It has been a very busy offseason so far for Nick Casario.
And boy, oh boy, does he love reaching into that bargain bid when it comes to offensive linemen.
Isn't it enough? We're going to talk about it tonight on the Lockdown Text Squad Show.
Hey, listen, one thing about it, two things for sure.
You can't blame Nick Casario now.
He's trying to upgrade this offensive line without crippling the future of this franchise in terms of salary can't.
So I'll give him a lot of credit for what he's doing at this point of the offseason.
Now the draft is up next.
Yeehaw! It's time for the Texans squad.
Everything Houston Texans? Every week.
Bringing you the big hits, game changing plays, and all the actions straight from the Lone Star State.
The way only the Lockdown Podcast Network can.
Saddle up and squad up. It's the Texans squad show starting now.
Welcome to the Lockdown Text Squad Show, Mike Conner and John Hickman here with you tonight.
Stay on the way back with us on the next one.
As we're talking all things Houston Texans, of course, as we are creeping closer and closer.
We're still like a full month out from the NFL draft.
But this show will be transitioning hard into a lot of draft talk between now and that draft, of course, as we move forward.
But because, well, the free agent market is drying up out there.
There's still some guys available in the Texans.
I put together this stream for this show this morning.
So there are any more moves available for the Texans.
Well, it turns out there was a move available for the Texans tonight.
Nick Seria of Science Miles Teller, a former Cleveland Brown, a former Buffalo Bill.
I think he's the only played right guard, but we'll assume he's playing left guard, of course,
because Ed Ingram plays right guard for the Houston Texans.
But he's a three-time pro baller.
Those were years ago, a couple of second team all pros.
It's been a while since he's had those statuses put on his shelf.
But John, how do you feel about another week since we've done a show last week?
I forget the name of the guy he signed from the Cardinals as well.
Even Brown.
That's right.
How are you feeling about what Nick Seria has done overall?
Do you think that this line is any better than it was last season?
Or do you think it's more of the same? What are we thinking right now?
MC, you remember the conversations we were having at the end of the playoff season?
Yeah.
For the Texans, and I say, listen, for the Houston Texans,
they can't afford to wait on an offensive line, and from the draft.
Remember that?
They can't afford to wait on a young guy.
And I was at the time, and I still believe this, or I can't be mad.
I said, hey, listen, if I'm Nick Serio, I'm going to go get some veterans to feel those boys.
I'm getting a veteran to move on from Jake Andrews.
I'm getting a veteran to upgrade in left guard.
I'm getting a veteran at right guard.
They brought back Ed Ingram, the vet.
They brought in Evan Brown, a vet, who's had some good years in the NFL.
Why tell her along with Brandon Smith after moving on from Tyler.
Sorry.
I said Miles Teller.
I'm thinking of the actor.
I don't know why.
Not bad.
I know I just said that.
I thought about it in my head.
That's all right, man.
What is it?
Tuesday.
Tuesday evening.
Right before happy hour.
So we'll get to what we got to go.
By the way, how many one year deals?
I keep track.
Not a lot.
Because this is a two year deal.
I was a two year deal, which is I think all things considered a good contract.
But back to the point.
Like for Serio, it was obvious they can't wait.
It cannot wait.
Because in a couple of years, you're going to be looking at a C.J.
Strong contract.
We'll enter some contract.
A commodity loss of the contract.
Some of these guys aren't going to want to get extensions to get more money.
I eat Nikko Collins that they keep him around.
Yeah.
Yeah.
A C.J.
Employee.
Yeah.
Kela Bullock will be up for a deal.
Wes Jellin's peatry in that mix.
So for C.J.
Serio, he understands that Hey,
I have a two year window to get this done.
I'm going to go out swinging.
And for the Texans.
Adding the veterans that they've added,
Smith bringing in.
The Evon Brown, who I think will compete at center.
I think he was brought in and be, you know,
to push check Andrews and having center spot a little bit more firm.
or a firm this year going into, instead of last year, excuse me.
But I also, while I tell her, these are veteran guys
who have at their peak been known to move bodies out the way.
So we're looking at a room now that going into last year,
past blocking wasn't really an issue, right?
They did a good job in protecting the quarterback.
They couldn't rub block for heck.
And I'm trying to stay clean here.
But this year, I look at the Houston Texas
understanding that we want to limit turnovers.
We want to limit the amount of damage our quarterback
can do.
We're going to get to being a dominant running team.
We're going to bring in guys that have been body movers
in the NFL.
And so why tell her is a name that people I spoke with in Cleveland.
There's a hey, listen, he regressed last year.
He took a couple of steps back.
Injuries are a problem.
Age is a concern.
But for the Houston Texas and maybe they feel confident enough
that they have the pieces around him across the offensive line
that will allow for him to just be a solid piece moving forward.
Not the all pro wide teller, but just a good offensive lineman
at Loveguard, which will be better than what they had last year
all things considered.
So for for a Cacerio in the Texans, they're going out swinging, man.
They're going out swinging.
I just wonder how, now look, I'm not
trying to put down any of these.
I mean, I think if you look at the overall big picture
of putting together solid, like you mentioned,
solid veteran pros in the league that know what they're doing
at these positions that have done it for a while.
It might not be the top of their position
in terms of talent and in terms of athletes,
whatever, and you know, free agent contracts
that are getting their not big massive guys.
Like, it is what it is.
