This movie came out August 4th, 20 years ago, directed by Adam McKay, written by Will Farrell and Adam McKay, starring Will Farrell, produced by Judd Appetow, made a bunch of money. They loved it. What a time to be alive. Goddamn. Take it back. And that's seriously. America really did used to be built on hot bad ass nasty stuff. You know what I mean? And we're not anymore. Eleanor knew what she was talking about. Eleanor knew what she was talking about. I guess we can start here. When this movie came out, did you see in theaters? How old are you? And where did it kind of fall in the Will Farrell ranking at the time? And now? I was 26. So I feel like I got to experience this the most. Because it was, I'm sorry, not 26. I was 24 in 2006. Just had graduated college. And yeah, it was awesome. I feel like in that era, it was just every year or even like a couple of times a year, they were coming out with these, get your butt to the freaking theaters and watch this because it's going to be the best thing you've ever seen, type movies, every year.

And I'd say this is like that. Near the height of Will Farrell's powers, maybe not at that absolute height. It was right there. But yes, I remember just being so excited to go to the theater, see these movies. It felt like every movie was simultaneously more ridiculous and had longer titles. Like the subtitles of these movies are always just crazy. The ballot of Will Farrell. Yeah. Yeah, I think stepbrothers was going to have the title, something about the Catalina Windmixer was going to be in it. Oh my God. And they decided to pull it. Yeah. Well, the funny thing about these types of movies I feel like is you and I were like 12. Like I didn't see this in theaters. I'm assuming you didn't either or did you? I think I did see it in theaters, but I was not allowed to see Anchorman in theaters. So I saw this movie before Anchorman because I think there's a big difference between being nine and being 12 or 13 or whatever for Will Farrell movie. This is the defining comedy of my childhood. This is number one. This is the number one. I don't know if it's the best comedy made in the 21st century, but it's my favorite. And probably it's the one I've seen the most. Funny. It's it's it's I was shocked at how quotable it was going back and rewatching it.

I've seen this movie live 20, 30 times. Yeah. Because I didn't see this in a theater, but it was just a movie that was on all the time. I had the DVD and you can just throw it on whenever it. Every scene in this movie is funny. Like I think there are some comedies where it dips and there's like 20 minutes where it's like, oh, they're building the character. There's an art coming or there's the action scene at the end of the movie. Literally every scene of this movie is funny and has iconic quotes. It's pretty remarkable. With Hase is unbelievable. Totally. In this movie. So like, all right, you always talk about this like make movie shorter, but there's no filler. There's no backstory. They just are like, kid, we're dead. He's a NASCAR. He's a driver and he has everything and that it just it just absolutely rips. And then I was also amazed how many of the funny stuff is like the first 50 minutes. And also the back nine is way funnier than I even remember. And that's like the hardest thing to do in a comedy. Usually the last third is the least funny. I don't really feel like this movie drops off a whole lot. Not like pancakes. It's not what he made. Like all exciting at first, but by the end you're fucking sick of him.

Yeah. I will note like so high fives you said this is your favorite will Farrell movie. It is my favorite. Is that would you say that for you Craig? It's really hard. I know anchor man and step brothers are probably more beloved and more quoted overall. But when I think of comedies, I think of Will Farrell, but when I think of Will Farrell, I think of Taledicta Max. Yeah, I think when this movie came out, I think it's grown more now. I don't know if people when you ask them name the best Will Farrell comedy. I don't know how many people say Taledicta nights. I think they would say anchor man or step school or maybe old school. Yeah, he's like a side. Yeah, but I would probably say to anchor man or step brothers. Um, but I agree with you. This movie sticks with you. It's aged beautifully like all of the jokes still play. The acting is great. The supporting cast is phenomenal. Oh my god. Yeah. Like the awards that all of the supporting cast is won over the years is like crazy. Um, when they pitched this movie, it's funny. There used to be a category on the rewatchables and flex category that's not there anymore. It's called what is the five word pitch of this movie? McKay and Farrell actually did pitch this movie without a script on six words.

Yeah. The pitch was Will Farrell as a NASCAR driver. And Sony was like, they're like sign up. So cut the check. Um, this, yeah, from this is from Farrell's agent. There was a great piece in the ringer written by Jake Kring's Shryphles about an oral history of kind of like Will Farrell as a sports movie icon. And Taledicta nights and the from from Will's agent, he said there was no movie. There was no script. There was nothing. And Sony Greenlit the movie. I don't know if anyone's ever done that in history. Yeah. Is it like a, is it like a ringer pod equivalent of that? It's like Chris Ryan smoking cigarettes, ranking zero. Yeah. So bars. I mean, like what, what pitch would it have to be? Um, let's talk about Farrell and McKay, who kind of one of the all time comedy doos. Yeah. Who I think in my head made more movies together than I thought. It's really only four. I also was surprised going back. I want to say eight or 10. So it's what? Inkerman. It's Inkerman one and two.

So like if you combine those, it's the Inkerman franchise. It's Talediga, step brothers and the other guys. Those are the only movies that, that McKay directed that Farrell acted in. McKay also did the story for the campaign and get hard, which start will Farrell, which are two movies I have not seen actually. I think it's hard. I forgot the campaign. Yeah, hard is Kevin Hart and the campaign is with Zach Alfonakis. Right? Never seen the campaign actually. I don't think a political satire, but McKay didn't direct those. So it's really only four movies. It's Inkerman, Talediga, step brothers and the other guys. In the two of them, you know, they were, they were, they were hired at SNL on the exact same day. They became great friends. They started Funny Your Die, which I don't know if you're one of the first videos I remember seeing growing up was the Pearl video. The landlord. You had a landlord. She saw me, which was McKay's daughter. Right. Oh, really? Yes. Oh, my God. Which was like one of the funniest. That was like the very beginning. You need to settle down for the internet video. The Funny Your Die, one I was remember we always, it's the Batman one for Batman. It's sleepy time. Oh, yeah, P homes.

In order that would surprise you. Ask Melthage. And they started Gary Sanchez, their production company. So yeah, I don't know. They split up in the late 2010s, which is a lot of interesting history about why they split up. And I've written about that it was basically McKay, wrote and created Winning Time, the show about Jerry Busle-Lakers, and Ferrell wanted to play Bus. Oh, right. I've heard about it. And McKay didn't want Ferrell and picked John C. Riley. Oh. Oh, shit. Yeah. Which is crazy. And McKay has spoken about this in interviews and is like, yeah, I didn't tell Will. I should have. And I kind of like fucked up the whole thing. And I get it. And I get why he's upset. And I get why he's upset. That's pretty crazy. I mean, I don't think they've really worked together. Again, maybe they've been like producers on things, but I don't really think so. Why would you not want Will Ferrell as Jerry Busle? These basically Ron Burgundy, but just older and wealthy. Also, like if he, like so many more people would have watched that if Will Ferrell was playing

Jerry Busle. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It never ends well. You know, you, you always, you have like a 10, 15 year stretch. And then it, it's hard to keep these things going. In general, with comedy, I feel like we can talk about Will Ferrell now. I think he's the most influential comedy figure of the 21st century, probably not a hot take. I think he's also the last great American comedy star, probably comedy movie star. I mean, that's kind of what I was saying before is like, if he's in a movie, I'm going to it. That's why they were able to sell this movie without like, with no script or whatever. Yes. For basically like 10, 12 years, it was like whatever Will Ferrell's doing, I'm in. Yes. Since, since he kind of entered a different part of his career, no one's really taken the mantle. It was like listen McCarthy in the 2010s. I think had a couple big movies, obviously, Brad's made them like spy. He, what about Seth Rogen? Yeah. I always felt like Seth Rogen himself was not like the Will Ferrell style draw. It was more about like the ensemble, the concept, like the Appetal gang, what brought

you in. I was like 14. It was like, I want to go see Will Ferrell. He can do any character. Rogen is not really doing characters like Will Ferrell. Shameless pandering to you. No, no. Hosting this episode. Okay. But Will Ferrell actually to me is like the Steph Curry of comedy and that he somehow has the highest 3.0 percentage, even though he's also taking the most threes. But he just made a lot of movies. And you're right. And there's like a way of like the same way, actually the Steph Curry misses you kind of just forget about. And you will be like, we literally forgot about the campaign and get hard all those kind of get like evolved. Like it isn't get punished for it. It's kind of like the way his style is just actually making jokes, where it's just so many jokes that you end up with like gems, but that was kind of the style with just you just cranking out movies. I don't know who like right now, you could say Tim Robinson's trying. I think he's really funny and I think he's kind of even trying to do the same character style of like the cocky idiot, the underqualified overconfident guy. For me, right. You know, but his style is just more niche. Yeah. He also just doesn't have the commanding presence. But do you think this is maybe just like too simple, but Will Farrell is huge.

Yeah. He's like a big man. And also, I think he's like you can tell he played sports the way he moved like he can pull off an athlete. He did so many sports movies. He can pull off an athlete, even though he's obviously not super athletic anymore. He can move like it like he's done it before kind of deal. I don't know if anyone had sort of the actual physical gravitas that he had, maybe Vince Vaughn, who is I think one of it like maybe one of his rivals in terms of the game. He's like the biggest comedy stars that era. Ben Stiller was quite a bit smaller, but it's still at his account. Yeah. He did. I do think athleticism and like frame body control is like one of the more underrated parts of being good at comedy. You go like you look at guys like Balushi and Candy and all these guys who you look at them and you wouldn't think anything of them. But they're also they're like secretly very athletic and coordinated dudes. Even the big guys have the like the Trent Williams athleticism where so you wouldn't know what their shuttle time is. They don't like our movie full work, and it matters even Jim Kerry. Like they all know how to move their body because comedy is half physical.

Dude I was reading about Will Ferrell was like closely connected to USC during the P Carol era. Yeah. And he like went to one of their practices one time and put on you know like full, full like pads and how and everything was like running routes. They're like who fuck is this guy? And then he took out his home like oh my god, it's Will Ferrell. That's the thing about Will Ferrell is like the ubiquity it's it's almost hard to explain now, how much he was always putting out a movie, but he was always doing weird stuff. Like he was an usher at a Lakers game. He was doing stuff like that. I forgot. So I read that Jay Gratical and the ringer that he did the, I want to play nine positions in a baseball game or 10, I guess, technically. Oh, right. And then I was like, I forgot that he went to 10 different or five different teams to play because he was like only going to do two positions, but he's always doing some kind of viral stunt. Yeah. So he was just always around doing stuff. And it never feels forced with him. Like it's all of the game stuff. There's, you know, there's kind of like the Bill Murray lore. It's like Bill Murray showed up at my dinner party and blah, blah, blah. Ferrell's the same way, but it doesn't feel performative. He truly just does it because he thinks it's funny. He'll just show up and like do that.

Yeah, the Lakers game where he dresses as a security guard, but he's like not trying to go viral. I feel like he just loves it. Yeah. It's a good bit. Yeah. He talked about Will Ferrell playing sports though. He might be the comedy sports star ever. I mean, he rattles off kicking and screaming. He's a Pallet Hagonites blades of glory in semi pro in four years. And it's kind of like after diehard, when they just started ripping off diehards and it was like die hard on a boat under siege. It was kind of like Will Ferrell plays it. What? Will Ferrell plays sport. Yeah. Totally. And you could just get away with that for five years. I mean after they did NASCAR, which you know, is they were like trying to be careful not to be making fun of it. But NASCAR is very like has a spot in American culture. And then they're like, what, how can we top that? we're gonna do figure skating. Like, what I mean, what would be like the next sport that you'd want to see him do? That's even more ridiculous than this. I was looking at his IMDB and his upcoming projects. It says, and this was part of the interview on the Ringer piece, that they've bounced around,

they've basically gone through every sport, and they're like, well, it'd be the funniest. Yeah. It says he has an upcoming eSports comedy in the works. Okay. But then the logline is like exactly what you think. It's like, we'll for all please video games. It's like washed up. His former athlete thinks he can get back into the game with eSports. It's like every other story. Yeah. But sure, I'm in, I mean, it's. What are you doing golf right now? He's doing the hockey on Netflix. I do want to read, I just want to read Farrell's run from 01 to 2010. And just how unassailable and ridiculous it is, and we'll probably never see this again in comedy. This is what he does. Some of these are supporting roles and some of these are lead, but still, it's worth mentioning all of them. From 2001 to 2010, he goes, Zoolander, Old School, Elf, Ankerman, Starski and Hutch, Kicking and Screaming, wedding crashers, Taladeganites, Blades of Glory, Semipro, Step Brothers, and the other guys. Well, all of those are actually incredible and still funny. I would say five of those are among the most iconic comedies ever made,

at least for the 21st century or people in our generation. I think what's craziest about that list is the fifth funniest movie on that list is probably the other guys, which has some of the best jokes I've ever seen in any movie ever. Super underrated. It has to be the most underrated, Farrell movie. I don't know if people were just like getting sick of it by then, but that movie, I just watched it the other week on a plane. It was amazing. He, and the movies that you mentioned that he is a minor character or sort of like an extended cameo. He is arguably the funniest person in that movie and some of those, like the move got to in Zoolander. Kitas and Austin Powers too, he makes a brief. Yeah, and he's the guy who's like, I'm very bad. I'm very badly, but I'm glad you're here. Hold on, I'm very badly burned. Yeah, that's the thing is not only can he lead a movie and dominate it, he's the Dion Waiters every time he shows up for 100%. 100% like Chaz, what's his name in wedding crashers? He's Chaz. What is the most best part of it of wedding crashers? He's the best part of Eastbounded Down. Yeah, when he's just, he's basically just showed up and wanted to make Danny McBride laugh. That's a look at the boy. And watch the boy, a welter in a blue is you.

I said, no, let the boy watch. Hesley's shape. Also underrated the names in all these movies elite. I have it written down. They must have spent so much time. Farrell and McKay and the whole fair, they know how to name a fucking movie character man. All these are just off the top of the head. You know it, Ricky Bobby, Ron Burgundy, Buddy the Elf, Frank the Tank, Chaz Michael Michaels, you have Dale and Brennan and Jackie Moon. I'm glad you brought that up because there's so many times where I'd neither know, I just never know the character's name and I'd just call them by the actor's name. And they somehow have Will Farrell be really famous but we call him Ricky Bobby. It's something whenever we do rewatchables and I'm watching like Bill, Chris and Sean, I'm always so impressed at how well they're able to remember the character's names and they can speak about them as the characters. I'm always like, oh yeah, when Gwyneth Pouchro does this. Yeah, yeah. But you don't have to do that with Will Farrell movie. Frank the Tank. Yeah. Frank Ricard. Yeah, it's perfect. Blue, just everything. You have a blue and blue. Well, so they just almost make yellable names.

