The Dolls on the Shelf Were Watching | Real Ghost Stories CLASSIC

About this episode

Real Ghost Stories Online is made possible by:

From the age of five until thirteen, she shared one bedroom with her siblings—and none of them wanted to be alone in it. Her brother woke from violent nightmares with unexplained scratches and bruises. Their bunk bed shook hard enough to wake them in the middle of the night.

Above them, nearly thirty porcelain dolls watched from a shelf, many of them secondhand gifts, and the trouble seemed to grow as the collection did.

One night, she saw a porcelain doll rise from its wicker chair and take two steps across the floor. By morning, the doll remained where it had stopped, and the chair was broken. Then a life-sized Barbie she had hidden on one side of the closet appeared on the other, turned toward the exact spot where she had been sitting.

Were the dolls causing what happened in that room—or was something already there simply using them?

What's going on? Did you ever think that it'd be 10 years? Like when you started this, did you think, hey, I'm still going to be doing this podcast in 10 years? I don't know. I mean, I want to say yes, because once I kind of got into it, I'm like, I'm doing this for the rest of my life. I thought I would be doing some semblance, some form of it. And I still live. So I mean, the thing is like we have, it's grown so much larger than I ever thought it would. We're doing true crime on top of all this with another of our podcast channels with your crime today and hidden killers. So yes and no, I know it's a complicated one to answer. And I always give long answers

to everything. At what point though, did you say, okay, I'm going to be doing this in 10 years. Like you knew it was successful enough that it was going to we started making money because initially it was like, you know, it's nothing. You're not making anything. You know, and it takes years to kind of to grow something out of that. And then when it got to the point of like, I'm making more doing this than my other job, which was making radio and TV commercials. I said, okay, I think this is where it's going to go. And I eventually kind of phased out of doing all the other stuff. And now all I do mainly is podcasting, which I love because you can have personality. You can be doing what you're interested in. And it's fun. It's not just a car dealership hat or something like that. Right. Right. So I think yeah, I mean, that took about a couple of years. I'd say about two or three years in. I really thought this is probably what I'll be doing until I'm dead. And I'm still standing by that. I mean, as long as podcasting is a thing or there's some version of this, you know, I imagine this will probably stick around for quite some time.

So yeah, I mean, I think I don't think I'm ever going to retire from it either unless like I can't talk, which, you know, that could happen. But that's happened to people. But I've already created the fake me. So I'm good. I have my voice is already emulated in one of the AI type things. So even if I can't speak, I can still speak. So I'll be going on this show when I'm dead. So when Harper eventually takes everything over, you'll still get me. Everyone won't know who I am anymore because everyone will be dead. But they're like, oh, that's your dad. Any die like 30, 40 years ago? Yep. Still a co-host. Wow. I'd love to have that that technology so I can make you say whatever I need you to say. Oh, I've got I'm guarding it right here. It is right here. I know the login. I know the password and only I have access to that at this moment. But I can only imagine what the hell my daughter will make me say someday. So that'll be, that'll be exciting to watch from beyond the grave. Then I'll haunt the shit out of her. Let's go to her first caller at 855 853 4802.

And to hear your real ghost story. Hi. Hello. Brianna. When I was younger, a house that I lived in from the time I was about five years old, to the time I was about 13 years old. Me and my sibling all had to share a room. We lived with my struggling single mother at the time and we had fun with it. We were with me and my sister shared the bottom bunk. My brother's loved home the top bunk. We were all terrified to be in this room alone at any given point in the entire time that we lived there. There was something about this room that that chills up your spine every time you walk through the door. My brother definitely got the worst of it. He used to have dreams every night that his skeleton was chasing him and like hunting him, trying to hurt him, scratching him, punching him. And he would wake up with scratches and bruises all over his body.

Totally inexplicable. There is no reason for him to have any of these marks. We had about 30 porcelain dolls. Tidying on the shelves that my grandma got for us every Christmas, birthday, holiday, whatever. A lot of them came from second hand doors and a lot of the troubles started when we started unboxing this when we gave my sister what we really do. I don't know for sure, but I want to say that that's where a lot of this came from. There were instances where the dolls would turn their heads on their own where I was actually sleeping on the floor one night and we had this porcelain doll that's that. I was little weaker chair in this doll, got up and walked two steps before I threw a book across the room.

Jump back on the bottom bunk and cried myself to sleep and I thought that maybe I dreamed it and was trying to console myself because I was so terrified and when I woke up in the morning, the doll was on the floor in front of the wicker chair with a broken leg with the book still decided so definitely not a dream. This thing actually got up and moved on so. My grandma also for Christmas one year got us a got me and my sister each a my size Barbie doll and mine immediately gave me the creeps. I didn't want to play with it. I just kept it in the closet and never to be played with again. It just it terrified me there or something about it. I just some energy about it that I could not feel so I put it on the left side of my closet the empty inside of my closet and that was it.