I just wonder, I do wonder how much does the offensive line
improve?
Like, you know, they didn't get CJ killed in the regular season.
We all know that was before playoffs with a different story.
Things just change.
I just wonder how much different is it going to be?
Or is it going to be so drastically better in terms
of run blocking alone that it's going
to make the running game that much better
that's going to help life?
Because I mean, let we know this is there on how they want to win.
Control the clock, be physical, run the football, throw
when they need to, don't ever do either side of the football
and let their defense win the games, right?
Yeah, no, you're spot on.
And here's another thing, you see, like,
you know, they just traded for David Montgomery.
Right?
David Montgomery came from Detroit, Detroit.
They blocked up there.
They run blocked up there.
Why ain't it so for the Houston Texans?
They got some guys in here that ain't
about no diamonds around the neck, man.
They got some guys in here now that ain't about no swag.
They got some guys in here now that ain't about no new Jordan releases, right?
They got some cowboy boot wear, overall wear, run blockers up front
that's going to move somebody.
So I think for the Houston Texans, their main focus was
how can we get better at run blocking, right?
You look at the last game, the Texans play.
Jake Andrews getting knocked back in the backfield.
The offensive line all together, you're seeing guys
getting blew back at the line of scrimmage at the start of the snap.
You see eight rushing yards on 12 carries in the first half.
We can say this uncharacteristic of the Houston Texans,
but the fact of the matter is they ran the ball for 3.9 yards last year.
But carry, they understand that an effective running game,
which is what they've lacked consistently,
even with Joe Nixon, the Russian success rate was in great.
An effective running game for the Houston Texans looks like Moore's point score.
That's the fact last year when they rush for over 100 yards,
it scored more points.
When they don't, they're looking at dog fights and they're looking at losses.
And that everything was summed up perfectly.
Or in many ways, depending on how you look at it in a worse way,
I guess, in the name of the Patriots.
So you trade for David Montgomery and you attempt.
Not saying you were paying out just like Detroit,
but Casario is attempting to place an offensive line
that is similar to what David Montgomery has had in Detroit.
They believe he's a special player.
They upgraded his contract, by the way.
He believes he's a special player that can handle the workload.
The last season of his year in Detroit didn't have over 200 touches.
So you're looking at it, running back there.
Although 30 is creeping up,
the wear and tear isn't there necessarily.
They're going to run their ball and they want to play action.
And they want to get to the red zone.
When they get to the red zone,
they don't want to rush to ball for point nine yards inside the team.
They don't want to be one point nine yards inside the team.
They want to be a team that teams understand.
When they get down there, they can win on three phases.
Running the ball, passing the ball,
and obviously, can't be fabric.
There's a special kick on the inside in the red zone area.
So the Texans like that.
They like two of those three last year.
This is their attempt of being better this year.
Yeah, and I do wonder as well,
when you think about it, is this all an attempt?
Like, because I don't want to put,
I think it's the wrong way that I'm trying to put it is like,
is that they're trying to mass CJ's deficiencies.
It's not, I guess it's not the way that it's just more about
having the balance force to make him a better quarterback, right?
Hey, that last time we saw him play ball,
what did we see him see?
Like we mentioned, like a,
listen, he didn't, he didn't have a run game, right?
And, and Stroud even mentioned,
he said something in that post game press conference
or ex interviews, I can't remember which one,
that he was adjusting to not having to be Superman.
Well, buddy, the Texans are attempting to take that off
your load, right?
But the last time we saw him play ball,
seven turnovers and two games in the playoff game.
So it ain't, it's not unfair to say that the Texans
are attempting to mass his deficiencies.
And it's also, I think it's fair to add to that point,
you let me know how you feel.
They're, they're, they're masking his deficiencies,
but they're also trying to make things easy on the quarterback.
And the things that hadn't necessarily been easier,
for Stroud, the last maybe 26 games of his career,
all things considered.
So it's a combination of both,
but it's definitely a high, high issue,
turn of problems, right?
Yeah, I mean, look, at the end of the day,
they can do all this and it's hard for me to sit here
and give a really big comment on what I think
the offensive line is going to look like.
I'm not an offensive line expert.
I'm not going to pretend to be an offensive line expert.
I like to read people that, that, you know,
study these things.
I know some people that do this, you know,
for, for living and whatnot and you talk to people and,
you know, I, from everything I gather,
they're not going to be a horrible offensive line.
Well, they'd be the best offensive line, probably not.
But is that good enough?
I think at the end of the day is that, you know,
we can talk about all these things.
And if it is an improvement of the offensive line this year
and the right hand position is improved,
still will come down to number seven.
Let's go come down to seven.
The success in this league, well, 9.5 times out of 10s
are going to come down to the quarterback.
And I'm not even saying that they will be like,
I can't say this is a, a, a,
a white teller is a move similar to a couple of years ago
when Chicago, no, no last off season
when Chicago, 34, Joe, doing, for their rookie quarterback.
I think we're doing years in this career,
going into last year and where teller is now
two totally different primes.
One that's made me still in his prime,
the other one is on the backside of that prime.
But I do think whether it works or not,
can we at least say Cicero is attempting to write the wrongs?
Because here's the thing.
2022, right?
He rose with King of Green, that didn't work out.
2023, he rose with juice and J. Pat juices out of here.
That didn't work out.
