1:24

1:56
That's what we're going to talk about today.
1:59
Tell me something good, right?
2:02
Why I tell her now a Houston Texan?
2:04
I've been against it.
2:05
However, this is not going to be a why did the Texans do this type of conversation.
2:11
It would absolutely be centered around.
2:14
Let's talk about the vision and how the Houston Texans can execute what they are planning
2:18
to do and the team that they're planning to be in 2026.
2:22
Also what's next for the draft and I got to end off the day show, giving kudos to Nick
2:29
By the way, did y'all like how I opened up the show?
2:32
Tell me something, tell her, tell me something good, why it's, why it's a why it's a why it
2:37
tell her kind of putting that together.
2:40
Some of y'all may get it, some of y'all may not, but I am your Texas credentialed media
2:43
member of football analyst, John Hickman, and I'm super excited for today's show.
2:48
I got out to my every day is from the Himalayas for making the life on Texan podcast.
2:52
You're first listening of the day, and for being a part of the life on podcast network,
2:56
your team every day.
2:59
So let's dive right into Texan sign veteran guard, why it tell her to a two year deal, $16
3:05
million work up to $23 million.
3:07
We're looking at eight point, we're looking at eight million per year when his market value
3:14
before the signing was hovering around 10 million.
3:18
So you're looking at Houston getting the $2 million discount, again, Kudos to Nick
3:24
I've been against to move for four while now from a standpoint of, listen, why it tell
3:30
us age and injury really concern me, and we are a long way from 2021, 2022 when he was
3:39
at his peak of being one of the better guards in the NFL.
3:46
Now when I look at that, and he's a Houston Texan now, I'm not going to, I'm not going
3:50
to go on the run up.
3:51
This is the wrong idea.
3:52
This is the wrong move.
3:53
This is the wrong signing.
3:54
I'm not going to do that because all of that said, I mean, hey, man, I think this is
4:00
an attempt from Casario to rebuild what was a failure 2025, 2024, 2023, the Texans have
4:09
been in last place or close to the last in the league in terms of rushing success.
4:15
And this is a team that says DeMico has arrived, has said he wanted to be a tough, hard
4:23
They ain't going to ever do that, they ain't as much as they say that.
4:27
We believe in mantras and affirmations and speaking it to an existence, well, they may
4:32
finally be able to speak it into existence because Nick Assyrio didn't just speak, he got
4:38
out there and work and put in a work to get it to existence.
4:42
So that's what we're going to look for from the 2026 season.
4:47
But before we even get to a point of talking about what would the new offensive line look
4:52
like, you know, we knew that an overhaul or facelift was needed, kind of mandatory, right?
5:00
After the last game of the year, when they played the New England Patriots and I go back
5:03
to this that eight yards on 12 carries in the first half, right?
5:09
Texas finished that game with 2.2 yards per carry.
5:12
So we knew no matter how it looked, the Houston, Texas had to overhaul the offensive line.
5:18
And in many ways, this would be the third, maybe the fourth time.
5:22
In some way, shape form of fashion, Nick Assyrio has had to overhaul or facelift the offensive
5:27
line since arriving back in 2021.
5:32
The Ohio's track record with a young interior offensive line is far from decent, far
5:39
That's how bad it's been, right?
5:41
So I've always been in the forefront of replacing the weak links on the online with Vets with
5:47
resumes behind them to back it up.
5:53
So regardless of how I feel about why I tell the regardless of some of the things that
5:57
may have come out of some sources and circles from the Cleveland Browns, Assyrio feels
6:06
like with the addition of Teller, with the addition of Smith and Brown and bringing back the
6:12
guys he brought back, he feels like this is his attempt to not hurt Houston's future while
6:17
reclaiming, well, not reclaiming, but fixing what's been an issue since he's arrived
6:24
to the Houston, Texas, right?
6:26
He's riding his wrong.
6:27
This is his attempt to ride his roads and you know what, I can see the vision.
6:32
This move is probably the final move of adding three new offensive linemen to the roster.
