In this week's Outspoken Review I'm telling you about a new fragrance that is going to get you numerous compliments, a beautiful SPF from one of my favourite Korean brands, a denim jumpsuit of dreams, the shoes that Ruth Crilly recommended that I'm glad I succumbed to and a stunning lip product from Stila.
xx
Hello, I'm Nicola Vaughn and this is the outspoken beauty podcast, I've got really something
really itchy, I'm wearing a jumpsuit, hang on, I'm literally, I'm unzipping myself.
Oh, okay guys, what it is, I am a weird bit of a tree, had blown down my jumpsuit, as
have I got in, it's ridiculous.
In fact, this actually, this is a very, this is quite a good kind of leading to my first
recommendation for you, it is the mini pot on a Wednesday outspoken review where I recommend
things to you.
And I, I was going to recommend the very jumpsuit that the little bit of tree has just gone
into.
And it is from River Island, now Donna Ida, I don't know if you've heard of her, she makes
these really, really beautiful denim jumpsuits, they're amazing and they're really, really
expensive, just crazy expensive.
And I very proudly got one on vintage recently, I think it was worth about three hundred
and sixty five pounds and I got it for about, what was it, sixty eight pounds and it's
this leopard print denim jumpsuit, which I think you may have seen on Instagram or not.
But anyway, really, really nice, one thing I will say is that the colour has faded a bit,
it has it, when it came it was all very bright and lovely and I haven't put it in the
dryer, so something's going on there.
Anyway, I thought what looks very, very Donna Ida actually from River Island and it's
just really comfy, denim jumpsuit, it's got a zip up the front, easy access and it's
got a little kind of belted bit around the waist, so it sort of cinches you in a bit.
And then it's slightly flaired at the bottom, I absolutely bloody love it because it's actually,
it's quite smart looking and quite sexy, but also really, really comfortable.
And as I said, easy to get off when you need the Lou because it's just a zip, I did try
another one and it had these massive all-nate buttons and I swear, I love to this jumpsuit
on me, but it took so long to undo the buttons, I was like there's absolutely no way, I just
can't be having that, if you're dying for the Lou and you're trying to get out of a jumpsuit
and you're stuck because the buttons won't undo, that is no good is it, but I do go back
to River Island, again, I always like, you know, I love vintage these days, I'm really
enjoying vintage and I am really, really trying to buy less stuff new, I'm really trying
them, but sometimes I get into these rats or I'm like, God, I just need something quickly
that I know is going to look good and often River Island fulfills that for me, surprisingly,
you wouldn't think it, but they have got some really, really nice stuff on there, really
like their denim in particular, anyway, there you go, easy access jumpsuit tick, the other
kind of clothes related thing is I was totally influenced by Ruth Crilly, I don't, do follow
Ruth Crilly on Instagram, I don't kind of religiously follow many people, there's not
many people I'll go on Instagram and actually look at their grid and see what they're doing,
but I think Ruth is just genius, she is so funny and irreverent, she gives great recommendations,
she's just amazing, and she is worth the follow, but she was recommending these shoes, I mean
she hasn't actually, I think her's arrived today as well, they're fit flop, and they've
got these like Mary Jane style shoes, but they're in leopard print, and I just thought, God,
I really want those because they'll be great as we kind of move more spring summer just
to shove on with like jeans or a dress or they'll go with everything and they look super
comfy but also quite nice, so I bought them and they are so comfortable, and again, I mean
they don't look bad, they do look a bit like I'm a school girl, but in leopard print but
I'm kind of here for that, I like the Mary Jane look, so thank you Ruth, because I don't
wear heels, I cannot handle heels, I think they're horrible things, so when I can get a pair
of flats that I can just wear with anything and that aren't trainers, it's a winner,
oh the other person by the way who I love for fashion is Lily Pebbles, he's like the
kind of old school bloggers aren't they, but Lily, I mean she's having a bit of a love
affair with Uniqlo at the moment, and one thing I noticed was Uniqlo, I don't know if
you've been there recently, they do these tops with inbuilt like padded bits, so you don't
need to wear a bra, and I've got quite big boobs, but my boobs look really good in these
tops, it's a little, it's almost like it in a way a crop top, they're quite supportive,