J. Pat is still a dead piece on his roster,
whom I would expect to be kept around due to his ability
to just, you know, play a couple of spots
and also his time in the league with the Houston Texans.
But traditionally, area of the earth,
he was the first offensive line been drafted by Nick Cicero
that shows any promise.
And for Cicero, we all agreed.
He had to replace at least two offensive line spots,
turned out to be three because they moved
off from title's hour.
It wouldn't have been smart to go all rookies.
It wouldn't have been smart to go two out of three
that needed to be feel rookies.
So I appreciate the attempt of getting veterans
that have been successful in the league.
Unlike last year, when he went out to Lincoln-Thomason
at Ingram, Ken Robertson, Ed Pandoff
for the Texans camp, then he was traded.
Lincoln-Thomason was always a joke to me.
In terms of signing him, not him as a personal player,
but he just wasn't good.
City so guy snaps last year.
J. Paterson got snapped.
Do you score other guy snaps?
Like the amount of guys that got snapped last year
and left guard and sent him in some cases,
what was their background?
What was their resume?
It didn't happen.
Why, I tell the hazard background in resume.
Brady Smith has a background in resume.
And you can make the case that Evan Brown,
who's been a part of some very good Russian teams,
he has played a good role in Arizona being a good Russian team.
I'm a good team, but a good Russian team
ordained back to some of his days before Arizona.
He's attempting to write the wrongs
without putting the weight of the world
on a young offensive lineman.
And I think at the very least, I'm okay with that.
I'm okay with them re-envisioning the line.
Let's just hope that it plays out to where we're talking
about it at the end of the season,
being happy with the result from it.
There's more depth that think you're thinking right there
when it comes to what they have at this moment.
We'll see what else is out there.
Is there another move that is out there waiting for them
to be made before freeing?
You see, it's not going to end anytime soon,
before the draft gets here in the month of April.
We'll talk about it here on the Lockdown Texas Squad Show next.
Before we get there to that, will they add anything else?

Jimmy Johns franchise or SPV LLC.
So what is next for the Houston Texans?
Will there be anything else?
That is the question now ahead of the NFL draft.
I'm Michael Connor.
That's John Hickman.
Thank you for joining us on a lockdown Texans pot
or squad show.
John hopes the lockdown Texans daily podcast.
You can of course catch that every day.
And you can of course get it for free
wherever you get your podcast.
Go and search for locked on Texans.
And it is right there available for you.
He's going to have a lot.
So man, of course, I went to the combine.
He's about to get into his draft season with that show.
I'll be listening to it.
And we'll be talking about it here on the squad show as well.
Before they get to that free agency,
I think the last time we did a show, John,
we talked about guys that were out there
that we would maybe like to see.
Do you think, first of all, before we even get to names,
do you think there's any other semi or significant free agency
signing with the Texans between now and the draft?
I don't know.
I'm waiting to see what the salary cap numbers look like
after today's signing of White Teller.
And do we have a confirmation?
So when I go to the spot rack, Texans
free agent tracker for this off season,
it has White Teller down and signing a $2,000,000,000 deal.
I think I did see, he's only going to count against the cap 8,000.
What's again, I mean, you're going to talk about giving
Ciserio Kudos.
They're moving things, man.
I mean, he's getting it done.
He's been extremely, a $2,000,000, $16,000,000 deal.
Worked up to $23,000,000.
So that is a per year.
Apparently, White Teller had a projected market value
of about 10 years and get some under that number.
So again, like we look at the attempt at Nick Ciserio is having
right now at our redoing this offensive line,
but the numbers for these contracts,
I think have been extremely impressive.
So I do want to give him Kudos there.
But don't know what the updated cap will look like as of right now.
I think it was about a little over 20 million before the White Teller
move.
So now we're looking at just a little bit over 10 for use.
And they may stay patential post draft, right?
Where you may see some guys that they were expecting to maybe
be in the area where they were drafting,
get taken off the board.
So maybe they pivot to another position or player,
but they still want to feel that need.
And so maybe there's a player out there in free agency that's
still available.
David Ninjoku is still a player that's available.
Not necessarily too shocking, but in some ways it is.
And also for the Houston Texas, they
could be setting themselves up forward.
Train camp cuts.
And so from now until, or let's just
say the regular season, I see Houston staying busy.
But from now until the draft, the only move I could see MC
happening is a vet while receiver.
That's where I can feel the void of Christian curd,
Braxton burials, and also Justin Watson, what you got?
Where you as I get we're in a world that we're fishing for clicks,
the headlines for the 49ers signing Christian curve
question that what are we doing?
I saw one that's like, wait a minute, there were
49ers, 49ers signed a 5,000 yard productive YNFL veteran
wide receiver.
What are we doing?
Guy, this guy was all I milk carton all last year.
Kirk had headlines?
Yeah, I'll tell you, you just pull up.
Just to talk about any website that's running these things.
I'm just like, are you see some of the Twitter reactions?
They're like, oh, they got a really, I got
I think, I don't know what you said,
Doug guy account, like he had an absurd twist.
I blocked that dude in these music.
That's good on you.
I didn't want to see that much online.
Shout out to the guys in the chat right now.
Ken Siddiqui.
Hey, man, I was the first cat I hear them saying,
listen, if you could hit it all, it all still isn't free agency.
I trade up for Ken Siddiqui.
He may be available at 28, depending on how things pan out.