6:38
Houston now has Wyatt Teller, Brady Smith, Evan Brown, they added some guys that got some
6:44
camouflage, some overall, some mud boots, right?
6:48
And they got the mud boots type of energy on that offensive line now.
6:52
No more drip, no more dripper drown, right?
6:56
None of that, right?
6:57
And I think that's kind of important.
6:59
The characteristics of what Houston had before compared to what they will have.
7:03
Now I think it's extremely important.
7:06
We've talked about it a lot and this isn't a shot at those guys personally, but the
7:10
Houston Texas offensive line, I'm not going to call it a soft, I'll lead it to you guys,
7:14
but the Houston Texas offensive line, when you look at what they failed at the last two
7:19
seasons, but specifically last year, that was a terrible short yard that you weren't
7:24
It's not as hard to talk about it in a locker room interview that I had.
7:27
Well, he wanted to get better at it.
7:29
He put in the work to get better at it.
7:31
However, he'll be better at it and Cleveland, hopefully.
7:34
But in short, yard of situations, we will see this offensive line routine lose reps,
7:39
especially against elite tackles when they came to whenever the Houston Texas play elite
7:45
You look to see out of game, when you play against Jeffrey Simmons, Chris Jones, the
7:49
featuring game and the playoffs, there's another game that I'm forgetting.
7:54
But you're looking at the camouflage energy, the mud boost overall, like those guys are
7:58
going to come in and take pride in just being nasty blockers on the inside, they want
8:03
to move a body, right?
8:05
And that is important.
8:07
This is a team in Houston that rushed to ball for 3.9 yards per carry last season, had
8:12
a high stuff rate of 21% second worst in the league, when a rushing success rate of 34%
8:19
I think that was also a second worst in the league as well.
8:24
The hope is Wyatt Tiller at left guard, Ingram and right guard, and the best man at center,
8:29
which I currently think is Evan Brown, who do Houston Texas sign to a one year deal.
8:36
The hope is they will be able to change that for the Houston Texas.
8:42
The hope is, with Tiller, he provides the consistency and a stronger foundation for the young
8:49
book area and tertiary and provides balance to that left side of the offensive line.
8:55
And also the hope is David Montgomery, right, when he used to take the train for the hope
8:59
is he feels at home, right?
9:01
I mean, you build the offensive line to fit any scheme.
9:05
So for Kaylee, play calling isn't limited like it was in 2025, right?
9:10
And also for Montgomery, he can be the back Houston needs.
9:14
The preseason goal for the O-Liong to stand should look like this.
9:21
Taking the Russian attack from 3.9 yards per carry to a 4.3 yards per carry, they may
9:27
not seem like a huge jump, but that's a realistic minimal yet impactful jump from year to year.
9:35
And last thing I want to leave you with, right?
9:39
Here's another goal of the Houston Texans, right?
9:41
We get to the preseason and the previous two seasons, maybe dated back to 2023, but I know
9:48
for sure, the first two years with Daniel Hunter, we would come out of the preseason and
9:52
we'll say, well, the Texans offense got their tail woke today, day after day after day after
9:59
day, the offensive line couldn't do nothing with them guys.
10:02
The Texas offensive line should, the two goals should be, we're going to go from 3.9, 4.3,
10:07
and when we train to camp, going up against wheel and the near wheels and the cut track
10:11
year, where he's going to get his money, but the deal just got an extension and that defense,
10:16
we're not going to leave day after day of the reports are getting our tail woke.
10:21
Those are the two goals for this offensive line now, right?
10:24
Let's throw that out there.
10:27
But another thing that I want to leave you guys with before I transition, with a great
10:31
running game, which is what this Houston Texan team is aiming to establish.
10:37
What does that help establish a great passing play, play action game, right?
10:41
In 2025, you want to know who was the best play action quarterbacks in the league, Matthew
10:48
Stafford, 4.6 yards per carry from his backfield.
10:52
Oh, that's what Nick Kelly came from.
