Hello and welcome into another episode of The Checo Daily.
Andrew DeCheco here,
Eagles Beat reporter, friend, side of the birds.com.
And today we're going to do part two of my mock draft.
So part one, in case you haven't heard it,
I did day one and day two.
And then today I will do the remaining picks for the Eagles.
I will go back and remind everyone where I went.
And you can listen to the first podcast
for a more comprehensive analysis.
Round one, pick 23, Blake Miller, offensive tackle Clemson.
Round two, pick number 54.
Chris Brazil, the second wide receiver from Tennessee.
Round three, pick number 68.
Joshua Joseph's edge rusher from Tennessee.
And round three, pick number 98, Eli Raridan,
Titanen Notre Dame.
We'll pick things up in this podcast in round four
with pick number 114.
This is via the Atlanta Falcons.
Zaki Wheatley, safety Penn State.
The safety room will be without Reed Blankenship and Sidney Brown,
who land with the Houston Texans and the Atlanta Falcons respectively.
And with this shakeup, the contingent is now comprised
of Drew McCuba, Marcus Aps, J.T. Gray, and Andre Sam.
It's important to note that versatile defensive back
Michael Carter, the second, will be in the mix
and is a name to file away.
And second year pro Brandon Johnson, who, like Carter,
is a nickel by trade,
moonlighted at the position late last season.
He actually started the season finale.
And I think he injured himself after 15 or 18 snaps.
And then Michael Carter moved from nickel to safety
and played the rest of the game there.
And fair pretty well, both players did for that matter.
But similar to edge rusher, the Eagles could improve that room
between now and the draft.
But I have them adding to the position early on day three.
You can never make assumptions.
Wheatley, six foot three, two hundred and three pounds.
And he comes with rare size for the position,
which complements his athleticism.
And you pair that kind of range with a ballhawking
cover man in McCuba.
And I think that really would arm
Vic Fangio with increased optionality.
And last season for those curious,
Wheatley produced 74 tackles, two for loss,
and interception, a pass defended and a fumble recovery
all over 12 games.
Moving on to round four, pick number 137.
Chris McClellan, defensive tackle, Missouri.
So you look at the Eagles defensive tackle room.
And earlier this month, they extended defensive tackle
Jordan Davis and a pretty substantial payday
looms for Jalen Carter.
But when you forecast the future, it is fair to wonder
if they can also invest in more OJMO.
The Eagles did select Ty Robinson in the fourth round
last spring.
He didn't play all that much.
And this sort of a wild card going into 2026.
And fourth year pro Byron Young provided quality depth
last season.
I really thought that Byron Young was sort of an unsung hero
because he had to step in and play more snaps
than anyone envisioned because Jalen Carter
had the shoulders injuries and things like that.
And I thought, especially against the chargers
that really stands out to me, he did some,
he did some quality things with the snaps that he was given.
So he's still there, but adding a young player
in addition to what you already have,
I think would help ensure that the interior
has that long-term security.
And so I went with a defensive tackle here.
I considered Zane Durant from Penn State.
He's a little bit more under size, six foot one,
under 300 pounds.
But I have them going with a different defensive tackle
in McClellan, who's six foot four, three, 13,
a little bit more of a traditional build.
But it goes beyond that, obviously.
He's strong at the point of attack.
He has active hands needed to disengage from Lyman
and his eight tackles for loss last season.
Highlight his effectiveness behind the line of scrimmage.
He's also made strides as a pass rusher,
which is important to note here.
He's not just the one trick pony.
And that was evidenced by his career
high six sacks last year.
The Missouri product does project
as a rotational piece equipped to handle volume
if necessary, and then who knows?
Depending on what happens down the line
with the equals defensive tackle room,
I'm looking at Moro O'Jomo.
Maybe someone like a Chris McClellan can step in there
and give you similar production.
Although those who've listened to me,
you already know that Moro O'Jomo
is one of my favorite players to watch
on the equals defense because of the way that he uses leverage
to his advantage.
He plays with a nasty streak.
He's extremely physical.
He uses his hands well, really long arms,
but his unique dimensions make it very difficult
for offensive Lyman to get a hand on him.
And it's really fun watching him work and defeat blocks
and get into the backfield and be that disruptive player.
Those kind of players with those kind of qualities
tend to command a decent amount of change
on the open market.
So all that being said,
it may be difficult to retain Moro O'Jomo
when you have to pay others.
So you might need to look at defensive tackle
in addition to all the other positions of need.
Just to make sure that there's not a lull
that you have that long-term security
as I was alluding to.
And I think that might be a good spot to grab somebody.
And he would be someone who would fit the bill
and probably fit within that range.
We're still a month out, things can change,
but that's kind of where I have him pegged right now.
Zane Durant would be another player,
although he, as I mentioned,
is a little bit more of the undersized variety
and there's a little bit more questions as to
how his skillset may translate to the pro game
but also in Vic Fangio's defense.
Round five, pick number 152.
This also via the Atlanta Falcons.
I have him going with Trey Zoon, the third.
He's an offensive Lyman from Texas A&M.
In my estimation,
the most understated Eagles for Agent Departure
might be veteran offensive Lyman Brett Toath,
who inexpensively offered depth along the interior
along with invaluable experience.
That said, this class is right with replacements.
Brett isn't irreplaceable,
but I thought he made a lot of sense to keep in the fold.
And I also believe that his skill set
is a little bit more appealing, I would think,
to the presumed style that the Eagles are going to implement
in run designs and things like that under Sean Manion.
But nevertheless, I have them finding
a suitable replacement or at least a player
who I liked at the college level
that I think could translate into a versatile
interior Lyman at the pro level.