I actually did a mock draft, and I
did this a little bit for some clicks, not quite a lot.
Look at you, it's all going to look nice.
I traded the 28 pick and the 39 pick of this year's draft
to the Rams, the 13 pick, the draft from a Kyle Limit.
But I'm just a guy, and it's going
to bring us back to the point I made,
but I'm just a guy that, when I look at the Texans,
while I receive a room, it's not
like they're not some impressive guys.
Like Nico is Nico.
I think we believe that Jane Higgins
can take a step this year, especially
if the offense operates with more functionality
on all three phases.
We can see him just have more targets
going into another year, being in this offense.
But I've been on record saying that I think it's unfair
to put the weight on the world on Thinkdale,
who's returning after missing the year.
And I also have said that, hey, I don't think
that Journal of North showed us enough last year
for a Houston to not invest in there
while I receive a room for a final year.
I believe Kyle Limit is the best
while a receiver in this year's draft class.
I believe he's a player that the Houston Texas
could absolutely use.
But I can say there was a little bit of clickbait in there
to trading up to the 13 pick.
But overall, if there is a move that I
would like for Houston to make,
it would be investing in there while I receive a room,
whether that be through the draft,
but as we talk about free agency,
that may be the only thing left
or maybe a cornerback out there that's available.
But I think where Houston is right now,
I don't see, do you feel like that there
in the side of place going into the draft
where eight or nine picks this year,
do you feel like free agency can kind of be what it is?
Yeah, I think, you know, when I'm thinking about it,
I don't think that there's any position
that's like screams that you right now,
there's a glaring massive hole
that absolutely has to be filled.
That part is done now.
Would you still prefer some upgrades in some spots?
Sure, like you just said a minute ago,
we talked about it being the last show,
bringing up some names, whatever.
I still look at this team and I go,
if you could just add one of these, you know,
and I'm sure they're probably going to draft them,
but if you added one of these veteran wide receivers
that's still available, I wouldn't be mad at it.
And we've talked about the names that are out there
where their digs is available.
He both same meal is available.
Ron Jennings is the guy we've talked about as well.
There's also, I got the list here.
I don't know if he's playing this year or not,
but Tyree Kills out there, he'll probably wait a while.
Curtis.
So it's only on that area in three months.
Okay.
Yeah, that's all I'm going to ask later with the,
you know, there's this whole arms race in the AFC.
It's just, it's absolutely, it's nutty
what these teams are out there doing.
But I mean, I'll give it like a Keenan Allen
who, you know, wasn't,
I don't think he was great last year.
I think he still think he called up
a bunch of balls for the Chargers last year.
Like, so there's still some names out there
that I look at and I'm like, I don't think it would hurt
at all to take a look at one of these guys
to make sure that you just have it, you know,
solidified a little, but you know, kind of be the,
now just any of those, do any of those guys
are they at their point of their career?
We're like, yeah, I think like when Robert Woods
was here for those couple of years,
like he was that breaking case of emergency
and he would make solid catches in game
for the needed him to do stuff.
But it was like, you know, he's still only catch like
two or something yards where the past is during the season.
Like is there that kind of guy still out there
for the season?
I don't think they're bringing anybody
it's trying to jump over what they have at this point.
Right.
Oh, I mean, but like even in that situation
when the Texans had to break the glass for Robert Woods,
I think we may have saw it a little bit last year
when maybe they needed more from Xavier Hutchison.
Like Robert Woods at that stage in his career
where Xavier Hutchison is right now,
things considered and maybe Hutch will be, you know,
better for another team out there with more opportunities.
But those guys are just not raising the floor
as glass breakers.
And so for the quarterback here, right?
Let's take a look at the quarterback.
I think CJ Stroud would, as much as we know,
he benefit from a river in game
because it allowed for the Texas to play action.
And we know that Stroud still wants to take those deep shots
down the field, right?
Play action will help with that.
For CJ Stroud, it would be in Houston's best interest
to just raise the talent level in their skill room
all together.
So they did it with the quarterback room.
You know, you trade for Montgomery.
They did it with the tight end room in a way.
Foster Moreau, I think he was a needle mover
because the other two options along with Harrison Bryant
were just not good.
But a wide receiver, they still could use some additional help.
I'm not sold on anybody past Chaden Higgins.
And I think Luda Tengdale simply because he's missed
so much time.
I know he's at Uber Town at the player
and if he's helped, he could be special for the Texas.
But he didn't get a chance to play in this offense last year.
His office is different compared to the office.
He played it on the bottom floor.
So is there going to be a learning curve
and if there's a learning curve,
well, that learning curve looked like what he did
for Jayden Noel.
It's not going to look like that because at the very least,
Teng has some chemistry with his quarterback.
So that's going to get him on the field.
But we could look at just, it could take him time
to get back to a place where he's Tengdale.
That's what I'm getting there.
And the wide receiver room, because of that,
the wide receiver room could use a facelift.
I keep thinking about, too, you bring that up.
You bring up the guys that they do have here
and that could factor into this or that or the other.
And we always talk about Higgins.
And we expect Higgins to be that guy that takes that next step
forward, which I completely, I know that you and I are both
on that same page like we think, you know,
obviously you had a lot of arguments about him.
Yeah, I think it's going to be a good year for him in year two.
I really do.
But like, should we be expecting more out of Jayden Noel?
