That Football Show 9/11: Heavy Super Bowl Favorite Collapses as Chiefs Await Their Week 1 Matchup

About this episode

Matt Verderame and Tucker Franklin react to the chaos of the NFL season’s opening slate of games and explore what the initial results mean for the rest of the league. Matt and Tucker kick things off by breaking down Seattle's dominant defensive performance against New England, debating whether Drew Lock and the Seahawks' defense are legit or if Drake Maye and the Patriots are simply in for a long year. They also dive into the Rams getting blown out by the 49ers in Australia, highlighting how Kyle Shanahan’s offense neutralized the pass rush and why Andy Reid should take notes on using screen games to protect the offensive line.

Shifting over to Kansas City, the conversation turns to Andy Reid’s cryptic podium answers regarding the Chiefs' offensive line. They react to the latest quotes from press conferences, analyze how the Chiefs' offense looks heading into their matchup, and ponder a few random tangents along the way—from Tua Tagovailoa's bizarre pre-game injury to an existential debate on when time was actually invented. Finally, they preview the upcoming slate of games, debate worst-case TV broadcast maps, and share their ultimate takeaways for Chiefs Kingdom.

This kind of goes back to the Josh Mistang a little bit. The lack of communication, I think, makes things so much worse for them. If they were just communicate rationale and communicate what's going on, I think that they're doing it to protect their players and I think they have the best intentions behind it. But it almost delutes things so much more than it really means to. And I almost think it makes things worse. The lack of rationale here, I think, is making the things so much worse as well. Coming up, the latest episode of Back Football Show, here on KC Sports Network. It's that football show here on KC Sports Network, talking to Frank LePain, I was a Matt Vertoram for your Friday edition, which would typically be your game preview edition, but it is not. We're going to be talking about football. Football is back. We are back.

And we are back, thanks to our friends at Ben Halle, Baldwin, Baldwin, Baldwin, Baldwin, Bond, and Bond, Bourbon, and Holiday Distillery. Goodness, Matt, it sounds like I've already been drinking a lot of it. How are you doing? I'm doing better than everybody in the New England area. I dropped my daughter off at school on Thursday morning. It was like morning. I just just thought- I forgot you were out there. I was out there, it was in the streets. A lot of very long faces dropping people off at school today. As we record here on Thursday night, the Niners are finishing up beating the piss out of the Rand from Australia. Just like we all thought, right? Yeah. A lot of ex-chef's making an appearance in that game. Some good, some not so good. We'll talk about it. But yeah, doing better than that, the general greater New England area. I know that there's a lot of people watching us who are true lock fans because of Mizzou

and all that. There you are. Of course. He is not good. No. He is not good. He had to come in after five offensive plays. And Seattle clearly was like true listen. We're going to throw the ball about three feet in the tempt here. And we're going to run the ball. And we're just going to hope that New England throws this thing away. And the low and behold, the fourth quarter, Trig Bans, like- Got it work? Watch me doing. Yeah. As you just- I mean, it was like, Oprah giving away cars, right? It was unbelievable. It was crazy. There's games you lose and you walk away from it and you go, all right, fine. There are other games you lose and maybe you're annoyed by it, but you still say, okay, you know what? We'll be good. I'm not saying that the patch won't be good. Sure. I am willing to say, however, that that was an alarming performance beyond just, oh, they lost.

Like, that'd be a hell of a long plane ride home. Right. You've lost a drill lock in that game because you threw three picks on a quarter. Woof. So yeah, don't bury not everybody involved there. So I think that it's just natural for us to start there. There's been two real-life football games played since we recorded podcast. We obviously talk about the Holy and the Chiefs on this podcast. So we're going to talk about those two games before I think we get to the Chiefs. So that'll kind of be the back half of the show. I would assume as we talk about Andy Reed's answer to podium, which by the way, you and I on Wednesday show predicted how he would say that. Yes. We're also at some point. I don't know why we're going to get the two of throwing his back out while warming up. And then being listed with an oblique injury, what happened? Like, he was warming up and threw a ball and now has an oblique injury, but like went down to the ground holding his back.

Yeah. Like, that's like an injury I would have at this point in my life. Like just warming up, you know, getting a little pickleball and then just like, oh, this is like down on the ground, just rising around and pain. So we got a lot to get to. We really do. We get the season opener up in Seattle. Yep. Look, I know a bit of time people listen to this. It's not like it's like ancient, but someone ancient history by today's new cycle standards. My big takeaway from that game for both teams was Seattle's defenses ridiculous. And then warriors not even there. They'll off pieces this off season. And they are just flying around. Man, I can hear that D line is ridiculous. They've got guys like Noose who on haul off the edges. Warren great, but the good players. Unbelievable secondary. They can cover ground. They do a million different things really well. There's just so well coached. I mean, McDonald is just an absolute whiz

on defensive side of the ball. Unless of course you face my home today's guitar game, or which case you're both racing the first quarter. But he's an amazing coach on the flip side. Like I'm not worried about Drake May all of a sudden turning into a pumpkin. Yeah. But that game was deeply concerning in a couple of ways. Like one, A.G. Brown's for at least a month with a high ankle sprain. And two. Man, they got their ass beat on both sides of the ball up front. And that's kind of what the problem was last year at times. And they played good teams like they could not do anything up front. So now you know, in an A.G. Brown, you traded K. Sean Booty who was. I'm wrong all the time about stuff, but I went on record at the time. Karen just here on my own pot or whatever. I said at the time they got, it was the seventh round pick and a backup safety. I think so. What is the point?