Ricky! Yeah. Rick? Jokesy, why are you supposed to be Rick? His name's Rick. You're stepping on the category, Tyler. We'll get to that later. I do want to talk about though, this always happens with the comedy. It's hard to sustain. It just is. After the other guys in 2010, here are the next movies he did from 2010 to basically 2020. So he does step brothers in O8, he does the other guys in 2010 and then he goes on the office in 2011. Oh right. Remember that? He replaced Steve Crow. The Angelo Vickers. Totally forgot about that. Which I loved the office. I never loved seeing Will Farrell though. I really liked that. I liked Robert California more than most people. I didn't like that. I just took the honest. It was a classic. It's like every time they do it when Charlie Sheen leaves 2 1,5 minutes like to send the show. But he does the office in 2011. He was 44 years old. And then he does the campaign. He does Anchorman 2, Get Hard, Daddy's Home, Zoolander 2, The House, Daddy's Home 2, and Holmes and Watson in 2018,

which was officially, I remember when that came out. And I was like, oh wow, Farrell and Riley are back. Yeah. It didn't work. And I remember thinking if they just didn't do British accents, the movie might have worked. I was like, I was like, I was like, dude, I did that the whole movie. It's a great take. I'm like, if they just didn't have the accents, it probably would work. The list, you reading that list reminds me of I just saw an interview with like 50 cent the other day where they're like, are you making new music? And he's like, no. I got a lot of money. He's like, I thought able to make rap anymore. He's like, what do I get to talk about doing the laundry and like filing my taxes? It's just hard to keep going. I think, you know, it was around his mid 40s when it started to taper off. And really when he got into his 50s, the list is very short of comedy movie stars in their 50s still crushing it. So he was 38 when he filmed this. I looked it up because I was like, I can't, I can't actually figure out how old he was. He's got an age list. He plays like a 20, he plays like someone a little bit younger, I think, in the movie. But he's always kind of doing that. I never, Farrell always just seems like 40 to me. Yes. He turned really 40. He does have the Bill Murray thing. Where Bill Murray looked at like 50, 40,

48 years old from 30 to 60. Yes. Well, also, I always like that. Farrell like never cared about taking a shirt off. He was never super in shape, didn't care. I would always like poke fun at it. He's huge, hairy, super tall. He has that weird like crease in his belly. He just like doesn't give a shit. I don't know what where that's coming from. Which is also a huge part of comedy. He's just leaning into it. Farrell's great just because I think he had the, it at least felt as though he was comfortable with other people being funny with him in movies. He didn't need to overpower every movie. Yeah. He really surrounded himself with other people who were super funny. Like him having like a counterpart. And most of the movies he did, whether it's like John C. Riley or, or, you know, like the crew and anchor man, I kind of respect that. Like you said Steph, it's like Steph was okay with having Clay. And I think Will was fine with like being able to play off other people. You need needs Clay. Like you need someone to actually reach that level. So actually, I mean, I think he needs a John C. Riley. Totally. You can see it in all the bits too. Like Craig said, he's not trying to overpower everyone. He's like built like as they're going through scenes,

there's so many scenes in this movie where you can see them just on the verge of cracking up. Oh my God. Every time like the knife in the leg scene. I mean, just, there's not a bad guy. Oh my God. Cut around the moon. Cut around the moon. Cut around the moon. They're in a hospital and they're crafting a cat around the moon. I don't know why there's no one helping. I think that's going around the moon. Don't you put that knife in your leg? It really is a no skips movie. Like every scene. I was trying to find the weak link. And I was like, I can't. I don't have one. I don't think there's a scene you can cut. Because like, even if you could say, oh, maybe like, you know, the grandma teaching the kids how to, but I'm like, that's great. All the Gary Cole stuff is great. Can we do a weak Gary now? No, no, just to your point though about the fall off is, I run a wheel Farrell went on the shop with, who's LeBron and Maverick Carter and our coworker here, Rich Paul. Right. And they were talking to Rich Paul and I colleagues. We're basically colleagues. Yeah. Yeah, same level. And he literally just is like, Will Farrell says,

I don't make films. I make movies. Yeah. He's like, films are nuanced and planned. And we kind of just show up and we're like, yeah, I want to rehearse. Now let's just go. Yeah. And I think that over time you run out of ideas. And I think the perfect example of that is Ankerman too, which I think everyone wanted to be good. There's that stupid thing where they like, or in a lighthouse with a shark, the shark. And he's like pretending to be blind, but he can see. I'm like, that's just the Talidega paralyzed scene. And it's like he just, he did 15 years of uninterrupted incredible ideas and then he kind of just did them again in the next movies. Yeah. I know it's interesting. Like my brothers and my are in their 20s and and, and ones 25, ones 28 and the 25 are all, his relationship to Wolf Feral is not as strong as I thought. Like there are movies I could pull up. I'm like, oh, have you seen Talidega nights? And he's like, oh, maybe, I don't know. And it's just so shocking to me that, that I don't know, we're just in such a weird place now. I don't know what it's been. I mean, here and there, there are good movies popped up. Like, I think Game Night's great. That was in 2018 and BookSmart's Good.

And I remember when blockers came out at the end of the 2010s. I was like, oh, yeah, we, and I, if that blockers was okay, but we've been in such a weird spot and no one's been able to replace Wolf Feral. And I think it's made me appreciate him even more. And I think it's made this movie and this run age even better because there's just, you, it almost seems unfathomable now that there could be a star that could be doing this where every year they're in a new movie and all of America's going to see it. That's what I want to ask you about is, who else could do this? Like is it Shane Gillis? Like could Shane Gillis do this again? I think it's Shane Gillis, although, I don't know. I think what Feral is able to do is like, he can really play characters. I know he's kind of always doing the same thing, but Feral's ability on SNL as a, as a, somebody who could just like morph into anyone really works. I don't know if Gillis has that. Sometimes the standup becoming a huge movie star. It obviously works sometimes, but I don't know if I can see. Just like plays himself and everything. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

I think I think he would have to be him, though. Like even he's making a TV show right now on Netflix, tires, which is really funny. But he's just basically being himself. Right. Shane Gillis is a cook. I kind of think people would go see that, though. I kind of think it would work. Well, he's the most famous comedian in the world, and it would have to be him. I don't really know who else would be doing it. Like I said, Tim Robinson, I think it's Tuneesh. And outside of that, there's no crew. Like the Feral McCay crew, still there and no one will send it all them. And then you move to Apatown, Seth Rogan, which became like even more improv heavy. And it was just like stoner, stoners in a room improvising. And then after that, once we got to like, this is the end, whatever, it dissipated, no group has replaced them. And now we're just in No Man's Land. I do think that Tim Robinson, parallel with Feral, though, is, and maybe there's probably a bunch of examples of this. But in that era, in the 2000s, 2010s even, we communicate like my friends and I communicated through movie quotes. Like we could do an entire conversation. It's just movie quotes from Will Ferrell. Like all different like Anchorman was huge.

And I think Tim Robinson is kind of similar to that. Like we, so many Tim Robinson quotes, the memes, he is really, really memeable. And that's like become part of, you know, there's guys or whatever, like we just talk up, we look, I haven't even seen, I think, like all of, I think you should leave. And I still quote scenes I haven't seen. I gotta figure out how to make money on this. There's a new Marvel movie out there that's supposed to be nuts. Like, I totally agree. I, to that point, I actually think if you deleted all the Will Ferrell lines from my brain, I don't think I could have a conversation with my friends. I don't know how to communicate with other men without this, without Will Ferrell. Yeah. It is weird now. Do we just become best friends? Like memes are becoming bigger than the source material, you know? Yeah. I have not seen that many episodes of I think you should leave. And yet I know like 50 quotes. Yeah, the hot dog, the 55 burgers, 50, like all that stuff. You don't even have to have seen those episodes and you get it. I think you're here for the zip line. It's just so odd that that's where we are. It's like almost like now how they say how many followers you have is less relevant.

It's just like how many views the video gets. Yes, it's like in TikTok. It's like it doesn't even matter. That's just certainly if you have a million followers or 10,000. But you're right. You can get the quotes in the cultural water without actually having digested it. Yes. Like I think you should leave. I don't know how popular it is. I think it's relatively popular. Maybe more cult following. So like it's more memes or ginormous. And everybody knows the memes, even though people may be didn't see the show. We're all trying to figure out who did this. Yes. You know, like the hot dog. I haven't even seen that scene. There you go. I don't think I've seen the zip line. Yeah. Oh my god. The zip line. I've seen the 46. I haven't seen the full thing. Yeah. Ronnie, I think you're just here for the zip line. He's like, what? And then it's like the like man of the guy. Like these guys like he broke it. He's like shut up, Mike. Anyway, this movie is John C. Riley, who. One of the best character actors ever. Yeah. Can do drama, do comedy has worked with like PTA Martin Scorsese. And then just slipped in and became Will Ferrell's number two kind of like Jeff Daniels,

that Jim Carey. Yeah. And honestly, he's kind of like Cal Noughton to Ricky Bobby in real life of Will Ferrell. He's the number two. I mean, how do you do it? Clearly, the real life thing. Like what you're saying about the winning time thing where John C. Riley gets to be Jerry Boston. Will Ferrell freaks out. That's literally the will of you win. Yeah, yeah. How am I going? And he's like, yeah, you're right. You think Adam McKay, you like thought that through. It was like, I want to try this in real life. It's a magic man. Now you see him. Now you know, David, it's actually awesome. Yeah. And Riley got his shot. I mean, after Talladega, he gets, he gets walk art, which I know you. I really, I mean, didn't that like artist? And didn't that kind of pause all those music movies being made for like 10 years? The way Austin Powers changed James Bond. I never, yeah, I never had a stronger relationship to walk art. It didn't do very well. And I think it's why John C. Riley didn't really get another like lead comedy role shot. I think that was it. I mean, it really worked. And then they kind of like, he went back and did step brothers. Just a little bit too much full frontal penis in walk hard for people's tastes.

Maybe I don't know. I think it's a classic. I actually watched rewatch it like a month ago. And it still holds up in my opinion. I'm cutting back. I'm cutting half for the back. I'm like, the we've seen the we've seen is you don't want any of this shit. Well, it's expensive. It's the cheapest drug. There is. Yeah. Also, Sasha Baron Cohen, Jane Lynch, Gary Cole, Amy Adams, Michael Clark Duncan and Molly Shannon, elite supporting cast. Again, no misses across the board. Check my prayer, David Kekner. It's just like everyone in its great. The movie made 163 million dollars. I'm a 72 million dollar budget. Not bad. But this was in the DVD era where it's like the budget. You can't look at the Wikipedia budget. That's probably half of what it actually did. It made like 90 million in DVD sales. And then I'm sure a ton more beyond that. It was the largest opening of Wolf Farrill's career at the time. I think it still might be the most profitable Adam and Kay movie. No Roger Ebert review. But we will take a quick break.

And then we'll get into most rewatchable scene where there's like 15. The whole movie. This episode is brought to you by Zipper Cruder. Here in the rewatchables, we talk a lot about strange things or crazy things or committed things that actors did to prepare for a role. I think a recent one is the Odyssey Matt Damon, who is my age, by the way, getting in a absolutely crazy shape, gave up gluten, worked out every day, had to get, you know, look and fit and buff and skinny for Odysseus because he was away for eight to 10 years, committed to it. Knowing you're behind the wheel of consumer reports is safest new car brand Mazda. But more on that later. All right, most rewatchable scene. You guys know the drill, right? I'll go through all the scenes and then you pick your favorite one at the end. Sometimes people don't know. Sometimes people are like, that's that's mine. Hold it. And then we'll get to that. All right. All right. Opening title card. Not a scene, but Eleanor Roosevelt quote. Fucking sets the tone. Yeah. I know exactly what I'm getting into. Like, honestly, that's the quickest tone setter I've ever seen. I'm going to get the entire ethos of the movie with just a title card. Yeah. Three little vignettes to start the movie. The birth and the car. The kids stealing the car in class or at the grocery store. And then. We're going to get the car. We're going to get the car. We're going to get the car. Or at the grocery store. And then. Reese Bobby at career day is like these three tight little vignettes you get your if you're

not first your last. Um. And then we get the Ricky as an adult. I don't know what to do with my hands. And then he starts winning montage. Um, we get I piss excellence. Car. Car handle real. Just put it. Just put it. Just put it. Nothing. I just like very gently like touches. Just put it. Car. I don't know. I just love. So good. Uh, that's just stuff that like you just that says not in the script. I just love that. Yeah. Car. Car in real nice. You get the Ricky Bobby's got two first names. I was like of the owner, the Dennis. Yeah. I want you to who what's the football comp there? What's the NFL owner comp with the owner of dinner and then the son taking over. And he's got to be Jerry and Stephen Jones. Is that probably right? Yeah, you might be right. But then who is Ricky Bobby to Steve Jones? Good question. Ramos the layup, but I mean, do we have is there an al Davis.

Mark. Oh, that's pretty good. Yeah, microwave John Crudin. It's not bad. Um, we have the dinner scene. Yeah, where we we we meet Walker and Texas Ranger. My beautiful car as we call. I don't know. There's a supper's been ready for hours. I've been slaving over this for hours. I love her accent. Perfect. Dear Lord, baby Jesus. Leslie Bimbs. Great. Yeah. I love the way he's talking to you, Chip. You brought this on yourself, Chip. That's what happened when I see Kai speak up to hyphen. I said, I love the way he's talking to you. Have you brought the heat? She said, I have a lumpy butt. And then I said, fuck you. And she yelled at me and I pissed in my pants. I'm going to be pissed in his pants. There's so many. This scene is one of the more iconic moments of the movie. I would say. Craig, dear Lord, baby Jesus, eight pounds, six ounces. Newborn infant Jesus. Don't even don't even know a word yet. I like to think of Jesus in a tuxedo t-shirt.