10:54
So he knows what a good backfield can do for a quarterback, right?
10:58
Sam Donnell, we know and we saw what Kenneth Walker was able to do in the regular season,
11:02
or so in the playoffs, and they also had Jackson Smith and Jigman.
11:07
So you're looking at Houston, would Niko, if they could get back to a place which I'm
11:12
going to get to, where the running game is opening up so much for their office, this
11:18
could be a completely different offense in 2026.
11:21
And also the third quarterback, Jerk Off, 4.6 yards per carry from his backfield, which
11:29
featured newly acquired David Montgomery.
11:32
So that goes back to the point of making sure he feels at home.
11:37
He's going to come to Houston, he's going to fall a little bit of Houston, he ain't going
11:41
But he don't want to get hit in the backfield often, right?
11:43
That's been a problem for the Houston Texan the last couple of seasons, especially last
11:48
So this is Houston's attempt at making sure that these guys that they're bringing in, what
11:52
they provide is something that can help office blind play to the best of their abilities.
11:58
David Montgomery, Woody Marx, had better run the opportunities and also to the quarterback.
12:03
What element did the Texas Miss in 2025 compare to Strauss first two years, the play action
12:09
game struggled, right, 3.9 yards per carry, we'll lead to a struggling play action game.
12:16
This is also in a tip to make it easy on Strauss and get him back to a place of comfort
12:22
while also limiting any chance of Strauss having to be Superman.
12:27
So do I love the move, do I love the signing, not necessarily because of things that I
12:32
would tow behind the scenes, but I can't sit here in front and not act like Nick Serio
12:37
ain't put his best foot forward.
12:38
Now, speaking about putting your best foot forward, we have to look forward to the future and
12:46
about five weeks in a field draft will be here.
12:49
Houston got some picks.
12:51
What should they do now that the office of blind feels like everything is shaping now.
12:58
To the best that it could be more like the one Texas talk on today's show.
13:07
But before we get into that conversation, Texas fans, listen, I don't know about y'all,
13:12
but college basketball has been probably my favorite sport of any sport this year.
13:19
That's including the NFL.
13:21
College of basketball has been on a heater this year and guess what?
13:26
It's the time of year.
13:28
That's it up a million miles.

Lockdown Texans dot supercast dot com and like I said, man, I think Duke is going to take
15:50
I think it's out of Duke and Arizona when I watch Duke Playball, it feels like no matter what
15:57
star they play, no matter what offensive pushes be made like defensively, they match any
16:04
offensive intensity that a team throws out there.
16:08
And also offensively for Duke, they give it back, right?
16:13
So I think it's great team.
16:14
I think Arizona is one of those teams where they could just win ball games and win tough
16:19
Obviously, we're in a city of Houston.
16:23
Don't know if they got enough this year.
16:26
Rotations are still beautiful.
16:27
However, don't know if they have enough from flim and as a defender and his consistent
16:36
offensive play where it was me, but you guys are here to talk Texans, not kind of basketball.
16:40
And that is where we're going to continue.
16:42
How does signing Wyatt Teller with the addition of Brady Smith, Evan Brown, re-signing Ed Ingram
16:49
and Trent Brown, right?
16:51
Are you going to say, Urcery is a lock and left tackle.
16:53
You look at the depth you see now has with Andrews, Patterson and Blake Fisher.
16:59
And Trent Brown is a depth piece.
17:00
So I think they're solving on tackles.
17:02
And how does these move impact the draft?
17:08
One thing that Houston Texas ain't done yet, guys, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey,
17:13
They ain't signed a receiver yet.
17:15
And I know a lot of y'all are like, well, they don't need to receive a receiver soon.
17:20
The accident they do, however, going into the draft, it felt like, especially before free
17:30
agency, but really mid to last week, it felt like he's still needed, they signed Brady
17:39
They bring back Ingram and Brown.
17:40
This was before the Evan Brown trade.
17:43
So it felt like the Houston Texans still needed to draft the center and left guard, right?
