Believe it or not, that's the battle that's going on right now and I'm going to bring you that because I think local politics are super important. So we're going to get to that later in the show. Also, NBC is reporting that the price of oil is breached,

2:00the $100 threshold Wednesday as new flare ups in the United States war with Iran stoked fresh concern for global energy markets. Honestly, what I think happened is that about three months ago is the last time that these prices were this high and that's when they started pillaging Venezuelan oil and when that didn't work out, Trump started pillaging our reserve and I think that that's finally running out. It's catching up to him. But prices didn't stop there. They continued rising throughout the day. The international benchmark Brent crude jumped 3.3% to end the trading session at $101.21 a barrel. US crude oil ended the day higher by 3.2% at $96.5. For both critical oil benchmarks, this is their highest closing levels, like I said, since May, end of May. Now on Wednesday, President Donald Trump said that he believes gas prices would come tumbling down below $2 a gallon, but not until, quote, right after the midterm elections. Sure, buddy. And from the post, European law enforcement agencies are chasing leads from the US

3:04investigative files on deceased convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and they say that one year one year after the first batch of files was released, the Justice Department has yet to respond to their requests for help. So they're not cooperating because Todd Blanche is a co-conspirator in the cover up. And I spoke to Miles Taylor, who was at the opening of the library, the Trump Epstein library reading room in Dallas today. The Trump administration says it's going to make an announcement about the future of the program at an appropriate time, but right now, the temporary protected status still stands. This is a

4:06shocking level of callousness. It's like a sort of damocles hanging over these people's heads, who have been here for 25 years, over 100,000 people, just absolutely horrific. Next up from Axios, which is, you know, direct line to the Trump administration. Axios has learned that Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman is preparing to make a bombshell appearance Wednesday night at the Republican Convention, the midterm election convention. In a video praising President Trump and Republican Senator Dave McCormick for helping America's steel industry, apparently. So he's going to change parties bet, right? We got to maintain our two Senate seats in Georgia and Michigan, and instead of just flipping four seats to get the majority, we should flip five because I think he's going to change parties. And if he doesn't, we need to have that extra seat to just get around him and make him irrelevant. You can't impeach him. You need two-thirds vote in Senate to expel him. That's not happening. There's no recall mechanism for United States senators. You can't kick him out of

5:07the party. There's no mechanism to do that. He's there until 2028 unless he resigns. So we got a neutralism. We got to get those five seats flipped and maintain the two in Michigan and Georgia. First up from Democracy Docket, the Missouri Supreme Court, the state Missouri Supreme Court gave the state's top election official until 1 p.m. Eastern Wednesday to explain why he should not be held in contempt for violating the court's September 3rd order, preventing him from using the Jerry Mandered Republican Congressional map that will give Republicans an advantage in November midterm elections. The court zeroed in on an email sent Tuesday afternoon by Missouri Secretary of State, Denny Hoskins, a Republican, two election officials directing them to use the Jerry Mandered map. Hoskins sent the message after two conflicting court rulings that afternoon through a year-long battle over the map into chaos. Now first, US Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh denied Missouri Republicans request to pause the state Supreme Court's order last week, barring Hoskins from using the map in the general election. The justice issued no rationale for the decision. It appeared the Jerry Mandered would not go in

7:13and its opponents had resoundingly defeated it, but then minutes later, a federal district court judge, a Trump appointee, granted a temporary restraining order preventing Missouri from using its previous map. Despite the conflicting federal court orders and the state Supreme Court's still standing ruling, Hoskins immediately decided to move forward with the new map ahead of Missouri's deadline Tuesday for finalizing ballots in the general election. Quote, information provided by the litigation team is that the federal court's ruling based on federal law takes precedence over the Missouri Supreme Court's order, which is based on state law. That's what Hoskins wrote in an email to state election officials Tuesday night. This is in accordance with the US supremacy clause. No, that's incorrect. Missouri Supreme Court Chief Judge W. Brandt Powell quickly issued a court order asking Hoskins to explain himself and scheduled a hearing for Thursday morning. Quote, this court should make clear that regardless of other orders except from the United States Supreme Court, the Missouri Secretary of State must comply with this court's injunction. The court should