Hey, count. Why don't you shut the hell up? Yes, ma'am. That that relationship is great. I'm all jacked up on Mountain Dew. I'm coming at you like a spider monkey. It's there's just a remarkable amount of quotes in this film. I threw grandpa's war medals off the bridge. Sounds like a good day. Dude, you know that the meme, like I'll put it in the Louvre. Yeah. Literally this scene made apeshit a thing. Oh, I'm the way. I'm the way. I'm the way. Shit on your ass. You know what happens a few years later? Jay Z makes a song with Beyoncé called apeshit. And then they film the music video in the fucking Louvre. With the Mona Lisa. You think saying apeshit in this movie inspired Jay Z? Yeah, I mean, think about watch the throne. Literally starts by clipping blades of glory. Yeah. One song, one song only. Like that's provocative. No, no, it means it's provocative. That was a jets of Jay Z Kanye song. And then we'll starting with a Will Ferrell movie. And then two years later, they make a song called apeshit. Is that a half-ass internet research or is that just your opinion? Like, could you see that online?

Strong theory. I do not think that Beyoncé and Jay Z make a song called apeshit without this movie. Wow. And they literally filmed the shutdown the Louvre at night to film there. Hi, Fitz invented the piano key neck tie. I did. I don't think that's true, but I like to think I like to think it's true. He has really good happen case. I'll ask Rich to ask Jay Z. And then maybe we can get an answer. Honestly, we might be closer to him than we think. Right. The degrees of separation, aren't that many? Many seen. I love Ricky Bobby winning the race in reverse, which would just be like the biggest story of all time. I don't know. I don't know. That was just fucking cool. Do they go that fast backwards? I was wondering that. I want to step on the Vincent Chase. Can they go as fast backwards as they can go for it? Just like that. I don't want to step on the Vincent Chase or the good at the job. But all the other race car drivers in this movie suck. Oh, what are you going to really? Really? I mean, imagine losing a guy who's going back. I'm just saying. So here apeshit was invented in the 1950s. But I think he's saying that. What the fuck did you Google it?

What do you talk about? I was curious. He said inspired Jason. You were alive. Did anyone use that term in the 90s? Absolutely. Yeah. I feel like it exploded after this movie. Like I never heard of this movie. This says no gas-powered cars cannot drive as fast in reverse. Although, don't have any. We only have one gear. Don't even talk to you about it. Don't even talk to you about it. Don't even talk to you about it. Don't even talk to you about it. Have the physical capability to do so. Oh, wow. So eat that. You'll fucking chance. Okay. I like that many seen. Then we get the bar scene where we meet John Gerard. Right. I love one of the music's playing and what's his thing? It's like. Oh, no. He's like, his brain's about to work. Like making him short circuit. Keep it up for profile and for jazz. Yeah. Oh, oh, oh. Uh, John, we meet John. He breaks Ricky's arm. We get the, the crepes. Really thin pancakes. Him drinking the beer sideways. What is he? I don't know. You are disrespecting me. Dude, he's like, don't do a Ricky. These colors don't run. I had a whole mess of crepes this morning.

A whole mess. That's another quote that we used to say. I had a whole mess of crepes. It's great to see it. Very thin, thick, thick, thick, thick, thick. This could come, this could come from ice, no? He compromises immediately. I feel like John was reasonable in that scene. Super reasonable. He just said, like, his arm. He gave him a compromise, dude. Really compound fracture. I mean, he just, if you had just said, really thin pancakes, it would have been fun. Then we have the montage of John winning. We have Ricky's crash. Yeah. Um, and then we have the hospital scene, which I feel like is the next. I don't know. I'm not sure if you're going to be able to see it. I feel like these are related especially during the Japanese pandemic test. And by moving forward, I feel like I haven't been able to see itığım, but like, you have that surprise. You can do this shooting pictures. I mean, it just drives me mad. Yeah. So, yeah, mandates and modulations to that. It's like seeing the dimensions of watching Wolf long time ago where you are. And this day I had seen G panorosis, when I said, hey, can you tell me how you made it up? I perception already around you is pretty impressive. I didn't realize I had the same photo I can kill with my thumb iTunes. Which was Sylvester laser. You know, that's how I journalists shot a son of some kind of a слышig this morning. Why? Because I remember like someone头 and phone things that we had called a mirror at the time. Hey, Nate's done. No. Beautiful, articulate son. How many times articulate is unbelievable? I can't believe he chose that word. Yeah.

You know, it's improvised too. How many times have you, I feel like for me, it's 10,000 or it's like, don't you put that evil on me? Oh my God. Yeah, it's one of the top five quotes from the movie, I would say. Yeah. Even the brief scene where he's in the wheelchair playing basketball and he's kicking people. I think he gets up and takes them off. The like, random line that saves you, like the first time you watch it, like, you know, all the, you know, first or last, but the line that I actually cackle every time, he's like, cows, I psychosomatic. So you mean he can start a fire with his thoughts? And don't just like, no, it's just on his head. Yeah. Uh, you get using the second knife to pry out the first knife. Cut it around the ring. Which is maybe one of the funniest. Yeah. You know what it makes when it goes to like the squish is it? When he like bangs the second knife in, like a hammer. It's great. I think I had to watch that 70 times until I realized that they're in a hospital. It's really good. I'm paralyzed.

You are not paralyzed. I'm not paralyzed. Don't you stick that knife in your leg? Oh, like, the noise it makes. It's like, like a squelch. Yes. Um, so then we have kind of Ricky's fall. And then we have the wife swap scene or like the family swap scene, which is I imagine kissing his like the Walker and Texas Ranger on the head as he comes there playing a game together. That's like me coming home. We gave after Luther Burton is officially a flop and Liz is just with high fits. And I'm like, what's going on? And she's like, sorry, Kristen Watson was a better. I was gone for three hours. Like, Luther Burton was hurt for one game. Ricky, your marriage was a hollow shell. He's like, what? Yeah. It's all houses. They're playing jenga. Everybody got his arms around the kid. Did she say this marriage has been over a long time? He's like, no, honestly, did not know that did not know that. You reckon by life, we get magic, man. How you see me? Now you don't. Um, many seen that I love is when Cal calls Ricky at night, uh, from Ricky's old house.

So great. And he's like, when you have the stereo turned on and the TV, how do you handle the volume? And he's like, why do you want to watch the list of stereo and TV? Cause I like the party. He's like, obviously, why am I talking to you, man? That's like a mantra. He's like, all right. I'll call you tomorrow. I feel like I never even noticed until like this time is these. I think your house is haunted. He's not haunted. Is anyone else in there? Yeah. He's like, he's so busy. He's even that up. That could have been like a whole part of the movie. Yes, he probably was. That I do always watch these appa towel movies. And I'm like, man, they're actually a somehow three amazing. They have the three hours of me role that they just didn't. Oh, yeah. I mean, like there was like an anchor man. They had enough for a second movie. All these movies, I feel like the first cuts are super long. Anchorman, I'm convinced that it was supposed to end with the bear smelling the menstruation, which they had like literally set up perfectly, but then the bear almost killed somebody and they were like, we're done. We can't do that anymore. That was jelly. The bear.

Um, three more Applebees. Hmm. And you get the kind of the first or last realization, which is, which is sad, which actually hits when Reese is on the street and he's like, Hey, Rick, guys, how when I said that, how you be seconds, third, fourth, even fifth, he can be me fifth. It kind of hits. I like how the dad just gets itchy anytime. It's like even close to harmony in the family. I got to start fight. I got to start being mean to somebody. I know. I tell you the feeling like my family's playing a board game and everything's going fine. Like this is where anarchy. Yeah, he's just like, you know what? Fuck it. You guys are cheating. And then it's like, no, we're not in a fight. He is Reese is literally the most outlandish character I've ever seen. But then he just has that one line. I was like, I don't know what bone people have that makes him act right. But I wasn't born with it. I'm like, that actually is all be cutting. That's a thing. Um, apologies. I missed a scene. One of the best. The other of like the pantheon scene is the Cougar Reese Bobby getting Rick. Where'd you get a Cougar? I trapped it. We're feeding. We're feeding all pizza cops are coming.

There's a kilo of Colombian bam, bam, under the car. What do you mean? Hair on your pages or what? I love real simple son. Gary Cole is great. Okay. We have that we have that Amy Adam speech. Oh God. Which I have to imagine would be Harrison Bucker's favorite speech a woman could ever give in a film. It includes, it includes the lines. I'll read it for you. Harrison Bucker. Harrison Bucker would love this. You need to rev your engine. You need to fire it up and you need to grab a hold of that. Line between speeding chaos and you need to wrestle it to the ground like a demon cobra. And then when the fear rises up in your belly, you use it and you know that the fear is powerful because it's been there for billions of years and it is good. And you use it and you ride it. You ride it like a skeleton horse in a case of hell and then you win, Ricky. You win and you don't win for anyone else. You win for you and you know why? Because a man takes what he wants. He takes it all. You're a man. Aren't you Ricky? Aren't you? Ricky Bobby is not a thinker. He said you're a driver. Bucker's just isn't. I've talked to you like this. Flex category, the Harrison Bucker award for speech.

That would, yeah, speech that would make Harrison Bucker see it. Kind of an amazing moment. Amy Adams just comes out of nowhere. She I didn't realize now that like she wasn't really famous when this movie came out. Is that right? No, because I'm like, why is she in this movie? It's an incredibly small role. She did catch me if you can. She was like the brief love interest three years before that. And then she did a movie called June Bug that she that she wrapped on when she booked Taladega nights. So she ended up getting an Oscar nomination for June Bug, but she that all happened while Taladega nights was happening. So I'm not saying she wouldn't have taken the role as she had been an Oscar nominated actress, but it was like right as Amy Adams was about to take off. But you always joke about the glasses ponytail. It's funny to literally just see her glasses. And she takes for the glasses off. Let's her hair down. Fantastic scene in the bar. Oh, amazing. We better get it on right now. Everybody turn around. Look away. Where we make an animal sounds. And then we have the final scene, the final race, the foot race, which I have to say,

I got chills when they start running on foot to the finish line. I would you immediately get chills. You're just a sports fan. That's a, it is moving. Sturrs this all. So what do you got? What's most rewatchable? DK, well, can we add more? Oh, sure. The commercials and commercial bloopers. Yeah. I have that. Somebody called me. I believe things I just enjoy. Yes. Butter my ass things. I just enjoy fake ads and commercials. I mean, fake ads and movies are just they always work. Yeah. I literally have the same thing for that category. It always works just these. Nothing for Christmas like the jackhog 9000. The whole jackhog 9000. The holidays are just around the corner. What about you? Give a loved one. And the jackhog 9000. Available one more jackhog. We're competitors on the racetrack. But we want to talk to you about something very serious. Packs of wild dogs control almost wild, vicious dogs. Controlling most of the major cities. If you don't chew big red, then fuck you. I have said that one million times. A hundred percent.

And I do. And I know like it probably has an age grade. When he's doing the prune candy. Chad. Yeah. Right. I when I first was a 13 year old, that fucking killed me. Yeah. Through the fig dude. This sticker is dangerous and inconvenient. But I do love figures. Bodies that look so good. You want you're going to want to talk to it. He's from a creedies. A few rural services. The whole one's the best one. It looks so good. You're going to want to talk to it. 98% of people will die at some point in their life. Did you guys part of this? The original. The original. The, well, so those are the lines you're quoting are not in the original. No, the best bloopers. Those are during the end credits. Yeah. Yeah. And the end credits. I they're just kind of playing and they're cutting between the snow. Snowblownness and cats. Snowblownness and cats. This scares the living shit out of us. I would I would love nothing more than a watch will feral do fake ads for like seven. Oh, I think the best scene. It's hard because like you said, every scene is great. My favorite scene is probably the dinner, honestly.

The dinner and grace. I want you to do this. Grace. Good. The dinner. The, yeah, the grace, the baby Jesus, the six pounds, seven ounces. Yeah. Never known a word. He had a beard. He was. Yeah. We do that all the time. I know we say that for only once a week. Yeah. I think he was a man. He's here. I make the money. I picked the Jesus dude. I think this was the money. $1.6 million. Oh, I think this was the most quoted scene of my childhood. I think that's right. It's got to be up there because you have. I'm going to be on your ass like a spider monkey. I'm all jacked up on mountain to thank you Lord, baby Jesus. Like if you just kind of go down the line, like the amount of quotes that I've just are just stuck in my brain from this, I think it was the most quoted line until, I mean, I guess maybe things later, but I don't think even my friends were even quoting Anchorman or as much as this movie. It's a good call. It could be up there with one of the volume wise, the most quotes of any scene

of in the 2000. Yeah. Yeah, quotes per minute quotes per minute that still stick to this day. I love the way he's talking to you, Chip. Yeah. The Tuxedo T shirt thing. That one is, he's like, I picture Jesus and it's a Tuxedo T shirt because it's like formal, but I like the part. It's like Leonard Skinner's just hammered and I'm just hammered. Big Eagle Wings. I just shut the hell up. Yes, man. He's like a changeling like a man. Manimled. It is really good. I mean, this is like the perfect example of that era where they would do 18 different takes of a line and just like see what stuck so funny. Taco Taco or Domino's KFC and he always delicious Taco Bell. I didn't even remember that he had sponsored the grace. We have power. We have we have contractually. I'm going to mention the upcoming flavor. I don't know what the flavor was. Blue power. Blueberry Mountain Missed. Yeah. That's kind of a new level of sponsorship. I didn't know it was grace. It's having to do sponsorships in the privacy of your own home to just your family.

I mean, that's like guerrilla marketing right there. It's a good word. Yeah. So do you have the dinner? The dinner seems to be the dinner. But I do want to shout out the bar scene because I think the bar scene is sneaky. Actually unbelievable and how also how fun it is because the whole like what a France ever give the world is like democracy, existentialism and lemanaja to our and some good things. But the other one is just the crepes. But these colors don't run. He's actually really had mess crepes this morning. But also the just the conversation into the bar where they're like, yeah, my grandmother her birthday's coming up. I don't know what to get her. She's turning any fives get her a coffin. I love that that scenes in the movie. Doesn't need to be there. That's great. That was my that guy. We'll get to that one. Yeah. But I think it has to be the grace. I agree. It's dinner supper supper. Soppers ready. Slavery over this for hours. I was slaming over this for hours. Okay. Today's most rewatchable scene was presented by Mazda and the Mazda CX50 hybrid, which I literally drive myself. I drive that exact car. Wow.