I just keep on. Who cares? And now you can sure shall use them. Because now you're looking at pop Douglas and the footwear, uh, uh, verse Mac Hollins. And Romeo Dobbs who couldn't catch a cold barefoot in Alaska on Wednesday night. I mean, Kaderius Tony thought his drop was a great just. Kaderius Tony's like, whoa. Yeah, too much. So you're at least here to the other team. Come on now. I'm about to say, and Kaderius Tony knows plenty about killer drops and we go into the season on front. That. Um, and season opening games too. Yeah, now it knows all about it. Front of the new banner. Yeah, it's probably had like a non flashback washed in that. But in any event that it was just beaming with pride, one of them. But in any event, now I really like, if I'm a Pat's fan, my main concern is it. We got bludging up front again. And this is something that like if that's going to happen,

like May was sacked three times, they hit him five times. Because here's the number that's nuts, man. Like nuts, nuts. They had nine tackles for loss. See how it did making nine tackles for loss. That's insane. Yeah, nine tackles for loss. The pants are three. Like, oh my god, that is a stat. That's a number that something's on hit a month. No, no, that is to me. The concern coming out. I don't overreact about me. He was dreadful. Fine. The number that scares me is nine TFLs. That is a brutal number to have on your Elijah. That to be fair, that D. I think that Seattle defense is still nasty. Like I know you, yeah, you mentioned it at the top. But I think it's also I think I want to emphasize it like Seattle's defense is very cold. And I think that's part of the reason that they did get bludgeoned up the middle

is because Seattle was just straight up like better. Who would have thought Elijah Fair talker didn't fix things for them, right? Hilarious. But I do think I made it to the middle of the game. It's like, hey, Drake May is not playing good, but I think it's because this defense is so good that he's not playing good. And I would kind of tend to lean that way with the one game of evidence that we have. We don't have a big sample size in front of us. I would tend to lean that like, hey, maybe Seattle's defense was just really good in making things hard on on on Drake May in terms of reason, everything like that. I mean, I think I saw some people concerned about Drake May coming from New England. I think there's a couple of guys on the radio station over there. What is it? 98 something. Whatever it is, but they're talking about how like Drake May, you have right, right? They're talking about that Drake May was only running high school plays. How he's not making any NFL throws. I mean, that's aggressive. If you was to best the ball, throw a football last year, but leave it to talk radio to bring a real no-o-o state to the approach. I do think there's criticism to be had from the Daniels in the game.

I understand against that defense, you're not exactly going to be full throw, just airing it out all the rest of it. I get it. But at the same point, like, you got to like occasionally throw a ball past the line of scrimmage. Yes. You got it because I feel like part of the problem is Seattle is just able to go with they're not throwing the ball in the field. So, yeah, that. And then, you know, Seattle is keying in on the run. And the pets ran for three and a half yards of carrying. They had a hundred nine yards rushing as a team. They've really, I mean, made it 47. Like, Steven's in Russia, 2.8 yards per carry. And Corey Kiner ran for 11 yards and six carrots. It's good to me. I just thought, look, the pets are going to look better than they look Wednesday night. I'm not worried about May and long term. The only thing with May was a little weird was it felt like he under threw every ball. If you had no ship on the ball, yeah, that was a little weird.

So, maybe that's worth watching. Well, they played Pittsburgh in New England next weekend. Pittsburgh is already wanting to know because they're getting the Falcons. Yeah. Just a disgusting. And it's potentially Jack Strand is they're going to be the quarterback for the Falcons. How fun it would be if my car was just a game at all man. Here's the home opener. As Rogers is just on like I can't pay words. Podge is airing like every grievance he has in the world. I shouldn't be surprised, right? Like, I don't know why he continues to stuff on there then. I'm just not going to touch with the 10th ball like sometimes. Wild. Stuff that I brought down in the back. Yeah. Right. Yeah. I should don't say that in the public setting. We also know less about each other. Like my god. Yeah. Have something that he wouldn't even. Then he had all of the people who researched that out. If they lose the Pittsburgh at home, then I think it's a real okay.

So you're all into historically themes that are on to. It's rough. And then they go on the road to the Jags and the bills fine to weeks. So yeah, I mean, that can be tough. But yeah, listen, they be Pittsburgh. They're basically where they thought they were going to be probably before the season started anyway. Yeah. Just with that AJ Brown. I mean, that part of it does suck. That does suck. And then I always like this question is next week a must-winner can't lose. It's both. I'd follow the tip up. I'm going to check. Goes around Radio Roe over here at the Super Bowl asking if it's a must win. And like most guys get the joke and just laugh. Everyone wants a wall. Some coach gets like super pissed off. Right. Joe. Oh man. You know, you got to know what he's doing here. He's been doing it for like a decade. The cheese got so used to it there. I go, hey Dave. Let's all say if it's just there every year. And so they're going, hey. Yeah, I got to win this one. I did. When you were in the middle of answering that question, I or we're talking about the Seahawks. I had looked over the TV to see if the game had gone final.

And it had gone final in Australia. And I watched. I think it was Christian McCaffrey. And I'm pretty sure it was Fred Warner put on kangaroo suits. So that was kind of jarring. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, why not? When in Rome, you know, do what the Romans do. And I think the NFL is taking full advantage of that. It does kind of blow my mind that it's actually tomorrow. And it also kind of blows my mind when you listen to this podcast. It's also actually tomorrow. That's also a double kind of mind. It was a lot going on. Bro, for the Rams, you just flew all the way out there. Yeah, to get smacked got absolutely hammered. As I, all right, guys, back on the plane. That's a great way to start the year. Holy hell. So we're going to have to take a very cute little bit. And I, but I don't think you don't have anything else on Seattle and knowing that, right? I think we could have. Yeah, I think we both understand that I do think that these are two teams that are going to

regress this year, but I think that Seattle might. But I just think play, I don't know. I think these are two regression teams. This is what I'm trying to say. And I think I'm good seeing Seattle and New England play each other. I think I'm good with that. I don't need to see the last two times. They've seen Seattle and New England play. It's been horrible. It's been horrible. It's been horrible viewing. It's a travel for this one. Yeah, thank goodness. So let's talk about that. What that gave it happened on Thursday night and technically Friday morning at the same time. That's how you were. Yeah, that's. Times zones are always kind of a mind-fuck to me because like it is time traveling. Like it's like if you, Seth Kaiser, he went to Japan this summer. I don't know if you guys have heard this. If you listen to only what gave you obviously know he went to Japan. But he told me that his flight from Japan left at six on Friday in Japan. And he got back to Minnesota at six on Friday. Amen. That's time travel. It's a gift of time.

