Hi, this is Pablo Torei from Pablo Torei finds out and today I want to talk to you about
Boost Mobile because we spent a lot of time analyzing inefficiencies in sports, over
value contracts, money tied up in the wrong places and so on, but those inefficiencies
aren't just on a roster.
Sometimes they're in your own monthly expenses.
Boost Mobile says switching to their $25 unlimited forever plan can unlock up to $600 in savings
a year.
That's $25 a month for unlimited data, talk, and text when you bring your own phone.
If that money is trapped in a pricey phone bill, it might be worth a second look.

I'm good, I'd be better if I could use my eyes to see, but a last eye doctor, so there's
no vision right now.
How are you?
There's nothing serious, right?
You're just getting some kind of checkup or something?
Yeah, like I haven't been to the eye doctor in three years, which is not good for somebody
wears glasses and watches a lot of hockey.
She had to do a whole lot of checking and I was like, hey, could we not do this?
I have to go on with low time.
She goes, we're doing it, all right?
There you go.
You're all set.
You just got to wait a little while for everything to get better and the sliver of daylight
to come in and you'll be fine.
Let's start here with, because I think it's a big story, which set of wingers, New
chime in or pod calls and Savoy, is a better fit for Conor McDavid.
Man, that is, you know what?
It's a tough one, but I'll say this, extremely positive that we get to have this conversation
because the last two seasons, our conversation has revolved around, well, who's wingers,
like who do you give the bad set of wingers to because either Leon or Connor has to have
them?
Now you have two sets of good wingers and they each get wingers when they're healthy and
I think that's great.
I would personally put pod calls and Savoy with McDavid and the reason I would do that is
pod calls and have a lot of the puck retrieval skills that Zach Hyman has.
He doesn't have quite the hands that Zach Hyman does in front of the net of the finishing
capability.
And I think that Zach Hyman, when dry slide will list back, would benefit from the elite
passing and that could probably be a line that really outscores their opponents.
And as it pertains to McDavid, with pod calls and he's a guy that can go and retrieve the
puck and get it to McDavid in areas and McDavid doesn't need all that long to make defenders
look so silly.
And then you add Matthew Savoy in there.
I think Matthew Savoy is the smartest winger that the Edmonton Oilers have on their entire
roster.
And he also has some really good speed and to play with Conor McDavid, you need both
of those things.
And I think if you can have a scenario where you've got a really young player that have
got some chemistry with Conor McDavid of all people on a contract that is less than
zero basically, you have a chance to extract some stupendous value out of both of those
contracts.
And if you can get pod calls in and Savoy performing like four or five million dollar players
playing next economy, David, and they're making not four and five million dollars, you are
laughing because that now gives you two lines that you can throw out and go, all right,
defend this.
Yes, true.
Do you think there's any like McDavid is a very sincere person in interviews, but he
scores his four hundredth goal and he says, you know, goals don't come easily for me.
He's not trolling us, right?
He believes that.
He does believe that.
I mean, for as long as I can remember watching Conor McDavid, which has been since he was
about nine, maybe even earlier, he's never been a goals guy.
He's never been that, that player.
He's always been the facilitator.
He's never been the guy that's been a shoot first mentality and it's still, it's not ingrained
in him.
He's been a very unselfish player since probably before anybody even knew who he was.
And so when he says goal scoring doesn't come natural, I mean, yes, he has four hundred
goals and we may all say that that's crazy for him to say that, but look at his assist
totals.
Yeah.
Like they're not even in the same stratosphere.
And so when maybe for him, so if we take a percentage of his points that are goals versus
assists, yeah, I think you can say he's not a shoot first player, but we're talking about
one of the greatest players to ever put skate on like it's, you have to measure it appropriately.
And so yeah, when you compare him to your average NHL or yes, goal scoring comes easily.
When you compare him to Alexander Ovechkin, goal scoring does not come easy.
When you look at this team, I always talk about ceiling and floor and they're so wide
for a team that's a legit contender, but the the floor we saw against the Florida teams
Panthers and lighting and then the ceiling, everything since it feels to me like I could
make the case that no, even if they got out of the West, they would be doomed just because
the East has stronger quality team is that a, is that a credible argument to make?
I genuinely believe and I would say this probably outside of if Colorado finds their game
this probably doesn't apply to them, but I genuinely believe that the team that comes
out of the West is probably and if it's out of the Pacific specifically because like he has
said, it's a pillow fight at this point. Their first two rounds are going to be a joke.
Whoever comes out of the West actually might have an advantage in the cup final and I say
that because the East is going to be an absolute war and I am not sure that whatever team comes
out of the East isn't going to be completely broken and injured versus the West where I mean,
you look at the Pacific division like there are probably 12 teams in the East that would
take down every single team in the Pacific division in the playoffs series and so I look
at the Pacific and I go if the Oilers can get out of the first two rounds relatively
unscathed and let's say it's pretty short and they don't have a ton of injuries. I mean,
they're probably going to be the team from an attrition standpoint that's in the best
possible stance and then they're playing against the team in the conference final who's
coming out of the central, which is also going to be a complete and utter war that's probably
going to be broken to a degree and so there's match up advantage there and so I think really
the only advantage that a Western team is going to have over the East is that the East
is going to be a complete nightmare to get through this year.
