When it comes to home repairs, we could all use a guy.
Well, we've got the guy.
And we've got the show.
For all your home improvement questions, we've got answers.
This is the FixIt Show on WTMJ presented by J&B Construction and signing unlimited.
Now here's your host, Dayton Kane and David Nason.
Welcome to our number 2, it is Pi Day by the way.
Yeah?
So go get a pizza.
Yeah, absolutely.
Yeah, right.
What's your favorite pie?
Oh, chocolate cream or I don't know, pecan.
I'm not, you know what?
I really love fruit pies too.
Really?
Like a good apple or?
Good cherry pie.
I don't know.
I can't.
I'm a pumpkin pie guy.
I can't make, you know, a real, like that's a key lime.
Oh, key lime.
You know what I'm saying?
I don't know.
I don't know what about you.
Yeah.
You're Eric?
I'm like, oh, no one's talking about key lime pie.
Yeah.
I'm like, what's your cream pie?
I guess we like pies.
What did they always make on Gilligan's Island?
Coconut cream?
I think they had to be what they made.
They constantly made that one.
How are you, Eric Brown?
Oh, doing well, doing well.
So are you calling in today?
Siding unlimited this week and then outdoor living unlimited next week, I believe.
Correct.
Right.
Yeah.
Siding unlimited this week, which is a good week to be on, just the weather.
My gosh.
This is, we talked about it all year.
That Wisconsin's role is some of the harshest weather at us at any time of the year.
And, you know, we went from, I mean, just a crazy deep freeze in January, a warm up in February
that everyone's like, all right, this is crazy.
This doesn't happen very often.
And then the winds we had, we said a record on Monday for high temperature.
It was like 72 degrees in Milwaukee.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And now we're looking at snow.
Snow will get you.
Yeah.
You know.
So, so, yeah, that's what, that's the stuff we do.
Siding unlimited, siding windows, roofing doors, we protect your house, give you a piece of mind
so that when these storms happen, that you don't have to worry about your house.
And should something happen, we're available.
You know what I mean?
If we did the work, you know, our warranties are strong, we call people back.
We do all the right things to stay in business.
And that's all based on customer service.
But it's these harsh winds, harsh storms that Wisconsin throws at us that, you know, keeps us on our toes
and, you know, gives, you know, gives people a reason to call us so that we can be, be available to, like I said, peace of mind and protect homes.
Extra.
It products a big part of that too, right?
Choosing the right thing that's actually going to stay on the house when the winds are blowing like they were in it.
And installation.
Well, yeah.
You installed, right?
The installation.
Of course.
I think everybody understands if you're not tacked on the house, right?
It's going to come off.
There's a big thing.
But there are certain products out there that like interlink better than others or that have more strips of adhesive than others.
Yeah.
You both are right.
And that's what this show, what's great about this show is for the next hour, we can have that, that, that age old debate product or installation.
And for us, we, we really value both.
And, and that's not lip service.
Like that's the, that's the thing.
Like it's so many contractors, so many companies out there organizations that just want to get in and twist your arm until you sign a contract.
And then there's no meat behind it.
There's nothing, no substance behind it for us.
It's, we value our products because of the capabilities that quality products can do.
But Dave's right.
Dave, you're right with products.
Dave, you're right.
Installation has to be done correctly because we've seen the best products fail, you know, with poor installation.
So they both go hand in hand.
Eric's with us all this hour.
855-616-1620 is deciding on limited WTMJ talk and text line.
We're going to come back and we're talking weather and how it's affecting your house today on WTMJ and the Fixed Show.
Get her done.
It's the Fixed Show on WTMJ.
Dayton and David with you partly cloudy.
I have 36 today.
Thank you for joining us.
Enjoy today because then the snow's rolling into Monday.
Not as much.
I think we're going to get rain.
Not as much.
Here's a thought in the beginning of the week.
But up north still, they're still predicting.
Yeah, there were people saying we might get like two feet of snow.
They're still predicting that up north.
Hopefully it's shifted.
Like Lake effect and that's understandable.
So going into that first segment, we were talking with Eric Brown from Sighting Unlimited.
