It starts with something small.
Twice in the same day, he walks into completely different places and is hit with a smell that instantly takes him back to a very specific time in his life—his college days, working in the theater department.
At first, it just feels like one of those strange memory triggers. But when it happens again, in a completely different setting, it’s enough to make him pause.
That’s when he says it out loud—something connected to that time in his life is about to come up.
He doesn’t know what. He doesn’t know how. But he feels it.
Later that night, sitting in a crowded restaurant, he gets his answer.
And it’s not just a coincidence—it’s someone from that exact chapter of his life, showing up in a way he wasn’t expecting.

Uh, Tony and Todd, we've been speaking of familiar smells. I, um, I have four dogs.
Okay. And I swear I could probably do a game of name that dog by its
breath. Uh, I really good. Uh, because today I have buddy and bear in this studio with me.
Bear's almost always with me because he likes to hang out over here. And I'd like to keep him
away from carpet because he does something called sneaky peeing. And, um, but if he's,
he's in here and he's being by me and he knows he's being watched. He won't do it. He's,
I've been trying to break this of this dog for eight years. And I just kind of given up.
Other than I let him out a lot and don't put him on carpet where he can go do it.
But he is breath. Oh my goodness. That's a dog where, I mean, all the dogs have, you know,
kind of dog breath. Uh, but he, he's sitting over here by me. And earlier today,
this kind of comes up. He's just short dog, uh, which is a little paused on the side of my
chair. He's staring at me right now and just, and I was like, what is that?
He's looking at me like right now. Like, are you serious? Did you just say that?
I did any wings. He winked at me. Uh, but yeah, I mean, smells are an interesting thing with
ghosts. I, I think I've experienced that more than I've experienced, um, actual, um, like,
I guess visual phenomena. You, I have not had a lot of experiences. Now I have with the dog thing.
In fact, my current dog has, uh, some nasty breath. I finally found something that worked for that.
But when it comes to like paranormal stuff, I've really never had, I mean, I've got in the
occasional, that's a cigar. That's a, you know, a pipe tobacco in a smile or something like that.
But nothing that stood out where it like, it could be something or even for me personally,
like never something for my past, like my mom's perfume or my, my dad's pipe or whatever,
like that's never happened to me. So, uh, that's one part of the paranormal world that I've
not had a lot of experience in. I've had it like at antique stores, sometimes where,
I get a very, very strong smell and then it will go away very quickly. And I had it specifically
with like pipe tobacco. I can smell that. I know exactly what it is. And I remember going through
one place thinking, Oh, this is, you know, it's not going to be like the throw rug here must be
from somebody who smoked a lot. Go back to that part of the store a little bit later. No smell
at all. And there was nobody else in there. And I mean, it was, it was so, it wasn't stale either.
It was like somebody has a pipe right here next to me. Yeah, because there is a difference between
like a stale pipe or cigar smell and something fresh. Yeah, they're very, very much. And I'm
looking around like nobody's got one. Let's go to this phone call and hear what they have just
say. Hi, let's hear you go straight. Hey, Tony, Carol, Todd Harper, Vinnie Carbone,
giving you a call. Had a pretty bizarre experience a few weeks ago. And I just wanted to share it,
I, it's not supernatural, probably in the sense that, you know, we're used to on this program,
but people calling in about, you know, seeing ghosts and stuff like that. But definitely,
I think there's something to it. And so before I get into the story, two little, you know,
two little things to just to put out there was that one was in college. I was at theater major. So,
you know, it was working on shows and stuff like that with all my friends. And it was a great time
in my life and got to do some really cool things. And it was just really cool. And so we were very
much as if anyone who may have worked in the arts or anything like that in college. I would know
that it takes, it takes over your life. Most of your free time is devoted to working on that project.
So that's very much part of your existence at that time. The other little thing to,
to note was that several years ago, a good friend of mine in the paranormal and I came extremely
close to working with these two producers to make this show. And we, everything was pretty much
in place. And, you know, we're good to go. And some, you know, some big money was going to be put
into shooting a pilot episode. And unfortunately, one thing led to another and that person and I had
a phone now. Because of, I called him out on some things that he was doing in his personal life,
that I saw as affecting the project and ultimately him in his personal life. And I saw the road
that he was going down. I called him on it and did not take to that very lightly. And as a result,
he and I had a following out. And obviously the project fell apart as well. And to this day,
he and I don't speak. And yeah, so there's that. That old being said. So those are two things that
sit to know the background for the story. So a couple weeks ago, my fiance and I were out and
and we're doing like wedding planning stuff. We're out, you know, looking at floral arrangements and
all this stuff. And on one point in the day, we were at Michael's, the craft store. And I had to
use the bathroom. So I go into the bathroom. I open the door and like a ton of bricks, this
overwhelming smell of, I don't know what, what it is, the cleaner that they use or whatever the
cases. But this overwhelming smell that was identical to our dressing rooms in college
in the theater building came over me that this bathroom smelled exactly like that. It wasn't
a bad smell or anything like that. It was just, you know, like I said, whatever cleaner they use
or whatever it was smelled exactly like our dressing rooms in college. So I was like, wow.