17:51
Now it feels like the Houston Texans are in a position where they don't have to force
18:00
I think that's important, but before I get to that, Houston can now go BPA, best player available
18:09
because of these moves, or the Texas can get aggressive and move up for a player that
18:15
absolutely has their eye or an offensive playmaker.
18:20
Houston does not have to be tied down to drafting an alignment early with the hopes.
18:27
And Houston Texans have a 28, 39, 59, they got some, they got their first three picks.
18:37
You're looking at 28, 38, and 59, and 69, they have four top 100 picks.
18:46
The Texans don't have to be tied down to drafting two of those four, using those four first
18:54
Two of those don't have to be offensive linemen.
18:59
And the Texas offensive linemen that maybe that they do draft early, that player does not
19:05
have to be the savior of this offensive line.
19:08
Houston can also look at the draft like a chick is a bull, right?
19:11
When they can jump back and forth to create depth on low end, second to late round contracts
19:16
that prepare themselves for the inevitable in a couple of seasons where those big contracts
19:21
are out to Will Anderson, you'll see they shrouded in companies who else, the Texas
19:26
choose to invest in big money to, right?
19:29
So sharing up the offensive line of way that they've done it over the last nine days,
19:36
I think is extremely important to create their flexibility throughout the draft, whether
19:40
that's move enough for Houston to move them back.
19:42
I am a fan of moving up and being aggressive and getting the true office of difference
19:49
And so for the first time, and I'm kind of happy that they played out this way.
19:55
But for the first time, I did my own PFF, my draft, and I told you guys, Houston, Texas,
20:04
right now, currently, they have 28, 38, 59, 69, 106, 139, 165, and 243, that is a very
20:18
separate round pick in this year's draft.
20:22
And when I say, I'm a fan of being aggressive, I mean, this is what I did in my mock draft.
20:28
Got some people up in arms, but it's always great discourse.
20:31
I took the 28 and 39th overall pick, and I traded with the LA Rams for the 13 pick,
20:38
and I would have been got my condolences.
20:42
Again, I am a few of us in my tribe that feels like the Texans could use a difference maker
20:52
And I'm telling y'all, man, just imagine a Y receiver rule with Nico, Jane Higgins,
20:57
Makai Lemon, and Taydale, and Charlie Nol, as your fifth receiver.
21:03
I mean, that's special, and we know Houston don't carry six receivers, so you see a hood
21:08
to sit on his roster?
21:10
That is a great receiving rule.
21:13
That allows for your quarterback to have weapons everywhere.
21:17
And the best version of CJ Straum is when he has weapons everywhere.
21:21
And that's the end of back to Ohio State.
21:23
So that's what the first pick in the draft, at pick 13, at 59, I talked about how Houston
21:28
could draft the offensive lineman, seeing what were in their first couple of picks, and
21:32
not feel rushed to put that offensive lineman out on the field.
21:35
I went with Georgia Tex, Keeling Rutledge.
21:39
At 69, I went with Grayson Halton, the D-Liaman out of Oklahoma.
21:43
Now, some of y'all may not like this.
21:45
I don't have a jersey up anymore.
21:47
But the following three picks, all UT players, that quarterback, Malik Muhammad, at 106,
21:55
at 139, I went with Jack Endress, the Titanian out of UT, and also at 165, I went with Guard
22:03
And with the seventh round pick, I went with Noah Wittenten to run it back out of
22:09
So, I mean, when I say I would love for Houston to get aggressive or getting a playmaker,
22:15
an offensive playmaker, a different smaker, that's what I mean.
22:19
And when I'm looking at how the Houston Texans can still navigate through this draft, they
22:25
still, I still was able to, and obviously this is just a simulator, but you can still
22:29
go big and go home with offensive lineman with their second pick.
22:32
It still gets you a young D tackle that fits into what the program is asking of their
22:38
And don't get bogged up and not get it to a place where this team can't be aggressive
22:44
and make a splash move.
22:46
You have to make a do that, make it absolutely do that.
22:50
And here's the thing with Macau lemon, or here's the thing if it was King and Sadeep.
