Back to one-on-one with D.P sponsored by the downtown Lincoln Foundation on
Welcome back Donald segment before we hand it over to the big guy
Adam Kirikor up next here on the ticket coach
There's there's a brotherhood sisterhood of family a family
connection to to coaches and programs and
When things aren't going well in programs everybody knows like if you're in the athletic department you know whether
Things are going the way you want them to go away. You think they should go
To coaches around the coach, right? So the gymnastic women's gymnastics program takes a hit yesterday
They decided to go in a different direction. I in full disclosure. I'm a huge Heather Brink. I am a huge fan. She battles. It's tough
Yeah, I think she does a lot with a little and I think that's a fair statement that I'm willing to say that out loud
But I'll ask you cancer. What happens in programs like this?
What do you think of Heather Brink and the gymnastic program and how things are?
What that means to the athletic department. Yeah, so obviously it's tough news
Anytime you lose another head coach in the athletic department
You know, we have our head coaches meetings and we all know each other and
You always hate you feel like ever all these head coaches are you know, you're part of a family something special especially here at Nebraska so
You know, just you know with Heather's
You know whole timeline here obviously a phenomenal student athlete here and then a coach here for eight seasons
You know, I know nobody cared more about that program than she did
Obviously, she's a phenomenal coach, but she's also a great person. I've only been you know here for a couple years and she's one of the
coaches I felt comfortable with talking to asking questions to
You know just having a normal conversation with two she was very personable and very nice
Obviously you you hate to see these things happen, but I wish it the best of luck going forward
I know she's a great coach and I know she'll be she'll she'll be scooped up pretty quickly. That'd be my that'd be my prediction
At the same time I you know
We I trust mr. Dan and his decision-making and he obviously cares about Nebraska and the gymnastics program too
So I'm sure he has a great plan going forward, but
Yeah, they're always these are always tough days
And as a coach, you know like hey like we got we got to succeed here and
That's something that mr. Dan is always talked about and you know for me
It's it's what we're trying to do here in tennis too, so a lot of respect for Heather. Wish you're all the best
She's always a part of the Husker family here clearly and
I don't know if I can never help her with anything, but I'm always here for sure
I think it's necessary
mandatory often to speak to the good and coaches
because the belief is isolation
And you don't know how many times you get to say to the person hey
Well done no matter what
The path and the end result was the attention was great. She's a Husker through and through
And it was it's an honor to be around people who care about the thing that they do
She loves the sport. She loves the university. She loves you
That all fair. A thousand percent pair. That's that's her to a tea and anyone that's met her or knows her have been to a
Gymnastics meet what would see that and I'm sure her her players
Would say the exact same thing. So sometime, you know, this is just how it goes sometimes and
Like I said, she's phenomenal coach, but a phenomenal person too and I you know
If she decides to stay in in the coaching world, which I hope she does
I'm sure she'll find a
Another job here quickly
Coach, thank you again for for letting us peek behind the curtain
To your guys your program
And this thing that is Husker athletics. It's it's always informative
And you are appreciated you were you were one big three from being right with the Hurley thing
That's pretty good. Yeah, it was a good run. I'll take it for not really deal too much homework
No, no, you you you you crushed it in yes, we need to get back down there to practice. Let's do a box. Yeah
No, and then Rudy's out here so you get the really yeah Rudy's out here
He's gonna start hovering around your program as well to tell the stories Adam Kierker up next on ninety three seven the ticket