Like, does he need to be the 600 yard receiver
on this football team next year?
You know, the guy underneath in the slot, whatever it is?
Yeah, yeah, we should.
I mean, that's a lack of a lot.
I just think the question is, will we?
Will we?
And I mean, in your PMC, like,
Don Shoes balled out, Nico balled out.
You know, Nico was a 1000 year old receiver.
Don Shoes 800 years of close to it.
After Shoes, I think the rest of the tiny unit combined
from like one 15 yards, maybe a TD on a year
to rest in the wire receiver unit outside of Nico Collins
combined for not a lot.
Yeah, not a lot.
Maybe under 1100 yards.
And so as he used to Texas looked to upgrade the offensive line,
which was a problem and it was necessary.
We can't overlook the other glaring needs.
And that is the lack of playmakers,
the lack of consistent playmakers.
We're tightquant.
Underwood being added to this coaching staff,
I think that blows well for the young guys
because he was a young guy that was playing
in a similar system in New England.
And also, he can help from a coaching perspective.
So I think twofold, that's a bonus for these young guys
coming in for the use of Texans.
However, you ask about Jell-E-Nor,
he was one of those guys last year
that couldn't get on the field.
We did get on the field.
He made some plays in spurs, but throughout 17 games,
he finished a year, I think, right under 300 yards.
That's not enough.
No, he was too 92.
Not enough.
And so the Texas could absolutely look at that
and say, well, we still got a weapon in him,
but we're losing Christian Kirk.
We're losing Braxton Barrios.
Justin Washington didn't give Houston anything last year.
So they essentially have to make up at least two spots.
And who should say that Jell-E-Nor can't be
in that role of the bottom four receivers?
If the Texas investment receiver again,
in the draft, or whatever, or our receiver,
in Noel and Tankdale just kind of completes that roster,
completes that room.
Now you're looking at a very dangerous room,
if they go that way, but I just,
I look at the skill positions for Houston Texas
and tight end included, run it back included.
I think they need a little bit more, right,
especially because I think overall,
your quarterback will benefit for more, like Tom Brady
could play well at Chris Hogan
and make him look like an hour of receiver, right?
That ain't, that ain't, that ain't,
see they strut in year four.
That's just the track.
23.8 points per game last year for this team,
which was 13th out of the 32 teams in the late.
So that's a crazy fair, man.
Over or under that in 2026,
based off what we have right now,
have seen on this roster, the way it's constructed.
What was it again, 23?
23.8, 13th out of the 32 teams in the league.
And that gets, of course, you know,
that's just an average, they had a couple of games
that were high that, you know, pushed that up there.
I'll go with over, I'll go with over.
And I think everybody will have an understanding,
a better understanding of what the ask is of the office.
And Cicero has done his job in upgrading
an area that absolutely needed.
So I'll go over, I'll go with 24,
way too early by the way.
So this unfairly, which means that prediction,
when we get to try to camp, I'm sure, but I'll go over.
Yeah, when you come back to me and during,
when we're doing our post training camp practice shows
and you tell me the same thing,
you've been telling me now for two years or whatever
that hey, the office got their back sides kicked again today,
I'm going to be like,
hi, this is, see, that's, you know what?
I know we got to go to break.
Can we just talk about that a little bit more
before we move into our next conversation?
Yeah, we absolutely can.
We'll do that here in just a second.
I'm a lockdown tech to watch you.

Not to brag or anything,
but our beast new 799 meet in three boxes kind of a big deal.
The other guys give you just one side.
We give you three sides, not to brag.
You get a meaty sandwich, curly fries,
mutt sticks, a sweet treat and a drink all for just 799.
It's more meal for your money.
More meal for your money.
More meal for your money.
Where'd that come from?
Arby's we have the meat.
I'm participating Arby's for a limited time.
So what is training camp going to look like for the Texans?
We were talking about it there at the end
is how this team takes a step for whatever.
And the thing that we've had the last couple of years
has been that the Texans go to camp
and you guys come back and tell me,
hey, this side of the ball kick the other side of the ball.
What did you have on that there?
You wanted to discuss.
Two seasons ago before he left,
my co-host and dear friend Cody Davis
was out here training camp.
And I don't have the luxury of being out there every day, right?
I'm working down to five.
Well, I can be out there, I'm out there.
Any kicks off the week, man, I don't know, man,
this defense is having a great start and practice this week.
So I turned the camp.
He said, maybe it's just the early days,
but I'd get out there Friday.
So you get out there Friday.
You'll see what I'm talking about.
So we'll do a show on Monday.
We'll do a show on Tuesday.
And Wednesday and Thursday and I can out there Friday.
Leading up to the Friday appearance
of me being out there at training camp,
every day was the Texas defense was whoopin' the Texas offense.
And I continue for about two and a half, three weeks.
Let me go on to the 2024 season.
Following year, his pass-off season.
Same thing.
That said, the reason why the Texans defense was just kind of...
Stop it.
Well, you're listening.
John is smacking him like he's smacking a five-year-old
that's in trouble.
Stop it.
The reason for that was it wasn't...
Up, you hit the mute.
Damn, he was on the roll.
It wasn't because the means were just...
It's out.
And in some case, they were.
It was because they didn't have an answer for the Neil Will
and whoever was on the inside.
So if we get...
Let's...
