7News Just In — Teen charged with murder over drone surveillance hit. Machine-transcribed; use the interactive transcript above to jump the player to any line.
But evening, there's been a major breakthrough in the murder investigation of an innocent treaty at Maryland. A teenager has been charged with murder 10 days after the mistaken identity hit on Joshua McDonald. 18-year-old Jimmy Schultz was arrested yesterday, accused of flying a drone in the driveway ambush. Police say they found him surveilling a second possible target. And when the drone was seized, allegedly found evidence connecting him to the Maryland shooting. It came as police saturated Lecembert today, as a father killed in a hit at Punchbowl this week, was farewelled. A sea of mourners carry a casket down the steps of Lecembert Mosque. Inside, father, brother, boxer, 32-year-old Lewis Mehan, gunned down in a Punchbowl car park on Wednesday. In the crowd, two sporting grates from the boxing fraternity, friends, Sunny Bill
Williams and Anthony Mundey. Every time we have these funerals of these shooting victims, this chaotic stuff, it gives me anxiety. Mehan, the latest casualty of Sydney's exploding gun violence. And whenever I had encounters with him, he would say good words. But unfortunately, upon Allah, it was written for him to pass away the way he did. His killers on the run, links to Barkey gangs being probed by police. But I can't say that we are doing everything we can task force-fapping itself has resulted in over 700 or 800 arrests in the last 12 months. Deaths like Lewis Mehan's have forced police to put extra resources on the ground in southwest in Sydney. Today, they announced the arrest of an 18-year-old accused of being the eyes in the sky for the Maryland's west murder of Joshua McDonald's 10 days ago. Once alleged while this outy was sitting off Bruce Street, a drone was flying overhead and stalking the house, feeding information to these killers.
Forty-year-old Joshua was not the intended target. Police made the arrest of the alleged drone operator Bidwiltine Jimmy Schulls yesterday morning. At 4.30, around the west-Hochston area, residents called police to report a suspicious drone. An hour later, they seized it and arrested two men charging Schulls with murder and a 19-year-old with participating in a criminal group and driving on a suspended licence. Police say enough evidence was found on the drone to charge Schulls with murder over the Maryland's ambush. They believe a second hit near west-Hochston could have been on the cards. We have foiled a potential crime that was to occur or may have occurred at that location. They are young, they are naive, they are ignorant, they are not very intelligent, unfortunately. Live 2 Rex Quail, now Rex the 18-year-old has just appeared in court. Well Angie, just moments ago, the 18-year-old bricklayer Jimmy Schulls was refused bail
in his first appearance in court. He was represented through legal aid and his lawyer outlined that he was contracted by someone else to conduct the surveillance on the Maryland's west house. But argued he had no evidence that Schulls knew it was being used for a murder. The court also heard that Schulls put the drone up six times above that Maryland's west house in the days before the shooting, the next date for court for him is the November 5 in Paramount at local court. And Angie, the police are saying that it could be a busy few weeks for arrests. The doctors are saying that the intel that they now have is that time is ticking for these criminals. Rex Quail, thank you.
