Are you ready sir Tom I am ready.
Hello everyone welcome back to the full experience this is a show that watches but for episodes of any given television shows run to see if we can get the entire
flavor of the entire run and speak intelligently as if we had seen the entire thing we watch the first the ultimate the lowest and the last we are in the midst of watching Mr.
show on to the ultimate episode this is the one that is rated the highest by users of IMDB season for episode for the story of Everest which first aired November 16th 1998 I'm Tom merit that man is Brian
that's the best dress would yeah man so let's start with the thing that we hinted at in the main show boil boy can you feel the difference in energy all
away from the set dressing of whatever that venue is that they're in everything is a lot more polished a lot more slick the host
synergy is so much more confident the as they pointed out in the emails the audience clearly knows what they're in for they know what jokes are going to be made
in their prime for this is the fourth season so they've at least seen a couple of them by now yeah interestingly look there's two all star sketch actually three
three all star sketches palies is an all star sketch in my book that that's the the whole joke is good they're doing a riff on good
fellas but they sneak in there edited for television and so long before we had the example of the big Lebowski with Walter so
check saying this is what happens Larry this is what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps that before that was the
canonical example of of edits then palies rift on it really well whereas just like oh get out of here your mother
sister brother Chinese dentist and then right down to giving you the fist comes out to give the middle finger but then instead
there's a thumbs up that's put over it that's a great one the story of Everest is a great shaggy dog story of
of it's the got your nose again and again well only it's the thimble's crashing everywhere and the arms race where they have
grocery store chains where it becomes political attack ads between the two three solid hits and a couple
of fine other ones in there yeah I wrote in my notes I'm not sure about the Larry cleast sketch that
would that would and by that I mean I'm not really sure because today I think some people might see it as a legal
proposal of like ah this is how it should work here we go so yeah that one by the way so the joke for
anybody who's not watching it is is many many prisoners can be cost effective released into society as
long as they're monitored and kept you know as the public is protected from them so they have Larry cleast
a rapist and so he's walking around its bubble and Kirk and he's federally mandated to always mention that
sometimes so he's trying to do cold calls as an insurance salesman and it starts off you know because
rapist such an awful topic that it it was not funny in 2026 years Brian in a way that maybe 30
years ago it was more less of a real idea and or to a younger Brian but but the way he's
just like hello I'm trying to sell insurance don't hang up okay good I'm a rapist and and then
they get you one two three times but the what the Bob Odin Kirk's delivery on that think what you will
about the concept the delivery itself was perfect Larry is the name you are trying to minimize a thing
you are legally required to say that is going to turn people off that is how you would do it yeah that
that one is crazy did you notice the cell phone in the stakes catch no I didn't they pulled that he's
like I'm going to call them police and he pulls out this brick of a cell phone I'm like oh this is
supposed to indicate that these are rich jerks because they have a cell phone at the table in 1998
it isn't like the huge brick thing it's it's it's it's it's but it's certainly not the flip
things that we came to know even five years later yeah I thought the political attack
ads of the grocery store was executed superbly I could price is no rats and unlike
the ever sketch was the weakest one of the bunch the which one the Everest sketch okay so the
sketch I mentally had my arms crossed on and not the least of which reasons is Jay Johnston the
the the big tall guy from Mr. Show plays for comedic effect it changes I don't know why it changes
things but all I could think of is that dude got pardoned by Donald Trump for his participation
in January 6th like like I wasn't thinking I wasn't thinking about that at all so that that
affected I still just didn't think it was that funny I thought it was very funny the
moment I realized like oh we're going to go one two three and then what sells it is Bob
Odin Kirk's hard turn where he's like oh but like Bob Odin Kirk has this yellow voice this
foe angry shouting thing that that was the delightful surprise and is probably my familiarity
with with Bob lapsing into that bit that did it for me but when he turns hard and then also they
do just one too many laps on it to where it gets unfunny and then funny again for me I you know
I like that bit we've talked about that kind of bit a lot lately for whatever reason of like
first it's funny then it's just tedious and then they repeat it and it gets funny again the
the call up the chain from the first episode was like that I for whatever reason this
would didn't work for me maybe it was just my mood that day or I needed a better lunch or
something but I I wore out on it with this one but overall yes smoother transitions more
confident cast like a bold bolder direction I get why this is considered the best episode
of Mr show.
Yeah I I got it now this is the unfair thing I'm like this is the best and of course only
three but that's 80% of the show are really good all stars and the rest are all spread out
everywhere else yeah yeah that that's hard with the sketch show right is your best episodes
going to be the one with the not the highest number of good sketches but you might not have the
best sketch that that is a weakness that we are probing here I think that's yeah I think
if you are doing the full experience then what this unlocks for you is in that imaginary
cocktail party where you're faking it because you did the full experience then you definitely
get to say whoa man seeing them they got real good over those four years and you feel it
in this episode.
And you could even see that Bob Oden Kirk yell right like even back then stuff like that
where it's going to fail with a sketch show is people are going to say did you see ex sketch
which was not in the four episodes were watching yeah and then you're going to have to either
fake it or admit no I didn't see all the episodes yeah but you're certainly getting the
flavor of it I get that now next time we are going to jump back to season one to the third
episode not the second episode the third episode for the lowest rated episode of Mr. show
we regret to inform you.
I don't know that that pilot was pretty rough on the pacing but then again Amos loved it but
I watched this one twice and I'll be danged if it doesn't matter if you're distracted it's
great.
The pacing is great.
Yeah.
The bits are simple but fun to watch lyrically executed.
Sometimes pilots get a forgiveness rating I think on IMDB for being like oh I love this
show and this was the first one and so maybe the third one won't be worse than the first
one but because it wasn't the first one it gave it a distance.
Interesting.
Yeah.
We'll have to see.
Yeah.
Well that is where we're going next folks if you want to watch along with us Mr. show is
available on HBO Max it is an old HBO show I don't know if that's why that sometimes those
old HBO shows they don't have the rights to in the show up somewhere else but Mr. show is
on HBO Max and if you want to watch with us watch we regret to inform you that season one
episode three.
You get our episodes of the full experience earlier if you're a patron so if you're
not already a patron become one right now right now do it Brian and I are going to
wait.