Which comes standard with a suite of proactive safety features. So confidence isn't an upgrade. It's a given Mazda move and be moved. Consumer reports does not endorse products or services. Is it Mazda USA dot com to learn more? You actually do drive us in that car. Actually all the time. It's right. Front seat back seat fantastic. Great car. Okay. I knew category in the spirit of Bill Simmons and spring it on you without to know. What is the number one enduring line or joke from this movie? What has lasted culturally the longest? Well, there's a kind of a category called like the 4chan get most giveable moment. But but what do you think? I don't want to do that. The gift. I want to do just like what is the quote or moment or joke or anything that has culturally lasted the best? If you first your last maybe it doesn't make me laugh anymore. But I think that is the quote that has lasted the longest. I would agree. I would say first or last the hands thing. I don't just do it with my hands. Yeah. I feel like everybody knows that.

Yeah. Don't you put that evil on me Ricky Bobby. But it's got to be first. If you're not first your last is now just a part of the lexicon. Yeah. People everyone knows that quote even if they don't know where it came from. Right. Like a like a Tim Robinson me. It's like I haven't even watched the show. If you're not first your last. I'm almost like. Man, that sounds like such a like a common quote. I can't believe this movie came up with that. Like is that the first time that has been uttered if you're not first like like Marcus Aurelius? No, it was actually. No, it wasn't. This is one of my facts. It was actually a playoff of Vince Lombardi. Really? Yeah. He basically said, I mean, in more proper English, I guess if you're not first your last, it's like basically the winnings the only thing that matters. And then Vince Lombardi said, I'm a big hairy American winning machine. I wake up with more than I piss. Excellent. I'm the best to have. I'm the best there is. Did you. Did you find that online or did you just remember? Yeah, I found that online. His famous quote was winning isn't everything. It's the only thing. And I think that was kind of turned into if you're not first

your last did McCay and Farrell talk about that or is that something that you connected the dots on yourself? No, I think this was like on the just random backs I found. I agree. It's if you ain't first your last. Okay. What is the most 2006 thing about this movie? That a great time putting this list together. It was excellent. Hi, if it's what he got. There's a few, but I think you have to start with the next tell patch. Like dude, next tell. I couldn't even remember what they did. What a cell phones cell phones, but just that is just such a specific era. Yeah, sure. The other one is just at the end. Something I totally forgot about is the son who takes over the team is like really trying to get Halliburton to sponsor the car. Oh, that's why I put that down. Halliburton references. Halliburton was like a reviled company in that era. It's like deep chaties. They're just like late stage capitalism. Is it oil? It's like a oil services. Oil product like oil like oil logistics basically. I think they're doing rings. It's like I'd like to get someone at stock. I would love to get my hands on that stock in the

gun. It's kind of nods. Yeah. That was like Adam Cage just put that in and then he went and made vice 10 years later. Yeah. What else you guys got? I got a couple here making the villain a gay French guy. 2006. The butt of the joke being this guy's super gay in French. Yeah. It's pretty 2000. That is too. That is very. These colors don't run being a thing something they say. That was like very much that era. The sideburns. Soul patch combination. Yeah. Several of my friends had that. Like it was a really big thing. Yeah. Not like outlandishly people just did that. Like really long sideburns. Yeah. Where'd those go? We don't do that anymore. Rightfully so. I think those I'm not sure. Most things have come back. I don't know if the long sideburn will come back. To play off of the next hell thing. The mention of circuit city. He's got more plugs in him than a circuit city. Sure. Circuit city being a thing when when when Carly says she wants to pull the plug. Yeah. She's like, man, he's just I've never heard of make noise like that.

He just y'all. That's like looking up. Yes, mean, believe skirt. Oh, yeah. That was very. That up. Yeah. I mean, believe means something to people of my generation. Baywatch. My specific generation. Yes. Yeah. Bill is if he's listening to this is like, okay. Yes, I believe was. I had no idea who that was. Super super attractive. I mean, also just Jean Gerard getting having lunch with Elvis Costello and most deaf. Most deaf. And it was actually that. Yeah. He's like, was that Elvis Costello? Most of you say, no. The other one is like, will you be my gate de Carrick? Oh, that is. Yeah. Come on. So what's your winner? I think that's the Biala Burton. No. I mean, that's like the most 2006 thing. I think I think it's the making the villain a gay French guy. I have Amy Adams being a tiny small side character in a movie. That's kind of. Yeah. Can I throw out one other one? Sure. I kind of think it's Sasha Baron Cohen in a way. And I know that he had a career after that. But I feel like you're like, oh my God.

This is like. Borat came out three months after this. Yeah. We'll get to that. But I just kind of, I don't know. You know, what do you guys have? So the Floyd Gundoli buttered my ass and the Ollie pops in my mouth a word for something I just enjoy. I have the fake ads and commercials. That's great. I had fake ads and commercials. I get 95% of us will die at some point in our lives. So the darkness is creeping towards you, whether you wanted or not. The other one I just had for things I just enjoy. One, the sound of race cars. Yeah. Is unbelievable. Molly Shannon was honest. I think we'll do that later. I don't know what's wait. That's like your Wayne Jenkins. Yeah. Yeah. We're gonna let him just not. We're not doing it right now. The other one I want to throw it is just getting into a muscle car through a window without opening the door. You like people do that? Every time dude brick brickie Bobby's dad does that. One point later. I'm like I'm pretty sure the door is open in this car. It does. It always hits. And the last one is just shimmed pain when race car drivers win. Mm hmm. Is it great? Yeah. I like that. I thought about that. The only other thing I have is Rob Regal and David Kekner just kind of being in every comedy.

They I just want them in every comedy. Yeah. Give them four lines each. I love seeing them. They're a floor razor. Always great. I grew up that something I really enjoy. Shifting gears in a car to music to aggressively pass one. Just feels primal somehow. I like I love when they do that. You know, I'm not a huge like chasing guy, but I'll watch people shifting gears to like change speeds for two hours straight. Do you like the movie Baby Driver? There's a lot of that. Yeah. Well, it's like cell phones kind of like they had to almost invent ways for people to not have cell phones in a movie. There when there's all like driverless electric cars are going to have to invent reasons for people to use the stick shift still. Because I don't even know how to watch a scene with the car without a shift. Shifting gears into the 2006 category. So do you guys know how to drive a stick? Absolutely. No. Elbow. No. Well, I do. Let's see. Oh, and this is something that I've just noticed about a lot of movies sports movies from that era and from other areas. I love the using real life sports announcers in the movies about sports and

how they do voiceovers to kind of set the stage or whatever. I just think that's really fun. I like that. And so in this movie, I didn't. I for kind of forgotten that they do that. And they use B-roll of like real NASCAR events, which I think always helps as well. All right. What's AIDS the best? I got a couple. I think in general, the racing looks great. The way they filmed it has big budget has completely held up. They've got a lot of it in North Carolina. It just looks really authentic and really good. And the crashes look phenomenal. It's just really high end. You can tell that this is a comedy that they put a lot of work into in the production side. 100% looks awesome. I have Leslie Bibb. What we have talked about a lot. Her performance stands out more to me now than it ever has. She was perfectly cast. No, you could not have her place or with anybody. Yes. She's phenomenal in it. And then yeah, her performance as a trophy wife, just like that don't work. Don't work. All of that is like has gotten sweeter over time. They said that. So apparently because that's where it's good. Maybe I luckily I love on. She's like pep talking when they're talking shit.

It's so good. But NASCAR I guess because NASCAR is very involved in the making this movie. And I guess the head of NASCAR basically was in the test screening and no one would laugh until he laughed like it was like, you know, like Stalin Russia or something. And then the the wife thing where he's like, I'm a race. I'm a driver's wife. I don't work. And he bust out laughing and then everyone else. Apparently that was like a big sort of inside joke inside like the NASCAR community is like there's a lot of gold diggers. I mean, is that I feel like across probably a lot of sports. But yeah, a lot of gold diggers and a lot of crazy ass kids. Yeah. Is what I heard. What I heard Walker and Walker and Texas a beautiful sons. Well, what do you guys have? Hi, Fitz. What's into the best? I have Ricky trademarking. If you wait first your last and literally saying to the camera, if you ain't first your last and also that as a trademark phrase, you are not allowed to use that like watching that three weeks after Jaden Daniel said you can't use my house. This is why I said to you. Like this is incredible. I was like the very blatant like marketing. And this is fucking great about marketing. There's always commercial during a crash.

That's the other one. Fucking great. Literally, it's like what Craig advisors. Yeah, like when someone someone's like someone's driving his leg just snapped in half. And it's like two for one anti-tisers. Case of Delos. I almost couldn't believe that that had happened because we've been joking with that. That was like for a DC championship game to go. And it's like the new chicken finger crunch sandwich 1999. All right. We're back. Oh my god. That's great. Yeah. So good. The really PC track it out there somehow has it's a aged well when he's like ladies and gentlemen. That is a new track record. As it stands now, John Gerard is sitting on the pole, which is a statement of fact. And there's no way a comment on the driver's sexual orientation. He also has a lot of mystery. He goes, he goes, the wonder bread, the wonder bread is toast when he, when he crashes. I missed that. Oh, I didn't even know that one. Yeah. The wonder bread car is toast. The other one I had of what's aged the best is Rick saying, oh, no, nobody can live forever. I mean, with modern technology and advances and science, I think I can make it 245 300 years old.

He is the funniest number of the Craig Saking go three for five from three at an NBA game. If I'm in a corner corner spot, three for five planted, no one around me, easy money. Feet set. Famously, huh? NBA games where I will say Brian Johnson's just trying to do this now. That's right. Well, now he's trying to dunk. He went from I want to live forever to I loved it. He's taking the bar down. He's taking the bar down. He's like, well, I can't live to 200. So maybe I'll just try to have a 43 inch vertical. He's realizing that if he doesn't get it in now, it's just not going to happen. Um, yeah, anymore. I had some ones that we already talked about with like the post race interview thing was, I just think it's so good. Big kahuna burger award best use of food or drink. We can go craps. We go, big red gum. We go dinner scene with all the take out laughing clown malt liquor. This is like one of those like sort of things they don't really like mentioned during the show, but he's got his car is sponsored by laughing clown malt liquor. And then later his dad is drinking a can of laughing.

Can't he's drinking that tall boy that black candle? That's what I think that's laughing clown malt liquor. Yeah. Always with the tall can. The tall boy is so good. I wanted to do the dinner scene for this, but the truth is they don't eat and you don't see any of the food. So I don't know if that's a violation of this category. It's fine. Does 20 kilos of Colombian bam bam work as. Oh, the lucky charm. Oh, yeah. The only one I want to throw out don't snort these. The part that gets me is every time when he's like drinking the coffee during driving and he's like, you spilled my ma quieto. Machieto. I think it's the lucky charm. So I think that's a good call. All right. Cool. Great shot. Gordo award. Most cinematic shot. There's one crane shot that is pretty cool on top of the racetrack where the cars are going and a crane literally swoops down over all the cars and goes into the driver's seat with Ricky. So I thought it was really impressive. Yeah. That's good. I mean, I thought like the long crash where they're tumbling and slow motion and you can like see there's a fire happening in like the engine block and as it's spinning and there's also an earlier one where he's like, oh, I'm flying through the air.

This is not good. This is not good. There's also just cinematography making me want to be at an Ascar race. There's a scene at where they're kind of like introducing the race and I think they're doing like the start of the flag and then they do like a fly by with like four fighter jets. I'm like, fuck, that might actually be really fun to go to. Have you ever been to an Ascar event? I haven't. Sitting on top of an RV in like the middle of the race on a little lawn chairs. I'm like, I'll try that. I'll do that. I have not been to an Ascar event. I snuck into the Monaco Grand Prix last year. Classic drivers. And I fucking James Bond. The only person in the world who made money on it because then I went to the Monte Carlo and I won 25 bucks and I'll set my $22 on trains. And playing what? You won 25 bucks. I thought it was a great day. But the number one thing though is those cars are so few in 25 bucks. He's great. I mean, money on it. Don't ask how much. It was like $1.90. You broke even. You broke even. But you walk out. The cars are so loud, like unbelievably loud.

And everyone's like, yeah, they're so quiet now. But no, that's always the thing. The NASCAR, it is an experience. I mean, the biggest sporting event in America is the Indy 500. Yeah. You're like over 100. I think 200,000 people go to the Indy 500. It looks pretty fun. Chest Rockwell, Brock Landers Award, Best Character Name. I don't think we try to get into that. Where do we start with this? I think it's Ricky Bobby. I think we just, I think we keep it simple. I was going to ask you, Texas Ranger. Ricky Bobby is the most iconic guy. Yeah, it's all right. You're right. I mean, it's relative to like, yeah, the Texas TR Ranger is a funny joke in the movie. But relative to this is the name of character of the star of the movie, of the star of the decade. And it's in the title. Where does Ricky Bobby rank among the best names of any characters that rad? Good question. Is it better? Well, the real question is, is it a better name than Ron Burgundy? Yeah. Ricky Bobby. Have you ever met anyone with last name Bobby? Have you ever met anyone with last name Burgundy? Well, fair. I don't know. Ron Burgundy or Ricky Bobby?

I'm going Ricky Bobby. I, I'm Ron Burgundy. You stay class, you see me. Ron Burgundy, I just laughed because I think of him as Ron Burgundy, but Ricky Bobby is also just kind of funny and it's on. Which name do you think is more famous? I think Ron Burgundy. I don't have one. I think it's Ron Burgundy. Yeah. I think it has to be. Which movie had, which one made more? They were similar. I think, I think Talladega made more on this note. I wanted to, the same title thing you're talking about. The other man is not called Anchorman. Anchorman is the legend. The legend. The legend of Ron Burgundy. I was going to ask you about this. The ballad of Ricky Bobby. Yeah. Do you think they had to call it ballad because they had just done legend of Ron Burgundy and they're like, what's another legend like name? That honestly, that's a 2006 thing is titling movies like this. Yeah. Yeah. What's like one word, colon, the blank of the blank. It's like Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. Things like that. Yes. Wow. It's a good question though. It's kind of an unanswerable question. Ricky Bobby or Ron Burgundy. I don't know. We should put a poll on Instagram. It's more recognized. On every watch. I'm curious.

