT or whatever if they feel like it improves in their life, but why sign up for a competition knowing damn well you're going to pop. I can't understand. I agree. If you're not competing, do all the drugs you want. I don't care. Feel like a million bucks. Look like look great on the beach. That's all you. But the minute you sign up for a competition, there are rules and you have to follow the rules. Exactly. Yes, that's what I think too. Do what you need to do for your health or whatever, but this is a drug free competition. We think this is the first of many. I don't know. It seems off a late to me. The games are under July. It's usually like two to three months is when we get the reports.
Five weeks. I would say we don't usually see them till like six weeks, so I might get some more in the next week too. Doesn't testosterone have to be pretty high to pop. I believe so. I feel like probably could have just been using a little bit to like be baseline and clearly he was blasting it. Yeah. I think it's your T count has to be over like 900 to pop. What can they can they can distinguish I don't think between natural testosterone and to call synthetic testosterone. No, not not with the tests they're using. For the because it would be very cost prohibitive to get anything. And I'm just I am just trying to repeat what I remember from what hiller said. Yeah. I don't please don't come at me. I am not a steroids expert. I am not a medical professional. I don't know any I'm just trying to repeat what
hiller said in a video one time where I think that you there are tests that can, but they would be very cost prohibitive in a in this niche sport environment that we're in. Will you better get Wayne on and ask him how much he was taken. Yeah. I have had people on who have popped before. Yeah, you know, and they talk and they talk about that you can use up to so much TRT and I am sure there are guys trying to ride that line. Yeah, that's why I feel like it's probably happening. And they're trying to get right under the line and some are miscalculating and because you can inject it you don't know what it's going to read in your body. I don't again, I am not an expert on it. I'm just assuming because I mean, I know people have taken TRT and the doctors get a reading to see how effective it
was, right? They don't know that hey, we inject you with this and your TRT is going to be your test on. It's going to be here. So I think people are gambling and trying to ride the line and some are miscalculating that. Just that I'm just baffled at the lack of character if they are doing this. I think the problem is especially in that 8th bracket, they just tell themselves that they're all doing it. Like they had to like what you're saying, Scott, I think they all tell themselves we're all on TRT. We're just trying like, yeah, I think that's the problem. Like the first like they're telling themselves that that's yes, that's the only way that they can compete is if they match up to everyone else that they're competing against. If you watch the Lance Armstrong documentary, that's what he told himself. He told himself the only way I win the Tour de France is to do the thing that they're doing. So you've heard someone say that phrase, you know that yeah, you know
guys are thinking that. Oh, for sure. And women are thinking that. I mean, you see it up like everyone says everywhere, especially about the masters are like all of those people are on here. So the athletes are going to start thinking everyone's on here. The expert has spoken. They run a T slash E ratio test. I think that's testosterone estrogen. I'm guessing ratio test. If the ratio is off, they run a secondary more expensive test to confirm. Like to me, like when I was here, people like how often they do like blood work, like to me, that's always like a red flag. I'm like, yeah, how about like, you know, even like young people, like young males that are just testing like blood work all the time. I'm like, do you really need that? Why do you know why you do know this blood test of your, you know, your stuff? Mark Phillips equals. I bet testosterone. I bet testosterone. See, that's how much little I know.
I thought I was going to be like, exhalation. Yeah, that's the word. Yeah. Um, about the blood work thing, like when I was with wild health, we did blood work all the time for health stuff. I guess you're taking stuff from Yeah, it's obvious. I'm on all. I'm testing my blood work. See you. Yeah, I'm sure you are testing that range. Like I just got into my head. Whether it's true or not, I don't know. But people are testing their blood all the time. I'm like, you have no reason to do that. Um, the last thing I have is as I've been rant about this all week, the missed opportunities for CrossFit and with, if you guys didn't see it, Patrick, gosh,
now I can't his name is a skim. No. Patrick Wilson, who stars in the show Cape Fear, does CrossFit. He actually brought CrossFit into the show. His character to relate, to do a release does CrossFit and they showed him doing cleans. And he was on an interview talking about why he picked cleans because all the reshoots and all the stuff and his form was impeccable, like which is very rare in celebrity scene, right? He was, he went to DC high rocks this week. CrossFit has done nothing to share the interview, done nothing to promote that he said this stuff. None of that stuff. Goes to DC high rocks this weekend. And before the weekend is over, high rocks has a compilation reel of his workout out to promote that he was there doing it. We know about the Tom Holland workout
that used to be called Cindy or the Spider-Man workout. We know that Will Plummer, or will, yeah, Will Plummer has been training Chippin Assie's racing team with CrossFit for a couple years. And they're just now doing a story about it two years after the fact. And then I got sent another thing by a prominent affiliate owner and coach in the space of a football player talking about how he uses CrossFit to stay in shape for the long grueling season. And it's not Tyson Begent. And none of this has been promoted by CrossFit. And I know Hiller saying they reached out to Tom Holland. I didn't see that in days we can review that they have made attempts. And not, but that is just one case. And they couldn't share a clip of a public interview that he did and give credit to whoever