Sighting Unlimited.com, by the way, is the website.
And when we talk about product versus installation that immediately leads to warranty in my mind, Eric,
because the two go together there for sure.
Yeah, and you really have to have the product and the installation.
So when it comes to roofing products, you know, warranties.
Yeah, I feel like let's let me back or go back up a little bit.
When we talk about warranties, a lot of people we talk about want to bring up extended warranties.
And you go through, especially if you go to like a you go to a store and you buy any type of electronics.
And they're like, here do you want to buy the extended warranty?
And it's like, all right, well, I'll take my chances because they're extended warranty is like, you know,
half the price of the product itself.
I'll take my chances, you know, and it's and it's a way for them to just make extra money.
In the roofing industry and the roofing business, we offer these extended warranties as well.
And honestly, they are really good warranties.
They're very well worth it.
So it kind of gets the warranty industry kind of gets, you know, the commercialization of warranties has beaten up a real warranty.
So now I just wanted to preface that because when we get into roofing warranties and we show up at your house and we go through the roofing,
we give our roofing spillo, our sales pitch, all of that stuff.
We take you through the product, why it's better.
Our warranties are very strong and the product has to support that and our installation has to support that.
So right off the top, starting like, citing a limit, we offer a 10 year labor warranty on anything we do.
So 10 years right there is, I don't, not many companies offer that in it.
And one of the things you have to worry about is, are they going to be in business 10 years from now?
I mean, I'd like to think we are. We've been in business 32 years.
We're going pretty well right now. We're going pretty strong.
I actually feel like we're with install, sales, our office team, the camaraderie, the team morale.
I feel like citing a limit at its best it's ever been.
So we're headed in the right direction to back up that 10 year warranty.
But if that warranty, if something happened to citing a limited, like, I don't know, I can't imagine what could happen.
I don't want to think about that.
But if something were to happen, you're a homeowner that bought from us.
Okay, how is that warranty protected?
One, well, we're a quality company.
So right away you're using quality products, quality install.
So in theory, that should last. That should carry a long time.
But the warranty is the added protection, the piece of mind and certainty.
So there's not many of them, but we're a certainty premier roofing contractor.
And what that means is we're one of the top of the top when it comes to roofing contractors.
And the reason why is because we follow the right installation procedures methods for people in their roof when we install a roof.
We also use all of their products, which are all premium products.
And you do get what you pay for. So we're not going to be the cheapest roof out there.
I have seen companies that are more expensive than us.
I feel like we're fairly priced.
But we're definitely not the cheapest guys out there.
But our warranty is such that if we do, including the metal, which a lot of roofing contractors are scared of the metal,
we can replace your shingles.
Okay, well, what about the chimney flashing? What about my step flashing that goes between the roof and the wall meet?
What about the valleys? What about some of the metal around vent pipes? What about the metal around skylights?
Maybe those guys don't have all the right tools to do that.
So they give you a really cheap price, but they're not giving you a complete roof project. They're just replacing shingles.
You know, our ice and water shield. We talk about this on the show.
We don't, we don't hide it. I've been in other places on TV morning, the morning blend on channel four showing our tear test.
You know, that we use higher level underlayment ice and water shield products.
All of that give us stronger, we use stronger products, better install.
And that gives us the ability to give you a 50 year warranty that's backed by certainty that also includes our craftsmanship, our labor.
And that's a big time warranty. Like that's a real, that's like that's a legit warranty.
Not the, hey, we're going to hit you with, you know, this added cost for an electronic that's going to bust in a year.
You know, stuff like that. So it's, it's a, it's a real warranty.
I just want people to understand that because it's, it's, I feel like that's the real feel when people start talking about these extended warranties.
Yeah, that's like you said, so many people using the word warranty lifetime warranty and that's all out there.
You can read the, read the warranties that are on there. It's right on our contract. It's in the manufacturer's stuff. It's all there for you.
That's why installation is so important. Yes.
Eric Brown from Siding Unlimited on with us 855-616-1620. You want to check out the website sidingunlimited.com.
Thanks for listening to the Fixit Show this morning.
Advice you can use. It's the Fixit Show on WKMJ.