22:56
Eventually, they're going to have to move on from a dawn shows, if it's a King and Sadeep
23:02
got an organ in the Titanian.
23:05
Eventually, Xavier Hutchison, Tinkdale, they have one more year left on the contract.
23:15
Eventually what's next for Nico Collins, Jane Higgins is your future, unless they train
23:20
them for like AJ Brown or something like that.
23:23
But other than that, it's important to invest in that room when we know this is a passing
23:31
Seeing how hard it is for offices to be successful when your receiver room was weak.
23:37
And in 2025, Houston's receiving room was not that great.
23:45
That is how this draft could pan out for Houston.
23:48
Now that brain is smitten, white teller, Evan Brown, Ursula is on the left side, right?
23:59
The guys are in place, this is how the draft can set Houston up.
24:04
Now they could very well say we want a stud star and they can move up to go get it.
24:14
They can play a safe, they can trade back and acquire picks on picks on picks to create
24:19
that debt where it feels like every next man up is a guy that you don't have a real
24:25
cool wall and they just make a place here there, but eventually like some of those guys
24:29
just don't pan out.
24:30
Some of those guys phase out of the league, star guys, star receivers, and when I'm looking
24:36
for Kyle Limit, I see a lot, a lot of Jackson Smith and Jigman in his game.
24:43
Who threw the chance here in college, I think that was, he's a strong, I think he was
24:50
Yeah, he was strong.
24:52
And he's an interchangeable piece at Y receiver, no matter where he lines up, he can be in
24:55
the back of the plate inside of the house, he's going to, he can move around in this
25:01
They did it with Pook and the Cooler, Kaylee has some experience with that.
25:10
That's not just scary here, let's not get to a place where we put the Texas in the box
25:17
And too often his franchise is kind of considered only off this inside of the box.
25:24
Differently, they're always bold, especially under the Miko Ryan's when they trade up for
25:31

28:08
Just close out today show with a shout out to Nick Cacerio.
28:13
Shout out to Cacerio, man, listen, hey, can't blame him, cannot blame him for what the results
28:26
would look like if it's bad because I mean, he's swinging for the fences here and he's
28:37
He may not get the whole run.
28:38
Are you got a way to the end of the year to figure out if it's a whole run or not.
28:42
But can he break and smit, you know, if he's in the right place and if he's healthy, is
28:58
Same with Wyatt Teller, right?
29:00
And again, I mean, he made me the guy that I'm really looking forward to seeing what
29:05
he does the most, but he got a couple of doubles right now.
29:11
And Brandon Smith made very well be a triple, not a whole run, but a triple, right?
29:19
Wyatt Teller could be a double, Evan Brown, Shingo, right, you're looking at the combination
29:25
of getting a triple brown and adding them back double, right?
29:32
He's in a position where, like last year, he was extremely smug about it.
29:38
We're not worried about the office line.
29:40
You guys shouldn't be.
29:41
Y'all remember that?
29:42
And at the end of the year, the office line was worried, it was concerned, it was bad.
29:48
This year, it's been incredibly intentional to get this office line, office of line to
29:55
a place where it's not one dimensional.
29:58
So we can't come out of this season.
30:01
We come out to the 2025 season and we say things like, what a past blocking improve,
30:05
what's around blocking stills in the gutter.
30:10
He is trying, and not only is he trying, because y'all remember on the podcast that I did
30:21
not too long ago, very, very recently, I said, man, I love these contracts, he's put together
30:26
like, that's not a single contract that is going to cripple the Houston Texans.
30:33
So break the smith to your deal, to your window, right?
30:44
Why I tell it to your deal, to your window, to your brown one, your deal, even brown one
30:51
of your deal, the browns on one of your deals, Eddie Grimm is the only one who went through
30:56
Erskins are already under contract as a rookie, so we know where he stands, right?
31:02
But he rebuilt this office of line, he got how it out of there, and I hope he's successful
31:11
Juice Grugs is out of there.