8:14instruct all local election authorities that this new map is not the law and has never been the law. People, not politicians, the group leading the fight against the map, the Republican map filed an emergency application Wednesday evening asking the Supreme Court to halt the federal district court's order blocking the state from using the map other than the gerrymandor in the upcoming election. The new one you could use any map but this new one and that filing came minutes after the three Republicans on the eighth circuit refused to get involved saying they didn't believe they had jurisdiction to settle the dispute who was actually kind of a weird thing. It was a weird ruling from the eighth circuit court of appeals. On one hand, they were like, we don't have jurisdiction because you can't appeal a temporary restraining order. You can only appeal a preliminary injunction, right? Or a permanent injunction as we've been saying for so long. The Supreme Court has been going along with that particular rule as of late but they also said, or we don't think you can have this stay. We don't think it's good on the merits. One of the other,

9:15that's what they said, which was doing a lot of weird work there. All right, next up from the Washington Post, President Trump gave $45,000 in cash gifts to Natalie Harp and two of his other young loyal White House employees according to financial disclosures released by the administration. On these disclosure forms, which were released publicly late last week, the three women described the payments as cash gift for holidays. They give some out to about a third of the $150,000 dollar salaries they each earned from their White House positions according to an annual report to Congress. Richard Painter, the former chief White House ethics lawyer for President GW Bush and a critic of Trump, said their payments appeared to violate a federal statute that prohibits the supplementation of federal employee salaries from outside sources. Quote is clearly trying to make it easier for them to financially work in the government service at the White House. That's what Painter said. You can't do that. A White House spokesperson denied that the payments violated any rules. Quote, the President has a long standing practice of giving Christmas gifts to people in his orbit, including at times employees with nades, both in government and in his time in the

10:19private sector. That's White House spokesperson Davis Engle. He went on to say the gifts that issue here have nothing to do with any of these individuals official government duties. Oh, really, what do they have to do with them? And therefore, our entirely permissible under relevant legal and ethical standards. No, they're not. The three recipients of Trump's gifts didn't immediately respond to request for comment. Trump also gave $45,000 to Margo Martin, a 31-year-old communications advisor who often gets closer to the President than his secret service detail to film his daily activities for social media. And Chamberlain Harris, a 26-year-old White House aide who serves as Trump's executive assistant. Trump in February appointed Harris to the US Commission of Fine Arts, which has oversight of his White House ballroom and other Washington area construction projects. Yeah, 26-year-old. Okay. Well, Nada, the director of Oval Office operations, reported a $20,000 gift from the President. Nada, who gets $175,000 a year, also accompanied Trump on that catering truck in Turkey. He served as valet in the first Trump White House and was a

11:21key witness and co-defendant in the Justice Department's probe of Trump's handling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago. And from the Wall Street Journal, oh, this is so sad, live golf, the sports upstart originally backed by Saudi Arabia, filed for bankruptcy on Tuesday, all but closing the most tumultuous period in the history of the game, four years after the group briefly tore it apart with an unprecedented influx of money. Nellieg said it has between 500 million and one billion in liabilities, between 100 million and 500 million in assets, and is seeking to restructure financially after filing for chapter 11 protection in New Jersey. Nellieg has been on life support since earlier this year when Saudi Arabia's public investment fund lives longtime backer abruptly pulled its funding. Just yanked it. Despite its deep-pocketed investors who helped lure star players from the PGA tour with eye-popping guaranteed contracts and enormous prize funds, live hemorrhaged cash from the outset. After plowing over $5 billion into live since it teed off in 2022, the Saudis decided the golf league was no longer a priority.