Thank you for joining us 825 on a Saturday, Eric Brown from Siding Unlimited on.
And we did get a text asking about the coverage area where we're deciding on limited all service Eric.
Siding Unlimited, we have our showroom in Waukesha and then we also have a showroom in Madison.
And we cover all of pretty much all of southern Wisconsin. I mean, we've, we've done projects as far north as even Shaboygan.
And then we have the Fondalak area, going out to Columbus, going out to Barabu, west of, west of Matt, going west of Madison.
Yeah. And then the typically, and then the border Wisconsin Illinois border. And obviously as far east as the, as the water.
There you go. Second part of that was I have what appears to be hardy plank siding on the house, but the vertical trim on the exterior, the fireplace, I believe is cedar.
Can that be replaced with hardy plank siding or the trim boards? Yeah. Yes.
So, but there's when it comes to replacing trim boards and trying to keep the siding, you got to be careful because if it depends on the width of the product.
It also depends on the thickness because tearing off the cedar and then putting up a board that might be, you know, if it's a little, sometimes the boards are a little narrower.
Well, then that's not going to cover. It's not going to get to the siding the right way or if the board is slightly wider than the trim board or sometimes the cedar is the true six quarter, which is the wider.
I mean, it measures out an inch and a half.
And it's a very, they call it a, yeah, the six quarter or another eight quarter measures out an inch and a half.
The six quarter is a little over an inch, I believe, or an inch and a quarter, something like that.
Oh, Dave, you probably have a handle on those, on those, those sizes. But when you, when you overlap them in the corner, because they, if it's a two piece corner, they have to overlap.
And that's where you can get in trouble with with with. And now you're not meeting the siding, you know, you're sometimes a half an inch away from the siding.
And you'd have to put in a big ugly beta cock and it becomes a mess.
Well, and I would say, you know, depending on the age of the siding, that can be a little tricky too, because, you know, hardy plank, you know, it's been around a long time.
Good product. I think it has to be installed exactly to its standards, really, to the last that's just my opinion.
But when it starts to get old, it gets, it gets pretty brittle.
And you start pulling off the trim boards and you could cause some damage to the siding.
So somebody, depending on the age of it, you might, might want to consider just residing the entire chimney chase.
Yeah, I agree. And even with that, whenever we sell like a window job and Dayton, you can attest to the state and one of our sales reps and talking to people about this all time, we, we have to disclose in the contract when we're working around fiber cement siding products.
That, you know, we're not responsible if they crack or break while we're working around it. We do the best we can, but it becomes Dave's really, you're right. It becomes a brittle product.
Especially around windows, because you're getting that oftentimes a very thin piece of it around the bottom or over the top of it.
It's hard to work around, but okay. Yeah, speaking of speaking of windows, we were talking about warranties and windows or roofing before when it comes to windows.
Most of our windows are lifetime warranty. We've got the sunrise. We've got the Pella reserve and lifestyle series.
Yeah. So, so in the, in the previous segment, we were talking about roofing and warranties and our 10 year labor warranty carries on with windows and siding, you know, roofing doors, all of that stuff.
So everything's siding on limited does. We have a 10 year labor warranty on it. So windows, we have the 10 year labor warranty. And then the products themselves also have.
So, yeah, the sunrise vinyl windows we use is a lifetime warranty, the whole product.
And it's wild because I like telling the story. I was 20, it was, no, it was 25 years ago. Now I can say that 2001, 2001.
We installed windows in my mother and father-in-law's house and they still love me. So like that's a good thing, right?
Those windows look brand new and those were sunrise vinyl windows. So they look brand new, haven't had any issues with glass, with the frame, anything.
We also installed those in my parent's house, not long after that. I think those were about 22 years old. They look brand new. They really look fantastic. They're performing.
So that's a product of the lifetime warranty. As you mentioned, lifestyle and reserve are Pellas wood products. And they have a lifetime warranty on the wood, on the glass, and on the aluminum exterior, the aluminum cladding on the exterior of the window, which I mean that's like 99% of the window right there is on the lifetime warranty for Pellas.