One day I got a trouble for mowling off to my parents probably and I was sent up to my room and my brothers as there were an instructor not to join me I was being punished and I wasn't allowed to go upstairs just to play with them so I had to be up there by myself and I was already terrified of that. Well I heard some shuffling from the closet and I was instantly terrified and crying and screaming to someone to come upstairs and my mom and my stuff dad came upstairs and they were like to get one going on I told them something was in the closet and they saw that my hamster had escaped again but he was in his cage so that was not the case. They opened the closet to prove to be that nothing was in there. I was like eight at the time they told me that I was too old to be scared of things that weren't there which whatever you know but when they opened the closet and like I said earlier that my side's Barbie was on the left side of the

closet they opened the right side door and she was on that side of the closet with her head pointing to exactly where I would have been sitting on the bed. It was horrifying it only made me cry harder. I made my parents grow that thing away the next day I could not even be in the same room as it without freaking out. When we started getting a little older and we started being allowed to stay up past our normal bedtime while the weekends and during summer being my sister and brother dropped and freaked out. There's obviously watching the only TV in the house. One night I woke up my brother screaming and crying and I looked over and his sheet was floating like six feet above him. There was nothing there it was just hovering mid air and as soon as I looked over it just dropped and I

was thinking so much about the rest of the night. There were times where I would be the only one in the house at all. I would be watching my brothers to serve but they would be out back in the treehouse and I'd be upstairs in the room. I think this probably happened right before it moved out when I was about 13 or so. I was upstairs just doing whatever the skaters do and I started playing my music and I just hear over the music someone screamed, turned that fucking shit off. Like what the hell and I thought it'd be like maybe my brother or sister had been yelled or whatever. I went around the house, nobody was there. I went out back and they were still in the treehouse. Absolutely nobody was home. We lived in a duplex. There was nobody living there at the time and the duplex next to us. It was just a horrifying place to live. I know that we all have our own stories of that place. We

all remembered a little differently. My brother says now that he doesn't believe in ghosts and that he had to stop believing so he was stopping so scared all the time which I don't know how that worked. Yeah those are my stories. It wasn't super creepy house. Only our room was the only place anything ever happened. I don't know if it's just where we were and this thing whatever it was got to kick out of staring at but let me tell you if that was a detention it did a really good job. One other thing something that would really keep us up at night was the shaking of the fun bed all the time just constantly. Me and my sister and brother were being woke up in the middle of the night because the fun bed was shaking so violently. Paper proofing stuff. I still have the bunk bed bell. Here we go. Although it doesn't really have some Mike. It doesn't sound like it works for Mike doesn't pick it up with so much like the Mike condenses everything so much it doesn't

pick it up very well. Maybe like two inches off the mic and you can't. I'm off the mic right here. Can't even hear me when I'm like just slightly off the mic. Wow but yeah that's there's a go a bunk bed. We haven't had a bunk bed story for quite some time and it's combined with haunted dolls so like this is the epitome of like a good ghost story. If I saw a doll walk across the floor that would be it for me like I'd probably put myself away. I just I just I just would because with all the stuff I've experienced in investigating and stuff like that I've never seen anything quite like that. I've had some stuff happen. I've seen some stuff move but like not a doll just walking across the floor. That would be it for me. Well be freaky or for you. Would it be doll walking across the floor or being somewhere where someone is like possessed and they do something that is there's no explanation for it like levitating or something like that where they're coming off the ground. I mean obviously a doll walking can't be explained either but like something like

that where it's it's completely supernatural. You can't poke any holes in it. There's nothing else to say. I think the fact that there's still a human element there it would scare I listen I would be scared right but I would be scared less the fact that an inanimate object walked that would freak me out and I know like the warrants had their museum of haunted stuff and you know the doll whatever Annabelle and all that kind of stuff. If that stuff is true I think like haunted items are scarier than haunted people. Yeah I can see that. What I think is interesting how many people like to to go sign up now to go be by the doll and it goes on tour these days and in all of that. I'm surprised that there hasn't been more I don't know things that have happened with that doll being out on the road considering all the myth and the legend of it from all the years past. Yeah so either the doll was never haunted or it's haunted and just waiting for somebody to do

something stupid at one of these events so it can jump into that person's body and take over them. Now that would be an awesome event to go to. I think I'm good. You have your smartphone ready to capture that on video and you got to think like a lot of people that go to like the ghost con type conventions where that would be at. It's like going to a NASCAR race. You're just hoping the doll does something horrible like that and possesses someone and it turns into a spectacle. You're not going there just to take a picture with it. You're hoping someone gets possessed but maybe and the fact and the fact that you kind of equated it to a NASCAR race in so many ways that is true. It's 100% the same. Yeah. All right.