and they're padded, and it's just so freeing in the summer, not to have to wear a bra,
so I bought some last year, but Lily made the really good point and I totally agree with
her, they're a little bit cropped and so they just don't sit quite right with everything,
but Lily was saying they've just bought out longer versions, they're great, I cannot
recommend these things highly enough, so I'm definitely going to get a couple of those for,
yeah, for the summer because they're just gorgeous, so thank you Lily for your fashion advice
as well, amazing, really, really dangerous, they because I really could do with not spending
more money on stuff I probably don't need, and now I'm going to obviously recommend more stuff
to you, and you probably don't need it either, I was having this whole dilemma about this,
I'm like, I just, you know, when I recommend things, I sometimes feel, I feel two things,
number one, am I just like a kind of QVC presenter, just like doing a selling, but actually not
getting paid to do it at all, but number two, is it useful because obviously I'm really, you know
that I only recommend things I really, really like, and I hope that's useful because there is
just so much stuff out there, and it helps you to navigate that, I hope it's useful, I just don't
want you to feel like I'm just like buy this, buy that, because you know, I don't know if you're
anything like me, but I'm really trying not to spend as much at the moment, even though I do
get a little thrill when I do spend stuff, I can't help that, but anyway, let's, I will tell you
about a few things, so the first one is, I went to Space and Care, this fragrance pop up in
King's Cross in London, and it was really cool, I really liked the fragrances, they had like
all sorts of brands, but the one that I fell in love with was, so you know, eccentric molecules,
they, their first thing they ever did was molecule one, they do these fragrances called M plus,
so what they do is they get molecule one, which is a single molecule, and if you remember when
when it first came out, everybody went mad for it because they felt like it kind of had a
feremonic quality that would combine with somebody's skin, and people would find irresistible,
and people, some people can't smell it at all, some people think it's the best thing ever, but
what they've done in recent years is they've mixed that one molecule with other,
I suppose, flavours, so they've got molecule one and mandarin, they've got molecule one,
well, so they've got, they've got all sorts, molecule one and ginger, but the one that has
absolutely captured my heart is their newest one, and it's molecule one plus shampakka,
now shampakka sounds a bit like champagne, but it's not, it's actually, I think a flower that's
related to the magnolia tree, it is such a beautiful, beautiful note, shampakka, it's gorgeous,
and when you mix it with molecule one, it's bloody irresistible, because the molecule one,
number one is going to give longevity to the shampakka, so it'll stand out more, but it also gives
this kind of, I guess, skin-like central warmth to this beautiful, very seductive floral,
this isn't a sweet floral, this is a former refined sophisticated floral, a bit of a kind of
purring cat of a floral, I'd say, so the molecule one with a shampakka, it is irresistible, I
absolutely adore it, so if you are in a position where, so they, well, they sell it in space,
okay, that's for sure, but they sell it all over the place, if you're in a position where you go
and try it, I always think that, try it, don't blind by it, just because I said it's good,
because you might think bloody how nickel and no way, that's not for me, try it and see,
but I think this could be a beautiful fragrance to wear over the spring, but also if you are the
kind of person who prefers a bit of a signature, I don't know, I think this has got a bit of a
signature feel to it, I can imagine people getting very addicted and wanting to wear this
all the time, so yeah, that is my first recommendation, now moving on, I was very, very lucky,
because I realised I'm lucky, I got scent products, and I was sent a little package from Stila,
and I really like Stila, I think a lot of the products are very well thought out, and they,
they do the job well, which is what I want from my makeup, I want it to work for me,
and they've got a product called Heavens Jew Honey Glow Bar, and I've got this on my lips now,
so this is, this is how they describe it, a honey infused bar, kissed with maracouge oil,
and hyaluronic acid, plumping action with clinically proven maxi lip complex,
sheer colour and shine for smooth, pouty lips and a hint of vanilla flavour,
I don't know about the plumping action, what I do know is it feels beautifully hydrating
