The NHL trade deadline is Friday at 2PM CT, and the Chicago Blackhawks have already made a major move by trading Connor Murphy. Jay Zawaski and Mario Tirabassi break down what Kyle Davidson’s early deal signals and whether more trades could be coming before the deadline. The guys also discuss the report from Ben Pope that Sacha Boisvert plans to turn pro after his college season and what that means for the organization’s future. Plus, they react to The Athletic’s annual NHL player poll and share which Blackhawks were voted “most superstitious,” “most obnoxious in the group chat,” and more.

Welcome into the CHGO Blackhawks podcast. We are 47 hours away from NHL trade deadline
that we are in the Xfinity Loft more importantly than that today is CHGO's fourth birthday.
Oh, there's oh, yeah, that's everywhere. Oh, Jake smells terrible. Yeah, that's not a good smell.
And we love you. Thank you for being with us. We are so happy to be here today.
We are so happy to be here every day, but especially when the birthday rolls around a little bit of dunking, you know,
we get to do a little bit of dunking on people who had their doubts about us in the beginning, but man, we are so happy
to be part of this big day here at CHGO Sports. And we're so happy that you have chosen to take some time out to watch us today and every day.
So thank you. Thank you. Thank you very much. We want to tell you a couple things right off the hop right now until 7 p.m.
We are at leaders on Madison Street 1152 West Madison. We're doing a collab with free agent Mario's rocking the shirt is
cleaning silly string off the counterbedard jersey. There's another shirt. Who's got the other shirt on?
Sean right over here. Yeah, I was gonna
here's the other design available at leaders. There you go. So head over to leaders.
These visual effects on the park get these while they are available at leaders 1152 West Madison right there.
Madison and Racine ish just east of Racine. You can't miss it. It's awesome. We were there earlier today checking out our
exclusive merch and all the other great stuff they've got there. People are opening up like mystery shirts.
You can buy like a mystery packs. Yeah, due to open the coolest Patrick Kane shirt I've ever seen in my life from free agent.
Yeah, so head over there speaking of packs really cool stuff and Mario bought some packs of cards. We're going to open.
We're going to say for every 25 likes every every 25 24 pack. There we go. One more like and we'll go to a pack.
And if you can't be at leaders or you can we've got a die hard deal for you today only a year die hard
membership today only 34 dollars. It's March 4th. It's our fourth birthday 34 34 dollars and yes indeed that
includes the free t-shirt. Yes, and all the things that come with the die hard membership. So basically we're
paying you your paying for a shirt and you're getting all the other perks of being a die hard. Yeah, that's what value.
Do it. We've still got some tickets available. I believe for our season finale take over. Well, let me check.
Against the San Jose sharks. There's probably only a handful left if there's any April 15th. We're doing a takeover
that day for the season finale and you'd save 20% on that event if you were a die hard. So do the math.
You're saving a ton of money for 34 dollars for the year and we just want to say you know we all wear
the Chicago flag on our shirts or the CHGO name on our shirts and we're just so proud to represent
this great city we live in the great sports teams the great sports organizations that are here
and some of them not so great ones but as we say sports over everything and we're getting that time
a year spring training is on we've had a couple teaser days of warmth we're going to have a 75
degree day this week. Oh yeah. And summer in Chicago is around the corner and man there is no
better place to be. So thanks everybody who made this possible thanks everyone who hangs with us
every show whether you're only listening on the podcast whether you're watching us live on YouTube
catching up later it doesn't matter we appreciate it because without you none of this is possible and of
course all of our great sponsors as well so yeah thank you thank you thank you for making for allowing
Mario and I to do this. Yeah it's it's it's pretty much my dream to be talking sports every day
to be paid to do it. I'm not qualified to do anything else so thank you for allowing me to have a
job. Everyone who's been a fan of CHGO all this time and yeah to be here four years later is
pretty crazy. Longest I've ever been in a job really which is wild yeah since I've been you know
out of out of college and working professionally this is the longest I've ever been with with
any place and I don't want to do anything else like this is this is awesome the community that
we've built with CHGO with the diehards across all the fandoms the intersection of fandoms here in
Chicago it's it's just awesome so it's our birthday it's the city's birthday 189 looking great for
189 and yeah just just a really fun day and it's you know I today was taking my daughter to
preschool care and you know just talking about like you know my I think me or my wife was like oh
it's you know fourth anniversary of dad's work and I was reminded like oh yeah on the first day
of CHGO my true love gave to me ice back in 2022 took a picture the morning of like the first day
like before I went into the to this office here took a picture with my daughter as she was about
four months maybe close to five months old she's just little tiny baby yeah just sitting next to me
smiling and we took one today as we were about to go out the door and it's just like one of those
things that was just like man like just the passage of time and like it seems so short that we've
been doing this but it's also been so long that we've been doing this at least for for me how
the experience has gone so it's it's it's been awesome yeah again thank you everyone for
supporting us allowing us to do this and on to bigger and better things with you know
Chicago sports with the black hawks like it's things the the arrow is pointing up for for the city
for the teams yeah for us like it's it's great it's where you look at where the hawks are gonna be where
the bears are where the cubs are even the white socks you know they're gonna have the first overall
pick and they're starting to they made a good jump last year starting to turn things around a little
