April 1st, the haunting truth. Have you ever tried to live a lie? If you have you know this is the worst place to be. If you have any kind of a conscience, you're never in peace. The truth follows you and hangs over your shoulder, staring you in the face. You can't get rid of it as beautiful and freeing as the truth is. When we choose to ignore it, it becomes a fearful, even dreadful thing. Today we'll hear from someone who can tell us even more about this. Here's Craig Snoke to share with us his true story on this unshackled, daily devotional. Not every drug addict comes from a broken home. My parents loved us kids and they love the Lord too. But I rebelled in junior high when we moved to a different state and I wanted to be popular. My folks wouldn't let me have long hair so I started smoking and drinking, lying and listening to hard rock music. My younger brother gave his life to Christ and I saw him change overnight. I went forward when he
did but I wasn't serious so I got even worse. After graduation I moved out and was soon doing drugs. The police came to my door every week. I couldn't seem to get high enough long enough and tried every kind of drug. When I had no money for dope I sniffed chemicals around the house. My parents wept over me. My brother prayed for me. Even my friends wore me. A hundred times I tried to quit drugs but couldn't. I would pick up hitchhikers in my car and tell them about the Jesus I knew as a kid but I wouldn't follow myself. Not even after I overdosed on acid and promised God I'd quit if he spared me. Not even after a close call with death from some drugged out hippies. One night my brother took me to see a movie at church. I was high but God drew me to him and I went forward and prayed with the pastor. When I gave my life to Christ I meant it and he changed my life just as he had my brothers. I enrolled in Bible College, graduated and now pastor a church in South Carolina with a beautiful wife and two daughters at my side. Hebrews chapter 10 verses 26 and 27 says,
for if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth. There remaineth no more sacrifice for sins but a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation which shall devour the adversaries. Friend, the truth is a dangerous thing. If we learn the truth and then choose not to follow it we are without excuse and this is agonizing. So my I suggest if areas of your life are in turmoil we look over your shoulder. See if there is any biblical truth you are trying to ignore you will never have rest until you do. Will you receive this truth today?