on the lips, but the thing that I really like about this is the little hint of colour you get,
it's very subtle, but it is absolutely there, and the one I'm wearing is called Cherry O,
and it's like this luscious, like raspberry pink, but it's very, very sheer, and it just is like
for people who don't like being high maintenance with their lips, this product is absolutely for you,
you just put it on, you feel like your lips look lovely and hydrated and kissable,
and they've got a bit of colour on them, but nothing over the top, I really, really like it,
there are other products on the market like it, but I really like the way it feels and the way it
looks, so that's definitely got a thumbs up, and another thing that I'm really interested in,
as you know, how much I love the beauty of Joseon, and they've got that kind of rice serum,
it's just very, so it's a Korean brand, it's really popular, and I think you can buy it in
boots and all over the place, but everything feels very skin loving, barrier-protecting, and I
really enjoy using their serum, but they've got some really interesting sunscreens, and the one
that has absolutely caught my attention is called relief sun, rice, and probiotics, and it's
so it's an SPF 50-plus, and it's got a PA of four stars, which means it's giving you that all
important protection for UVA, which stands for aging, and UVB, which stands for burning,
and the way they describe it is it's a lightweight and creamy type organic sunscreen
that's comfortable on the skin, and I think it's the words comfortable on the skin
that stand out to me, because all too often when we use a sunscreen, it doesn't feel so comfortable,
it can feel clawing, it can feel, in some cases a little bit itchy, a little bit heavy, and
you know, if you ask anybody in the skincare industry, they'll say, you know, the most important SPF
is the one you're happy to wear every day, and I feel like something like this, it feels good,
because it's going to be looking after your skin, it's got beautiful ingredients,
it's going to feel comfortable, but it's also giving you that all important protection,
and I just think I was talking to the absolutely brilliant Sam Farmer today, who is
not only a skincare founder, but he has trained extensively in the world of skincare science
and chemistry, he's just so well informed, and he said, we were talking about teenage skincare,
and he said, the most important and only thing really teenagers should be doing, as well as
washing their faces and using a bit of moisturizer, is some protection. That's the thing,
you've got all these teenagers thinking they need to be, you know, there are teenagers using anti-aging
ingredients, thinking that because people on TikTok, etc, saying, if you start anti-aging when
you're young, then you'll never have a problem and bullshit like that, so they're using,
you know, there are teenagers using retinol still, it's bloody scary, but you know, the only thing really
that they should be using to keep this skin healthy is a good SPF, and I wonder if something like this
might be nice for them as well, because it's just that kind of skin comfort. And the other thing I
was going to mention was just that gattano have got, this is something I've used before and
absolutely loved, and I'm so happy to have another one, it's their golden glow, gradual tan face serum,
and this is just, it's got again really nice ingredients, so this actually has been formulated,
they say, with marine bio retinol, I mean to be fair, I don't really worry about whether there's
any active in my, in my tally products, I just want a good, good looking tan from it,
but it is, I suppose, nice, because often, you know, well, always when you're doing fake tan,
you're not going to use your normal active, so for some people, that's really important that they're
getting, they're retinoid and there's higher, higher ronate in here as well, and but really it's
just a quite a nice fake tan, I also really, really love bare-by-vogue, I think they're brilliant,
they do their little drops, I think they're kind of like invisible tanning drops, they're amazing
as well, but it is that time of year, well, I think a little bit of a tan on my face is always
very, very welcome, that is it for now, I did, are you mostly on Instagram, I made my announcement
that I am in training as a sex educator, so outspoken beauty isn't going anywhere, but I'm also
going to really enjoy helping teenagers, but also women, be educated in the right way about sex,
because I think there's there's huge issues at the moment, and I'm really, really excited about it,
and keep in touch guys, do DM me, I love hearing from you at outspoken beauty nicola,
now it's outspoken nicola bond, so there you go, give me a DM, let me know how you're doing and I'll
speak to you soon.