12:26And now the golfers who bolted two live for its seemingly bottomless coffers have a new role. They're now lives biggest creditors. Two-time major champion John Rom, heads the list, according to the league's bankruptcy filings, the documents say Rom, who joined live in late 2023 and said earlier this year that there were still years left on his contract, is owed $7.4 million. That number doesn't reflect the full amount Rom is owed on his contract, according to people familiar, but just what has accrued so far. The top seven creditors are all players, including Bryson, D. Shembo, and Dustin Johnson. Live estimates that in total there are between a thousand and 5,000 creditors. A filing capsis stunning downfall for a league that sowed chaos in professional golf from its inception, initially led by legendary Australian golf or Greg Norman. The league attracted the likes of six-time major winner Phil Mikkelsen and those who joined faced blowback from the golf establishment, including Tiger Woods. Lives players were accused of helping Saudi Arabia

13:28whitewash its global reputation after incidents such as the killing of journalist Jamal Kashoggi. Live always said that its only mission was to grow the sport globally. Well, you've wrecked your reputations, players, and you're not going to get your money. So fuck you. Next up from Reuters, this makes my day. This just makes my day, you guys. Social media influencers and rabies sex traffickers, Andrew and Tristan Tate lost their bid for release from a Miami jail on Wednesday as they contest extradition to Britain where they're wanted on rape charges. Magistrate Judge Lauren Lewis denied bail for the tape brothers following a hearing last month in Miami Federal Court. Andrew Tate, who's 39 and Tristan, who's 38, were arrested in Miami on July 18th after Britain requested their extradition to face charges of rape assault and facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation. The tape brothers who have dual US and British citizenship have denied any wrongdoing. The arrests marked a new phase in the legal troubles for the former

14:30kickboxers who have built a large online following promoting their views on masculinity and wealth. Andrew Tate is previously described himself as a misogynist. The Tate's recruited dozens of women to work for webcam pornography businesses starting in 2014 and later ran online courses called Hustler's University. Prosecutors with the Miami US Attorney's Office said this in an August 10th court filing. The prosecutor said there's a strong presumption in favor of detention in international extradition cases. They say the Tate's could pose a danger to the community of released citing British authorities allegations that they strangled victims during forcible rapes and that they could try to flee. They are a flight risk. Prosecutors also pointed allegations by authorities in Romania where the brothers faced human trafficking charges and sought to influence witnesses' statements while released on judicial supervision there. They are witness tamperers. Romanian authorities say the Tate's threatened to release private information about victims in bribed and alleged victim. Now the brothers' defense lawyers have said in court filing there's no need to keep them behind bars while the extradition process plays out

15:35because their extraordinary public visibility would make it impractical for them to flee. And as we know they also said their wealth is fake. They rented the Bugatti's and the Lamborghini's. That yacht they said was theirs. It wasn't theirs. None of its theirs. They don't have any wealth. They can't afford to flee. They're not a flight risk. So they expose the Tate brothers as giant grifters and fakers and liars all in hopes to get them released on bail and they failed. I have many times if I said it wouldn't it be so great if they expose the Tate brothers for being fake rich assholes and they had to stay in prison anyway. Now the defense argued they brothers regularly appeared in court in Romania and the witnesses and the Tates were alleged to have bribed were women who wanted to speak on their behalf and said the Tates helped coordinate their travel to Bucharest and hired lawyers for them. Yeah that's called buying their silence. That's

16:39called witness tampering. Quote the Tate's compliance record is clear in convincing evidence. They're not a danger to the community. That's what their defense lawyers wrote and they proposed that Lewis released them on the conditions that they postponed surrender their passports and submit to location monitoring. The legal process for determining whether the brothers may be extradited could take months. Britain has until September 16th to submit its full extradition request to the State Department. US court records show the impetus for the brothers arrested Miami was new charges brought by Britain's Crown Prosecution Service relating to alleged offenses involving four new victims between July 2010 and August 2017. They had previously faced rape and human trafficking charges in Britain related to three other victims. A British judge issued a warrant for their arrest in 2024. They have not appeared in British court to enter a plea to those charges. So Britain is seeking to extradite the brothers to face both sets of charges. So your little fake rich plea that they weren't a flight risk didn't work and they have to stay in prison. I love this