And what's slick is that you can not just buy windows and have peace of mind. They're going to last a long time. The warranties are going to stay intact. We're going to stand behind it.
But they're going to perform. And I just think with the high value, the high winds that we just had, that everybody when we get on the radio, we always talk about the glass.
And people will throw dual pain glass versus triple pain glass and all of that.
Imagine this because this is happening. This is out there is you get the best glass in the world in the window that has dual weather stripping or horrible air infiltration rates.
Think about that. You have the best glass in the world. You're sold on the best glass. Even you listen to this show from another company that might be on here.
Our competition saying, how do they have the best glass? Put that window in your house and all of a sudden you're feeling the draft. You feel the air blowing through because their air infiltration rates might not be as good as the windows that we use.
And so now you have to think about when you're purchasing a window. Am I just buying the glass? No, you're buying the whole window, the whole frame, the weather stripping, the glass itself.
What are all the components doing that's going to provide you security and comfort in that window and air infiltration is a big deal.
And we do have some of the lowest air infiltration rates in the in the industry.
Eric, when we come back, let's talk a little bit more about that because I have a question for you on on that exact thing.
But we do have to go to the WT and J breaking new center with Elizabeth Linton and good morning Elizabeth.
Dayton and David, it's the fix it show on WT MJ.
Thank you for joining us partly cloudy 36 today. We do have the box playing at 2 p.m. in Atlanta. So not here in Milwaukee. So that frees up the Pfizer.
Dayton, Kaden and David nascent with Eric Brown from citing unlimited. We did have somebody ask if you install patio doors in Dodge County.
Yes, absolutely. Yeah, Dodge County for sure. That's alright. That's that's well. That's like probably the center of our area.
Now we've added Madison. Yeah. Yeah, that's just just making sure I knew I knew the answer, but I want you to say let's like that.
Was it asherton? Yeah, that's in the old show. Right.
Is Rubicon? Is that Dodge County? That is. Okay. That's on the eastern side of it.
I'm used to playing immensely out that way. So if somebody wants to get a patio door from citing unlimited.
What's their next step? What should they be doing?
Anything patio door or anything? Give us call. You know, our showroom. We have we have our showroom hours in our showrooms open during the day.
And on Saturdays till noon. It's Monday through Friday and on Saturdays till noon. The absolute best way is to get ahold of us.
One way or another. We're not hiding from anybody. Now I mean, you'll see us on. I'm out. We're on the radio this morning. We're on TV. We're on billboards. All that stuff.
We're not hiding. We're available for people. Give us call 262-567-4513.
Otherwise, go on to sidinganlimited.com and a form fill. And those form fills actually come to me. So I see them on my in my email.
I get them to our sales team and then we reach out the best thing to do though. If you're you know, give yourself an opportunity to.
Set up one-on-one appointment with one of one of our sales people, one of our sales guys, Dayton's one of them. So Dayton, Dayton, obviously the host of the show, he puts himself out there. He's a really good guy.
We have a team of of of Dayton's. We have a team of really good, really good people that are willing to answer questions.
Just last week I was talking to somebody. I was I was working in our showroom at one of the tables and a couple came in and they started apologizing for asking me questions, thinking that they just popped in and that they were disturbing me from my job.
I'm like, no, no, this is what I do. This is my job. Our job is to be available for people to ask these questions.
So, yeah, website, phone call, but also ideas, like trying to get ideas, go to go to sidingonlimited.com. If you have Instagram, I love Instagram.
It's a social media if you don't know what it is, but Instagram, siding on limited LLC, go to our Instagram page. We have all kinds of drone footage, images, pictures of all different projects that we've done.
It's a great resource. So, yeah, we're willing to be available to people that ask and the best thing you can do is call us up.
Set up that one on one and now you're going to get all all undivided attention, all your questions answered and we're going to throw ideas at you.
So, Bob from Greenfield texted in, you got him thinking when you used to talk to do a pain versus triple pain. He wants to talk about the pros and cons of the triple pain pillow windows specifically.
He asked in his and then the pillow fibrics, which isn't a thing.
Tell it tell it. They have fiberglass.
