The Jury Duty Scam Taking Millions

Hour 3 (9.04) Courts across California are warning people about a jury duty scam that now comes with a fake arrest warrant attached. Plus, two men pulled alive from a Nepal tunnel nine days after the floods. 

8:05 — USC hosts Fresno State tonight. Then the jury duty scam that's cleaning people out: a caller says you missed jury service and there's a warrant out, then texts or emails an official-looking arrest warrant with a dollar figure on it. They may claim to be a US Marshal or a local officer; they may have your name and address, and caller's ID can be spoofed to show a real courthouse number. The FTC put out an alert on it in June. Riverside Superior Court issued its own warning last month. The rule to remember courts never demand payment over the phone, and no government agency asks for a payment app, crypto, gift cards, or a wire. A real summon comes in the mail. 8:50 — Rescuers in Nepal pulled two men alive out of a hydropower tunnel Friday, nine days after floods killed more than 1,200 people. Search teams heard voices that morning and dug them out of the Trishuli 3A site in Rasuwa district — a mechanical foreman and a mechanical supervisor, one in critical condition. One of them told rescuers there are more people living down there. Roughly 115 are believed to be trapped in that tunnel alone, and about 900 workers are missing across a dozen hydropower projects. Plus, the Chino man fined for growing food in his front yard — in a city whose motto is "Where Everything Grows." Conway is built for Cornhole.