It doesn't make any sense to me. And it also, we've talked about this so much. But it doesn't make sense to me why they played a reggaerts using game here. It makes literal sense, which is why the NFL did it. That's very good. That's very good. That's very good. I like that. There you go. You're welcome. There's an old story. I've heard Bob Costa's tell. So when he got out of college, his first his first real gig was doing commentating for the ABA, the the spirit of St. Louis. Oh, yeah. And Marvin Barnes, who was an all-time character, was on the team. And they were flying. Probably was direction they would have had them in Goen. They were flying. Okay, it had to have been from like Louisville to St. Louis. So they were going, they were changing time zones, but the flight was an hour. And they actually like gained two minutes. Like gone. And Marvin Barnes, I'm not getting on that plane.

Why? If we got to get going, what's the problem? It's a time machine. We're all back in time not doing it. And they had to like convince him to get on the plane. So yeah, I mean, these time zones are a hell of a thing. They really are. It is kind of, it is kind of crazy. When you really sat down and think about it, like I understand why they're there. And I was, this is too deep of a thought to probably bring up on a football podcast of like, when did time start? You know, it's like, when did they decide? Like, this is when we're starting it. We don't need to do it. We don't need to go to that road. We should probably, you know what? I'm going to stop us. I'm going to throw it a break. We got bills to play. I don't know when time started because the break is five seconds. I don't I didn't have enough time. I go without the curtain when we record the break is not as long. For you guys, we've got to quickly figure stuff out. There's a show that the young people here probably have never heard of. Everybody loves Raymond, which is one of my favorite shows. My parents love that show. That that show is my mother's side of the family. And like now that I'm a sports writer from the York like we've really like we've come full circle. Great show. And there's one episode in it where the grandparents are arguing about when the lawn was invented. And it would remind me of that when you were like when did time start?

And I think who was the first person? Yeah. Well, you know, pre-fenced. It was like no, this field, this is my lawn. Yeah, this is my, it's 18 acres. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. It's my lawn. Yeah. Um, it is funny to think about stuff like that. Like who is a, who is the person who's just like invent certain things that you're like who the hell would ever have thought to do this? Like there are certain inventions that are obvious, right? Like the cotton gin by you like Whitney like back like, okay. Like how do we speed up production here? Yeah. But then there are certain things like who the hell stopped. It was like wait a minute. You know what we need? This. Like it is fascinating. I would, I guess time started with whatever person came up with the sundial. Yeah. You know, but I mean who the hell really knows? I don't know. No, I mean, it has to be because I wonder if they went in retroactively said like this is the time things were, you know, if it was like a this is when time is and like back then,

that was this time. Right now it's this time. Back then it was that time. I've always thought like as I'm a big history guy, I've always thought about the fact to read something like way back now. Like oh 76 BC. It's like right. How fucked do you know 76? Yeah. This is what you can't, especially if it's 82 BC. Like wait, it's always to be right and down and stone. You know, hold on a minute. I have my doubts. Also like what if it was like back then they were using like a 300 day calendar, you know? I mean, that's a great point too. For all kinds of throttles. I guess it's more, I guess more or less the question we're asking is like when did the measurement of time start because time is always existed, right? In its own. Right. I mean since like whatever theory you want to use, right? Yes. The big bang, the what is the one, the alien one? What's the what's the what's the Scientology? I can't remember how that started. What about you? Like, you know, so many other galaxies out there like are they all 2026? No shot, right? No, no chance to help because like they probably use an a whole different unit of measurement.

I mean, this is what you do. We have the round in a major way. Almost as bad as the Rams. So anyway, the ricks were in Australia. They did not look like they knew it because they played some God old. Oh my god. First of all, they rolled in about an hour before their 1030 kickoff. And then just proceeded to get blasted. The Marcus Robinson big time touchdown catch for the Niners. Oh yeah. Beating a different parts of the play. Trent McDuffie and Jalen Watson watching. What's it got beat again by Mike Evans for a touchdown? That was the one on one. Probably jail watch that tough game. Yeah, not again for 35 Mr. 54 million. I may or may not have wrote an entire piece for how McVase the best coach of football. And he just wanted to tremendous side of coaching trade.

They're going great. No, is that is this the Rams going out there after this just immeasurable hype this off season? Yes. And getting the doors blown off. Is that one of the funniest outcomes that could have happened? Yeah, you know, it's funny. Somebody has been on a radio spot like whatever cares like a week ago. They basically asked me. All right. So when is it one last time a team had this much hype going into this season? Hmm. I thought about it. It's like Rams a couple of years ago. I thought about one of the chiefs after they won the first Super Bowl. They run it back team. They run it back here. Yeah. That team was pretty. But the answer I came to was the year after New England won the 28th to 3 Super Bowl. Hmm. And they added all these pieces. And they were all legitimate thing pieces like is just teaming to go undefeated. Yeah. And they opened up against Kansas City up in Foxboro and that was the Kareem Hunt game.

And the chiefs just laid a waste to them. It's about 42 points. Sometimes crap happens man. I mean, now the pads that have gone to the Super Bowl lost in Nick Falls. That's what we all expected. You know, yeah. But here's the thing with the Rams. Next week they they play the giants at home on a Monday night, which I'm sure will be a killing. The following three games at Denver at Philly home to the bills. Could be a bumpy ride early. And they always lose the Philly. Philly just pulls that man. Every time they play in Philly beat some. Yeah, I still think the Randford very good team. Fair. Yeah, but the Niners put it on them. Something fierce. I mean, that wasn't like some like, oh, me. Oh, look, the turning point of the game was the the Rams are not 17 seven. They've ported the one foot line and got stuffed. And then the Niners went 99 yards and good night.