Right. Fibrex is a proprietary to a different company. But, but yes, they have fiberglass. Got it.
Yeah, the fibrics is, yeah, it's not even a fiberglass. They used been, it kind of sounds like it, but it's not fiberglass.
It's a composite material, yeah, to a date and set a competing brand.
But, which, which, if you're sold on that Fibrex exterior, we can do that with the Anderson 400 series.
We sell that product and that's a real wood interior with a Fibrex exterior so we can do that.
But, as far as triple pain goes, I'll tell you, I, in my house, seven years ago, I installed power lifestyle three windows.
I have all casement and picture windows and that's triple pain.
It is the way pellets sets up their triple pain with their lifestyle three is the dual pain that's the seal of unit that's got the argon gas and the low E coating on it for the reflective,
the low E coating reflects the UV rays back out so they don't go in the house.
And then the argon is just that buffer that air buffer to help keep the energy separated from outside it inside.
And the triple pain, the third pain is a third pain that's about an inch in from the, from the sealed unit.
And that has a bulb weather seal that's when it's snapped in the place, it's sealed off.
You don't get any dust or moisture in between that glass when it's snapped into place because of that weather seal.
We've been using the system for, gosh, I mean, as long as pellets been put, I think it's about a 30 year old system, the specific one.
I mean, it had an adjustment from designer series to lifestyle three so they did the name change with a little, a little bit of a product change in there, but it basically stayed the same as far as the function of it.
It's been a great product. Like I said, I have it in my house. I love it.
The nice thing about that triple pain versus others is that you have about an inch in five eighths of between the outer pain of glass that's outside your house and the inside surface of that glass pack.
It's about an inch and five eighths. That's the widest buffer of anybody's window for residential for residential windows. That's the widest buffer.
So when they say the best insulator is dead airspace, we have the sealed unit that has the argon and then we have one inch of dead airspace with that with that third pain that that that snaps into place with the bulb weather seal.
The other thing we do is on my my house specifically bedrooms and bathrooms all have blinds between that glass.
And in the last seven years they have been working great. I've never had to clean them. They don't get dusty and they're there for privacy.
So really that the fellow lifestyle three's triple pain is really a nice product. I have it in my house.
And then we have other triple pain options as well. So there are there are things to discuss. That's why that one on one appointment is so so important.
Yeah, lots of different options. When we come back, I want to talk about the realtors home and garden show that's coming up.
Siding unlimited on with us this hour eight five five six one six one six twenty if you have questions for Eric Brown or check them out. Siding unlimited dot com. It is the fix it show.
And fix it. We can help. It's the fix it show on WDMJ.
Thank you for joining us date and came to David nason with you. It's going to be a decent day today.
When's dying down a little bit of high of 36 good for the 58th annual Shamrock club of Wisconsin St Patrick's Day parade that kicks off at noon today.
Eric Brown's been on with us this hour. We are going to be out at the 100th annual realtors home and garden show.
It's coming weekend. Yes. Wow kicks off this weekend. Right Eric?
Yeah, we'll be down there. Siding unlimited will have a display our sister company outdoor living unlimited.
So if you want a decks outdoor kitchens screen rooms all of that stuff outdoor living unlimited dot com or outdoor living unlimited Instagram again with a bunch of ideas drone footage videos all that stuff.
But both companies will have each they'll both have their own rather large display that you can come in and touch feel operate use talk to us.
So to look at the sighting the windows the roofing we have all the doors we have all of our we have everything that we pretty much every all a lot of products pretty much all everything that we do.
Siding windows roofing and doors all represented there in a display.
Honestly, what do we what do we have about eight 10 11 11 windows on display 11 different windows and an entry door.
Yeah, it's a it's a great booth. We it's very easy to talk to people about what we do because that we I don't know how you guys do it. You bring everything like it.
If somebody has a question on it, we can point them to the stone and show them about that. We can point them to a window. We can point them to a door roof.
I mean, you guys it's a great booth. It really is a good.
Well, and in our window display. So so the the styles that that are coming through right now is everybody wants to pick colors. Everybody wants a stylish color.
And the style now is is black like that's the style. That's that's popular. White is always like classic like that. It's just a clean look. Black is now the popular thing.