bit the bulls exist the fire are building a brand new stadium that is broke ground yesterday
it's a really good the sky obviously always competitive red stars everything or the stars now
so it's just a great time to be a Chicago fan I know it can be sometimes frustrating day to day
but I think over always frustrating it's sports yeah the frustration from hawks fans is the itching
and wanting to get to the place where I think we all believe this is headed so thank you for being
with us thanks for being a diehard our buddy Wendy city hockey said he just renewed his membership we
appreciate that 34 bucks for the year but it ends at midnight so yeah take advantage of it yep
if you ever wanted to be a diehard but you know just didn't didn't think it was worth the value
thirty for thirty four dollars for the year is the best value we've ever offered so jump on it
say is that the cheapest it's better yes it is yes it's the best value we have ever offered um so
yeah jump on that it's it's going to be it's it's going to pay for itself instantly I mean give
you with the free shirt that's the cost of the shirt yeah basically so you're gonna yeah half
dozen tickets left for our end of season uh take over April 15th home finale for the black hawks
against the sharks the Dardverse Celebrini it's going to be the youngest black hawks team you've
ever seen yeah pretty much by that time and uh yeah that's going to be in the 100 level
it's going to come with a pregame happy hour at crossroads right down the the street from our
office uh on on Madison street right down the street from the united center and after the game
anyone who is there uh with us for the takeover is invited to come back to the studio with us
and be a part of the regular season finale final post game show watch it live maybe get on the show
we'll have some fun with that show uh so that's all part of it i'm gonna be a good time I would say
I can't wait for that event but that means the seasons over so i'm not too excited about that
i'm excited for the event yes the event will be great the end of the season is such a weird
time as it's been for the last few years with with chto um because it's just like
it's like oh man the season's over like no more hockey but then i'm also kind of like i do like
the off season and like being able to like be home at a reasonable hour and like you know
having weekends be weekend yeah it's it's a it's a give and take but um yeah i soak up the hockey
as much as uh we can uh and especially in these last this last month and change soak up as much
black hawks hockey as as as we can and as much as it might be frustrating i think there's going to be
a lot of things that are going to make make it exciting uh down the stretch here all right well you
gotta open two packs of cards okay do we want to do the two football ones yeah let's do a football
okay so two football ones uh at leaders uh for the free agent company was selling the
1990 series of uh these are from scorer flier and uh NFL pro set so this is the 1990 official
NFL card includes one super bowl collectible one extra point game piece and 14 cards so let's see
also sponsored by sports illustrated kids which i used to have a subscription course
what a great magazine all right let's see how many of these players oh my we know
all right super bowl five uh card Baltimore colts top Dallas 16 to 13
so that happened uh 1990 NFL head coach of the
Baltimore Colts it would have been at that time Ron Meyer
Ron Meyer another coach of the new England Patriots Raymond Barry there you go you
have the coach pack huh by the way they were the Indianapolis Colts at that point were they
yeah 1984 they moved okay well i was months old in 1990 uh steve young
San Francisco 49 for the back that was pre-suitable steve young
ah there's all head coach Jimmy Johnson Dallas Cowboys air has not changed in shape it's it
yeah shape and hardness uh Kansas City Chiefs knows tackle Bill mass oh good play
Bill mass fan he's a great player yeah he's all favorite i have no idea could be uh new uh no
not new England uh Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Lewis Lips really good player here you go
Jesus another coach George Seifert 49ers uh coach I never seen this many coaches in a pack
in my life Dallas Cowboys running back her shoulder walker pretty good running was pretty good after
that that's okay Denver Broncos coach Dan Reeves he's one of super bowl uh Arizona how many
coaches are we getting Arizona Cardinals coach Gene Stallings that's a sick jacket though
that is cool that'd be the St. Louis Cardinals by the way in 1990 yeah they were in wait
you sir yeah they what when did they go to Arizona this is a history lesson from me uh 88 you're
right okay they were Arizona Arizona Cardinals defensive end Freddie Joe Nunn
in the crowd goes silent uh Cincinnati Bengals knows tackle Tim Crumbrey Crumbrey
Crumbrey number 69 nice uh Seattle Seahawks defensive end Jacob Green that's an easy one to say
uh New Orleans Saints linebacker Ricky Jackson and that's it for that pack all right so yeah
there you go lots of coaches in that one and now uh from score NFL football 1990 series two
very Sanders is on the cover you can win a trip to Super Bowl 25 with Hall of Famer Franco Harris
that'd be fun that would be a lot of fun back in 1990 when both of those things were still around
if that's a winner you should cash it in be like find a way make it happen sure all right
Franco Harris died in 2022 but make it happen gonna sort of Vikings wide receiver Anthony Carter
pretty good uh New England Patriots wide receiver Stanley Morgan before he went into insurance
Tampa Bay Buccaneers strong safety Mark Robinson who could forget uh New England Patriots
outside landbacker Andre Tippett ah here we go here's a Chicago bear James Thornton tight end
Robocop number 84 80 damn uh Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive lineman Randy Grimes here's a Hall of Famer
Jack Lambert it's a cool card look that to the side oh Mike single Terry of the Crunch Crew
yeah that's a keeper uh New York Giants running back Otis Anderson
49ers offensive lineman Jesse Sapo- uh Zappaloo
uh oh a rookie card for free safety Mark Carrier Mark Carrier bear bear uh running back Harold
Greene rookie card keep that one let's see tight end rookie card for Eric Greene I don't know
that's a green it's the green pack the green uh hey here's someone from Denver tight end clearance K
probably played behind Sianich uh Shannon Sharp for a lot of years uh New England Patriots defensive