A sneak with staffer rules. I choice there, by the way. I was shocked man. Will you was in Corm and run well or game plus a mayor may not go in for fancy. And they kind of got one touch that. I was like, man, Stafford's not Josh Allen, Jaylen Hertz here. He's 47 years old. I don't know though, I asked him to do this. Well, this is the clone Matthew Stafford. Remember last year they cloned him. Yeah, if you can, he's back. The biggest argument against the Rams being a great team is that Stafford last year had an outlier season. I mean, he's a great player, but he typically does not throw for 30 touchdowns. He typically does not throw for a thousand yards. Like, man, it's different 4600 some IDRs and 46 touchdowns. The odds that that's happening again, not great. Yeah. Now, maybe they make up for that because the defense is outrageous, but they weren't outrageous in this game. The Niners again, you know, like 5.9 hours per play,

379 yards to 29. The 7 of 12 on third down. I thought that was one of the biggest things in the game. They have 7 of 12 for an inch of 9. Pelties weren't a big factor. They're easing the red zones three times. Niners cast into wise. But like, you expected in this game, as I did. Okay. Perties are going to be at the rest of the game. Zero sacks, two quarterback hits. One from Nate Landman, one from Josiah Stord. I gotta tell you, Andrew, you know, hopefully, I hope he was watching this game because Kyle Shanahan slowed that rush down by just throwing screens, and running the ball, and moving the pocket. And the Rams just could never hit him. He was just a moving target all game long, dunking it over their heads. That is oftentimes how you slow down a big time path for us. And the Rams had no answer for it all night long.

Juicela, be tasked with facing a big time, pass rush this Monday. So let's see the screen game come back. Because if I think I got some horses around the screen game with, yeah, I do think that when you talk about just the different approaches from these teams, I think we talked about it on Wednesday. I was so fascinated by how this was going to turn out for the Rams. Because, you know, I guess they travel a little bit differently as professional athletes. Because as as regular human beings, we can't typically plan on, if if you and I were trying to go and fly out to Australia for a football game, we could not leave it the same time that the Rams did because probably American Airlines would mess it up or Delta would mess it up or United States. Yeah, right. Yes, like that would be messed up. And like that's why you kind of have to give yourself a little bit of time if you're going for an event. Because the for some reason we just keep fire and FCC officials, you know, not FCC, FAA officials, you know, you don't need those. Why why bother it's more interesting that without them.

Yeah, it's true. So I mean, I always thought that was kind of interesting because I was like, there could be something that like goes wrong on this flight. And then you just like, don't make it. What was that? What was that? What have that been like? But it almost seemed a little arrogant for the Rams just to like roll in a little beforehand and then just play the game and then just leave. Like it's it seemed a little. All were too good for this. And I understand that from their perspective, this was more of like a long term this season play of like, hey, we're probably we're probably going to lose this game because we're rolling in 20 hours before kickoff. But we're not going to we're not going to be tied. We do or we three or we four or a body clock. So are going to be able to just back to regular time. Like that's what their science is trying to say here. I'll see how the Niners do in the next coming in the coming weeks. But they seem to play pretty damn well. Who does? I don't I don't buy the Rams thing at all. I don't and that because he lost. I just I still a little week. I didn't think it was a smart way to go about it.

And also like in the end, like people are human man. If it's tired, it's tired. I don't go to go after either of your meat. Like you tired. That's what it is. I um, I don't know. I don't see. I don't think they felt at all. Like I have to lose this game. I think he's just felt like, all right, we'll come in. We'll play the game. We'll get out of here. Do one. No, we'll go on. Well, you're going home all right. Now I want to know. And you know, listen, I think sometimes we just look at it like, well, you know, it's one game. That's that's. I would argue on it that she's Broncos game. Those people are game the whole weekend. The visual game. And it's been important. That's it. That was a home game. Well, I didn't realize that. That game Matt. Yeah, there's an old. That game matters. That is not some. Oh, look, as much as the wingland spit the bit, you're physically ill. You lost a drew lock like. It's a it's a non-conference game. Unroad. Yeah. It is the least impactful type of game you could lose.

The Rebels saw all games. The 49ers got killed in it. Like that, you know, that matters. That look, the brands are going to go on 15 and two. But you don't know. They also might go 10 and 7. And that might cost them a playoffs. But you know, that is a big, big, big game to just get panced in. And I, you know, we get so cute with the science. You can't tell me that getting out there and not really sleeping. Or they slept on the plane. I'm sorry, man. It's just a badge of, no, I don't know. It's just a badge of the NFL. Like the whole idea of playing. Yeah, it's a horrible idea. Or all the way here is just, is ridiculous. And I don't have any of those people either. I have to go over there and go, you know, work on the broadcasts of the game. Oh my god. Have fun guys. Here you go. By the way, thoughts on Luke Keekley as a color analyst. I thought he did well. But I've always, I'm a, I'm a Luke Keekley home where I will always love Luke Keekley.

He was, he was kind of that era of panther football that was impressionable because I was a Cam Newton guy as well. Because I Cam Newton was a very impressionable quarterback in my life. And so like I kind of latched onto those panthers teams and enjoyed watching them. And Luke Keekley was a big reason why I enjoyed watching them. So I always am going to have some bias for him. But I thought that he did. He has always been one of those guys that explains football very well. I thought he was a nice one. I thought he was a nice job. So Kuro's to him and Noe Eagle. But yeah, it was an, um, I think it's unfair to the NFL to ask these teams to do this. But I thought the Rams to handle it about as poorly as you can handle it. And now, uh, now they're going to get right back on a plane and come all the way back. That is about as bad as shit as you can possibly have. I'd tell you who didn't have a bad trip. Grant Cone, that did as an Australian celebrity. Now have you seen this? Have you seen them? They're like Australia people love him.

Grants, grants out there, man. Is it man or the people? I love them. I can't get enough of them. He said that Brock Pretty was playing as an MVP level quarterback. And I said that he's the best quarterback that's played so far this year. Well, I'm such an advocate involved too far. That is true. We got some study B too for three. That's a great, uh, great, complete. A percentage. Yes, Stafford looked a little rough. There's a lot of meatball subs being thrown out there by, Matt Stafford. The ball. I wonder. Yeah. Between him and Drake May, there's a lot of helium in those balls. A lot of meatball subs being tossed around by both of those guys. Tough looks all around for the for two guys you talked to be in the hot for the MVP again this year. Tough looks for that. All right, I think we got to take one more break. And then we'll talk chiefs. We'll give you guys a little little chief section. Then we have to talk about maybe. Maybe the worst take that was ever given in the history of takes.