We don't bring this conversation back because
when we get to a point in training camp,
where if I come on the show and say,
Hey, listen, MC, stand, listen, viewers,
Y'all is one today.
I think the deciding factor for that will be because
the addition of Bradence Smith,
the addition of Wyatt Teller,
the addition of Evan Brown,
and the addition of, at least at this point,
Foster Moreau.
They got some guys at the Titan Spot and on an offensive line
that in many ways are just...
You're not gonna punk them, right?
And I'm not saying that was the case.
I'm not calling those guys punks.
It's not what I'm doing.
But the Texas offensive line in many ways last year,
got punk, got owned, right?
And they also were dealing with a rookie left tackle last year.
And so you look at the addition of a Wyatt Teller
and the Bradence Smith on the opposite side,
two guys that were pros, pro players,
what would they give him in this game?
I would not be shocked if we come on this show
and I'm doing my everyday show.
I'm sending myself, I'm telling you guys,
it looked a lot different from 24 and 25
because the offensive line is much tougher bunch.
That is what I'm looking forward to.
And that's the case.
I do think we're in there.
We're gonna be in for a very fun season
if they control wheel and the kneel
and whoever's on the inside.
I, you know, that will actually give me hope.
If you do come back here to this show,
after going out there to camp and tell me that,
hey, they often actually look...
You might have been from when you hit something.
Can you hear me at all?
You're muted now.
I don't know if you can hear me.
Maybe you hit a hit a button or something
and check your settings on the audio there.
But if you do, I'll just keep talking here for a second.
If you do come back from a training camp
and look at me and go, hey, Mike, you know,
this actually looked like a competent offensive line here.
Yeah, this looked like an offensive line that actually pushed
a defense around a little bit today.
They didn't just get pumped the whole time.
Then I'm gonna feel pretty darn good about it.
The other part of it, you know,
training camp wise that you mentioned before is, you know,
I'm gonna wanna hear out of your mouth too, John,
is that the quarterback was out there commanded
and the huddle was commanded and everything else
because this, again, it always goes back to number seven.
But if you could tell me all those other things
and CJ was commanding things more than
we've ever heard it before, then, you know what?
Then I'll feel really good.
Yeah, I definitely wanna see that from stride.
And I think, I mean, like in many ways,
doesn't these moves car for it?
Like for Cicero, I'm doing everything I can
to make you look good, brother.
I'm upgrading the offensive line.
I'm getting you some help in the tiny room.
I just traded for another vet,
but a very good running back in David Montgomery.
I'm giving you everything that you need
to be a successful quarterback,
but I need for you to change.
I need for you to do more.
I need for you to step up to the occasion.
And if you're absolutely right, leadership
and how he leaves is gonna be on everybody's eye.
Everybody's running off.
Because 25, there was not any
at least some moments of my four eyes,
didn't see a lot of moments of we messed up,
we screwed up, let's do it again.
It was on to the next play.
It was on to the next team rep.
So if stride was first team, it was on to the second team,
getting their reps.
This year, what the addicts pressure that he's under, right?
Because if he has another 25 year,
or 24 year, in 26,
what does his money look like in 27?
So I think from a fundamental standpoint,
from a mechanical standpoint,
but from a middle standpoint,
stride has to change and elevate his game
in all three of those physical as well,
and all four of those levels of his game.
And being a more vocal outspoken leader,
not necessarily having to curse a lot,
or because I don't believe stride is a curse.
Exactly.
He's not going to curse.
He's not going to dog anybody out in front of people.
But no, we messed up.
Let's just do it again.
That is what I would want to see from stride this year
with the new bodies around them.
Yeah, I'm right there with you.
He will have new bodies around him
before we get out to our next time out here.
Then we get into our final segment of the show.
We'll get deeper into the draft.
I'm going to assume we'll probably start doing a little bit of a draft talk here
in the next show later this week,
because it is that time to start getting into these things.
But just from the overall viewpoint here,
do you think the draft strategy has changed at all,
based off of what they go for free agency now,
because they're light in the first round.
Yeah, I like this conversation.
You know, we've all assumed offensive line
as an early play.
Do you think that's changed?
I think it has changed.
OK.
Houston is at 28, 39, 58.
It was at 38, 59, and that's something like that.
But we know that between that first and third pick,
they're picking 30 picks from each other.
That's a great position to be in.
And for Houston, you can definitely still
get a very good offensive line.
And who can sit behind the line that you just put together
without having a King of Green such a right way.
You can sit there working year and be the upside
for the following year.
Things don't happen.
I wouldn't wire a teller or, you know,
you have Evan Brown on the one year deal.
Also, we look at Andrews has one more year left
on his deal.
So if those guys don't panic,
you have that offensive line waiting to go
the following year for Houston.
I mean, this just puts him in a position
to be aggressive.
If there's an office of talent that they believe
would be ready, they won.
They can kind of take them just over the top.
And for me, realistically,
it's always been King and Cedeek and tied him.
But you go out and do it.
I think this allows for Houston to be extremely aggressive
in this year's draft.
I don't want to see them draft a tackle with the first pick.
They got four tackles on his roster.
They got Blake Fisher.
They got Brady Smith on a two-year deal.
Blake Fisher has two more years left.
Ariana T. Hershey is going to his sophomore year.
Trent Brown is on the one year deal.
If you want to tackle this year,
you take him late, but the Texans got their tackle deck
solidified.