lineman Ed Reynolds and finally New England Patriots quarterback Doug Flutey oh that's a good one
legend a couple keepers in there all right all right that was fun yeah we're gonna hit the
brakes on and start the hockey that's coming up next on CHG old Black Hawks

all right we're back on CHCO black hawks reminder the trade deadline is Friday at two o'clock
we're going to be on the air live from one to three so the hour before sent in the hour after
yes central time as we are in Chicago we'll be on as the deadline passes we do that every year
it's kind of a fun watch-along style show so as things break we'll get to react to them in real
time a couple things today Tyler Myers traded to the Dallas stars they got two picks for them one was
I think 27 27 second-round pick and a 2029 fourth yeah yeah and they're retaining half of Tyler
Myers salary so Dallas gets a big defenseman Tyler Myers is an interesting player I feel like he's
got great years and not so great years and great years and not so great years I really don't know
what to make of him good I know he's a good player he's a I just don't know how good he is I don't
he's he's a big rangey yeah right-handed shot six eight yeah big big fricking guy
big boy right-handed shot he's I mean he's not a big-point producer he's not a flashy player I
mean he kind of feels a lot like Connor Murphy and the return was similar Myers is a bit cheaper
yeah I mean he's a serviceable depth you know third pair second pair in a pinch defenseman
um so yeah that and that was on Dallas's radar Murphy had kind of been talked about with Dallas
but yeah not going in division is something that I think uh behooves the black hawks as they're
you know trying to make the most out of their value and you know working with teams in your
division you might have teams say like well if we're gonna give give you xyz you know it's
gonna come at a higher price or the black hawks would ask for a higher thing because it's an
indivision so um yeah Dallas so Dallas gets Myers and key for sure would it's an extension with
the sharks the sharks you have like five like five and a half million ish in the ballpark there
over five years or six yeah I think it's five years five years uh and then the other thing too
is now the uh Maple Leafs are holding out Oliver Ekman Larson Scott Lawton and Bobby McMahon
so probably because they're about to be moved all of them they are asked and they're they're in a
bad situation the Leafs because they're they don't have their own first round pick this year
they don't have a great prospect pool they're not in a playoff position and they're not in a
position to like sell they're really valuable pieces like McMahon's pretty good Lawton's okay
Ekman Larson's a good player but you're not you know you're not really moving like
knives you would you wouldn't move Matthews or Neelander or anything like that I don't think so
but like they're in a spot where it's just like what what do you do is it rebuild or you
trying to try and stand Bowman retool this on the fly kind of thing that always works you right
so it's it's crazy uh where where the Leafs are at right now um not contending and also not
in a position to fix it very fast uh oh yeah and the other thing the Florida Panthers who now look
like they're going to be sellers have signed away Louis Domingue to a two-way contract uh he was with
the Charlotte checkers after starting this year in Russia so could that mean Sergei Burbrowski's
going to get traded a lot of people speculating his deal is to be the case yeah that is an
expiring deal I'm going to go to cap wages here and see his uh cap hit it is a 10 yeah he's 10
yeah 10 million bucks for the rest of this year um I'm trying to see if they have an ever
attention spot Florida think they do I think Florida does have a retention spot available at least
one yeah so they could make that work somehow um I saw some speculating that he could go to San Jose
Sergei Burbrowski okay I mean the sharks are doing what a lot of people want the hawks to do
they're they're going to make those next level moves and they're trying to you know take that
next step I don't know if I'm the sharks if I'm giving up a lot for Sergei Burbrowski right now
though well like you're not winning the cup this year and you're probably not bringing them back
right you just traded for Yaroslav Askarov right he's your goalie of the future right so you're
going to give up I mean sure maybe they give up a late round pick but San Jose currently three
points out of a playoffs and you would imagine like I saw like Carolina that makes a lot more sense
to me um for a contender to go get him but the cheapest he can be for them is five million so
right how does that work well money in money out you got to you got to get creative with uh with
a deal there it says right now according to cap wages that uh the hurricanes have nine point eight
million dollars in cap space so they they could theoretically uh bring him in and make it work
yeah I mean it's uh it's that's that's an interesting um I mean that would make a lot of sense
from like a need perspective um Burbrowski has a 16 team no trade list so half the league he can't
go to um a lot of guys do it they just want to play in the east like I think that's Vincent
Tro check is like I'm not going west yeah every way he I think he said the words everyone knows I'm
not going west so that could be something he's doing right he could could say the same thing he's
only played in the east uh it's my understanding uh I'd like to see him go yes Montreal
hmm okay it's a good team I don't know if they're sold on motembo or dobesh yet and if they're
thinking they can make some noise in the east I wouldn't count them out mm-hmm no one in the east
is really you've got your the lightning are really good obviously mm-hmm but I think it's kind of
the lightning and everybody else and Carolinas two points ahead of them in the standings in a
weaker division but um I don't know I think Montreal adding Sergei Burbrowski at the deadline could be
a huge boost for them players seem to like uh go into Montreal so
that yeah that could be that could be in play for sure that's a place I'd like to play when I get
drafted they would not be on my uh no trade list Montreal no I would play in Montreal that is uh by
the top destination for me in terms of hockey road trip I want to take yeah right I would love to go