And that's saying a lot. The take was so fucking bad. It got a community note. That's how bad it was. An opinion got a community note. Okay. That is. That is about as bad as it gets. It really is. All right, let's talk about that. And, uh, angry, it was at the podium on Thursday. And technically, words were said. But nothing was actually said. Chiefs shop chiefs tickets and more with no fees. Matt, did you see Andrew Reed's quote actually typed out and transcribed? Type and transcribed note, but I saw. No, yes. We both listened to it. I don't think I saw it typed and transcribed. That's why I asked you if you had seen it. Because I don't... It was the most non-answer I think that Andrew Reed has ever given in his life. I should give some context if people don't know, I guess. I'm not being a good podcast to us. I'm just assuming people know what we're talking about. So Matt Tarrick, phenomenal journalist, phenomenal reporter for Chief Stagest. Yep. He had asked. He had asked Andy Reed about like, hey, you know, something that night I talked about that like we need somebody to ask like, hey, you know why?

Clil Benson left tackle. What's the thought process there? You know, you got another offensive line. And why is it Clil Benson? Why is it the UDFA? What have you seen? In A.D. Reed basically... Basically said nothing. He ho-homed around it and said, like, hey, he's looked really good for us. He has got in there and he's looked good. And when you start a job, you will have to have some confidence. And we all have confidence. And it's going to be a good story. He talked about it as if some of you were starting a job like, Ace Hardware. Yeah. I thought in between my junior year and senior year. Yeah, you know what? It's a new job. Gotta get in there and... Yeah, just learn how to work the cash register and stack some rakes. Listen, um... Far be it for me to be critical of a guy who's got to, what, six super balls and one, three, and... Sure. Yeah. ...in the walk-in can. I know that Andy Reed doesn't like

to give really detailed answers. And that's fine. Like, he doesn't have to. I don't know. I had no beef debt. But it's almost... I'm trying to have right worth it. In some things too strong, it's almost like pandering. It's like, well... Listen, we know we're doing something really bizarre and controversial that has an unbelievable impact on our $500 million quarterback that's coming off of two-tour nailigments. And we know you have questions about that. But... I'm just not really going to give an answer. Like, I'm not asking Andy to put the team in a position where he says something that gives away competitive advantage. That would be dumb and insane. And no one should expect that ever. I don't think it's giving away a competitive advantage to just simply say, if this is the case, I'm just giving an example. You know what? We're starting clear on the left side

because we feel like Jalen could play either side. And... His... And Benson's footwork is good enough. We think it gives him a little bit of a better shot to pass, protect all that as you can spedito, whatever. Like... Any variation. I can be nothing like that. It's like... Just, hey, here's the thought process behind what we're doing. Okay. Fine. Yeah. Now, people like Yomik and Sid here and say, whatever, the thought process is dumb, it's crazy what they do. Fine. But at least you've given your rationale, you've given your thought process fair enough. Yes. To sit there and be like, well, you know what? Pretty excited. He's starting a new job on Monday night. Not cutting it. Like, what is that? Is an answer. It's just... What are we doing? I saw a type job. Can I read it to you? Yes.

Okay. This is what Andy Reeves said of Clil Benson getting a... Getting that starting job. He said, yes, so he's done a nice job for us. He's obviously shown us that he has the ability to play and we wouldn't put him in there if we didn't think that. You know, we've all been through that. I think we have... I think when we first got hired, we thought we were probably pretty good. And so, you know, that's what I want his confidence to be. That and go out and go play and just use his abilities and write a good story. That was the explain why he's playing us, Dackel. Yeah. So, like, that's the other part of the... Why I think people are so upset about this is... I think you kind of hit the nail on the head, Matt. It's usually there's a rationale behind who's playing where. Right? Like, we understood the rationale and the Super Bowl, even though we might not have agreed with it. Okay, Jo Tuny left tackle. We get that... You're comfortable with Mike Calliando playing there.

Like, when Nick Greggie filled in, like, you're comfortable with that. Like, you get that rationale. There's rationale. There's not any here. There's not any rationale for this. And like, that's the thing that's been so frustrating. I think for a lot of people is that I don't know how you can look at a guy in Clil Benson who was undrafted, was passed up by 32 teams multiple times, achieved multiple times, passed up on him. It didn't sign him until they needed more bodies for the rookie minicamp. Correct. And then say, yeah, that's our left tackle. That's going to be our left tackle. And the rationale is not... Because we haven't had an explanation. And again, this kind of goes back to the Josh Himmie thing a little bit. The lack of communication, I think makes things so much worse for them. If they were just communicate rationale and communicate what's going on, and I think that they're doing it to protect their players and I think they have the best intentions behind it. But it's almost the loops thing so much more than it really when they really mean to.

And I almost think it makes things worse. The lack of rationale here, I think, is making the things so much worse as well. They also like... Things will get leaked out of there about... Different players and where guys sit in terms of recovery and time like... Like, yeah, which by the way happens with every team. Like that. Fine. But when Andy goes up there and treats it like the biggest state secret of all time, it's just a disconnect for people. Like I'm sitting here where my next hoodie is as I pre-harmest time of the day since everyone in the championship just why not? Right. So yeah. The Nick still need to make people available. But the Nick's just... Like, when we on Rose, the GM and the Nick's, I don't think he's ever talked publicly. But seriously, it's just he's been the next GM. I don't think he's never held the press. Yeah, I know it. Unbelievable. They just, they're like, yeah, let's find source.