So you have the tradition of white the classic look of a clean window white. And then you have now the contemporary new style right now what's in in that's black and we have we have both of those on display.
We have a cool. I think it's worth seeing and it's in our showroom and it'll be on display at the home show.
It's a true. It's a wood window with a black stain and the black looks sharp already. But when you have it stained on on the wood and you can see the grain in the black stain.
The grain of the wind of the wood. It really looks sharp. It really looks like a classy high end window. I love it. I love that look.
We do have it in our showroom. But if you're down at the show come take a look. We have it at the show at the show next week as well.
March 23 the 29th that's going on at the Wisconsin Expo Center at the Wisconsin State Fair Park right there on Greenfield Avenue. So make sure you check that out. Hopefully the weather's a little nicer so people can get out of their house and safely and get down there. So I'll be there too.
The hundredth annual there's 350 exhibitors. So it's worth going to. It's worth going to this year. We're going to take our final break. One segment left with Eric Brown siding unlimited.com the website. It is the fix it show on WTM J.
Making it a great fix today. It's the fix it show on WTM J.
Sponsored each week by J&B construction and citing unlimited Eric Brown from citing unlimited has been on with us this hour. We did get a text. It says good morning. We have a house full of sunrise windows picture casement double hung. They were installed in northern Wisconsin out of citing unlimited service area about 15 years ago.
We love the products can attest to the sunrise window warranty. So thank you, Mark and Tosa for texting that in and there's a good little testament for sunrise windows which we talked about Eric.
But let's talk about the team a little bit since we're about to wrap it up here. You got the good products, but you need the team to put them in.
Yeah, and I think yeah, we have we and we have the guys, you know, we have great. We have a great team. Our offices fantastic. Our sales team is absolutely fantastic, but our install our install team, our carpenters.
I'll put them up against anybody. I think we're second to none and not just not just the level of ability to install product, but our ability to communicate with homeowners.
I think people appreciate that so much and so well. And that these guys are guys go to work every day at somebody's house. And you know, it's important for us to for everybody to feel really good about their jobs. We have we have really good talent, but we have really good guys that show up to your house.
Excited to be at work and that just comes out in their work. It comes out on our customers house. And my best story I can tell you is to a test to that is how often homeowners leave out in the summertime, leave out a cooler of water and soda for for our guys every morning.
You know, say here you go. Here's ice ice and water and stuff like that. We had one lady at 10 a.m. for the whole week that the guys were at the job at 10 a.m. every day. She brought him out hot cocoa because it was chilly. This is a few weeks ago.
And she brought him out hot hot cocoa every day at 10 a.m. at 10 o'clock. And at the end of the job. The last day on the job. She had a lasagna lunch for him. And that's that's not a unique story for us.
Did she need a home inspection? I'm going to sketch it over lunch. I will refer you.
But but that's that's not a normal like that's not a unique story that that is normal for us that we get a lot of that. I can tell you that at the end of a job everybody's happy with the guys that we're in their house.
To find guys who can do the work but then are also personable. Isn't easy. And I think you're right. It goes to the culture of the company. Everybody's happy because we have a great company that works well together from the office staff to everybody involved.
Yeah, no, it's like I said earlier in this hour. I mean warranties and stuff like that. I mean, that's why that's what backs our warranty that what that's what backs our install is such a strong team. I said, this is the best time.
This is the best sighting of unlimited ever been over 32 years. And we keep moving forward stronger. That's that's no lie. That's no joke. This is this is a really good time to work with us just because of that.
Those are the stories we have in their in their legit. So it's it's it's fun. It's rewarding. And and and we're doing a lot of good things. That's for sure.
Definitely. So if somebody's interested in getting in touch. How long before somebody's out there? What are we looking at for getting things done?
Yeah, so getting in touch with us two six two five six seven 45 13. That's our that's our office line.
Like I said earlier, go on go on our website. We're not we're not difficult to find where everywhere.
If you call in what we try to get a hold of you within within 24 hours to to set up that free estimate to set up that free appointment coming into the spring. Now we get busy. We get busy pretty quick.
