What's going on?
Welcome in.
This is the Chekko Daily, Andrew to Chekko here.
And even on a Saturday afternoon,
the Eagles find a way to dominate the headlines.
And this news was pretty momentous.
It was reported by multiple outlets,
including NFL media, NASPN, that the Eagles
and defensive tackle Jordan Davis agreed to terms
on a three-year extension worth $78 million, 65
of which is guaranteed.
Jordan Davis now will have an annual salary that's $26 million.
His fifth-year option, which the Eagles picked up last year,
was about $12.9 for 2026.
And I was able to confirm that the Eagles and Jordan Davis
did agree to an extension here.
So big news for a team in which really
bet on Jordan Davis picking up his fifth-year option,
after he was really typecast as being a predominantly
one-dimensional player in terms of just being a run-stuffer,
which he was really good at.
But there were glimpses in 2024 that suggested
that he had a little bit more to offer.
And I think later in that season,
you saw some pass rush qualities.
That's not going to be his dominant characteristic
as an interior alignment.
But it is something that he's tapped into
and developed over his four seasons.
And the Eagles saw enough of Jordan Davis to suggest
that maybe they had something there,
maybe he was turning the corner,
they picked up his fifth-year option,
and he proved them correct.
72 tackles last year, he had four and a half sacks,
played 61% of the team's defensive snap,
686 snaps to be exact in the regular season.
All career highs.
And I think when you look at everything
that he was able to do,
the Eagles aren't just paying Jordan Davis right now
because of the season that he just had.
They're paying and teams across the league do this.
You're paying for what you're expecting the player
to do in the future years.
And with with Jordan Davis,
he has shown himself to be committed
to returning an optimal condition.
That was a big talking point earlier in his career
where conditioning was a factor.
And he was showing up overweight
and he wasn't able to play the full
or anywhere close to the full complement of snaps
and was sort of limited to a run defending type of role
and for a first round pick
who the team selected 13th overall in 2022.
Obviously that was viewed from the outside
as a disappointment.
But to Jordan Davis's credit,
he approached training camp with a different type of energy,
I would say, knowing that the team was sort of betting on him
and he knew that this year was really going to be pivotal
for him.
He showed up a trim, I don't know,
330 pounds at six foot six.
He always had unique athletic qualities.
He can move well laterally.
He's explosive.
Sometimes he'll get a little bit too high
because naturally if you're six six,
sometimes your pad level can rise.
But what I've seen from Jordan Davis is someone
who has continually worked at his craft,
defensive line coach, Clint Hurt,
Gushes, whenever he speaks about Jordan Davis
and he's been a prominent piece
as to why Jordan Davis has elevated to the level
that he played at in 2025.
And I think to look at the extension
and think that it's purely due to the year
that he had last year and the Eagles are being
a prisoner of the moment would be shortsighted
because Jordan Davis's breakthrough really began
late in that 2024 season and then he approached training camp
with a different type of mindset, showed up in shape
and he had to prove himself to Vic Vangio.
Let's not forget.
Vic Vangio is someone that you have to show them.
You can't just say it.
Action speak louder than words
and you can show up in shape and think
that you're doing all the right things
but until you enact those changes on the field
and prove that you can be more than a limited player,
there's always going to be those questions at Loom.
But he was the Eagles, one of the Eagles
most consistent players in 2025.
He was a key component not only to stopping the run
but collapsing the pocket and pushing the pocket
and bearing down on opposing quarterbacks.
And I think to a larger point here,
one thing that he really impressed me with
and that was very noticeable, even to me in 2024
but it really took off to another level last year
was Jordan Davis's ability and development as a leader.
He has inherent leadership qualities.
He's not afraid to be candid, to sort of be,
I guess a spokesperson for lack of a better term
and stand it and hold court at his locker
and field any type of questions that you need.
He's always been really accountable
but even more so last year
and we even gave him the good guy award
for the Eagles beatwriters who we get a chance to vote for.
The players based on their media dealings, professionalism,
all these different criteria
and Jordan Davis was a recipient this year
and in responding to that,
he gave a really compelling speech and what it meant to him.
And I think that's just a small part of the leadership
that I'm pointing to here
but it really illustrates the steps that he's taken
to take on a larger role with his franchise.
He's become a centerpiece for the Eagles
and I think year after year,
when you keep hearing,
it's going to be Jordan Davis's year.
He's going to be a breakout.
Well, I was at that point where I need to see it
before I believe it and I saw him in training camp.
I saw him wreaking havoc.
He got his hand up to deflect a lot of passes.