We don't care. We're not doing it. And when Tom Tibito is there, some guy could be like having a leg amputated on the sideline and so if he makes a tom, like... looked like so and so I had a pretty bad leg. It's like, nice, fine. And like you just found out he wasn't fine. When they willed him out there with one leg and had like a night form a few weeks later. They're like, oh, I guess he's not fine. And at least it was consistent. Whereas with the chiefs, it feels like there's not been a lot of, like when Drew Trank will hurt his back, it was like, oh yeah, Drew Trank will hurt his back. He'll be returning in a week. And that's what happened. And Trace Smith hurt his hip. He'll be back. And that's what happened. And then this Simmons thing happened and it did not go the way it was initially said to have gone. And now you have Benson replacing him. And look, I don't have a problem with Clil Benson's on the field Monday night. It's not ideal in the sense like you'll have to have

somebody out there who's maybe got a little bit more experience. But okay, they think he's one of the five best guys as Andy's repeatable. He said, great. Can you explain why he's playing in a spot he's never played in? Like I don't feel like that is an unfair or frankly a difficult question. Like can you explain why Clil Benson who has not played anything other than right tackle throughout his collegiate career now into the pros until you know, he played in the third but she's giving him a lot of side profile like six naps. Can you explain why you're making that move? And I mean, honestly, I think that's pretty easy question to answer. Like hey, it's full work over there. We like the line better with more on the right side. We, yes, I would be perfectly fine if he said that. Whatever, but I just sit there just be out. I don't know. It just pisses people off and I quite honestly rightfully so.

It's a little, this will probably be too strong. It's a little arrogant. A little bit. And I think it's, it rubs people the wrong way. Or it's gotten to the point where we're starting to rub people the wrong way in a lot of the in a lot of the sense. So I know there, and I know that they're doing it with the best intentions of protecting their guys. Like I know that that's why they do it. But it just, it comes off to a point where it's just like, okay, don't talk to me like I'm stupid. You know, just like, right. That's I think that's what makes people so upset when it comes down to it and all of it. Nothing has gotten clear in any sort of the situation around the offensive line. We'll see what we see when we see it. I guess is what we're we're all day to day in that regard. You have to look how the offensive line is. But man, it would nice to it would not be nice to understand what was going on a little bit. It really would like. It just isn't that hard. You know, I mean, like it really, really, really isn't that.

It's just it doesn't have to be something that is controversial or a struggle like why is this difficult for this game? And the way he reacts, I think, almost makes it more controversial, right? And the way that he's like, they're trying to keep the state secret in air quotes. Yeah, it makes it more of a bigger deal. And if he would just answer the question, everyone would be like, okay, well, we might not agree with you. We are reasoning, but I understand that you're saying that, you know, J. LeMore on the right side gives you a better chance to win. You're like, your offensive line better that way. Like, all right, I understand that logic there. I get it. But it's not comforting to know that. I will say that like everyone was a full participant on the two-centred report besides Chimai Conner and Josh Demons were both not expected to play. Ash and Jalotti, full participant as well on that entry report. So that's a positive sign going into this game. And especially with automation Thomas or our Derek Thomas,

either one you want to call him. Him being a full participant is also good. They're going to be needing those guys to get after the next company and that game. So Andrew Wise, I don't think the Broncos might have had one guy on there. And I think was a full participant. I mean, I'll have up and front of me right now. But there wasn't a ton of injuries for the Broncos. Chiefs all full participants, but outside of the guys who are not going to play on Monday night. I know some is being sidelined. There's a big deal. But they're relatively healthy for the game. Yeah. Yeah. You know, I said this in the last show. And I know you I think put it on the front clip that like it's idle. If they can't win a game against the Broncos at home. On opening night, the home's coming out. Kenneth Walker hold it. They can't win a game. And I'm not saying the Broncos like oh, they're bad. I think the Broncos were good team. But I'm just saying, if you can't win a game

because your entire team is submarine because one of your offensive linemen isn't there, you're not good. You're not a good football team. Like I don't care. The Niners just beat the crap out of the Rams on another day, on another continent. And we're missing like a third of the roster. Right. Substation. I'm hungry. Yes. I don't like I don't want to hear. I don't want to hear that. Oh, they, oh, they, you know, what do they want to do that? The next ones. The Broncos don't have Cooper. Yeah. Franklin Myers left and frazy. Half their past rush is gone. Like I don't give a damn. Go in the game. Scheme around that figured out. Shut up. Go in the game. Like it's ridiculous to me. They, if they, if they're that sunk because Simmons isn't there. Look, you're allowed to chip. You're allowed to help. You're allowed to. This is not rocket science. Okay. This is not impossible. How are we going to do this?

Dave, I watched them when playoff games with, with was Donald Stevenson? Is that, am I thinking the right guy? Yeah. Right. Yeah. Donald Stevenson, a right tackle blocking J.J. What? They won that game. They want 30 and nothing. So just, yeah. Just miss me with like this idea that they're just so screwed. You know, what are they going to, but I would like to see, frankly, a little bit more transparency out of the coach. No. I'd like to just see. I'm not asking you to give away some major importance secret. But I don't think it's the worst thing in the world to just go out there and give an honest answer that for a question that an honest answer is nothing, but, but a hell. Right. And by the way, lastly, it not only helps the media and the fans, helps your players. Because if Clill Benson goes out there and gets boat race Monday night, everyone's going to be at his lock or asking the question

that Andy wouldn't answer. Yeah. Hey, man, why are you left tackle? That's going to be the question that kids are going to have to answer when Andy should be answering that question. And I would argue that whenever Josh Simmons comes back and eventually goes to the podium, that's going to be the, hey, man, what the hell happened? Yeah. When the cheese could have been out in front of that for weeks, like, it's a bad job. An organization that in a lot of ways has been run very, very well for a long time. This, this instance, I would argue, it's a bad job. You know who else did a bad job, Matt? The Rams. I mean, there's a long list of people who've done a bad job. Two, a, a kind of, I, I kind of did a terrible, yeah, I mean, you didn't know, no, no, no, get around that one. No, there's no get around. There's a lot of things that are, this person pales in comparison to all those.

Colin Coward did a terrible job. Oh, yeah. I was thinking about Coward. I was thinking about Coward. I was thinking about that. I'll kite it. Yeah. Yes. Sorry. Sorry. I'm just because I'm sure Uncle Collins listened to this. He had a take that was so bad, as you mentioned previously in the show, that it was community noted. His opinion was community noted. It was that is a hard thing to do. Very hard. Very, very difficult. Colin Coward, this is Tweet from At The Horde on Twitter. This is our Boseau the week by the way. Boseau the week is going to buy easily the week, maybe further back. Yeah. Well, I need to find out. I need to come with a fun company that can present Boseau the week. We're going to, I guess, sanitation company. Oh, yeah. And you're like Ted's trash. I do our trash. Fast free shout out for Ted's there. I mean, yeah, maybe Novik can not. It's because I the reason I say that I'm guessing.