Very interesting local story in Ohio right now. Republicans are actually trying to defund the police. Republicans in Geoga County are trying to defund the police in Russell Township. And the person trying to stop them right now is an elected official of the Russell Township Board of Trustees and the first transgender woman ever elected in Ohio. So this is quite an interesting story where we've got Republicans in Geoga County trying and asking our next guest to please not come out and tell anyone that they're defunding the police. And I wanted to talk about this. Everybody please welcome Russell Township, trustee Amy Hootmaker. Hi Amy, how are you today? I'm great, Alison. Thank you so much. And I

20:53noticed during that intro that you even have a little smirk on your face like this is some alternate universe where I landed in a world where the trans woman, liberal Democrat who's the first elected in state history is fighting for the police department that are voters here and residents of vote for consistently for over 60 years. I'm just left scratching my head at this one. Yeah, it's a head scratcher. Paying a picture for me, how many people live in Russell Township? We're a little over 5,000 people so we're not too small, we're not too big. We're about 45 minutes east to Cleveland in Geoga County. We're right on the border with Kyahoga County. So we're a very affluent community, believe it or not, our average household income is over $100,000. Yeah, we have money here. And we have a lot of people that doctors, professors and very high tech professionals. A lot of medical people here with the Cleveland

21:56Clinic, UH and other medical facilities. Cleveland Clinic, yeah, okay, so that explains it. At least a little bit, but what a very interesting group of folks there are 5,000 about in the Russell Township. Now, talk a little bit about first, I believe the Russell Township voted for a levy. That's a tax to fund the police to the tune of about $3 million there in Russell Township. Is that correct? So, yeah, so last year they was passed a levy, which is our property tax, and our township is 90% reliant on our property tax coming into our coffers. That's our biggest funding supply. And so it's about a $900,000 year tax. This year, it's going to collect about a million dollars. And then over the year, it's a continuous level. So every year to collect 900,000 to a million, depending on home values, things and things I'm not going to bore you with today. But now all of a sudden a year later, our county budget commission has decided that

22:57we don't need this money for the detective we hired for new police cruisers, for a new roof on the building in 2028. And our police station turns 20 years old in 2028. So it's going to start needing some major infrastructure updates as the building ages and we want to stay in it and extend the building. So taking $2.8 million out of our police budget and our reserve planning, we've planned and saved for this. So it's kind of oxymoronic, but at the same time, one of the persons on the budget commission, the county auditor, was our fiscal officer and implemented this reserve and saving strategy and is now actively working to dismantle it. I don't know. So it was Russell Township that voted with this. It's Russell Township's property tax money. Russell Township is paying for this. How can the county, Geaga County, which is by the way

24:00fully run by Republicans, right? Yeah, how can they come in and just take your money away? And what do they want to spend it on? So over the last couple of years, there's many huge drive in Ohio to cut property taxes and even the Republican running for governor right now, Vivek Ramaswami is saying that he wants to eliminate income tax and slash property taxes. Those two things just don't make mathematical sense. Governor DeWine actually said earlier this year, nobody's coming to Ohio with our low income tax rates. And your taxes are too high. So it's a red herring argument all around, but part of this drive to give red a property taxes, the house has implemented new bills here that has allowed the county this year, especially to really go after Township and school district funding here. And so this is part of that mechanism and it's part of this drive to Ohio. I see. So what you're saying, okay, is that the

25:03Republicans, because they want to slash property taxes, you're going to have to cut spending. And so they're going after Township spending. Township spending and in this instance, the police department specifically, specifically money you all voted that was cool to raise through a levy from your own home property taxes in yes, Russell Township. So a year ago, we approved the levy by 40 votes. So now it's let's just cut all that never mind that their voters approved it. And I have friends and neighbors here that oppose the levy, but they're like, I don't want to defund our police or get rid of the levy and our budget that we put forward this year actually cut almost a million dollars in property taxes. So it's not like we're unsympathetic to the argument. We're at a point where it's like one million cut sensible, three million, now we're approaching three million. Now we're talking about, you know, potential job losses,