Kid Cuddy pursuit of having this award best needle drop. I have four that I loved. I have King of the Road to start the movie, which is wonderful. The opening scene when he's giving birth. Pain at black in French. Oh, yeah. When John Gerard's taken off, faithfully by journey, when they're in the bar, Amy Adams and Wolf Arrow and they're about to get it on. And then at the very end TNT. When they initiate the slingshot and count not in the back. I like faithfully. That's interesting. I have two others. Okay. I mean, all those are great. First of all, audio slave co-chees early in the, I think it was like the first montage of him racing and like starting to get great at it or whatever. If you know that song, you recognize it. It's just like a kick ass like riff. And then I didn't know who this was by, but saliva with click, click boom. Oh, yeah. Click, click, boom. And it's like he's that's like what he's like shifting. That's like a classic need for speed song that would be on every soundtrack.

Yeah. Racing video game. Like, boom. I think my takeaway from that cat, this category though, this soundtrack was like shockingly good. What's the final song to like we belong to? We belong to. We belong to. We belong to. We belong. Like that song is like a choice. That one is I did a Westworld thought that's a avatar. I did a Westworld bottom. I really wanted it to be the paint at black in French, but I actually think that song is the answer to what we belong. Yeah. I kind of think that is the best needle chop for the movie because you have to nail that song. It is good. Yeah. People like like the ending of this movie and this song is pretty important to the ending. Is there a better title for this movie? So in the research, it says during development, NASCAR didn't like the name. They wanted to change it. Maybe high wide enhance them. I was going to ask you the terrible name. Why was that? They don't even that's not even a line in the movie. Maybe it would have been or maybe it was a scene that got cut. I don't know, but yeah, that's not a good name. Tal Degenice is I think. I think it was Tal Degenice is you don't want to mess with that.

Was that the name or because I think that Ketu plays TR was saying that like all the chairs and everything on this set. So I think TR. TR. Texas Ranger. Texas Ranger. Texas Ranger. I like. Like Chris check Norris wasn't in this movie. Yeah. I get him just a dodge ball. I know. I know. How could they not get it? They had just done the fuck you Chuck Norris and dodge ball. You can't just run back Chuck Norris. Yeah. They did that. I was just a walker in Texas Ranger. You can't get why in the movie. He was just in a movie at the end of a movie. I think my question is, do you think that was like the project code name for the movie? Or they actually were going to call it high wide enhance. It says they were going to call it that. The other thing they were going to call it apparently was red, white, and racing. That's not bad. I like Tal Degenice. I think that's not bad. I think Tal Degenice. I think Tal Degenice. I mean, this is maybe an obvious question. Is it a play on days of thunder? Well, I don't think this movie is like a direct parody of that. But it is parodying movies like days of thunder. John C. Riley in days of thunder. In days of thunder. Yes. Well, I feel like that was the big thing. I feel like that's the reason I'm.

I might be stepping on it. I'm making it again. Days of Thunder 2. What? What? They just announced it. Oh, wow. Tom Cruise in In Halfway. Wow. Is he going to be Dick Trickle? Huh? Isn't that his name in the movie? Wait, Tom Cruise? Wait, one of the people in that movie. Let's look at live on air. Cold Trickle. Cold Trickle. Dick Trickle. There is a Dick Trickle. Oh, my God. There is a Dick Trickle. There's no connection. Okay. Dick Trickle. Your head was just in the gutter. Dick Trickle. Oh. That's an all-time name. All right. DK. Yeah. You have a flex category. Oh, yeah, yeah. I went with the, I used to fuck guys like you in prison awards for Craziest Quote. Okay. Also, I looked that up. That's from Roadhouse. That's fucking great. Dude, that one is live. It's so serious. It's so serious. He's an inner-ear. I used to fuck guys like you in prison. Holy shit. It's actually insane. It's the Craziest Live movie. Many rips.

That guy's throwed out. Anyway, the 80s would have. So Craziest Quote. I mean, this is a comedy. So there's going to be a million funny quotes. But like to me, are we about to get it on? Because I'm about as hard as a diamond in an ice storm right now is something I say all the time. I'm about to heart as a diamond in an ice storm right now. You said it all the time. Yeah. I do. I love that her name is Susan. Susan. Susan. Susan, you're the weirdest little girl I've ever met. I could have used another single. You're the weirdest little girl. I could have used another single. The other one that I thought was great was Gary Cole, the grandpa talking to the kids he goes, shut up. You potlicker. I'll put you in a microwave. How the hell was that? I'll put you in a microwave. That was fucking great. Also, he had another great line late in the movie when he is introduced to Susie for the first time. Susan for the first time. And he's like, I'm his lady. We had sex. He's like is that right? Well, I wish I could have been there for that.

I think Reese Bobby is maybe one of my favorite characters. Also another great name. Reese Bobby. Reese Bobby. Reese Bobby. All right. But just girlfriend of word, weak link of the film. I don't typically like to do this, but I don't have an even. Do you? I think if it was just like a quibble. Okay. Sasha Baron Cohen's accent. It's just like too much. Too French. It's like, it takes him too long to say anything. I thought he had a chance to be funnier in this movie. If he could have just like talked a little more normally. It was like it felt like he was his whole mouth was numbed with Novakain. It took him forever to get it out any word. You're like a dog with peanut butter on his mouth. I don't know. I just thought he could have been funny or honestly. And so I thought his accent like the way that it kind of limited what you could do. He goes like very deep into the character. Yeah. More than he is trying to be like big and broadly funny. I am from formula. Yeah. Oh. I don't know. I'm like, I'm not going to say it. I'm just not going to say it. I'm just going to say it.

I'm just going to say it. The scenes were the they kind of get in tight talking with him and Ricky Bobby and he's like. I just love the way that Ricky Bobby is like so dismissive of. He's like, all right. He's like, and next. There is. Whoa. And Ricky Bobby is just like, all right. When they're like most of those and they're just like, I'll play for kids. I'm like for kids. Okay. What's age of the worst? I have. This is like a half age of the worst, but there are a lot of cultural references that I have no idea what they're talking about. Oh, yeah. And actually, it's tricky what's age the worst because I actually think comedy should be doing this. I think references in the moment are good for comedies. And I know you're trying to like play to the whole world now. So you don't want to do that as much. But I like it. It feels. What were the examples in 2006 when Carly's like, if we want a couple of Worcies, we would have named him Dr. Quinn and medicine woman. I never know what that like that's it to show that today show from the 90s about it's about a female physician from Boston who moves to a rugged frontier town in the 1860s.

It's a funny joke, but like I have no idea what that is like room a clan of hand from golden girls. I mean, I think I'm a classic guy. Classic. The movie Highlander is reference the one the op. That can be only one. It was shit. It was shit. It won the Academy for award for what? Best movie ever. Well, like again, these are I like when movies do this, but Katie Kirk and Diane Sawyer people watch now that probably don't know what that means. Yes, mean bleeds skirt love that had no idea what that meant. So it's like it is literally age the worst because I think a lot of people who watch it now have no idea what they're talking about. But I personally like when movies do that. I also watch the trailer for Highlander. Have you guys seen that movie? Yeah. It looks really bad. It's like a it's it's a really bad. It's a really good bad movie. It's about an immortal Scottish swordsman who lives in modern New York City and has to fight another. That could be all new one. I've seen that. I do love I watch the highlander movie.

It was shit. That was DK about Transformers. I watch a Transformers movie. It was shit. I love it. I was smoking with a long cigarette. You literally say he watched Kingfay. You were like, I love them. I love them. I love they can communicate while driving. I think you hear each other. You're talking with your shit. You're screaming at the window. The homophobic humor obviously was 2006. We would never play now. What else do you guys have anything? I had that. You know the scene where the grandmother takes in the two kids and they're out of control and she talks about this is granny law. And granny law just involves hitting the kids. She like slap some. Oh, you just straighten them out. Oh, interesting. You think the soft parents of 2026 would not just say it didn't age well. Those kids are little devil. Those kids. Those kids. Those kids. Those kids are just ordinary. You guys are so just so we're clear you guys are defending hitting children. Look, everybody has their own. Whatever you want to do. All right. Within reason.

I don't know. Within reason. All right. I'm just saying at age, poor thing. She gave him like one slap. I know. It was joke. Give me a break. I'm actually pretty. Okay. Kyle talking about how Carly was unconscious every time they've had sex. You know what? I don't know what that meant. I don't know why that was in there. They need to be there. I don't think they needed to mention them having sex. That was very odd. I agree. That's all I got. I mean, the kookers named Karen. I know that age well. That name has a just will just that name, you know, down Karen. Just Karen. Kookers named Karen. Is that all you got? I don't. Yeah. No, I mean, I think you guys had it. All right. The rough little Hannah Rubeneck Partridge award for overacting. It's a comedy. Yeah. Like Molly Shannon is like fucking going for it, but I would argue it works. But she is. What do you have? Highlights of the movie. I don't remember what you're talking about. Deke, can you remind us? Where did I have that?

Because I want to make sure she was my deon waiters. She just fucking goes for it. You're getting ahead of the categories. Yeah. That's what you wanted you to do the quad. Do the goddamn thing. I know I was waiting, but I'll try. I'll say hold on. Okay. So overacting. Yeah. She's drunk and ever seen. Yeah. She's belittling her husband's career choice. He's like, this is my life. She's. She goes, okay. Okay. I was like, I will tell you the one thing about coming to these races. The vibrations. Oh, the cars. Why? I just love. She's like, shake it. When those cars. We're. I realize I've been saying it wrong. It's whiz by. Oh, which is great. The murder. We're running up my legs. Larry Dennis, like looking around. Nobody is watching. I like the silverware clattering. The other motor. Okay. Hi, Fetch.

So I realized that the Flex categories. I copied and pasted your email wrong. And there's like 30 more that I realized. Okay. So I'm. I was like, Oh, I thought there were more of these. So can I. Can I crowd it? Can I pool now? Sure. Because I was kind of like, why weren't there more of these? I just found this out. What did you have before that? Before I had. I was. I was like, well, I was going to be like a race. Like a race horse name. Okay. But I also just only found the first seven. And I saw that there were three more pages of Flex categories. I like how there's. There's a whole smoking subcategories. Oh, yeah, sure. Of course smoking. Should we take this opportunity while Bill's not here to just go through these Flex categories? There's like 40. I know. I realize. No, we're not going to go through 40 categories. The. We can skip it. No, I don't want. No, I can't skip my Flex category. I know. This is a disaster for you. No, I know it is. What are some of your favorites, Craig? Um, the, the Sean Fantasy stealth movie homage that gives you a criteria orgasm.

I don't even, this probably isn't referencing this, but there's a scene when Ricky Bobby signs a woman's chest. And it's exactly like Happy Gilmore when he signs the one. Oh, right. Yeah. And I wonder if that is referencing that movie. That's good one. Yeah. Type it says. The Sean, the Sean, I'm glad I just, Sean, I brought my own pack award excellence in on screen smoke. Yeah. That just makes me laugh as a, as a single. Did you think that? Did you think that John Gerard was good at smoking the little petite long cigarette? I felt like he, I felt like he didn't. No, five out of ten. No, it was a bad cigarette. So that would be the Tom Cruise, which end do I light award? Yeah. For terrible on screen smoking. That's right. I wanted to ask the question about what exactly that it's a book about medals award award was. Yeah. Is that just like when you rewatch it, you're like, oh, they're setting something up. It's supposed to be a plot for its rewarding. It's just a quote that's good later. It's, it's a quote that didn't stand out the first time you watched it. But upon the 20th viewing, you're like, oh, that one's actually great.

I want to give it to is psychosomatic. There you go. You can start a fire with your thoughts. Great one. Okay. Actually, let's take it. Wait, the other one I have the best name for racehorse. We talked about Ricky Bobby, but you know it has not come up in this episode yet. A little bit of shake. That's actually shocking. Shake it back is good. Is that a catchphrase or epilepsy? Shake it back. What does that mean? What does it mean? Great one. I kind of think a horse named shaking bacon. I do not say shaking bacon. I don't know. Or the magic. That's fucking crazy. It's like, I'm going with LDO blow. What's that? It's like a fighting chicken or something. I'm going to talk. I love each other so much. Next good fight chicken or something. All right. We'll take a break and then we'll be back with the hottest take. The CR things Luke Wilson could have been Harrison Ford hottest take award. DK, you got one?

I think we should start an ask our pod. The three of us. Yeah. Why not? Get into it. Start now. You just want to feel the vibrations. I want to go to a fucking race. I'm going to get drunk and watch NASCAR. Kind of. And vibrate in your chair. Laughing clown. Licker laughing. What is the hot take? You want to start NASCAR pod? You just want to watch NASCAR. I'm like, maybe NASCAR. You can turn it on. There is no hot take really, I guess. It's just that NASCAR is actually way better than I thought. Oh, interesting. Yeah. Okay. You're going to start getting into it. Have you ever watched a NASCAR race? I have actually watched NASCAR back in the day. Okay. It's kind of crazy to actually go like 500 miles. That's insane to me. Yeah. But yeah, it's kind of fun to watch. All right. Hi, Vets. Tough to follow that. I want to watch a NASCAR race. My how to take this is the funniest sports movie. Never made. Yes. Like period. I mean, if you want to be like catty-shack sure, but 21st century draw the line.

But I think we all love Happy Gilmore. But I actually think if you show someone Happy Gilmore now and they're 40, it might not be that funny. This movie holds up. You didn't just have to be 11 years old to see this the first time. I think this is my favorite and the funniest sports movie. Waterboy. We have Kingpin. Longest Kingpin. Longest yard. Catty-shack. We have the other Will Ferrell movies, Blades of Glory, kicking and screaming. Semipro. I think second is. It's locked in at second. I would not put it above Happy Gilmore. I think it's more universally loved than Happy Gilmore. And I think it's probably an easier, an easier sell to somebody. I think if I had to show Happy Gilmore or Taladek into somebody who hasn't seen either, I would be more confident that Taladek would hit. I think Adam Sandler is a lot like Jim Carrey in that whatever you saw before your brain was sealed that like 21 years old is forever. But after that, it's just hard to break in. And I, we watching this. I was just like this movie every part about it is still incredible. Dodgeball also there. Yeah. That's a good one. My heart take is that this movie has aged better than Anchorman.