We know the reason you said it, man. No, we know the reason you said it. No, they're probably doing pretty well financially right now. Oh, it's not out there. It's something that's why I'm thinking they can do Boseau the week. That's going to cause a lot of trouble cash right now. And they just got 9 million new subscribers to the show. Or this to the platforms. Yeah. If you if you have a small business, I don't care where it is. The enemy. And you can be the sponsor of the week or not be Boseau the week. We are in his fore sale. Yeah, for sale. Wide open. Uh, Boseau the week calling coward tweet from at the herd. Quote, when Justin Herbert is missing a left tackle, he makes the playoffs. When my home says he doesn't have a left tackle, he doesn't. That's his kryptonite calling coward argues. Josh Simmons injury issues might doom the chiefs season. Full disclosure, Matt. Yeah, I didn't watch clip did not click on the clip. I saw the excerpt message. Hell no. So

two years of a Sean Slayows career, he has been hard. Okay, he played three games of 2022. And then last season and the charges did make the playoffs in both the season. So coward is accurate on that. He's right. Yeah, good job. They got absolutely smoked last year in a playoff game. And then they blew 27 nothing lead the other playoff game. Yeah, yeah, they did do that. To say that Herbert has somehow overcome obstacles in his career. And that my homes can't overcome. Poor left tackle play is one of the most staggering. I don't know how to say this in a nice way. I just ignorant opinions. I heard from someone who she know I'll walk better. There's a lot of things, right? Jay but chiefs that aren't positive that are that are fairly accurate. Always could be accurate. One of them is not that Patrick Maholams can't win without good left tackle play.

Right. Okay, can't do it. Sorry. That's just bunkers. The guy's got the five super balls and how the different have tackled on all of them. That's nuts. Like an Eric Fisher was the only one that was good. Well, and the Brad Jr. you want to argue is like fine. A clear two, I think. Yes. Donovan Smith, God bless him for what he left us with the post Baltimore celebration. He fought through to get to that playoff run too. That dude was hurt. Yeah, he was. And so like I coos to him. But he was at the end at the end of a very nice career, but was in the road. Joe Tune was playing left tackle on one of the games. Yeah. And their offensive line was so bad in Super Bowl 55 who was the left. I never met with Mike Remmers. I think my rimmers ended up playing right tackle because remember. I was the left tackle for that team in that game. Hang on. Let me look at a super bowl.

That's wrong. God that offensive line. That was before Creed and Trey. Oh, dude. Yeah. Like Austin Ryder was the center of that. Yeah. I was it. Okay. And then Remmers. And I think Alagredi was in that game. Buddy left tackle was Mike Remmers. Right tackle was Andrew Wiley. Which Mike Remmers. I believe played right tackle in another Super Bowl for them. I'd have to double check that. But the Mike Remmers. Like that one for the Panthers. It's your bowl 50. Maybe that's what I was thinking of. No, no, wait. He played. He played that. I think it was a lot of. Hey, whatever. Who cares? All right. Remmers. Alagredi. Ryder. Austin Ryder was Cedar. Man, Ryder being the bridge between Mitch Morris and Creed Humphrey is hilarious. And he won a Super Bowl. And he won a Super Bowl. Steven was news geek was the right guard on this team. With Andrew Wiley being the right tackle. And also everybody in the country picked the Chiefs to absolutely

bowl race. Tom Brady led Buckingeer's team. Any way. When, oh, by the way, they're left tackle. Got him. When you when you look back at this team, I did this the other day, like not the other day, a couple of months ago, I think. I look back at this team. It's like, oh, yeah, they of course we're going to win. You know, like you see they're like lineup. They're defensive being endomaconsu. Rikim Niyas wrote as former Chiefs. Jason Pierre Paul, Devon White, Levante David, Shaq Barrett, Carlton Davis, Jim Mel Dean, Sean Murphy, Bunting Jordan Whitehead, and Antoinette Winfield, Jr. He was like, oh, yeah, no wonder they won. Yeah, they were pretty good. And people who say that that team wasn't a quarterback away. That also drives me nuts. Because that team, as a, as a James Winston Stan, as a guy who will stand up for James Winston for anything, that team was a quarterback away. And they like to think that Tom Brady went there and did something special by taking this team to the Super Bowl. No, that was a good team around him. And he joined a really ready-made team to go to the Super Bowl. And he went to the Super Bowl and wanted.

Congratulations to Tom Brady for it. But it is one of the most more loaded teams I think ever. Yeah. So Bullock's not straight too far from it. The reason that we brought this up is Calvary's take is just one of the most obscene things. I'm sorry, man. Like, you, as I believe Nick Wright said, and like, with Stan with him on his, you can, you're allowed to have an opinion. We can't have that opinion. Like, you just can't have that opinion. That opinion is just objectively wrong. And I'm sorry, but like, what are we going? That is, that is insane. That is an insane take to the point that a Twitter was like, oh, oh, oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I'm sorry, but that's Patrick Maholms has had great left tackle play. Go watch, I don't know, almost any year of his career, post-arick Fisher.

And it'll talk to me about his left tackle play. Which at one point included one, the Immores and Kingsley Silmotte. Yeah. Oh God bless Kingsley. It's come a really good guard. Didn't work at tackle. DJ Humphries was involved. That's a whole way he's been involved. Yeah. Uh, the, the community note from Twitter says that Jesus have started 10 plus different left tackles since 2022, including four in 2024 when they finished 15 and two and reached the Super Bowl with guard Joe Tune and left tackle. They were 15 and two that year. It's a miracle I think, one 15 day. Yeah. Again, like, I know that we, we talk a lot about like, I did that whole 23 video. I might equally have to do a 24 video, be like, this is, this team didn't win the Super Bowl, but this season was actually nuts. Like, this season wasn't saying. I remember the Weeholy M. that Super Bowl is saying, I, to anybody who listened, like, they're going to win. Like, I'm just like, there's this team.