26:08you know, service reductions and infrastructure issues. Yeah, right. Put just had a financial cliff that's totally can be avoided. Yeah, I have it here that the police district operating fund would end 2025 at about 840,000, 850,000. Yep. Then it would fall to 175, 175,000 by the end of 2026 and only have 24 days of reserves, meaning the police department. Yeah, additional funding. That's that's defunding the police. Well, not only that, but this is what was given to us last year as a community and to the board of trustees to justify the levy. So then that 840,000 dollar number you just quoted, we actually ended last year 65% over that number. So the person in charge of those numbers, I started asking questions, so many questions that our system prosecuting attorney told me I could no longer email our fiscal officer about these

27:11questions. So it started redirecting them in our open meetings for the record. And then she resigned at the beginning of May, our fiscal officer whose husband is the county auditor now, who lost his primary bid, but that won't go too deep into those weeds. Then she stopped coming to meetings, left office on June 5th and gave us no fiscal support to put this budget together. But the tradition here in Ohio is the budget is put together by the fiscal officer, then the town boards approve the budget and appropriate the money. The ORC, though, says it's really up to the, so we just turned us all upside down and backwards this year with no fiscal officer support. We think we did the best we could. We put together a package that was almost a million dollars in tax cuts, but yet now here we are at this place. Please don't read a blog about me, defunding the police. I'm like, don't worry, I won't. I'll just come on, I'll just come

28:16on daily meetings and talk about it. Well, I think you should write the blog too. Yeah, I probably will. But you know, and by the way, that's something we should inform everybody listening. You had written up this whole blog about, you know, transgender liberal Democrat is crying out about the jogga county Republicans because they're going to defund the police. This is what you told me before we hit record and that you wrote this whole blog up and that they called and begged you to not publish it. Yeah, right and no, right in a budget commission meeting that I didn't attend, the county prosecutors like, please don't write a blog about me, defunding the police. I'm like, then don't defund the police. Then don't yeah, I mean, I so this is what they don't seem to don't forget about me is my undergraduates in radio TV film. I have a master's in counseling and I have an MBA. So I know how to read the balance sheet. I know how to create a story.

29:16And I know how to read a room. Yeah, and I know what you're doing. Yeah. And I'm going to tell everybody what you're doing because it seems you know, let's say they wanted to, you know, we're going to stop doing property taxes and going forward that budget won't be there. But to have already raised the money. Yeah. And appropriated it, you know, or thought of appropriating it to fix the roof, get new police cruisers and do all these things that you're talking about. It just seems weird to claw back money in a backwards fashion from stuff that hadn't been in place when that money was raised and the people voted for the levy because they wanted to strengthen their police force in the township. It's just bizarre. So girl, write the blog to like put it out there. Make sure everybody knows what they're doing. Yeah, yeah, sure, you know, Vivek Ramaswami wants to get into a bad engage and take a swing at property taxes or whatever the hell he's doing in that new commercial. But you know, let's be, let's be real here when you're clawing back the money

30:17in this particular instance, you're taking it out of Russell Township's police force. Yeah. And there's some, there's some other things maybe targeted at the road department, but not, not the austerity level, three million dot right. Yeah. And so this is, this is some kind of weird alternate universe I've landed in here. And from what I understand is me putting up a mirror to it isn't going over very well, but that's okay. If this is the hill, I'm going to die on as a politician. Fine. If it comes down to defending our essential public services that the voters approve last year, then that's where I'm at. And I'm not, you know, if I'm missing something in this narrative, let's sit down together and talk about it. There's this made for team, may daytime made for YouTube element that they're putting into this and just talking down to the people in these budget hearings.