to Montreal we need something to happen in Montreal the draft is it not in Montreal is it this year
let me double check we're going and or no I think the no the draft is in Buffalo I believe
okay we get stick combines in Buffalo I know that means it's always in Buffalo it is in Buffalo yeah
yeah and then I mean I'm sure that they'll send it to Montreal I think it is happening soon
yeah there's always there's always events in Montreal hockey wise I'll go for anything just just
tell me when tell me why and I'll be there yeah if it's a Canadians and Sabre's game on a Wednesday I'll
go this is a place I want to go as for the Hawks nothing terribly new we know that Kyle Davidson has
been extensively scouting the Kings he was actually in LA the other night for that game um
but Scott Powers wrote his update today on what he's hearing and it's the same names it is Jason
Dickinson it is Ilya McKayev that's really the only names we're seeing so I think one of those
two goes I don't think both go I still think that Dickinson is probably the most likely candidate
I think the Hawks still want to try I think the Hawks are going to do the Donato thing with McKayev
they're going to keep them around unless they're unless their doors get blown off by an offer
but now you've got some teams like Florida and like Toronto that are suddenly out so a couple
players you weren't expecting to be available are now available so it sort of saturates the
market a little bit for something that was already a buyer's market I think they hold on to McKayev
and try to negotiate with him or they let him go test the waters of free agency and say okay
let us know what you get let us know the offers and come back to us and we'll see if it's something
we can do for you right and I think what McKayev is looking for at this point is term which makes
a ton of sense because what is he 31 years old this will probably be the last long term deal he signs
yeah I mean the way he's playing this year his value is is very evident on penalty kill and
and and he's having a really good year even though you know last year you can say oh he had 20 goals
well this year I think he's become more of that like niche player that if you're trying to move
him at the deadline a team would be like this is the exact thing he's going to do on our team
for the Hawks and you can maximize trade value there he can also say I've had a 20 goal season
and I've also demonstrated that I'm really good at five on five defensively and on the PK I can
do whatever you need me to do kind of thing um yeah I mean I I with McKayev like I I feel like
if I'm the black Hawks I really I really wouldn't want to go longer term uh with him max I go
is three I give him three I would go to I would go to at max that'd be ideal to he probably doesn't
want to do that because then that means he'll be he'll be 32 basically at the beginning of next season
you don't as a player in that scenario you don't want to be up for a contract at 34 because at
that point in the NHL you're on the older side of things um so he might look for for for longer term
if I know he's said that he really likes Chicago and all that and and I think black Hawks fans
like him and if they brought him back it would be it would be well received I just think
you especially with Kyle Davidson's track record of going through this rebuild and everything
I think he's really just banking on a lot of these guys that he's brought in stepping in and
taking over the team and McKayev can can be valuable to this team but I think beyond two years
you're talking about a guy who might be taking spots or time away from those young guys that you
want to take those next steps um and if he's dead set I'm like I don't want to do two years
I want to do four or whatever if that's not going to be the case then you move him for something rather
than he walks in free agency for nothing I would I would settle on if he is hell bent on it and says
I want four but I like it here and I'll sign for three okay I can live with that and figure out
what to do with him in the final year of that deal maybe you give that extra year and you don't
give him a no movement clause or you give him a limited no movement clause or whatever it might be
and figure it out down the road um because I do think he brings a lot of value to this team and
we all saw the Frank Servali projection of the Hawks lineup next year and a lot of people
pandered but he's right he that could very much be the Hawks lineup next year of I don't have this
in order but it was like Bidard green the Rikovsky Nazar Frandel Kansarov Denato Bertuzzi
Bertuzzi Tevo and then more more and Mr. Artis mystery center Doc Slagert uh yeah up front
that's what it would look like so that's that is all kids aside from Bertuzzi Terevin and then
pretend potentially mystery center and mystery center however that might be yeah so I'm not
opposed to having a reliable veteran guy taking play up and down the lineup also what's
remember you're bringing Roman Kansarov in you still have an election off here having a Russian
speaking native even though he's not the terpious guy in the world by any means uh Ilya McKayev he
can help those guys transition to the United States and you know communicate with them on the ice
all right we're gonna hit the break zone coming up next we come up with a news from Ben Pope
and we have a pact hope we do have a pact to open but news from Ben Pope that Sasha Blavare

cards we have a breaking trade oh we do believed Colton Perrico to Buffalo is going to happen
oh that's interesting. This is according to Darren Drager who's actually been on it so far with the
he's pretty good. Darren Drager is a guy. He's really pretty good. Everyone gets one wrong now
and again. Let's all remember when Ilio Sirokin was a black hawk for 12 minutes. That was a fun
that was Darren Drager. That was a really we have basketball cards we'll go rip through these fast
because we know hockey fans you know as many of these people as I do you're jacking there Merri
Milwaukee Bucks guard Jay Humphrey's nothing Adrian Danley of the Dallas Mavericks. I've heard him
boom Antoine Carr of the Sacramento Kings almost said LA Kings. Nope. Kevin Edwards of the Miami
Heat. Nothing. Ah here's a guy that we all know Craig Ilio of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Famous for getting owned by Michael Jordan. Kevin Duckworth who I believe owned the mighty ducks.
I believe so. Vlady Divak with the LA Lakers. There's a good one. That's a keeper.