That's fair. Rachel Christchurch, our guest from metalletics. On his fans are raving about
the nurse Murphy pairing. The five on five outscoring isn't great to two goals for five
against, although they're at 48% expected goals at five on five. Is this the eye test lying
to us or is there something real here and they're just unlucky?

I think it's a bit of both. I think that Conor Murphy certainly has stableed Darnel
Nurse. He's fully like Darnel looks a little bit more confident. He looks like the errors
are not as catastrophic, and I think part of that is Conor Murphy is a very good defender,
and he can mask some of those errors. Now, you're not necessarily getting the goal-tending
to do the rest of that masking. Do I think that that's a second pair on a Stanley Cup
winning team? No, I do not. Do I think it's a third pair on a Stanley Cup winning team?
Yes, absolutely. I think that they're good enough to play secondary matchups, for sure.
The young lucky thing I don't necessarily buy into, because every single player on the
admission alert is getting the same goal-tending right now, you have to find a way to tilt
the ice when you're on the ice. Certainly, the penalty kill looks a lot better with Conor
Murphy. From an eye test perspective, that has improved the leaps and bounds in terms
of the quality of chances that they seem to be giving up in terms of the passes across
the ice, that they are no longer allowing. The loss of net front battle is not nearly
as often as it used to be, and so I look at that, and I say, okay, like that is absolutely
an improvement, but I would say be very cautious in the evaluation, because they are one
goalie bad game away from being a dash four. So, this is the big story, and I'm going
to ask you three questions about it, but I want to start with this. Have you ever seen
a team as ruthless as Vegas Golden Knights in any sport?
In any sport, yes, for sure. European soccer is my first love, and F1 racing is also incredibly
ruthless, but I would say European soccer. When we're talking about the big boys, we're
talking about Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Liverpool, these types of teams.
You can win, to give you an example, Bayern Munich won a championship. They won the equivalent
of the president's trophy, but they didn't win the Champions League. They went out in
the equivalent of the conference finals, and fired not only their coach, but their sporting
director. So, yes, I have seen that the success that is expected in European soccer is slightly
psychotic, especially for the big teams. And then I would say in hockey, like the last time
I remember a team being this ruthless, was Boulou and Morello New Jersey.
That was really the last time. We haven't really seen it in hockey. You don't really see
it in baseball. I would have thought the equivalent would have been firing Aaron Boone in New
York, I would say, or even better, if the Jays had said, John Schneider, you're not coming
back after losing in game seven of the World Series, that would have been a little extreme,
I would say. But no, I think that Vegas is very ruthless, and yes, it can be successful,
but you also need to have a balance. Can John Tortorello do enough in a short period
to make a difference? Yes, I think he can. So, Bruce Cassidy's system is one of the best
from a structure standpoint. It's one of the best systems of the last 10 years, I would
say. And John Tortorello is a great coach, and where John Tortorello gets a bad rap is
people think that he's a mean guy because he's gruff in the media and players don't want
to play for him. I have not heard a single player say that they don't enjoy playing for
torts. This guy will let you come at him, and if you convince him, he'll go with it.
He will give you the chance. So, the thing with torts is if you're in the doghouse, you're
not there permanently. He gives you the chance to earn your way out. So, what I think is
going to happen here is if they keep Cassidy's system, and they should, and you get a guy
like torts who can motivate guys, you get that new coach bump, and your goal tenders play above
an 870 save percentage, which they haven't gotten since the Olympic break, then yeah, I do think
that the Vegas is going to benefit from this because we all know what a new coach bump can do,
and their systems are already good. It wasn't like Cassidy got fired because he had a bad system,
and if their goal-leaves can make literally one more save a game, they'll be just fine.
Rachel Kricack, our guest from Betelitic's final one. If I said to you, Bruce Cassidy
is going to be the next head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs, would you be surprised?
Surprise? No. Happy. Also, no. I look at this, and I go, I obviously pay close attention
to the Toronto Maple Leafs. I'm really second-tired of watching that team hire people in a backwards
direction. They hired Mike Batcock, and then they made Kyle Dubas the GM, and that didn't go well.
Then they finally got Sheldon Kiefen, and when Kyle Dubas and Sheldon Kief were in lockstep,
things are going really well. Then they had Brad Tree Living, and Sheldon Kief was still there,
and they weren't on the same page. Then they brought in Craig Baroube, and they're still
somehow not on the same page. As far as I'm concerned, what needs to happen in Toronto is if they
decide they want to fire Brad Tree Living, they need to hire a GM, and you need to let the GM
hire the coach. You can't do coach and then GM, because what happens if the guy you hire for GM
is not in line with the guy you just hired to be your coach? It just does not make sense to me.
So I'm not against Bruce Cassidy being the Leafs coach, but it better be because the new GM,
they bring in says Bruce Cassidy should be the coach, not because somebody at Rogers decides,
I think Bruce Cassidy should be the coach, and I'll worry about hiring a president and a GM later.
That's good point. All right, Rachel. Thank you. Appreciate it.