31:19And I work a five figure job as a mental health therapist. I don't, I'm not going to take off time from work just to go be talked down to. But I've sat down with everybody on our side budget wise and nobody can reconcile how we are so far apart on these numbers. Yeah. And that's the frustrating part. Well, and Amy, you know, I know it seems like this weird sort of the tables are turned now because of who is defending the police and who is defunding the police. But in reality, what it comes down to is that the people that you represent, the constituents of Russell Township voted for this, whether it's to fund the police or whether it's to fund a snowmobile or snowplow or whether it's to fund whatever it is, it is your job as their trustee, their fiscal trustee, to make sure that what they voted for and what they

32:20wanted is put into place. So honestly, the fact that it's just Republicans defunding the police is sort of just like a this extra weird bonus thing that comes out of nowhere because no matter what it is that the people you represent wanted to fund with this levy, it's your job to make sure where every dollar is, where it's going and whether or not anyone's trying to claw it back. So I want to thank you very much for bringing shining a light on this. I know we don't get a lot of attention into these local politics, but really appreciate you coming on and explaining it. But local politics is to me the bench for county, state, federal and one of the things that we look back over the last 20, 30 years and I think where the Republicans have outdone the Democrats is getting into the judicial and the local governments, school boards, city councils, all supervisors, all of that stuff. So getting involved in running for office is one of the most

33:29important things we can do in starting to learn these things. I looked around last year, there was one other Democrat on the board. He was retiring. He'd been in public service for 50 years. And I have the honor of filling his seat as another Democrat, but I looked around and said, if not me, then who? And I won by 200 and some votes. So roughly 33% I won by in small Russell township in a township that, you know, two years ago, went for Donald Trump by 55 to 45% and a year later, I win a seat here. Well, you're doing an incredible job for the people who live there and I hope they know it. Tell everyone, where's this blog? Like, if you do publish this, where do we follow you? Recognizing the failure of accountability, representative Thomas Massey and Rokana have introduced the Epstein Transparency Act 2 seeking greater transparency and accountability surrounding the Epstein files. We'll have a link about that in the show notes. And it here is what it says about it. This bill gives standing to state attorneys general the victims of Jeffrey Epstein and his co-conspirators and members of Congress to sue, challenge the Justice Department in court for the DOJ's failure to comply with the disclosure of materials required by the Epstein Files Transparency Act. It currently has about half the required 218 signatures to successfully bypass Mike Johnson and make it to the floor. It's called a discharge petition and you can contact your representative in Congress and tell them to sign if they have not already. Let them know we demand transparency and accountability. Virginia residents especially middle school teachers and youth leaders do you know a civic-minded 13 or 14 year old? If so please encourage them to apply for the page program for the Virginia House of delegates. We need to train our future leaders. Students who are selected will join a cohort of 32 young people to work for the state legislators in Richmond, Virginia for seven weeks while living at the Omni hotel from Sunday to Thursday night. Do they have to be 13 or 14 years old? Can you accept 52 year olds by chance Janine? During the day they're supervised by two staffers and they get assigned jobs throughout the General Assembly building in the capital. They learn about the legislative process while getting paid as a state employee plus a perdium for food. At night they reside in the Omni hotel and are shaperoned by me and my husband. We had a data center moratorium rally and a lobby day at the capital in Salem. So I drove down from Portland, Oregon to support and get into good trouble. We talked with some of our legislators at the Capitol about putting a three year moratorium on all new data centers here in the state. We know that technically this will be a bandaid fix but we want to be able to do our

40:48dandas to putting good regulations and guardrails for all these fucking piles of tech garbage they call data centers. During the rally our governor came out and pretty good support for the moratorium even though she kind of had to after the Republican gubernatorial candidate put out an attack ad saying she rolls out the red carpet to data centers. We could only hope that she is honestly listening to the constituents rather than just trying to stay aface. At the end of the day we just definitely cannot have any Republican ass hats being controlled at this state that has been attacked so much already. The result of a rancher from Eastern Oregon who shared a story of doing water testing around these data centers and the data came back with highly contaminated water from people's wells in the area. The fact that this is a tipping point and both sides are in it I'm glad that we're doing all we can here in Oregon to not let dandas centers be completely unaccountable. There's a lot to do and the fact that the handouts that these trash heaps have gotten could have paid for healthcare food schools across the state it's appalling. As with most things in this country currently it is welfare for the oligarchs while the rest of us are out here trying

41:52to survive late-stage capitalism. I'm just happy I was part of some of the people showing up to cause good trouble at the capital today.