Chicago Bowl Bill Cartwright James William Cartwright. Hey Jeff Hornsack. There you go.
Jeff Hornsack. Fun fact when I worked at 120 sports slash stadium I worked with his daughter Abby
Hornsack. New York Knicks Center Patrick Ewing. That's a name I know. Detroit Pistons guard Joe
Dumas. That's a name I know. Philadelphia 76ers forward Charles Barkley. Pretty good.
I know him. Indiana Pacers George McCloud. Sure. He's a basketball player. Boston Celtics
Dennis Johnson and Utah Jazz forward Mike Brown. There's a couple keepers in there. There's
a good pack. All right. 25 more likes. We get to 100 and we open the hockey pack. Yes. By the way
90s. A lot more quantity in those packs than you get now. 15 cards in each pack. Good value.
And there's 15 in the hockey pack to you. Well, parry code above for those interesting. It's
cool to see the sabers. The sabers going turned this season on its head. Yeah. Good for them, man.
All they needed to do is fire their GM. Damn you black hawks legend Kevin Adams. Good
remember 17. All right. Sasha Blavare according to Ben Pope wrote it this morning. I'm not going to
read the whole thing. But here is the beginning says the black hawks want to open up forward spots
before Friday's trade deadline to make room for prospects Anton Frontel and Sasha Blavare.
He quotes Mark Eaton later in the story. Mark Eaton, as you know, is the assistant GM
to the black hawks. He says it's a cliche. I've never been a fan of. But I think in ring
ring true for Sasha. He has the style of game that could make him a better pro than actual
college player. I do think that he's ready for pro and pro is the best next step for him.
He's had a down year at BU from transferring from North Dakota to BU dealt with the shoulder
injury early in the season and never really found the the kind of mojo we are all sort of
expecting him to find. Yeah. And putting up the big numbers. I've heard this before that some
guys are just better suited for the pro game than the college game. I've heard some players are
more suited for the NHL game than the AHL game. So it very much feels like Sasha Blavare of
all at least put a couple games to the black hawks here this year. Yeah. I think this season for
him, you know, it was it was a change. It was an injury. Seems like pretty much most guys at BU
are having a bit of a down season. So they're in a bit of a transition here. It seems. So yeah,
there's a couple of different factors playing in there. But kind of like AJ Spellis where, you
know, he's not putting up monster numbers. But like everyone looks at him and says like that's
a guy that has an NHL game. I feel like Blavare has that that factor to him as well. Yes, of course,
you want to see him be able to put up better numbers than he has. But I think, you know, first round
pick expectations are that he's going to play center in the NHL and kind of figure out where he's
going to fit in. You have Bidard, you have Nasar, you have Oliver Moore, you know, you throw
Boatfair into the mix. I think you have a lot of options. That's, you know, how your top three
centers could could play out guys could move to wing, see how it goes. But his physical stature,
his style of play is a bit more physical than most of the other guys that they have in the
playing professionally right now in the forwards group. His game is predicated to be a bit more
physical. Yeah, we've seen him in college on the ice and, yes, and allegedly off,
willing to, willing to drop the gloves, willing to drop the gloves and like play physical and we
know that's got, you know, he's got a background in his family of boxing and stuff. And like,
I think that is an element to his game that this group is, this young group is missing. And that
could be something that he taps into. Now, I'm not saying you draft a first round pick to be an
enforcer. No. But it's just, it's that added edge to the game. And he has skill and he has
size. So I think I'm very interested to see once he does turn pro, how many, you know, we'll see how
many games he gets by the end of this season. If at all, who knows, but you could go on a long run.
And then next year, like, we'll see where he's at in playing in the Tom Kervers pretty likely.
See where he's at in training camp. If he goes to Rockford, it's not the end of the world.
And yeah, like, I'm excited to see this is again, another one of these guys that we've kind of
been excited about and following and, you know, feel like the part, this part of the rebuild is like
getting these guys here, getting them playing pro. Like, that's exciting. Like, let's see what the
guy can be playing professionally before we even write them off or crown him. Like, let's see him
play a few games in the pro game and see where he's at. He is six three one ninety two. As
everyone knows from the draft, he is a fan and a practitioner of boxing. And as Ben points out
here, you'll want to be you would have to sweep their conference tournament to qualify for the
NCAA tournament, which it is like you said, a down year for BU. So that seems unlikely. And if
you want to see him, you want to be you out quickly. So it's not about American getting here and
play, same with Anton Frontel. And I think Scott Powers wrote about Frontel today too and said
somewhere around March 22nd would be kind of when you can expect if it's your guy.
The playoffs goes the way everyone kind of expects it to lose their playoff play in series.
It would be yeah, around the end of March and you'll be able to see him at our takeover.
Yeah, if he's in Chicago by then, even more so reason to grab one of those final tickets for
our takeover. Yeah. And as Michael Evans points out Blover is 19 turns 20 in August. So a couple
games in Chicago with then a rock for treatment. Yeah, you see what kind of what they did with
green and more where you might have them end the year here. Play whatever many are left of the season.
You burn that first contract here. So you get the free agency more quickly and theoretically
more cheaply and then see how they do in camp. And yeah, Nazar did that. Yeah, he worked for him,
worked for him. He showed up in the he showed up at the end of his season, played a handful of
games, went to rockford for just about half a season and then moved up. Oliver Moore did that.
Ryan Green was supposed to go to rockford and then Landon Slager got the sniffles.