And look, he was a four year starter
at left tackle for the Aggies,
but Zoon, the third is six foot six,
three hundred and twelve pounds
and he has 32 and a half inch arms.
So he doesn't have the length needed
to play at tackle long term in the NFL.
And I think he projects best as a center guard
at the next level.
He may not have the desired athleticism either
for this offense,
but I think the versatility and experience
make for an appealing day three swing.
So I have the Eagles taking two offensive Lyman
in this draft, one along the interior,
who I expect to transition to the interior
when he gets to the NFL.
And Blake Miller being the first round pick.
Round five, this is a player that he could go anywhere
from round three, four, five.
It depends on where you land.
I view him more as a day three guy.
He could go round four,
but he's a little bit of an older prospect.
It wasn't until his fifth year
that he was able to really make some waves.
But last week, the Eagles traded to 27, 20, 27,
seventh round pick for veteran quarterback Andy Dalton.
And I have them adding another quarterback here
at pick number 178, Cole Payton,
quarterback North Dakota State.
And look, number two, quarterback, Tanner McKee,
is currently in the fold.
I think the Eagles are gonna be a little bit reluctant
to move him.
That's not to say that they won't.
Certainly, if they have an appealing offer,
I would think that they would pounce on that.
But there's nothing in the immediacy.
I should say that in the immediacy of things,
I don't get the sense from my understanding
that the Eagles are hastily trying to move Tanner McKee.
If an opportunity presents itself,
that's something that I'm sure they would entertain,
but they value the quarterback position,
perhaps more than any other team.
And I have them adding another one here in Cole Payton.
And they've never shied away from targeting a developmental arm
in the draft, you look at Kyle McCord,
being the most recent example.
And I suspect that they return to the well
and try to find that guy in this draft class.
And in Payton, who's six foot three, 233 pounds,
the Eagles would be getting a tough,
dual-threat quarterback with intriguing arm talent.
He didn't become a full-time starter until last season,
as a fifth year senior, as I was alluding to.
But he did pass for 2,719 yards,
16 touchdowns and four interceptions.
And he averaged 5.7 yards per carry.
So you like the dual-threat ability,
and I think in this offense,
that would be something that could be enticing.
We'll see if a team looks at that kind of well-rounded skill
set and maybe overdraft some.
But I still think that he needs a little bit of time
to marinate, not a lot of college experience,
and he's a little bit older.
So I think those, some of those,
I don't want to say nox, but some of those elements,
I believe, would lean towards a day three selection.
But we'll see, this is a really, really weak quarterback class.
And a lot of the quarterbacks coming off the board a little bit
earlier than anticipated wouldn't surprise me.
But Peyton will enter the league
with a minimal sample size, and he is fairly raw,
but there are tools there that are worth developing.
I think the Eagles add to the quarterback factory,
and the factory turns on,
and they add another arm, but they do have a lot of other needs.
So that might be something that some may raise their eyebrow.
But when you look back on the Eagles' recent history
and the draft, they haven't been shy
when it comes to adding to the quarterback room.
And that's not an indictment on anyone.
It's how much they value that position
that should be the real talking point.

Closing things out, round six, pick number 197.
Andre Fuller, cornerback Toledo.
The Eagles sign cornerbacks, Rick Wondon, Jonathan Jones
and Fre agency, I understand that.
And the roster has an abundance of holdovers
expected to contend for depth roles.
I'm looking at Keely Ringo, Chakurian Bennett,
Mac McWilliams, Brandon Johnson's there.
He's a second year player.
But at the NFL Scouting Combine, I should say this.
Because even though there's a lot of names,
that doesn't necessarily indicate depth.
And as we say here on Inside the Birds,
depth is not about the number of players
that you have in one position.
It's about the quality of those players.
And what's one more to add to the mix?
To really drive home the spirit of competition.
And Fuller at the NFL Scouting Combine,
made mention of Quinion Mitchell's influence
in shaping his game and preparing for what's ahead.
And last season, he had 29 tackles, two and a half for loss.
11 passes defended and interception
and a fumble recovery last year for the Rockets.
And Fuller sports a prototypical frame
for the perimeter, a six foot one, 200 pounds.
He liked the size, that hulking frame.
They were able to accomplish that by adding a rig wallen.
That certainly wasn't the driving force
but they're behind the signing.
But he does have plenty of length to him.
And that kind of leads to them being able to bully
wide receivers at the line of scrimmage.
And that's really the way that Andre Ford plays.
He plays with a physical edge.
And he has demonstrated a habit of competing through the catch,
which I think Joe Casper equals defensive backs coach,
Roy Anderson, the corner backs coach.
And Vic van Gio, I think those are things
that will probably really endear, I guess I think
that's how Andre Ford can really endear himself
to this staff because of the physical way
that he plays the game.
And he's not afraid to get after it.
I think that there's areas of his game that need refinement
but that's fine because that's a late day three pick.
I look at ball tracking, tackling has been spotty
but it typically is for corners.
He gets a little handsy sometimes
but this is a round six dart throw,
a player who has familiarity with Quinion Mitchell.
And I believe that if you get him to the pro level
and this is certainly not a knock at Toledo
because they've done a remarkable job
of churning out corners,
but you get someone like that to the NFL level
and they're able to kind of take their career
from where it is right now and move it a little bit further.
And that's what their job's going to be.
And I like his game, I think I think I've sort of illustrated
why and he does represent late round upside
who could challenge for a depth position.
I'm sure my opinions here will change
and my thought process,
especially as I gather more information
in the coming weeks, I will do one more mock draft
before Jeff Adam and I do our annual round table,
first round mock draft where we do it for all 32 teams.
And yeah, the draft is nearing close guys.
I mean, it's drawing near I should say
and it's an exciting time.
Baseball is back.