I think it has. I think the humor in Anchorman. It's like varied that era. It's more esoteric. Yeah. And more specific to that era than Taladek and I it's which I think plays way better now. And I think Anchorman is a much more famous movie. I think looking back on it is more beloved. But to be honest, I think if I go back and I watch Taladek versus Anchorman, I am. I like Anchorman because of my memories of watching it and the humor at the time and the jokes I would make as a 12 year old. But I think Taladek right now is funnier than Anchorman right now. I think. I agree with that. I don't. But that's why it's a good take. Like I think a lot of Anchorman is like. It's that like really kind of dry, Ron Burgundy improvised sarcasm. Real bits of Panther like shit like. Yes. 60% of the time every time. Right. I don't know. I think this this humor is bigger and more universal. And I think it holds better. I don't disagree. I always thought I was biased because I saw Taladek before Anchorman. And I just feel like my life is going to be a little bit more. I think it's a little bit more. I think it's a little bit more. I think it's a little bit more.

I think I'm pushing and pushing. Like I didn't like it before. Anchorman. And I just feeling my friends quote Anchorman, or Taladek, or more, and so I was biased, but I do agree with that. I think that can bring the chance of Eashoe documents to a 20 year old right now. versus Taladeka. I think there's a better chance that Anchorman false flatter than Taladega. I kind. I can't see what you're saying. That's my hot take. Here's a half McDowell take that I just thought about what we were talking in. And this might not even be. Close to right, like sometimes I want my comedies to be a little bit low budget and campy and use physical comedy more than special effects and explosions and races and things like that. I did kind of have the thought when I was watching it. I was like this feels like too Hollywood. Too glossy. Yeah, this feels too big. Interesting. And I think sometimes comedies hit harder when they're low budget. When it feels like friends making it in the backyard. Right. Which like happy Gilmore feels a little bit more rag tag. Like there's the only special effects and

that is like the ball like the long drives. I mean it's also it's like a movie about golf versus fucking the car. Right. So I think this one had to be higher budget I guess. But yes. Because if the racing looks really bad in this movie, I don't know if it works as well. It's good that they went to the places and filmed everything. Yeah. I agree with that. That was just a thought I had when I was watching. I was like this feels very like Hollywood. I agree. It touches on something. I find that we over rely on CGI to convey humor now. Like blockers is a great example. It started to like when they were doing things that weren't humanly possible or that clearly looked fake where it was like or I remember in neighbors. There's it neighbors to when like Seth Rogen is sitting on the chair and the chair explodes and he hits the ceiling. Yeah. Yeah. And it looked so fake. Yeah. And I'm almost like I'd rather it be I'd rather you just find a different joke that you can film practically than use CGI. Right. To like deliver something that feels hollow. I was saying this the other day on this trip when we were in Los Angeles. I was saying I think that the spaceship in the beginning of Star Wars and in space Odyssey looks better now than the spaceship

at the beginning of like Avengers. Those are like miniatures that they filmed in real life. Right. It's just on a computer. I agree with you. I'm trying to think of if there's if there's I'm sure there are bad examples where I'm completely wrong on that take. But like for the most part, I feel like I like you when comedies feel a little bit more just grounded in the dialogue and reality versus like the action. Yeah. I mean, honestly, you can extend that beyond comedy now. Yeah. Everything feels like it's filmed inside of an Airbnb now or like it's super CGI and everything is touched up in the background. Everything's like really bright. Nothing feels as lived in anymore. A lot of the streaming movies just like don't look real. And I think it's why I love movies and TV shows from the 90s and early 2000s because it's like. Yeah. And I watch Superb Adam. Like I feel like I'm there at a normal high school. And this looks like how it would look. And now I feel like old school movie. Yeah. It would just like look too shiny and not real. Yeah. So I do agree with you. Casting what if couple good ones for Cal not and it was not supposed to be John C. Riley who like

as you mentioned this earlier, I did not know this. John C. Riley was the originally supposed to be brick Tamlin from Anchorman. Oh, was he. Yes. And he's good because of scheduling. He would have made a probably a funny brick. I think he will. Yeah. I mean, it's crazy to think Steve. It's weird to think of anyone other than Steve Krill doing it. But John C. Riley. Well, what was the what was the like internet character that John C. Riley played where he was the doctor? He's like for your health. And he was always drunk on wine and stuff. You know, I'm talking about. And there's a glee. There was like a whole series about it. I want to say it was I can't remember where where it was based. Get Tim and Eric maybe. I think it was Tim and Eric. Yeah. Yeah. That's good call. But that blew my mind. I mean, I you I kind of can't you can't not be Steve Karel now. Yeah. In the brick roll. But even the funniest brick lines are actually like. Brick held the guy with the trident. Will Ferrell saying that. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like the other than I love lamp. Like the actual funniest things of brick. I love brick. Yeah. Yeah. Um, up for the role of Cal Norton. Jack Black, Billy Crystal and Dennis Quaid. That feels weird to me. Dennis Quaid and Billy

Crystal. I would like to say no to Jack Black. I could see. Jack Black. I think would have been funny in it. I think he's too silly and big. John C. Riley is really good at letting Will Ferrell be the winner. I mean, literally like what Cal Norton is going to do. John C. Riley is good at. Right. Right. It's meta. Jack Black. I think would steal too much thunder. Yeah. Right. You're my best friend. I love you. What? Nothing. Yeah. But I Jack Black. I get it. I understand why that was being considered. Yeah. And then for John Gerard, Michael J. Fox, Seth Green and John Stamos. John Stamos. Yeah. 2006 John Stamos. Seth Green. Seth Green is a disaster. I don't know. That one. Michael J. Fox also feels very weird. John Stamos. I could kind of see. Yeah. I can see that too. Yeah. The good looking slick back hair. The French, you know, thing. I feel like that would play. Yeah. I assume they knew Borat was happening when they decided to cast them in this. It's a good question. I don't know. Because I don't know how long it took to film.

I mean, I imagine this took much longer to film than Borat. Borat came out three months after this movie. He was doing Borat bits for a long time. I was going to say Borat had to have taken long. He is. He had a whole show. The Alley G show. Yeah. So he'd been doing the Borat thing for a while before the movie came out. So he people knew about it. But he was more of like a, like a, I show his popular in the UK more. He was like, he was like, he was going to like an upcoming at comic at that point. Yeah. Yeah. Um. David Cruz, so stuff of, I'm doing my own flex category, which Bill never does. But I'm taking over. The David Cruz, so stuff of Legends award for the character who definitely should have been spun off into their own sequel. Reese Bobby. A whole damn movie around the back story of Reese Bobby. He where he's like mixed up with the Colombian cartel and doing what God knows what? Yeah. Run it. He's like running drugs over the border in a car or something. Yeah. He's drug running. He's doing street racing. He's like knocking women up. I want to know how many kids he's in like 12 kids. Like a real serious prestige TV style, though, where it's not funny. It's just him doing serious shit.

Yeah. Like I would love to, if he had like 12 children, I want him like going to each one and trying to like, and grace you to himself and to their family. I love, I love when Ricky first goes to see him or when he delivers the pizza when Reese keeps ordering pizzas. So he delivers it and he goes, close the door. I closed the door and come in. I got weed in here, cowboy. He punches him in the face. Like, son, did this go well? Look, the first thing he says is how long has it been three, four months, 10 years, 10 years. I got to lay off the pay-outie. Pay-outie. Come in here and close the door. I got weeded here, cowboy. At the end of the movie, he's like, I'm starting to get a little itchy. I'm starting to get a little itchy. The Applebee's waiter. He's so nervous. I said, no onions. I think you did that on purpose. Okay, Joy Pants Award. Best that guy. This will be interesting because typically I have differing opinions than the host of this show. That is my considered to that guy. True quibble with this podcast is just. I try to find it. The standard is insane of like knowing people's names.

Ridiculously high bar. I kind of think for regular people watch movies, the ultimate that guy is actually Gary Cole, where it's like, he's the guy in Veepe and also he's Reese Ricky Bobby's dad. And most people don't know his name, Gary Cole. But I know that that somewhere. He was just here. He was like, well, express. Well, he's in a bunch of stuff. A bunch of stuff. But if he was lumbering and fucking off the space, I think shit lumber, fucker. I think beginner level, it's Gary Cole. Yeah. Okay. I think if you want to go expert level to me, it's it's Ted Manson is chip. Oh, I do not know that guy's name. But every if I see that guy, I go, oh, that guy from Taladek grandpa from Taladek Knights. Yes. I don't think anyone knows his name. And then the middle level is the guy who's on the race crew. That's also in forgetting Sarah Marshall. David Kekner. Are you talking about he's the one that gets all squirrely when the jazz music comes on? No, not David Kekner. No, I went with Ian Roberts, who is the getter, getter a coffin mine.

Sure. Which is like that. Just so random. He is, by the way, the literal doctor from arrested development. Oh, right. That guy. That is that is the great guy. He's going to be all right. I hate this. It looks like it looks like it looks like you. That is great call. I'm sure Bill Christian shine will be mad at the Gary Cole selection. Yes. Well, I'm saying the other way. I know he's Gary Cole, but I do think no one's like that guy. Oh, obviously, Jack McGrayer, who's I think you see he's he's he's also in 30 rock. But I'm like to people know that guy's name. Kenneth from 30 Rock. Yeah, exactly. I would argue that Larry Dennett, the guy who plays the son. That guy's a back guy. His name is Craig German. I'm sure people would be like, no, that of course to me. That's a that guy. Anyway, all right. This is the most important category of the show because this is a real like five headed race. Dion Waiters award. We have Molly Shannon, who isn't like two or three scenes crushes. I ever single one of them. She's always like tenderly touching the guy from Halliburton's face.

I love. He's a kiss on the mouth. I love right before that. Right before that. So good. I was like, you won't let me see you naked to her. And just under his breath right before the executive's walk. And he goes, it's not a fear thing. It's a trusting. It's so good. You're afraid of letting me see naked. It's not a fear thing. It's a trusting. I think Amy Adams definitely qualifies. Oh, yeah. Do not think she's in the movie that much. And she speeches. Speech is iconic. Yeah. Grandpa chip. In the mix here. What was the line he said? I'd forgotten he made this line. I was like, the mouse is fast, but the owl can see it night. And then he like laughs at him. I can't remember what the exact one. The field mouth is mouse is fast. I don't think Gary Cole qualifies. This was going to be my question. I think Reed Gabby is in it too much. He's here. Yeah. He's my thing with him. I forgot until prepping for the show that he come. Like Reese, it's weird. He starts the game, which maybe is bad for the Deon Waiters award.

Yeah. He starts the game on a 12-0 run. The first 15 jokes of this movie are just Gary Cole. Literally he does. And maybe it's too much for Deon Waiters, but Gary Cole comes in and says, 10 years, I got to lay off the payote. No smoking in here. He's like, don't worry, darling. I'm a volunteer fireman in front of the fifth of the five year olds. He's like, I'm a semi professional race car driver. And an amateur tattoo artist. Fastest who gets paid and the fastest who gets laid. And if you ain't first your last, that's the first four minutes of the movie. All of that is in his same scene and then he leaves for an hour. I also love that he's, every time he gets kicked out of places, he's always resisting. He's got to be so many, I'm a veteran. I'm a diabetic. He's just screaming at him like, my veteran. My veteran. He's kicked out of the elevator. He puts his two feet up in the door, Jim. He puts his two feet up in the door. Then he pulls away his like, see him when you're growing up. But then he's gone for like a full hour. I think it's too much. I think he's important of a character.

It's like, it's like in the Godfather, you know, Vito Corleone is not in the movie that much, but he can't be the only one. If we're calling Reese the Godfather of Teller to the United States, then I'll... I'm just in runtime, you might be right, but I think he's too important of a role. So I would also give you Michael Clark Duncan, Rest in Peace, who is awesome in this movie. Our sponsors will shit a chicken. And then really many one, I did not know this until doing the research. The original driver for Dennett Racing at the start of the movie, Terry Shavo is Adam McCann. Yeah, I was going to bring that up. I know that. He's like, hold on, I got to take a piss. I think he is so funny. I was going to be like, who is this guy in this place? It doesn't matter, Lucius, we're in last place. Relax. Geez, I got to take a wizz. Geez. Get off my ass. That is so fucking funny. You're going to check these burgers are really good. He goes, I'm going to make a phone call. Let me eat this. Then I got to make a phone call. Then I'll be back. It means like I got to make a phone call during a race.

I think he crushes it in his definition of like one scene. But what do you think it's Molly Shen? I think it's Molly Shen. I think so. Okay. I agree. Molly Shen. All right, recasting Counts director of city. I don't have anything. I would not recast the director. I would not recast any of the actors. I don't think maybe small stuff. And then the city, it's like, it's mostly filmed in North Carolina. They're on actual racetracks. I don't have a ton here. Christopher Nolan apparently loves this movie. He does. He just said that. So remake. That's interesting. Like a remake. Like a kid here, anything? Like reboot it into a very serious. So you know how the old Batman movies were like campy and whatever. He dark night. And then he dark knighted it. Dark night, Taladega nights. He should do days of Thunder II. Taladega, you're right. There we go. I think that would be fun. I agree. I agree. I think they're too directed by Christopher Nolan starring Tom Cruise. That would do it. Sign me up. Yeah.

I don't, I agree. Like the cast is kind of perfect. I would like to see Tim Robinson do something like this, but that. The only person that I felt like could go. And say Richardson. Yeah, he'd maybe be Cal. Yeah. The only person that I was like watching this movie and was like, could they go toe to toe with Wolf Errol's or is like, I kind of was wanting to Danny McBride. Couldn't try either role. Yeah. But I don't really want to change it. I was like so from that era though that it doesn't. It's like too close. You could have swapped Danny McBride maybe for for John C. Riley, but I don't, I don't need to change. I think our movie kind of crush again. Half-hour internet research. We talked about a few things shot in North Carolina mostly. They got a lot of real life tidbits from NASCAR drivers and commentators. Some of which are in the movie like Earn Hearts in the movie. I mentioned that John C. Riley was in both days of Thunder and this movie. Sony did not actually charge Brent Sony, the studio that made the movie, did not charge Brent's like Wonder Bread, Old Spice or Peri-Ey to feature their products in the movie. What? Yeah. Okay. So that was going to be my answerable question is how much did they pay and you're telling me that they paid nothing? They didn't charge. What do you, how does that work? I actually don't know and I wonder, I don't think that would be the case today.