So they brought Ryan Green up and lo and behold, he's been probably one of the better linemates
that kind of radar has had at least this season and has played really well as a as a true rookie.
And Nick Lardis too, like this is this is his rookie year and he's started in rockford and he
did exactly what he was supposed to got an opportunity to come up to Chicago and we're all excited
to see him get back here in Chicago. Like the playing in rockford is not a it's not a bad thing.
Big return for Colton Paraco per Darren Dregor. They're getting a first round pick and
redeem Merca who is the ninth overall pick in last year's draft. Wow. So two first round pick.
Six six two eighteen defenseman, redeem Merca going to Buffalo or to St. Louis reportedly from Darren
Dregor and a first round pick. So that is a massive return. Look, Colton Paraco is worth it.
A good player. That's the Sabers going for it. What is Paraco a free agent?
Paraco. No, he's got term left, I believe. Yeah, I thought so too. Let me see here.
Oh, yeah. Paraco is signed through 29 30. Yeah, it's so you point five. I mean, that's a really
good deal on cost controlled. He's only 32. I feel like Colton Paraco has been playing for 20 years.
I mean, yeah, he's probably played 12 or 13 thousands. Like he was a really a guy that I think
if I remember correctly, was early early NHL player. Yeah. So yeah, this year and four more
for the Sabers though, that makes sense. Like that kind of return for a guy like that with that term,
like and Buffalo, like they're going all in because they're in a spot that a couple months ago,
they didn't think they'd be in and they've been waiting. They have been waiting so long to get this
to get the. They have the longest active playoff drought, right? Of at least the NHL, if not most
major sports. So this is an opportunity for them to break that and yeah, I mean, go for it.
It's really good to see. I'm excited for the Sabers. They're just kind of a team I've always
kind of enjoyed. They always seem to have a guy that I really like on their team. It was, you know,
it was when I started watching the game. It was like Pat LaFontaine, Alex McGilney. And then I
really liked Matthew Barnaby when he was a Saber. Did you like him as a blackout? He was fine
as a hawk. It was just it was your classic like let's try to get this thing going kind of a move.
And you expected more from him than he's probably able to give. But man, that's a that's a big
return. It's good to see man. We're starting to see some bigger names moved and we are a little
bit afraid that this deadline was going to be a bit of a dud because of, you know, caps going up
and everything. But the other reason with this with the Sabers is it doesn't feel like Alex
Tuck is kind of an unoffence about like, do I want to sign here long term? Every year Alex Tuck's
name comes up in trade rumors like every single year. Yeah, but it's crazy. Well, they they
haven't signed them yet. And I think part of his hesitance to sign is what's this going to look
like? Right? Like, am I going to am I going to sign eight year deal to stay here? If we're just
going to be the same old Sabers year after year after year. So a move like this sends a message
to him of saying, Hey man, look, we're serious. We're not we're not messing around here. We're trying
to we're trying to win. We're trying to be good. He makes 4.75 million now. He's a UFA after the
season. Alex Tuck if he hits for agency is going to make a fortune. But hopefully the Sabers can
find a way to keep them and make them happy. But this is a this is a good move for them. I'm happy
to see kind of different teams getting active and going for it. Mm hmm. I think I think it's good
for the game to have some different instead of the Panthers again and the same old same old. Speaking
of you've got some new teams in the in the mix. Speaking of the Panthers, I know you mentioned that
they were kind of tanking it. That first round pick top 10 protective. Right now they'd be picking
9th. Yeah. So I would I would start if we're rooting for the Panthers to get a couple wins that
they're not supposed to. Yeah, I that's going to be rough. But hey, who knows what they're going to look
like next year? It depends on how much they're selling off. But we'll see. Are they just on the
downs? Like this one thing I was thinking about this walking over to leaders today. They invested
a lot in Martian and then it and they got Jones and they who else did they bring back Ecclid?
Ecclid too. And you know, you got Kachuk there and Brian Hart like you've you've locked in that
core of your team. I don't really think there's any rebuild on the horizon. Like that team is
they got to figure it out. And and not have I will say if they had barcov all year, they wouldn't
be in the spot. Of course, but that's a big off ski. What are they doing in goal? Maybe they'll
sign one in the off season? No, it gives these back. He's on Spencer night. Yeah, I don't know.
They'll figure it out. They'll they'll have yeah, they'll somehow figure it out. They'll trade for
somebody and then they'll be really good. They'll get your chest turken somehow.
Well, you can't watch it be a little run for swap. And he be and he be and he be he leads them
back to the playoffs. Yeah, you watch. We'll see. All right, we got about 13 minutes going to show.
Hit that like button. If you're not done yet, we've got over 100. We're doing the hockey cards here
before we get to hockey cards. The black hockey locker room pole, which was delightful for all of us.
Get that sound effect. All right, this is also from 1990. Score hockey cards.
Two years before my peak. Patrick Wa of the Montreal Canadians on the cover of this pack.
All right, first up, Brian Bellows. I'm Brian Bellows.
You're an all-star Bellows.
Esa Teaconin. Here you go.
Boiler Teaconin or is it Ranger? Boiler. Boiler Esa Teaconin.
It's Ronald Maybelief, Goldtender, Ellen Bester, good, better Bester, Mike Ridley.
Believe it or not. Oh, here you go. First round draft pick, 1990, Chicago Blackhawks.