They could be extremely aggressive
in getting the playmaking on this roster on an offense.
And, or they could just go best player available.
It may be a defensive player that may rub people
the wrong way because it feels like it's always the defense
that's getting the best players available.
But, at the very least,
like Houston bringing in Brady Smith,
Evan Brown, Wattella,
Resonant, Ingram,
Get it, Trent Brown back into the fold.
Or that does take the pressure on them having to hit
on an offensive line early.
And because of how they won about this free-aid
period, hey, I'm all there for being aggressive
to go get that one gym that they believe
can really be beneficial to CJ Brown.
What scares me,
and I think it really scares me,
is that I think that this just throws them
even more likely into the trade down
out of the first round,
and trading up into the first round.
That's just me.
I think in Nick Casario and Value and all those things,
and trade back out,
see what you could do.
You don't have to have somebody that wants something
to trade back out to get what you need in return.
You mentioned,
I just a couple of the mock drafts,
the people that are probably the most paid attention to
when it comes out there for those guys.
Mill Kiper's latest is out.
It hasn't go in defense.
Christian Miller,
the defensive tackle out of Georgia at 28.
And then I saw Daniel Jeremiah's earlier today.
He has them going into your offensive line.
I think it's probably before they signed
an interior offensive line in a day.
But who knows?
Chase Bestonis,
the guard from Texas A&M.
It was his pick there.
So I'm guessing that of those two picks,
people that, you know,
people who go check out in terms of mock drafts,
you probably would like,
Daniel Jeremiah is a little bit less than Mill Kiper.
Jeremiah won't be a wood pick again.
What bestonis, the guard from A&M?
Yeah, if I'm going to take this,
I'm saying away from A&M guards.
Saying,
that first thing I thought too,
I'm like, come on, man.
I'm saying away from that, man.
That's bad.
I haven't done my deep dive on him.
I've done a deep dive on Emanuel pregnant.
I think that his background being a USC before Oregon.
I liked that a lot over a lot of these other guys.
And in this year's draft,
two offensive systems,
two offensive styles,
a calls for in many ways,
a different approach from your guards.
And so I liked that he was able to kind of execute it
and play fairly well at a high level at both universities.
I like him a lot for Houston.
And here's the thing,
he would be probably a perfect pick.
Maybe with that first second round pick,
that Houston Lee has a high upside,
but he can let them stay a little sit.
I'm going to say he has something there.
They want to stay in 28.
They don't want to be aggressive, right?
And they don't want to move up.
They can't see Deacon's gone.
Here's two names.
Number one, Omar Cooper,
Casey Concepcion,
out of A&M.
Cooper's out in the end.
Those are two receivers right there
that I feel like it have some value on this roster.
And the Texans wouldn't have to kind of put themselves out there
and lose picks on the back half of this year's draft.
Right?
They can stay where they are,
and get some guys that extremely solid pieces
and could add to what.
Omar Cooper,
we look at the option routes that loose offense,
Nick Kelly is running,
the traditional Patriot offense,
the option routes from the slot.
Very important.
And we know that think that it's coming back,
he's probably one of the better option route receivers
in the league when he's healthy,
but Omar Cooper would just add to that.
What he does from 11 yards and under,
I think would be extremely beneficial
for the Houston Texas offense.
And again, the Houston Texas wouldn't,
like they wouldn't sell themselves out
to move up to a game.
None of these guys,
he'd be available at 28,
or Casey Concepcion.
There was some drops,
but I also dealt with inconsistent quarterback play.
That'll be a great for him at the next level going
from Reed to CJ Strout.
But those are two names that I'll keep in play,
and maybe they can look at Emmanuel Pregnant
with the first second round pick.
I think that'll be a good way to kick it off,
with Grayson Houghton,
or Lee Hunter,
with that third,
that's the second second round pick,
Houston Texas,
third pick,
and this year's draft.
So that'll be receiver,
offensive lineman detackle.
I think that'll be a good way to go.
It's going to be interesting.
I really, really think it's going to be interesting.
I think best,
I think for the first time ever,
I'm looking at it and going,
if you just don't go best player available
when you're picking,
I think you're crazy at this point.
I don't care.
I almost don't care what position it is.
We'll see.
Again,
I think, if I'm putting my money on it right now,
what a month out, basically from the draft,
I've been necessariatries out of the first round.
We will see.
Put a shot.
I might only want to take a shot for this show, man.
What's the, what's the world?
Let me do this number up right now.
It's two, two.
Two one year deals.
Yeah.
You, we said only players
that were from other teams, correct?
That was our rule here.
As far as tomorrow,
and Evan Brown.
Yep.
That's it.
That's it.
That's it.
That's it.
That's it.
Yeah.
That's it.
The other one.
Everything else is a two-year deal.
And then there was what the, I think,
a one-three-year deal for Blank and Chip.
Yes.
Nick was.
Nick was in a giving mood this, this off season.
He felt more giving when it came to years on contracts than ever.
He's not Nick Scrucereo.
He's not.
I, you know what, what I want to be surprised.
You remember last year when the Texas sign, Nick Neeman?
Yeah.
And he was gone before the remiss season.
The Jake Hummel guy.
Yeah.
You got him.
We got him a little bad for the Texas.
I mean, it just screams Nick Neeman 2.0.
I don't want to bring it up.
I'm waiting to see what his role could be for Houston, if any.