Like, I don't think there's the possible way they lose. Not because they couldn't lose like roster wise, but just because I'm like, have you watched this season? Right. You're just going to find the way to win this game. And they did that. They did that. They did that. I remember I just ran out of Super Bowl that night. I remember they ran that like slant to Juju. I think is what it was at the very first play they had it. I was like, whole body. Here we go. And that was the most explosive play they had outside of a garbage time deep ball to Xavier worthy. Yeah. I remember just like as I was watching the press box, watching them fall off. So you guys to pat 100 in New York, the LA news, somebody in mind, he's like, it got to 17 nothing. He's like, man, I don't 17 nothing to the change. Like there's a dirt can come right back. I was like, I gotta tell you, no, they're not. And it was 34 nothing. He's like, why you were right there not going to come back? I think, oh, no, let's see.

They have no offense. Yeah, right. Like my homes hides the idea. I think they have no offense. This game's over. I think this is, this is the yeah, but in any event, you know, listen, we're living in the dumbest of times. And we were graced by a take that even in the dumbest of times was so bad that Twitter rose up because like hold on now. Let's stop and think about this from me. This is also coming from the guy that said, we're good LeBron, Ben Simmons is here. And I think that this take might be worse than that. Horrible. It's on the Mount Roche more. I was just looking at the the chief starters in Super Bowl in that 2024 year. How will you remember the DeAndre Hopkins experience in Kansas City? I won. There's plenty of people when we went to the preseason game that had DeAndre

Hopkins' jerseys on aggressive. It is. It is. The man who's there for about an hour and a half. He was and then there's the only time in his career he forgot how to catch a football. I will say, well, I know, old habits like hard Kansas City. I, uh, I will say I'll remember it more fondly than the Kelvin Benjamin experience. That's fair. I think that's fair. It leads to more than fair. All right. I think that's all we have for this podcast. Not to everything else. No. All right. That's going to do it. We'll be back on Monday. We still got one more podcast for the chief football game. This is our, uh, this is our Cicifcian task. I don't think I said that right. We keep pushing this bulldozer up a hill. And every time we push this bulldozer up a hill, it keeps falling down. We don't have a chiefs game yet. We're going to push the bulldozer up a hill one more time and maybe the chief will play a football game after. Yes. We'll find out together. But that's going to do it for this Friday edition of that football show.

Plenty of good games this weekend. Matt Quick. Favorite game this weekend. Both staxes. That's an easy answer. It's also getting like the treatment, the national, the foe, national team, national televised game treatment. I don't know if you saw that from the, uh, for the broadcast maps. It's getting a, it's getting a good treatment. Um, Raiders tech tightens is this weekend, right? No, uh, Raiders dolphins. Raiders dolphins. Sorry. Yes. Tits. Yeah. Oh, that's right. That's right. You're going to want to get tightens in the early window and you're going to like it. And then you probably get the Raiders at home. I should know this. You're, you're all about those maps. Is there some poor bastard? Oh, let me see. Let me see. Who's got Jets Titans Raiders dolphins. Get them on the local window. Probably some sorry sapon Arizona, you know, it probably is. You file a one person class action suit.

One person. Um, okay, let me see here. Jets. Titans. Oh, Jets Titans is only in Nashville in New York. As it should be. Yeah. Guy. Be a hast of you. Yeah. As it should be probably. And. Oh, yeah. Now there's nobody that has it overlapped in for the. Would pin. A lot of, a lot of calls. A lot of, uh, a lot of all of this checks. Yeah. Now it's, so, so Nashville gets like the, the, the, they get off scot free, I think on this one. A little too, a little too easy for Nashville. Maybe Nashville deserves some punishment for. I don't know why, but maybe they do. They get to watch Washington at Philadelphia instead. That Tom Brady on the call. That might actually be equally worse punishment. Job seen Washington that I'm not going to be watching that. Damn it. They're right now. I mean, Dallas is clearly the best team that division, right?

I, I think they are. Yeah. But who knows? Barnwell's got the chief B in the Eagles and the Super Bowl. So maybe maybe we're all. What year is it? Says it going for the trilogy. Says chief's take it in a rubber match. Okay. Okay. Well, we just saw the rants looked like. So you know what? All things are possible. All that's a rough put all the money on the chiefs. It did. Here, you know, we can close with this. Here's a funnel of brain teaser. Ooh. If the chiefs kicked Denver's ass up and down the field Monday night. Are they the Super Bowl favorite by Tuesday? And I'm not kidding. I know that series. I think I would not be surprised if a book reacted that way, especially with like my homes and the past and everything. Especially if like my homes looks good. Yeah, they can't just win. Right. But if they went out and just really laid it on. Rescore game. Yeah, beat him like 34 to 10 or something. Like, are we looking at, you know, all of a sudden on draft

kings and cheesers just like plus 300 to what this Super Bowl. The Rams are plus 2500 has thrown them in the back. The Rams just had a historic offseason of like no one has been disfavored to win a Super Bowl like ever. And then like never mind, never mind. The world comes out you fast in the NFL. Yeah, I'm telling you right now. If the chief boat raised Denver, you watch with those odds look like come Tuesday morning. Yeah, especially by the way, if you get the trifect and the bills lose to Houston, you will see instantaneous just a landslide movement. But homes looks like the home. My God, they just won. The charges got beat by the Cardinals. Yeah, so it's like too crazy. Amen. I'm telling you, that's my hot day two minute warning. That's a game. I can't wait. That podcast is going to be so good if it is. That's a late game too, isn't it?

I'll tell you what. Yes, yes. If that's a game with the two minute warning, we're going live. Okay, okay. We will jump on for the final two minutes of Cardinals. Charging down. Yeah, we might need to we might do Twitter exclusive. Twitter exclusive livestream for us. Yeah, all right. Thank you guys so much. Leave a five star reading interview. I haven't seen any come through recently. So keep it. Let's go men. I mean, season started. So where are they at? So want to see those. But thank you guys for watching all the way to this show.