Can you guess who it is? Oh, 1990, 1990. First round draft pick,
defenseman. This guy, you say his last name, I'm not going to say Carl Dijkhaus.
Carl Dijkhaus, there you go. I was not sure how to say that.
It's like it's spelled. First round pick, 1990, Drake Berahowski of the Montreal or
Toronto Maple Leafs. I wonder if he's related to Andre Berahowski. It's
Berahowski. It's spelled in French names differently. First round draft pick of the Hartford
Whalers, Mark Gregg. There you go, Mark Gregg. Steve Iserman of the,
yes, Steve Iserman of the Detroit Red Wings, aforementioned Pat Lafontaine of the New York
Islanders. Who's this? Bob Erie of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Good player, long time.
That's a landscape card. Brian Trottier of the New York Islanders, 1990.
Grant Führer of the Edmonton Oilers. Jeff Kortnall of the Washington Capitals, who could
forget? Pud. Randy Carlisle of the Winnipeg Jets and NHL Coach. And finally, Neil Rotten of
the Minnesota North Star. He hated Minnesota North Star. So not a great Black Hawks
representation in this pack, but some good names, some old famous in here.
I do have some breaking sports news and it's not hockey related, but I do feel like it will
apply to some of our listeners and the Xfinity a big takeaway. I guess we'll make this the
Xfinity a big takeaway because I don't really have anything else that would fit in that in that
hole right now. So we're going to tell you about that. In a second, as I pull the read up,
sorry, Chloe. Xfinity and I wasn't ready. Get their Wi-Fi for five years at the same price.
Oh, it's easy. This is the big takeaway. There you go. Presented by Xfinity. Imagine that.
Legendary Notre Dame head coach Lou Holtz has died. Oh, for me, for those that don't know
why I'm a Notre Dame fan, I grew up watching Notre Dame football with my grandfather,
who was my absolute hero. And my grandfather's absolute hero was Lou Holtz. That was his favorite guy
all the time. And when I grew up watching Notre Dame football, Lou Holtz was at the very
heart of it. So that's a massive loss to Notre Dame fans, a huge name, an icon in South Bend and
in college football, really. I know he'd been ill recently, but Lou Holtz has passed away.
At the age of 89 in Orlando. I'm bummer. I'm sad. Yeah. Yeah, Lou Holtz was a guy that when I
was coming up through liking sports as a kid and watching sports on TV, he was one of the college
football analysts. That was like the guy that I was watching and got to learn then more as I
learned more about sports, learned about him being a coach and coaching at Notre Dame and the
success and respect that he had gained there. And yeah, there's definitely a figure within the
football community that if you are even in there just casually, you've probably seen or heard of
Lou Holtz at some point. And he was a huge, huge help for Marcus Freeman. When he made the
jump to head coach, he was right there by a side to sort of help him through it. And, you know,
because I was unexpected when Brian Kelly was like, see ya, I'm leaving for LSU and everyone's
like, okay, see you later, but worked out for Notre Dame, not so much for LSU.
No, but Lou Holtz was a guiding hand for Marcus Freeman in his early time in Notre Dame. So
rest in peace to a legend. That was the Xfinity big takeaway. I didn't know what the news was.
That's okay. You know, Lou Holtz has been over my Xfinity subscription for years and years and
years. Yeah, it's always during your foot. Oh, yeah, you stepped in some silly string.
It's a way better area. We're good. Yeah. All right. So we get to this list here.
The black hole. Let's bring the vibes back upwards. Yes. This is kind of funny. And if you want
to read the whole, we're not going to do the whole thing. We'll do some select ones.
Scott Powers and Mark Lazarus collaborated on this for the athletic, going through a list of
pulling locker-room players. Not everybody was pulled in every category. So it's not even numbers
in all these, but I found this funny. Most superstitious Ryan Denado by a mile, 17 votes.
Counter-bredard got two Spencer and I got one. And Denado a little bit salty about it.
Says, I'm going to guess and say 99% of the guy says me said me. Sorry, I like to say a couple
prayers before games. I'm sure there's more to it than him just saying prayers. Yes. Probably. Yeah.
It's funny. So I'll do the last off the ice from warm-ups. Yeah. It's usually counter-bredard,
but when counter-bredard's not there and Ryan Denado is, it's Ryan Denado. And a couple of times,
Denado has been off after Bredard when they've both been on the ice. I talked to both of them
earlier this season about it. And Bredard was just like, yeah, I try. I try not. Everyone thinks
I'm really superstitious. So I really try not to worry about things like that anymore because it
kind of feels like I'm taking myself out of games if something's not going well. So I feel like
I'm doing less before games. When he's gotten to the league, it was like, oh, no one can touch
kind of Bredard's stick and all this stuff. So it feels like over the three seasons, he's kind of
gotten that rep less about being superstitious. But I asked, I was just like, do either of you care
who's last off the ice? And Bredard's like, I don't really care. Ryan probably does care, but I don't
care. So yeah, it's, it was interesting to see that result then in the player pool.
I think Bredard downplays it a little bit too.
Every, I feel like every high player is a little bit like no, no, it's not a big deal to me,
but hang on, let me throw my stick to the trainer, spin three times, get my stick back and then
make a circle and go back on the bench. Sydney Crosby has to stick handle on the McDonald's logo.
What do they lose that sponsorship? I think they've kept it because of Crosby.
