You are a Lockdown Jaguar, your daily Jacksonville Jaguars podcast, part of the Lockdown Podcast
1:03
Network, your team every day.
1:09
Show team every day here on Lockdown Jaguar, man, we thank you for making us your first
1:12
lesson here on the bonus show.
1:14
Let me tell you what we got for you today.
1:16
The possible expendables in the second half of the show, and we'll start the show by
1:22
talking about, show me what you got for year two, all right, two, two players.
1:30
Show me what you got.
1:33
This is a show me what you got year for two players.
1:35
So here's what we mean by that.
1:36
Last year at this point, Parker Washington and Antonio Johnson, people were like, okay,
1:40
well, what's their role moving forward?
1:43
The Jaguars drafted two safety, signed Eric Murray, okay, what's that saying about Antonio
1:49
Well, Antonio Johnson's probably going to start for the Jaguars and maybe even get a
1:54
He was one of the players that was mentioned for a potential contract extension.
1:57
Another is Parker Washington.
1:59
After them adding down, he drowned, drafting, Travis Hunter, having Brian Thomas, junior
2:06
on the roster, you sat there and you went, hmm, what's up with Parker Washington?
2:12
What does that mean?
2:13
Well, he ended up leading the Jaguars and receiving us.
2:17
Because of injury, because of guys just having slumped.
2:20
And then because of Parker Washington making them say, no, you got to play me, dude.
2:25
And then there's prowess from special teams, all of those things.
2:28
And now he's up for the multi million dollar contract extension.
2:31
And then the Jaguars also went out and got your coping Myers.
2:35
So they've shown you whatever we got to do, that's what we're going to do.
2:39
Are there players this year that have a chance to show the Jaguars that they're a part
2:42
of their future as well?
2:44
You absolutely right there are.
2:45
And I'm going to tell you who those players are right now.
2:49
It's really three, okay?
2:52
There are two guys in particular.
2:54
I'm going to put them as one or I can just list all three of them.
2:59
But I just couldn't decide who, so I'll tell you the one guy that's going to be on
3:03
interest regardless.
3:04
And that's Wyatt Mila.
3:05
It's not make or break for Wyatt Mila.
3:08
That's not what I'm saying.
3:09
What I am telling you is, it is now, this is year two.
3:14
They need to see a big enough step to know that he's the right or left guard of the future.
3:21
Because this year with the tournament, what they do moving forward after this, do they,
3:26
because I guarantee you the Jaguars, when I look at the depth chart, they're probably
3:28
going to take another offensive line.
3:30
I used to have these conversations with EVP Tony Becele.
3:33
I used to talk to him a lot before the games.
3:36
And I always say, man, I've been trying to tell these people, why don't they invest
3:39
more in the offensive line?
3:41
I say, draft two guys this year, one guy to next, two guys that year, one guy to next.
3:44
That way, over four year period, you drafted six people.
3:50
And you can still sign guys in three ages to two.
3:52
You draft six people.
3:55
If four of them hit, that means you get an offensive line in every year by average.
4:00
That's how you keep them.
4:01
Green Bay has done a real good job of that kind of stuff.
4:03
And it hasn't always been first pick, first round picks.
4:06
They've done a real good job.
4:07
Philly has done a real good job as that as well.
4:10
They're teams that seem like they know Dallas to be honest with you.
4:13
There are always these teams that never seem like they need an offensive line.
4:17
And then there are teams like the Bengals and in the past Jacksonville that always seem
4:22
like the Titans, that always seem like the day in a dollar short when it comes to getting
4:27
lime in that complaint.
4:28
Cleveland had to go sign three or four veterans that they didn't have anybody on the offensive
4:32
line blocking for in the last year.
4:34
That was worth anything.
4:35
It's a shout out to JC Treter, but he was falling apart from what I understand.
4:39
So the Ravens were hurting on the interior.
4:41
So teams, you find these teams.
4:44
I'm telling you man, the offensive line will make a team look terrible if they're not
4:49
So Wyatt Milam is the third round pick, day two pick that the Jaguars got.
4:55
And this year's going to be, if he has to take a big step, he should be trying to push
5:00
out one of those old guys.