He was active at the line of scrimmage
and the Eagles, they picked the right guy
by looking at Jordan Davis
and believing in the player, believing in the coaches
that were working with him on a day-to-day basis
and he has been the recipient of a three-year extension
and it's well-deserved.
Now, there's other questions
that are naturally going to come with this,
such as, well, what could that mean for Jalen Carter?
If Jordan Davis is going to be making 26 million a year,
well, Jalen Carter is a two-way player
but also someone who can get after the pass
on a consistent basis.
He's been a dominant force at times
but he also has the shoulders injuries
that maybe you worry about down the line.
Is that going to be reoccurring?
And maybe you worry about some of those maturity issues,
such as getting ejected in that first game,
such as, as Vick Van Jo said,
he needed to get himself back into playing shape.
He didn't look to be in playing shape in training camp.
That was very evident.
Well, as a younger player,
if you have those kind of concerns,
despite how much of a dominant force you've been,
at your respected position,
naturally, you're going to maybe have some reservations.
I would imagine if you're going to offer someone
life-changing money and how that may affect them,
there may be their work ethic,
maybe how they go about their business.
That's just one element that I'm sort of mulling over
about what that could be.
I think to a larger point here though,
you worry about the shoulders injuries,
and if that's something that is going to be plaguing
Jalen Carter down the line,
and I've said this on this podcast before,
if I'm the Eagles, I'm absolutely waiting a year
before you pay Jalen Carter,
because you want to see, is this the same guy
that he was in 2024 and 2023,
and maybe last season in 2025,
was more of a blip on the radar.
You need to get more information on that.
Now, the other side of that coin is,
if Jalen Carter comes out in 2026,
and has a season in which he collects a bunch of sacks,
and he's just sort of the force of nature
that he's been for much of his career,
while the price is only going to go up from there,
and then you also have to worry about Moro Jomo.
Moro Jomo is someone who had six sacks last season.
Teams will pay premium money if you have
the past rush upside, and both Jalen Carter
and Moro Jomo do.
But everything that Jordan Davis has done behind the scenes
and preparing himself and taking his job seriously,
and going out there, and then parlaying that
into on field success, and you couple that
with his inherent leadership qualities
and growing role in that regard.
I think he exudes a lot of the qualities
that suggest he can be a team captain in the future.
You factor all that into the equation,
and because of those reasons,
he's going to be a Philadelphia Eagle
through the 2029 season, which should put him
at 30 years old.
So I think that this is well deserved,
and you love to see this type of story
and hard work really get recognized
the way that it did here.
Hey, I know a lot of you out there are just like me.
You either travel a lot for work,
or you got to back to work policy,
and you're always out of the house,
but your family is still home.
Well, I feel really secure with my family at home,
because I've got simply safe home alarm system,

They only act after someone's already broken in.
That's too late.

They even show love to the community
with specials for fans, students, service members,
and health care pros.
Camden Apothecary, top quality cannabis,
great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans
21 and up.
But then there's also going to be the questions
that sort of spawn out of this.
And that is what could that mean for Jalen Carter?
And for the reasons that I outlined, yeah, I mean,
Jalen Carter could look for 30 million a year
and things like that.
I mean, his agent is Drew Rosenhaus.
So they're not going to, in all likelihood,
take a hometown discount.
The price for him is always going to go up,
but you have to go out there and you have to produce.
If you go out there and you have a season
like you had last year, or you have games that are akin
to what you showed against the Bears,
where he was not impactful at all.
He was really moving sideways.
His shoulders were clearly impacted
and teams were able to take advantage of him
down the stretch there.
Well, I don't know that you can command
that type of salary, but there's a lot of questions
that sort of stem off of this extension here.
I do believe that Morrow Jomo, if he's
able to continue to build off the season that he had,
as a past rusher, those type of players get paid.
And so I like what the Eagles did,
getting ahead of things here and committing
to their young defensive tackle.
And it takes one of the looming questions off the table
right now, and they're able to spread that out over,
so they're not absorbing a huge cap ramifications here.
So from a strategy perspective,
from a team building perspective,
I really like what Howard Roseman did here.
There's never any shortage of storylines,
but this one here is one that we're not talking about,
AJ Brown, we're not talking about who's
going to leave in for agency, who could leave.
We're talking about the Eagles committing
to their young defensive tackle,
who is going to be a cornerstone player
for the foreseeable future.
That's going to do it for this edition of the Checo Dally
Andrew DeCechel here signing off,
enjoy the rest of your weekend.