And now, you know, the sense of smell is such an overwhelming thing and is basically like a
time machine because, you know, you could smell something and, you know, it could take you right
back to college or one of your friends or an ex or something like that. And that's what happened in
this moment. So anyway, I was like, okay, you know, that's really sure, you know, what it is,
whatever. I just kind of shook it off one about my day. And then a day, you know, we say, hey,
let's go to dinner. So we go to this restaurant where we live and it's around dinner time and
it's pretty busy. And my fiance and I sit, you know, we're placed in a booth. And again,
I have to use the restroom. So I get up, I go to the bathroom, I open the door and again, boom,
the same thing. Except this time, it smells exactly like the office that we worked in. We had a
drama club on campus. And I was a president of the club and we were in there. I honestly was in
that office way, way more than I was ever in my actual dorm, just because again, working on
multiple shows at a time. So I walked into the bathroom at this restaurant and it was exactly the
same smell of the office that we had in college. Now I haven't been in college since 2010. So it's
been a long time, but that goes to show you how powerful this, this, this scent was with that,
it transformed me back to that time. So come back to the table, I sit down, I sit in my fiance,
I say, I know this is going to sound really weird, but something about college is going to pop up
soon. She goes, she's like, what do you mean? So I tell her, the two, you know, both of the
bathrooms I've gone into today has smelled exactly like something that we, you know, from college
with the theater upon me. So I say, something to do with college, I don't know if it's going to be good
or bad. Something to do with like a professor is going to reach out to us or like our friend from
college or something, I don't know, I don't know, but something's going to happen. Okay, we go about
our dinner, we have dinner. Now to the right of me was a table of four women having dinner, it
looked to be one of their birthdays and you know, they're having a good time, they're laughing and
stuff like that. And we finish eating dinner, we're talking. And I happened to look to my right,
I make eye contact with one of the girls, I look back at my fiance and in that moment of me
looking at that woman to looking at my fiance, it dawned on me that the person that I was looking
at is the wife of my former best friend that I had the falling out with. Who was very, very much
involved in the theater department. He wasn't a theater major, but he and I worked very closely
in, you know, on shows together. I should have mentioned that earlier. So because that we met in
college. And I said to her, I think that's who that is. And in the amount, in the amount of time
it took for me to make that realization, articulate it. And for her to realize what I just said to her,
those four women stood up and started to leave. And sure enough, it was his wife,
she puts her purse over her shoulder, she looks me dead. Yeah, and she says,
having a night and like a very snarky kind of way, it walks out the door. So
paranormal in the ghostly sense, no, but definitely supernatural in some kind of divine intervention.
I don't know what you want to chalk it up to be. Maybe it was my body's way or the universe,
whatever, preparing me for this exchange, I don't know. But it's one of these things you think about,
when you strip away all of that, we've patted our lives with in this day and age of technology
and distractions and all that. At the end of the day, we are still just animals that are meant to
be out in the wild and looking for food and surviving. And now we have all of these conveniences
of life, you know, that God we do. But maybe it's just one of those things. And the sense of smell
is meant to be a thing to warn you, on coming danger or fire or whatever the case is. So I don't
know. So I'd love to hear what you guys think about that. Like I said, definitely, was it something to
do with like the paranormal in the way that we think of it? Not really. I don't think so, but
definitely top, top weirdest things that's ever happened to me. All right guys, as always,
thank you so much. Love the show and look forward to hearing more.
Very interesting on timing the way all that worked out.
Absolutely. And I love this one because I love his thought process. Like he's so right. And we
talked about it before we had the call. And that is like just smells can bring you back and bring
things to mind. And he did what we all do. You know, you smell it and you're like, oh,
must be something that they're using as a cleaner that took me back there. And then it happened
again. What I love though is that he took it the next step and said something about college may
come up. And not only did he keep it to himself, he felt good enough about sharing it with his
fiance at the time. I this story, while it's not necessarily ghost related, it certainly is
paranormal. And I think it is Andrew energy related. And maybe it was the universe trying to warn him.
Be aware of something's going to happen. Yeah. I wish the universe would do more of that
in terms of warning. Look out. You're going to be near somebody you don't want to be by, but
it's interesting story without a doubt. Thank you for sharing that with us.