What do you mean that they just put, because here's why that's funny to me. And wonder Bread's in every fucking scene in this movie. There are times where there are 12 logos at the same time and wonder bread and they just got that for free. Yeah. And then the brands promoted it apparently, which obviously I get. Yeah. That's shocking. A special time. I don't know. Things were different, no six. I guess. I don't even know that it's not like it was 1974. So Budweiser is just everywhere and they're not paying a dollar for that. Yeah. All right. That's shocked me. Because I, all right. So stepping on it, but on that, one of my probably unanswerable questions was, is this the most product placement ever in a movie? Oh. That's a good question. I mean, NASCAR, part of NASCAR is branding. They'll sponsor ships. It's all sponsorships. I think the answer is probably yes. I, you know, it's hard to make those claims. I mean, there's the, there's the Wainsworld. It's kind of just, yeah. The Wainsworld joke is more, it's kind of condensed to one scene really. But this movie, it's ever present. I'm just shocked that it was free. I guess they felt that they would have to like it give up creative control for that much

brand. But I just, I don't know, just a slip. You guys have any other half-ass internet research? The Will Ferrell's dad played it. He's a Jacks and keyboards with the righteous brothers for like 20 years. And his song, he has a song that's in this movie. Very cool. His name is Roy Lee Farrell, which is a great name. Kind of like a, this feels like it's made up for this movie. The other thing that I thought was funny is there was an ESPN article from 2016, Ryan McGee, and he talked about how Will Ferrell and all the guys from the movie got like a test drive on the track to start out. And they were going like 70 or something, like not very fast relative to what these guys are doing. And they were like terrified. And then when they did the scene where Will Ferrell's trying to come back, he's going like 26 miles an hour. He was like, that was like kind of an homage to that experience. He said it was like literally what happened. Yeah. The cars were the other way. They were like, they have a fan. They were like, they have a fan. Where does the other car?

What the hell? What the hell? But no, apparently what happened, so they booked this place. I think, I forget if it was talented, it was probably Charlotte Speedway. And it was like Richard Dent training Academy. And they took them there and they had that book for three hours. And then John, and then Will Ferrell did a run for 60 seconds and came back and was silent and white as it goes. And you know how hard it is to get Will Ferrell to say nothing. And then John C. Riley got in the car for 60 seconds and they came back and he said nothing. And they're like, we're going to go. And they left. And Adam and K is like, we have two hours and 53 minutes left here. And they like got to the car. And John C. Riley was like, we can't beat Pussy's. Like we literally out to a race car movie. We have to drive a race car. And then they like begrudgingly went back. But they wanted to leave. But NASCAR is a sport I would say I'm the least interested in participating in. Sure. If somebody was like, you want to hop in and fucking race car? I think I'm good. I don't want to do that. Yeah. Any other. The other one that I thought was funny when I saw this was Gary Cole and Jane Lynch who

are Ricky Bobby's parents in the movies in the movie. They are 11 and seven years older than Will Ferrell in real life, which I love. Also this is super random. I just forgot to talk about it earlier. But the line where Jane Lynch is recounting his conception. And he's like, what where it was like in some Texas Roadhouse after a lot of. Ruffler Stakehouse. Stakehouse ladies room. He chose me and then Will Ferrell goes, a lady's room. I just thought that was such a good live. I love. He's room. Jane Lynch, we didn't talk about her lap, but she's awesome. And she's always good. She's always like, jam like fantastic in this movie. But even the little things that you talk about lines that you like, forget and then we were watching later. It's like, but little second scene like the baby's born and she said, I'm going to go get some milk and cry. I'll be right back. The other half incident research is the gray scene that dinner scene took a whole day. And there apparently will Ferrell's feeding lines to the kids and multiple shots of the road.

And obviously the camera operator, I assume is not always calling cut. The camera operator had to say cut because he was laughing so hard. He was shaking the camera because it couldn't contain himself. The kids are really good. They got really lucky because you never know with kid actors, both of them nail it. There's the, I love them, the K style. I know we kind of talked about this, but like where they're doing like just like 10 cuts, 20 cuts like Renaro just like feeding them lines and stuff. There's a famous blooper reel from Anchorman where they're talking about Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd are talking about what breast implants are made out of and they're like just riffing and whatever. And then in the background, so they're like, yeah, it's apparently made from like cottage cheese or whatever. They say a few different things and then he's like, you can see Paul Rudd's trying to think of something. In the background, you can just hear Adam McCay go, nickels. And then they're like trying to get through the scene by saying nickels and it's just like, I'm like, being on the set with that group of people would have been like, like Michelangelo

painting or whatever. That should be the hottest take is they should, there's, fuck, the Zack Snyder cut. There should be McCay cuts. Like would you not want to watch like this, this seven hour cuts, especially when we shouldn't release it. It's been 20 years later. Yeah. I mean, another mini hot take is sometimes I like watching the bloopers just as much as I do. Oh, kind of. Bad mood just put on bloopers. I think he'll talk about this before, but like there needs to be a 2B channel that's just bloopers. I'd watch that. Yeah. 100%. He met at times. I'll just like Google the office bloopers or always sunny bloopers or something. It's amazing. The darkness is creeping toward you. Whether you know it or not, body so good, you're going to want to talk to it. Oh, God. There's just so many quotes. Real simple, son. Colombian band. Colombian band band. Monday the car. Time to be a man. Apex mountain. Will Ferrell. It's right around here. It's really. Yes. Right.

Well, I think stepbrothers. I think you could argue it could be elf was just after SNL and elf was massive. And then it was like, okay, well, Ferrell's now. But this movie was huge. Stepbrothers, you just like, oh, four to eight. Right. It's hard to say exactly whether it's like this stepbrothers or elf. Do you think this movie is bigger than stepbrothers? Like from a not necessarily like how much money it made, but just from a cultural where it stands. I do. Okay. Oh, interesting. I'm not sure. I think Talda is bigger than stepbrothers. Culturally. But, but elf, I think, is the biggest movie. He's like commercially. Yes. I just, I don't know. I mean, this movie, I'm a guess elf made more money. I don't know. I'm not going to sit here and pretend to know exactly how Apex mountain works, but I just feel like off this, the whole point is, will Ferrell again, they literally pitched this on six lines, on six words. Will Ferrell drives a NASCAR, who's an NASCAR racer? Isn't that like the premise of Apex mountain? He had so much juice. They're just like, don't say like check.

Isn't that like the hypothetical question Bill always asked and like, that's the literal story of this. That's pretty. Yeah, but you can argue, he can only do that because of what he did before. But yeah, like, you know what I mean? So this movie is, is because of his Apex mountain, he gets this movie. Kind of fucking ice. Oh my god. Well, because this is coming off of Anchorman. And then he's like, like it's, but then he knows the Anchorman and back to back years. But didn't this make more money than Anchorman at the box office? It did. I also assumed that this had made a ton of money on the sponsors. And I guess that throws me off is I assumed the box office was way under counting. I assumed that there was like 50 million more dollars from Wonder Brad and Budweiser and all these other sponsors. It's hard to tell. He comes out of SNL. He does old school elf in Anchorman. And so you could argue it's right then. But then I guess he does Tal Degenites. And then two years later, he does step brothers. Maybe it is Tal Degenites. The point is the two year window, it's probably right here. Johnson Riley. I would say yes, because I believe this movie greenlit him getting his own star role in

a movie, which is walk art. And he never really had that again. And although he's had a great career. He's done amazing good movies, Boogie Knight. He's been into a bunch of stuff. But doing this and then getting your own lead comedy role, I think it's got to be now. Yeah. I can see that. NASCAR movies. This came out the same year as cars. Right. You can argue 2006 was the apex for NASCAR. Oh, easily. I was just going to say NASCAR. See that. I don't think we're qualified to answer that. But I do think the NASCAR movies is true. I think I read that. This is like who knows? I'm not a close follower of NASCAR. I don't know where it is right now. But I read that viewership peaked in 2006. Really? That was NASCAR. It was number two to the NFL in terms of live watching at that time. Number two to the NFL. Wow. And I don't think it's, I don't think that it's at that point anymore. And then we got F1 kind of coming in and stealing some of his thunder. Yeah. It's a lot like premier league coming in and people are gravitating toward that. But I do think NASCAR and maybe NASCAR the viewership and NASCAR movies for sure.

Because the other reason, the other thing that stands out on our rewatch is how few drivers are in the movie. You have Dale Earnhardt, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. for literally about five seconds. Like, don't tell, like it was a metamon. Don't tell the other drive. Yeah. But like that was, it was very real because their NASCAR was very, it was kind of a risk for them to allow this because they were very much like, are you making fun of us? Are we in on the joke? Are you laughing at us or with us? And it worked. But I feel like everyone was all the drivers basically were like, we don't want to be part of this. We're afraid we'll be like, maybe sponsors. Maybe sponsors. That might have been why they didn't have sponsors that paid is because I think a lot of sponsors for the real cars were concerned that it was going to be bad for their image or whatever. Yeah. I think back in the day, it felt like sports leagues were more open to letting their like, miss be involved. Now I don't, you don't see it as much, but like, you know, you watch Ace Ventura, the dolphins are like, sure. Yeah. The NFL today would never. No, it doesn't happen as much now. Amy Adams, no. Sasha Baron Cohen. I mean, I mean, four, three months later, it has to be right now.

Yeah, literally three months later for Borat. It's probably after Borat comes out, but this year for sure. Yeah, I mean, I mean, Taladegan Borat in the same format period is pretty crazy. It's crazy. I was going to say shaken bank, caught a big apex mount for shaking bank. I thought about that. Are you talking about the product or the? Well, I looked it up. I apparently shaken bank. It has exploded in the last like 10 years. Really? I don't like it. I don't. I wrote down shaken bank, but then I was trying to figure out like just sales by year. And apparently it's just gone up a lot in the last like 10 years. No, it's, it's not a big towel. Come on. I'm open to that. It's one of the most iconic phrases of a really popular movie. It's not now. Have you ever been shaken bank? No. No, or whatever. I think so. Well, I'm not like, I'm just saying I looked it up. If you smell a nice crispy, delicious mouse, this podcast is not your tailpops. Little bit of shape. I love it.

Does the end. Put it in the oven. Put it in the oven. A little bit of shape and a bank. Sideburns in movies? Yes or no? No, the America has to be gangs in New York, Billy the butcher. He had that on here. He was the best sideburn of all time. No, four. Yeah, it was no four. Listen to how you meet him. It's shit sack. So give a fuck about your moral conundrum. Wow. Okay. It's a girl. Come on. I don't know. These sideburns, everyone's got sideburns. There was a lot of sideburns. Cranky, it wasn't real. It was a real thing that was people were doing. Sideburns were a thing. Jack McBrayer, I'm saying yes. This is the first year of 30 rock. He became Kenneth for 30 rock. Two years later, he's been forgetting Sarah Marshall and 30 rock still going. You could argue it's then right around now. Gary Cole had a great run in VEEP. He's done a lot. Hard to kind of pick what that would be. Jane Lynch did Glee.

Yeah. And role models. Yeah. I forget when that was. I'd probably say Glee for Jane. I think it has to be. You got any others? No, I just wanted to make sure we just acknowledged help. Fucking big Sasha Barronco. It was in 2006. Cruiser Hanks as Ricky Bobby. It's got to be Tom Hanks. Tom Cruise did the NASCAR move. It's got to be Hanks. I agree. I just don't think he would be funny with Tom Cruise. Is the right fit. Hanks, I could actually see doing the Southern. He has the accent. Over the top, like American race car driver thing. Like Forest Gump adjacent. Yeah. Yeah. Forest Gump later in life becomes a NASCAR driver. Oh yeah. He's driving the little fucking lawnmower, but actually just wants to go fast. With that said, if Cruise did it, he would actually drive the car. Then you could probably get some insane shots of him, like actually racing up like Dale Earnhardt. But it's got to be Hanks, I think. Picking Knits. Look, this is a comedy about a race car driver.

Sure. Hard to get too specific here with with with with quibbles. Well, the one the only thing that I think about is like, when Ricky is down on his luck and is out of NASCAR, isn't he still incredibly rich? Where's all his money? Kale took it. Why does he have to go deliver pizza? They literally said the number 21.6 million. This year, he made $21 million that year. I think Carly was. She took all the money. It was all under her name. He had no money. Like I love it. I think Kale and Carly embezzled all this money. He took his house, took his wife and his money. Yeah. You ruined him my last. I just love that he has he has to go like living his mom's basement and deliver pizza three months after being the most famous driver in the world. There's nobody. I love that one. Could I do a commercial? I could never thought of that. That's funny. Yeah, I'm not actually like, you're not gonna overthink things like the Cougar in the car. Those are bits. A Cougar would kill you. It would probably kill you. There's also no Cougar's in North Carolina. Well, he didn't say we're no crap.

We got it from. He did he that's true. He did just say he trapped it. Been feeding it old pizza. Maybe he trapped it in somewhere else. I love when Ricky comes back home after his long days like got mold by a Cougar. Ruined my shirt. I'm sure got mold by a Cougar. Only knit I'll have that actually as I watch it I'm like bothers me is they opening part with the owner of the dad. They're like, I love Ricky Bobby. And then they just transition the sons running the team and they never actually acknowledged that the dad was gone. Yeah. And they never just like just running the team. But I don't think he's dead. I was like looking at up to I was like, why? I assumed he dies, but he really does it. He's not dead. Like in the in the lore of the movie. I don't know, but I don't think he dies. It was like probably one scene that they just took out. And it was there was a continuity thing. And it just they just were like, it's not. They needed like the rich spoiled son to take over. I just assumed that there was a scene they cut where he does. I thought it was kind of like a, this is a nitpick. It's like they, the reason Denet Jr. moves on from Ricky is because he refuses to win the points title.

It's like a huge. It's like, okay. Is the only other big one I had. I'm like Ricky's winning every race. Yeah. He like flipped a guy off and lost some points or whatever. Yeah. Scottie Sheffler is the grand slam and he's like, I'm not going to win the FedEx title, but I Ricky's also a huge dick to it. Yeah. I do understand that a little bit, but it's like, okay. Well, the only other thing with it is, this is not a nit, but it's just upon rewatching it a hundred times. I'm like, I kind of forget sometimes that the race, it's not really for anything. In Taladega, does it have a ton to do with this movie, other than just being the ending? And it's a good name. And it's a great name. And it's kind of like the joke in Seinfeld where they make the, it has to be titleists for creating the golf ball. They have to be that. Like Taladega to my knowledge and ask for it doesn't necessarily be like the most important race. Yeah. You know what I mean? And it's, and I don't think I ever thought about that. Like call Taladega nights. And I'm like, it's kind of just the next race after he has a mental breakdown. It's more personal stakes than it is actual professional. Yeah. There's zero. Yes. Okay. Sequel prequel press, these TV all black has are untouchable. This one hundred percent could have been a sequel.