Shout out to Christian Harris, who is in Atlanta now.
Has such a host from, I know we talked about last week,
but as I look at the Jake Hummel guy,
he's a linebacker.
Christian Harris, man.
I just felt like he was going to be one of them guys.
And he was not.
He was not.
We'll see if he revitalizes his career over there or not.
Final segment coming up.
Let's talk a little bit about that arms race, NAFC.
And I can't get out of here without getting John's thoughts,
because we are lifelong Houstonians.
On a team in the division with some new uniforms.
That's next year on the locked on Texas Squad Show.

Liberty.
Right back to it on the Squad Show.
Final segment, Michael Connor and John Hickman here with you tonight.
Thank you for joining us.
We will be back.
I'll be back later this week as well for another show.
We're talking all things Houston, Texas and the off season that is here.
You mentioned it earlier.
Jalen Waddle gets traded today.
How you feeling about the AFC picture right now?
Because it is a clear arms race like ever.
That's the other factor of this.
thing was just so perfectly right in place for the Texans to go to places they have never
been before with the chiefs out of it with the Baltimore Ravens out of it with the, you
know, young new patriots in there with the Denver Broncos where they back up quarterback
is staring in front of you in the AFC championship game and they couldn't, there's no guarantee
that happens next year.
Next year we'll be sitting here talking about you got to go through Patrick Mahomes and
Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen and you're talking about a whole different general while
we we can't kind of like the Denver Broncos yeah they find a way to be competitive in
wind games they want a ton on one score games last season similar to the Kansas City
Chiefs of the previous year KC just traded for somebody didn't they ask from cornerbacks
yeah they it's somebody I can't remember who they've been moving around though they pick
up Guinness Walker of course yeah and they also got lost the Walker they lost Hollywood
Brown to the chiefs today oh they got Justin Fields to back up Patrick Mahomes who
will be out for some time to kick off the year due to that injury yeah yeah that's a that's
a part of and I'm going to talk about this on the show man like you got to give Kacer
I know we're not the two biggest Kacerio guys right yeah I'm a bigger guy but MC is a
smaller of us but in terms of like Kacerio fans we're not too like big Kacerio fans but we do
we do recognize one a good job he's not my least favorite Houston GM I can tell you that right
now I walk oh I can oh oh I can tell you I can tell you who is my least favorite Houston oh I
know who yours is and yours you're mine and yours is not the same you don't like refills you
don't like refill stone and I can't stay in Dana Brown so there's that we're here for the
Texas that's not let's not yeah we're here for the Texas so Nick is just Nick's right there in
the middle right now with us Nick is in the middle man actually I was saying he's if I saw
Rafael Stone and Nick Cacerio out I would buy Nick Cacerio dinner man you really don't like
refills stone in front of stone yeah I would do that but Nick is staying competitive with these moves
right like he's not staying pat he's not just giving us the same on you know we're going to be
better better coaching we get we get some guys and he's not giving us that and because of that
that could continue to keep the Texas in the mix right we're looking what she's doing we're
looking with the Baltimore Ravens doing or what they're not doing because they they train for
crimes we then they move off from crimes we then they get trained Hendrix in but they lose I see
a likely so they and they lose Charlie Kohler and stuck with the older Mark Andrews I don't know
what the Ravens are right now but you look at Denver and what they what they've been doing the
Patriots the Broncos I'm not the Broncos Buffalo who traded for they just got them themselves
they got a DJ Moore DJ Moore so like that's their competitive Texas is staying competitive they
are staying competitive and and what these moves that does allow for the Texas to be at least on
paper on paper better than they were this year compared to last year around his time bail because
you never know I mean this that we were we can never talk about it that would be you're going to lose
somebody during the Texas were incredibly lucky overall last year with injury the odds of them
being that lucky with injury again this year probably aren't as great so at some point you're
probably going to lose somebody of significance to this football team during the season as well before
get out of here what do you think about the Tennessee Titans new uniforms
is there any franchise that has the city of Houston more in their head right now I mean
it was the Yankees for a long time but right now than the Tennessee Titans with the city of
Houston they are just they cannot stop thinking about Houston not a kid and this it is kind of like
hey bro it ain't like the Texas see y'all in the playoffs y'all ain't getting it yeah I don't
ain't got that you never make it so they made it they didn't make it through the national championship
game of rapal but I mean that was you know I was again one of those lucky things I think Texans fans
and fans that were around for the orders I've said this for like the last three seasons because it
feels like every offseason we're talking about this let it go let it go and and if you need some
help letting it go just listen to Teddy Pintergrass tonight when you when you're when you put the
kids down and you got some time to yourself and just listen to love TKO just let them sing to you let
it go this franchise is in a much better position as a franchise that has one 10 games in the last three
seasons that has that head coach all things considered has that quarterback compared to they've had
that quarterback we've seen will levels we've seen cam ward now right you know what people look at
when when they look at the Tennessee Titans you know what they call the Titans the place where
receivers go to die mm-hmm so here's my PS say Texas fans and this is coming from an outsider
as a fandom I'm an outsider but I'm also a history the Tennessee Titans were sold in 1996
not I think 97 was there was their first year in time in Tennessee when they moved
almost 20 years ago yeah no I mean we were we were both oh over 20 years almost 30 years ago 30 years ago
it was 19 1997 was their first year in Tennessee they've been to the playoffs 10 times since they moved