5:02
Wyatt Milam should be this year, the dude that the Jaguars are holding back the way you
5:07
can see dog trainers, whole back protection dogs when they got him fired up.
5:14
Wyatt Milam needs to have all of his teach on to show and prove that he's going to be that
5:18
dude because of a year of development.
5:20
He's going to spring up and challenge some all pro and pro bowl years at some point.
5:26
If they don't see it this year, they already might be going to draft an interior guy if
5:32
it's killing Rutledge.
5:33
But then, you know, you can play guard at left or right card.
5:36
So if they don't see it this year from Wyatt Milam, then they absolutely will be trying
5:42
to go get that great player because every offensive line coach, every player who's ever
5:46
played offensive line, every GM, every day, they at some point want dominance, right?
5:54
They at some point want their version of Quentin Nelson.
5:59
They at some point want their version of that dude that everyone points to and goes, there
6:05
He's going number one.
6:06
He's going one on one with all pro this game and we're going to leave him over there because
6:10
we're going to live and die with the consequences.
6:12
At some point, you have to find that.
6:14
If Milam is just another Ezra Cleveland, that's good.
6:19
He'll start for seven, eight years, but they're going to try to find that great player.
6:24
You can either draft them or you can develop them.
6:29
In my opinion, that's what they're going to try to see for Milam this year.
6:35
The other name on that list and it's two of them.
6:39
Yassir Abdul is one.
6:40
I'm a big Yassir Abdul of fan, I am.
6:44
And what I like about him is last year they went and got Dennis Gardek and you didn't see
6:49
You saw him going special teams and make some bone jar and tackles on special teams.
6:54
And coaches love that kind of stuff because it's like, this is what I talked about earlier
6:59
Even though we went out and got some competition, we got a guy that maybe stole some of your
7:04
minutes and you've done everything you're supposed to do.
7:07
You still came to work every day with the work ethic, conditioning, played special teams
7:13
and even made some plays in 11 and 11 on defense and proved your value.
7:17
So Yassir Abdul is one of those dudes.
7:19
Is he going to take that next step?
7:21
Him and Jalen McLeod are going to be there in that Dennis Gardek role.
7:25
Gardek has a one-year deal.
7:27
This is where you allow Gardek after this year to move on at 32 years old and you make
7:32
a decision about Yassir Abdul as a core special teams player and Sam Lymebacker.
7:38
The other guy is Jack Kaiser, who's listed as a Sam Lymebacker, but he's the different type
7:43
He's a Sam in a pure 4-3 that's going to play out in space and he's going to play off
7:47
He also can play 4-2-5 and give you will and nickel.
7:49
He's a little bit different from Yassir, but ventral Miller looks like the dude is going
7:54
to get the chance to stay next to Foyola who come early in the season.
7:59
Jack Kaiser has to show them that he can either be a good 3rd Lymebacker or a dude to replace
8:05
Miller who is in a last year of his contract or potentially be the long-term replacement
8:11
for Foyola who is as good as he is.
8:13
He is getting a little bit older.
8:14
So I think these are critical years for both of them to do a Parker Washington and Antonio
8:19
Johnson did make themselves non-expendable members of this team.
8:24
He's moving forward.
8:25
Who are the possible expendables though like if they come out of the draft with players
8:31
at their respective positions that they can't hold back?
8:34
Who are some of the dudes that they could possibly look to move for future draft capital
8:39
and some relief from the salary cap I'll tell you who in just a second unlocked on
8:43
All right, today's show is brought to you and sponsored by Better Health.
8:51
Financial stress is something a lot of people are carrying right now, man.
8:54
It's not just about numbers, it can affect your sleep, your relationships, and your
8:58
overall mental health in ways that build up over time.
9:02
And the reality is struggling with money doesn't mean you failed.
9:05
Sometimes it's just means you haven't had the right kind of support.
9:10
It's something I've thought about and I've actually lived through it.
9:15
I've made these some money, but the prospect of continuing to do that along with some
9:21
health challenges I have really did cause me to go into a state of depression where I
9:25
had to go and seek therapy for better health.
9:28
And it's easy to put a lot of pressure on yourself without really talking about it.
9:32
That lack of sleep is something else, man, a sleep deprivation can really get to you.