And I'm glad it's not, but they could have totally done it. They thought about it. McKay said they had an idea where Ricky Bobby goes to Europe to do Formula One. That's what I really do. Yeah. And it's like Ricky Bobby in Europe. That's funny. But I think that still might happen solely because now they would get all the sponsors and they would get to pay, kind of like Happy Gilmore to like all the people you could get involved. The drivers Michael Jordan would probably do a NASCAR KMBO or you get Formula One. Like a lot of people more friends would pay to be in that. Yeah. Oh, McKay and Farrell, I don't know if they would, they would do that to you. Oh, that's true. Well, hasn't done a ton of like true sequels. They did anchor back to Zoolander to happen. They both. Daddy's home too. I'm glad that Farrell and McKay have not really together ever made a sequel. Yeah. Other than anchor man too. Because it's just, it just, it never, it usually doesn't work. There are certain types of companies like the Austin Power parody movie Spoof's you can do more of like naked guns. Like comedy is about, like, you know, subverting expectation. You can't do it twice when you know who Ricky Bobby is. It's just, it's not going to be the same. Yeah.

Um, so I would say untouchable. Is this movie better with Wayne Jenkins, Fergie, the floor is Zane Low, Robert Evans, Dr. Charles Nichols, Ted Levine or somebody else? God damn Ricky. I didn't know it was working with Magic Man and LDablo. I was just going to throw in Tom Brady because I was like, I can't, I wouldn't be going to do Zane Low. I'm not going to do Zane Low in disrespect CR like that. Like you just, I'm trying to, it's a no much. I know I'm not Chris Ryan, but I just, I wanted him to be with us here in spirit. No, it's good. The bird falls aware of the show. He was, he was, he was asked about it. He knows that CR guys. Ryan Jenkins, which is incredible. I was just thinking of what if Tom Brady was doing the play by play. He's like, we got a lot of juice here for team, Dennis racing KB. We are watching some high level driving out there on the track today. Great stuff, KB. KB, well, it seems like he's going backward. KB, I love a competitor who I love that he's just, he's never giving up KB. He's not on fire. KB. He looks to be on fire, but he's not. It's all mental. It's in his head.

Just one Oscar who gets it. It's well, Farrell. So I admittedly, I'm not Chris Ryan with the impressions that I'm not showing fantasy with the Oscars, but I had to ask you a question. Okay. So this year, so this is August 20, 2006. Yes, it'll be a seven Oscar. February seven Oscars. Was Mark Wahlberg was nominated for the departed? Okay. As a supporting actor at the Oscars. Is he actually better in the departed than John C. Riley is in Telleting? I know comedy that doesn't happen. That's the good. Of course not. There's probably, you can pick three comedies every year where somebody is putting on an incredible performance. They don't, they rarely nominate comedies. I know there's like five spots and they should do more, but I just also, I mean, but if you had to give an Oscar, you would give it to John C. Riley and it's not Will Farrell. Well, it's the rule. Give him an Oscar in this movie or is the rule you have to pull the Oscar from that year? No, you are the Academy and you can give an Oscar to whoever you want. It can be the script. It can be cinematography. It can be an actor. The lame answer is the sound is actually shockingly good. The NASCAR, no, it's fucking lame. You know what I'm thinking about.

The sound you're going to give it to the sound over Will Farrell. Well, so you're saying I don't, I have to, because who won the best actor that year? It doesn't matter. Don't, don't, the Oscars don't. It's if you can give it one Oscar to anyone in this movie or any thing. Yeah, it's Will Farrell. Okay. I thought you were asking me to pull the like the Oscar away from force Whittaker, the last king of Scotland. I'm like, okay. You think you deserve that? I actually, I mean, it can't be. Come on, man. It's a good, it's a good role. Probably unanswerable questions. So kind of what happens with Colin Carly now? I know. I was wondering about that. Carly kind of slips away as this movie ends. They kind of just like don't it's because it like what's going to happen to she. I'm assuming she would leave Cal for a different driver. Yes. So it happens. I have imagined so. But Cal, Cal won. Yeah. And he still has his sponsors in theory. Oh, that's a good question. But now, Cal and Ricky are friends again. I think they just go back and they just kind of get over it. But Ricky's got a new girl. You know, they have sex. Susan. Yeah. Digit now. I wish I was there for that. That's like an insight. That's like I always say that shit with my friends.

Oh, I wish I'd have been there for that. Well, because I feel like the whole movie, there's this subtle, he'd have like Cal kind of being into the two of them. I feel like, I feel like, Cal and he's like, I'll hold her hair. Yeah. And when they're making out, he's kind of into it. Yeah. Yeah. So what? Yeah, Carly's just, I think they say together. I think they could be a thruple. I feel like Cal would want to stay together. Yeah. Yeah. When Ricky would Ricky allowed Cal to date, Carly. Yeah. Yeah, because he started for, he felt bad for making him get second the whole time. This should have been my flex category, which is the dentist peck relationship test. Okay. But it really will count, not in test this relationship. And no, I actually think they could be a thruple and be totally fine. What about Susan? Oh, fuck. That's the ruffle. Uh, I feel like he should just be with, maybe they could just be like, I think it's Cal stays with his wife and then Susan. Still living the house. It's so hot. It's all fine. That's the smell. I want to see, by the way, the horror movie. It's just about the haunted house. Get out. I think Carly's dating Dale Earnhardt in a month. Oh, yeah.

Jeff Gordon. Um, all right. My next unanswerable is, does the slingshot actually work? I was going to ask that too. Is that a real shake and make thing? A hundred percent. This is the entire tour to France. It's just, it's like you're just drafting off of them and then you go around. I don't understand how that makes sense. What? This is how Geese fly. It's like you're breaking up there. That's how Geese fly. Do I need to say that? Obviously. I don't know. But the fly. It's, but in a V famously. Yeah. But it's because the most effort is the person at the, the, the, the crook of the V. I have to say that the person in the front is taking the most wind. Right. And that the person behind is not receiving any wind. But the second they go outside, don't, doesn't the wind just hit them immediately? Wouldn't that slow? I don't get it. There's a, I think there's a brief vacuum of air that happens. Where you set them at a time. Your velocity can keep up despite moving into the tunnel of wind. Famously I'm a scientist. Think about a boat. Think about a water for a second and your boat. We're really having a wake. The disruption. Mm-hmm. And like that, but that's happening in the air. Yeah. But you're, if you're behind, if you're in the wake, behind the boat, I get it. But the second you leave the wake and you're now just like everybody else, why does it shoot

you so fast? And does this happen in NASCAR all the time? I don't know. I mean, this was happening in need for speed. So I assume. But, let's ask someone who knows about physics, not hyphids. I mean, toward a France, this definitely happens. My question is why don't they do this in horse racing? Whether or not team-made, team's horses. Like, gang horses work together. I mean, maybe, you know, two running backs, one should just run behind the other. Oh, like a full back. That's good. Full back for the air. You know what I mean? Yeah. Maybe Deandre Swift should be behind Kalmanandai. Like a push to the dish push. Yeah. That's good. Justice Hill behind Derek Henry. Slingshot. Something like that. What do you think? I had the same question, Craig. Yeah. Slingshot engage. My unanswerable questions. I have, how many people do you think have been conceived in a russier steakhouse bathroom? Okay. Probably hundred ladies room. The ladies room. He chose me. I asked you before. I do wonder if it's the most product place we've never in a movie. That's a good one. I want to know where I can find the Cal spread for Playgirl magazine.

He said he pulled his butt cheeks apart. I wonder if he's... My concho. My concho. There's a world in which that has been, that's a real thing that took place. Like, they filmed that just for fun. That photo shoot exists. Oh, 100%. Like Adam and Kay has that in his garage. Right. He's just filed a lawsuit. He's just got him everywhere. It's called Boogie Nights. The other unanswerable question that I do think is important is like, do you think Ricky's right about the praying to baby Jesus thing? Like Jesus, obviously, baby. I think you can pray to whichever version of Jesus you want. I agree. It's kind of a good point. Yeah. It's very open of him, actually. Yeah. He's like, you're Jesus can be whatever you want to be. This is my Jesus. I'm really afraid. I can't even think yet. Don't even know a word. Newborn baby Jesus. I love it. I love how he's like, can you please heal my wife's father chip whose leg? He has his horrible, horrible leg. It smells terrible. You'll think you've ever done this make a hot daughter. The dogs are always bothering with it. Horrible leg. Horrible leg. The dogs are always bothering with it.

Uh, uh, okay. Almost done here. The memorabilia you'd want most. I think it's got to be the wonder bread hat. Hmm. See, I had that for Halloween. So I kind of, it's like 40 bucks. So I kind of want something like the car. This is memorabilia. You get the real one. The real one. What's the matter with this? What is hell, man? I don't know. I think I want Will Ferrell's crystal gale shirt. Hmm. Uh, I kind of want the cougar. The cougar mannequin. Oh, like the, like the stuffed cougar. I want both. I want the real cougar. Like people got those in the real cougar. It's first of all, it's probably dead. I think it's dead. That's too bad. That was 20 years ago. What do you think I put the car? Where is that car now? It's probably in a back lot somewhere. That's what I want. You want the car? The old sunset gower. They had all these random cars from other movies parks. And I was like, man, no one's using those. I kind of want that car. I want Game War and Wonder Bread suit and hat and, and, and, and, and, I want Game War and Reese Bobby's wardrobe. He has some great clothes. He does. You just want a six pack of the malt liquor. Hell yeah. I love when the cougar when it's clearly this.

See what you're talking about. It's even funnier. And they're like adding in like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, yeah, they're adding in like, like, growls. It's fun. It's fun. Uh, Mr. Miyagi Award for, uh, Best and Worst Life Lesson. I think there are two life lessons that, that are in conflict. And we have to decide which one is the ultimate and during lesson of this movie, which is, is it either are you first, you're the first to last? Or is it you could be second, third, fourth or fifth? It's the latter. That's the point of the movie is Rick. It's, it's, you can be second, you can be third, you can be four. No, but the point of the movie is, is you should be winning for yourself, not for anyone else. You should do it because you love it and it's for you. And I think that's the obvious lesson of the movie is you can be second or third. What if you had to click first or last or you could be second, third, fourth or fifth, which lesson would you go by? This, you could be second, third, fourth or even hell, even fifth. That's Luzor mentality. Yeah. It has to be the lesson of the movie's first to last.

Greatness was built on first to last. Sure. Um, the other lesson that I thought was very poignant in this movie is sometimes people don't change. Reese Bobby. I mean, he put out tickets for him every week. The entire his whole life. Do you, when he sells the tickets, that's a rule. The scalping of the tickets immediately after finally showing up is the best bit I've in any movie ever. 60 bucks a pot. Oh, it's not even that much, buddy. Dude, it's so good. Because I imagine we're fantastic. I believe you get some tickets for me. He just watches from outside the fence. When he's tickets, Reese Bobby has great. I always admired his like hitchhiker mechanics, the thumbs. Oh, yeah. He's natural. Yeah, his man. He's cool. He's just like, it looks really good. And he's doing the both ways thing. Oh, it's so good. It's great. The way he's like watching from up in the behind the stairs behind the fence afterwards and like shaking his, his can. It's always like this is not his first radio. He always has like backwash left. Hey, dad, where are you going? Does it matter?

Yeah, kind of like unexpectedly heavy. That's the for moment. It does hit best double feature choice. I'm going to go blinds of glory. Really? I feel like it has to be anchor man or step brothers. No, I want Wilfero playing sports. I know that's what that the Wilfero playing sports thing does make sense with plays of glory. Yeah. I want Ferrell and John C. Ryan. I think I would rather watch anchor man. Yeah, tell it again. I'd sew together. I think you do anchor man. Yeah. I think it's anchor man. Also cars was released in the same year. That could be something. Can you touch me together? It's just the classic cars to tell a lot of ways of thunder. Lights of glory is underrated. Lights of glory is funny. That was good. Yeah. All right. Last but not least, who won the movie? I think it's Ferrell. I think it has to be Wilferrell. Not Cal. Got to have sex with his friend's wife. Constance for he got his house. Yeah. Yeah. Then he won at the end. He won the race. Andy has all the sponsors. No, it's Ferrell. Ferrell is.

Yeah. Yeah. Over. I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, Ferrell, if you could combine, then you would do that. But it's got to be Ferrell. Who's like the biggest movie star in the world, basically. The finding on the guy. Those were the days. Will it come back? Yeah. God. I don't know. I hope. Okay. We need a couple of things. We need like an obsession style comedy hit, whereas like some movie made for five million bucks pops off. It'll happen. Or we need Shane Gillis. And whoever to be like, screw it, we're doing a huge comedy. Poor Knollos does. Yeah. But both need to happen. The YouTubers are just making movies, man. This is the beginning. Yeah. There was some report about Shane Gillis doing some big comedy in the next year or two. Oh, interesting. Yeah. I saw in the Hollywood Reporter or something like that. Well, you said your favorite movie, your favorite comedy of the last like 10 or 15 years was, what was it? The invite? What? No, what was it? Well, the invite came out this year, which I thought was amazing movie. Really funny.

Seth Rogen. Yes. But it, that's like more of a, that's not like a big broad comedy. Not an ensemble comedy. No. We need like separate others again, things like that. This was fun. Dan Kelly. See if we'll be back on this show. We'll be on the fantasy show though. Listen to that. This is going to, this is like, it's Labor Day. This episode is coming out. So it's the same day as the take perch on the fantasy football feed that we do. So check out the take perch, which is kind of all professional credibility is suspended for 60 minutes. And we give takes that we've been holding on to all off season. And then we'll be with you throughout the entire NFL season. Four shows a week. Four shows a week. Fantasy, the fantasy off season is finally coming to an end. Well, I know. You guys are headed back to your homes. Sad. Yeah. We spent a long time together. 11 days. It's the longest we've ever spent together, right? I think we did this last year. I think we did. I think we did. We did. We did. You were home. We were traveling for two weeks. Is that right? You were going on the tie. And you're home. Well, I've treated you to some nice dinners. I'll take you to the west side tonight. Sure.