did the interview. That doesn't happen all the time. So they like CrossFit Games' Instagram never reposted that little clip from him at the tennis. I think that tennis is saying that he did Cindy for training. Like CrossFit Games even used that. Because they could have used that. And then Coach said, tell the athletes like doing Cindy over the years and it's like, hey, if you want to do this workout, this is what it is or this background of it. You could take a compilation of people going, hey, I did the Spider-Man workout. I did the Spider-Man workout. And it comes on and goes, we call it Cindy. Boom. And it was Gerratton, give it, was derived from the CrossFit blah, blah, blah, as a girl workout. But there are ways you could use the stuff that's out there without contacting that individual. It took them a year plus to share one of Zlatan. I don't know how to pronounce his name. Soccer player. Like most followers of anybody
in the world and soccer. And he does CrossFit. It took him over a year to share one of his posts. What the hell is taking so long? Why are you not? Because you want to reach people outside of our algorithm. Right? And these are people that are like the guy that did the high rocks, Patrick, and I get them. I don't know Wilson has 800,000 followers on Instagram. Those are 8,000 people that probably aren't currently doing CrossFit. Tom Holland has millions of followers. Tag him in something. Maybe you get lucky and he contributes. Patrick Wilson did that with high rocks. They posted it. They asked him to collaborate and he did. I think right now CrossFit should lead into the high rocks that's getting really popular and
be like look at all of our athletes doing a lot of high rocks. These are how are they training for their high rocks? CrossFit. And just using that. I understand it's a great promotion but it doesn't go outside the algorithm of fitness. Like if you're trying to attract new people. But I think they need to reach outside of the fitness algorithm with these celebrities, with these football players, with these, anybody who's using it to stay in shape in their season, share a video, share, and maybe they collaborate and maybe you reach 800,000 people you never did before. A lot of celebrities will have their personal trainers train out of CrossFit. If you look at the background, you're like that's a CrossFit gym. Might not have the name CrossFit because they don't pay the affiliation fee but you're like yeah, there's the rings, there's the wall wall targets behind them.
Yeah. Jeremy says what do you think it is? I joke small team but what do you think makes this continue to happen? I believe that it's micro management. I believe that the leaders of CrossFit want to approve everything. So it has to go through 18 circles of approval to be released and everybody wants to have their say as to what it should look like. Well then it's not a small enough team in my opinion. There's just too many heads of department. That's a problem. Right. It's too many chiefs, not enough Indians. Yeah. Is the old saying right? A lot of people who want to show that they're important enough and have to have a say in it and not enough people doing the job. And I think that is all it. I think that I think while Jenna had great ideas, she had to get approval
from everybody to be able to release it. And it always like Tyson Bage and getting up to the podium and talking about he if he doesn't succeed in football, he's wants to be a CrossFit coach and get Jack to sell. Right. It took CrossFit four months to react to that. When everybody in the space that does any kind of media at all was sharing that post, even just die hard CrossFit. It's like this is cool. It's it has got to be the most aggravating thing to me right now because there are so many people sharing that they're using CrossFit and we're not telling us all. And the thing about Patrick Wilson is watch the high rocks video. His wall ball depth is awesome. Like he actually has great technique. He is meeting all the standards.
Tom Holland doing 27 rounds of Sydney. Not sure about that. Love to see that. Yeah. But he regardless he's using it. I'm just this is like my new Cross to bear in the CrossFit space because they have they have to do this. If they want to succeed at all, they have to. And if they don't, then they don't ever want to be more than what they are. Yeah. What are they currently working on in terms of story? It wasn't there like one or two stories that they're like it's going to come or something in a like in a YouTube video. They like post in like little maybe cod whites. Like one or two stories. But it just takes them so long to like post the story like they're like all stay tuned for like more of the video. And I think that they just
it doesn't take a full production team to make a story. I find that Reels that we post from competitions and stuff like that the less manipulated and the less additions you make to it and the less editing the better they do. Because people know it's real. With this world of AI, the more glitzy and glossy and everything it looks, the more people speculate that it's not real. So the fact that you have to have a full production team out to do any kind of story. And like we said at the top of the show, everything is reactive. Everything is so after the fact that its impact is lost. They put out that Tyson documentary, that short eight minute documentary, four months after the thing happened. And it lost its punch.
Life moves way too fast these days to sit around and wait. Because people are moving on to the next big thing. Spider-Man was the biggest movie in the world three weeks ago. In another week, nobody will, it'll be out on video and nobody will even be talking about it. My production team, Deep. I know. I know. And again, we showed the video that Hiller did. It would not the video, but we showed that he did it. Not trying to steal your views, Hiller. Go check it out. It's what CrossFit should be doing. Create the storylines. Don't sit back and wait for them to happen.
There are so many stories out there of people trying to make it. People didn't watch Rocky because he'd already won. I'm going to go to the next one. Steal them please. All right, guys, I'm whooped. This is my third show of the day. Jeremy, can I just say Michigan State? I get hurts my heart that you even had to ask that question. I love when Michigan State football is playing and I get to send Jamie texts. Help us for you with Michigan's missing second. I'm to the point where college football. I am so. Oh, it's. It's what it is.
I'm not the whole the whole state of college football, which we talked about a lot on Ye sports tonight. If you didn't catch it, go back. The whole NIL, the whole, everything goes to court, the whole Michigan cheats again. All of that stuff. It's just I'm over it. NFL starts tomorrow night. I am full on NFL. Go Bears. Packers suck. There it is, Jeremy. All right, guys, hope you have a great rest of your night. We'll be back tomorrow with lunch with the Clydesdale and the Cowboy. And then hopefully we'll be back Sunday night as normal this week, because these Tuesday nights are killing me. With that, I hope you guys have a great night. See you all soon. Don't forget to like and subscribe, people.