Keep that you get like the hood. There's like a guy that's got to like go around the o's.
Yes, the owl eyes, the allies. Yes, that's what they are. Best dressed, this one was interesting to me.
Grizzly can night get four votes each. Felino gets three. Then Crosbyard gets two and Tyler
Bertuzzi gets two. Tyler Bertuzzi looks to me as if he just got done fishing. Well, you'll scroll
down and see worst dressed. Eight votes is Tyler Bertuzzi. Look, since they lifted the dress code,
some guys have still like going out with their suits. It's nice to look like you're going to
business in a nice suit and you got the money for it. Some guys like to do that. Some guys just like
wear sweatpants in a t-shirt, show up with their beanie and just walk in and play hockey. Yeah,
Tyler Bertuzzi likes to walk in with his half-buttoned-up flannel, his bush-late hat,
his work boots, and I'm sure a tin of skull or something in his back pocket.
Zinn, those are called Zinn's. Those are things too, yeah. He is definitely
taken advantage of the NHL laxine their dress code. Here's why he gets my vote because he is being
himself as best. He's just like, hmm, it's great. This is who I am. This is what I wear.
Love me or hate me. I like that. I like that about him. He's not trying to be something he's not.
So good for him. Nick Felino said it's just ugly. I don't want to say what I want to say because
it will probably be offensive, but it's just ugly regarding Bertuzzi's rugged casual dress.
Rugged casual. I like that. Frank Nasar was second in votes for worst dressed. That's interesting.
That is interesting. Elliott Friedman, by the way, hearing Utah and Calgary are closing in,
I know Mackenzie Weyardeele, that awaits his approval. And Frank Servali is saying that
Paraco has to decide whether or not to wave his no-movement clause before he goes to Buffalo. So
that is not done yet. It's up to Paraco to say, yes, I want to go. Okay. So there's that. All
right. Next we have most likely to be a future coach. No surprise here whatsoever. Nick Felino
with 12 votes. Conor Murphy got three. Slager got two. Dickinson Moore and Vlasik all with one.
Felino also was most likely to be a future GM with eight votes. Conor Bedard tied with Jason Dickinson
for four. I could see both those guys in management roles for sure. I think Felino,
Felino to me is more coachy, more hands-on, more, you know, more verbal, more involved in a day
today. I think that stuff energizes him. I think Dickinson and Bedard would do well behind the scenes.
They're both very analytical. Bedard in its mentionist article was like kind of like just a
huge hockey dork kind of knows all the stats knows everything going on. Aren't we all? No, I mean,
I mean, that in a good way though. Like he's just Patrick came was the same way. And I
a lot of people think Patrick came when he retired. We'll have a front office role somewhere
because he's just so up on the league. And you know, as we were telling you last season before,
you know, Bedard made this big turn in his crew. He stopped worrying about him because his whole
life is hockey. That's all he cares about. Yeah, that's it. That's all he cares about is hockey. And
you see it there. So I could definitely see him and Dickinson as GM's. But Felino to me is
more of a coach than a GM. Felino also most likely to be a future broadcaster. The top two votes,
friends of the program, you're well, you know, and Alex Flasser. Yes, you guys are welcome.
That's a good one. This one, this one made me laugh. Who doesn't get enough credit for their
role on this team? The far and away winner was Ilya McKayev. But all the way down with one vote,
Sam Lafferty. People love Sam Lafferty, man. He does not get enough credit for how much popcorn he
is eating in the press box that he is. He is he's helping the stock. Sam Lafferty is. I mean,
like, like, I will say jokes aside. He played 19 games with the hocks this year. That seems really
high this year. Yes. That seems really high. I was going to get single digits. Yeah, you could have
fooled me. I mean, look, jokes aside, though, to be a guy who, you know, has played upwards of 60,
70, 80 games in seasons the last few years to come here, be on a team that's in the lottery,
and you're not ever in the lineup, except for 19 times, apparently. Like, he could easily, you know,
complain and grumble and be upset about it. But he, by all accounts, he hasn't done that. So,
yeah, credit for him being able to kind of like swallow that role and, you know, move forward with
it. Yeah. And he also got best pure athlete on the team. And they always talk about how tremendous
of a golfer he is. He could play defenseman, too. We've seen it apparently. Yeah. Let's do one more
before we go. Most obnoxious in the group chat. Nick Filino gets 14 votes. Bertuzzi Burikowski,
Murphy and A's are each get one. I can see like, is Filino like the dad in the group like
sending holdings? Yeah. Using too many emojis. He's got to be. What is he? What emoji did you tell me
that only old people use yesterday, Chloe? The Sunglasses guy? That's one of my favorites. So
confirmed. Yeah, the Sunglasses emoji is very versatile. That means I'm cool and fun. Cool or
it's sunny out or I'm, you know, at a funeral, wearing sunglasses. You do a lot with it. Yeah.
We are in overtime. If you want to switch over to lchio.com for the last few minutes here.
But yeah, make sure you check out the entire article. We don't want to give away their great work
over at the athletic. So check that out. Scott Powers and Mark Lazarus collabed on that.
Really good stuff. Always funny. Always creative. Looking for more moves here before we move on.
Looks like that's about it. Nothing yet. Yes. We waiting for Perrico to agree to go to Buffalo and
waiting for. We're we're to approve the trade to Utah. I would imagine these both go through.