9:36
Therapy isn't about financial advice.
9:38
It's about working through the stress, the anxiety and emotions that come with it.
9:42
With over 30,000 licensed therapists and more than 6 million people serve, Better Health

10:38
Possible expendables, possible players that if the Jaguars go in to the draft with all
10:42
of those picks and it works out a certain way, and then they get in many camping, they
10:46
see the players in the building and then they go out to training camp and they have one
10:50
or two guys that they just cannot keep off the field, and they're like, man, look.
10:54
Remember James Robinson and Camp?
10:58
And they weren't even scrimmaging.
10:59
They were just looking at tape because this was doing COVID.
11:01
They saw James Robinson and Camp.
11:03
And I think Chris Thompson running back said, he's our best runner back.
11:08
In this new system, we were running because he's so instinctive with his cuts.
11:11
James Robinson came out and they traded at Leonard Fordnet.
11:14
You didn't see that coming.
11:15
Fordnet went and won a championship and won a Super Bowl with Tampa, but James Robinson
11:19
went over 1,000 yards.
11:21
It was short live, though, because they moved on from him the first chance they got when
11:25
every mile came in here.
11:27
And he had an injury.
11:28
And James never really been the same, but you get the point.
11:31
What happened was they saw something in training camp and they were like, oh, yeah.
11:34
We can move on from where they were.
11:38
He wouldn't have better played on it or for that, but at the time where they were and what
11:42
they wanted, he was more instinctive and they felt like he wasn't going to make a whole
11:46
bunch of noise if they weren't a good team, which they were not a good team that year.
11:49
So they made moves who can be those guys?
11:56
Who are the expendables?
11:57
Well, obviously, if they go into the draft and someone falls to them, I did mention that
12:01
Caleb LeMue, if he falls to the end of the first round, that's a way for them to get
12:06
great on the offensive line.
12:08
Dylan Rutledge is another one.
12:10
If they decide that they want to go get something that they can't get at 56 and that they'll
12:16
never be in a position to get again.
12:18
And the reason why I say that about this offensive line class because it is absolutely deep
12:22
in terms of the early guys, the day one, first half of day two, there are both low to offensive
12:32
There may be eight of these guys that end up going in the top 50, right?
12:36
There may be even more than that, according to some people.
12:39
And if you're a jaguars and you say, we ain't normally in position to get one because even
12:43
if next year they hold onto their first round pick, and let's just say it's 26 or 32nd
12:48
if they win the Super Bowl.
12:50
I don't know if the offensive line, they'll always be good offensive lineman in a draft.
12:54
There'll be somebody, but I don't know if the offensive line next year is good enough
12:57
that you can say we can get a dude right there that we know as a sure fire, great player.
13:04
You have to draft offensive lineman, you have to either get lucky, like the chief did
13:10
It was their scouting, but it was fortunate that they were right about Creed Humphrey, who's
13:17
This is what I mean.
13:18
The likelihood that you're going to get to do like that there at that spot is hard unless
13:24
he has some sort of deficiency, like his arms aren't long enough for, he's a tackle
13:29
and he's only six, three and seven, eights and not six, four and a half, but to take him
13:33
in, he ends up being a great player and everybody else regrets it.
13:36
Well, the jack watch can definitely do something like that because they're a super power
13:41
But walk a little if they get a tackle can be expendable along with Pat McCarrie if they
13:48
get a guard because of their number.
13:51
You can even, even with McCarrie, you can keep him because he's played everything, but
13:56
you can rearrange some things and have him as your swing guy and get some compensation
14:02
from a team that's thirsty for a tackle with walk a little.
14:06
If you get a tackle that falls to you or you decide to trade up for one, go up and get
14:11
a tackle, allow him to be your swing tackle for a year or move cove and land in the right
14:18
See, I just did it.
14:19
This is how you do it.
14:20
This is how you eventually get good, how you eventually get great at the offensive line
14:25
You tap in as we get closer and closer to the draft to lock, throw in Jaguar's with
14:28
your team every day, man.
14:29
We're always here for you.
14:31
Without us, without you, there's no us.
14:33
Let me correct that.
14:34
Maybe without us, there's no you too.
14:36
Either way, it works.