31:15
He rebuilt this office of line and it didn't break the pockets, it didn't break the bank,
31:24
but he also rebuilt it in a way where, like I mentioned early in the show, the characteristics
31:31
of this office of line is going to look a whole lot different, right?
31:37
Like okay, let me tell us what's already here when the Houston Texans drafted Titus Howard.
31:43
And if he wasn't already here, I can't remember the dates how they aligned, but they were
31:49
essentially, Titus Howard was a young pup when he got around Lamby Tonson.
31:56
Lamby Tonson had already been in the lead.
32:01
How much of Lamby Tonson rubbed off on Titus Howard?
32:05
In a good way, but also maybe in a not so good way.
32:11
So you look at how the Houston Texans office of line was in the previous era, how much
32:16
of that carried over and why it was important to move on from Lamby and then move on from
32:23
Howard because the stigma or maybe again, I call it the characteristic, but essentially
32:38
this office of line just lacked dominance.
32:45
They lacked, especially on the inside, they lacked the wheel to move a body.
32:55
And so in two seasons back to back, they move on from Lamby to they move on from Titus Howard.
33:02
Obviously money was a big reason why both players, when they get to their new team, they
33:07
get to a place where they want to get the extension for Lamby Tonson.
33:10
He got it this year after his first year with the Washington commanders.
33:15
Titus got it this year immediately when he got to the Cleveland Browns.
33:18
So money played an issue, but also, like these guys just wasn't nasty guys, they were
33:23
body moves up front.
33:26
That's just the reality of it, and I'm sure Cicero, who seen it all, didn't really want
33:31
the area of the earth to fall into that same trap of what many may feel like Titus Howard
33:38
That's how I know Howard took the leadership role this year to a place where we never saw
33:43
him before, and I thought he put in the work to be much better because he was the
33:47
most better player this year, all things aside.
33:52
But now we look at it off in some line, add it with Smith and Teller, and it ain't just
33:57
a white black thing.
33:58
I mean, those are jokes, some ways.
34:01
But you look at, like those guys, when White Teller was healthy and good, he was a complete
34:08
body mover, not shader, mover, and the hope is he's back to that.
34:15
Smith will move a body.
34:18
He will move a body off the way.
34:20
Evan Brown, with the right guys around him, I mean, especially when he's playing center,
34:26
he is a very good, well, I'll call him in the bus.
34:31
Love average decent duo room blocker, well, he will move a body with you.
34:39
The Texas won't guys that are going to move bodies, not just shade to a linebacker, keep
34:45
I had to make a play at the line, screamers on the back field.
34:47
They want somebody, they want to learn that it's tough, nasty, physical, as what they've
34:52
said, as if they've won it and haven't had it.
34:56
So for Ciserio to kind of make some things change, internally, externally, contractually
35:03
to hold on, and for the offensive line to look different in many ways, that does speak
35:12
to where he is now as a general manager, recognizing he was wrong last year, he was wrong
35:18
year prior, and also recognizing, I'm still in draft me office of love this year, but
35:24
I ain't going to be in the situation where I got a prank on the King of Green again.
35:33
So even if I do get me a young guy, I got somebody in front of him that'll be able to go now.
35:41
These are the things that you want to see from Ciserio, I've been extremely critical
35:45
up, but I can't lie, and I can't front Kudos to Ciserio, Kudos to him, man, hopefully
35:53
he's enjoying an arduous salad, I may have said that wrong, which is one of the worst
36:01
salads, by the way.
36:04
Spring salad with some beats and a couple of chopped up pieces of steak, patting himself
36:11
on the back with a brand new swear vest because the last seven days, eight days of free
36:17
agency, and they capped off with the wireteller because of the vision and not just speaking
36:23
about the vision, also working towards the vision, okay, hey, we just got to see how it
36:30
And if it doesn't, paying off to where wireteller is exactly what he was in 2025, then you
36:37
can't knock him for trying.
36:39
He didn't really try last year, well, ain't the time to sit, didn't try it this year.
