Oh, no, it's what people love. The hearts of saints, the shadow knows. A shadow, mysterious character who wage owes and distress and helps the forces of law and order is in reality Le Manscranston, wealthy young man of outtown. Cranston's friend and companion, the lovely Margot Lane, is the only person who knows to whom the unseen voice belongs. The only one who knows the true identity of that master of other people's minds, the shadow. Today's story is Black Rock. The Lord is the Lord of the Heaven.
Rock, let down, Lord! The flames are ready for takeoff, Martin. And what are takeoff? Right, the state's of a watery grave, you only know it. The lesson, Lord, you better not let the wicked air you're shooting off your mouth like that. Scared of that sweet little. Yeah, get nothing on me. Oh, nothing at all, except that you're a pilot with all the licenses that make in his living, flying smuggled dope. So what? I don't think I can't see what goes on. I know that Brickett's swindler is stockholders out of a couple of million bucks. And now he's skipping this plane. Well, what if he is? Yeah, getting paid plenty, ain't ya? Sure, sure. Oh, hello, Mr. Brickett. Is the plane ready for takeoff? Yeah, it's fueled with an image of fly 1500 miles of necessary. The supplies are all loaded, too, boys. Where, you know, of course, we're heading for Nova Scotia. Yeah, Mr. Brickett. Mr. Brickett. Oh, there. What are you doing here?
I followed you. Where are you going, Mr. Brickett? I watch that to you, Father. I happen to know that you're upsconding with the company's funds. I'll say, here, Father. Mr. Brickett, you can't do this. Think what will happen to me to the stockholders, everyone. Oh, there, I'm not running out on you. You don't know what you're saying. I do know what I'm saying. I know that in that suitcase you have $2 million of the company's funds. You made me president, and I'm responsible for both funds. I'll be ruined. Ruin the ad here, and I'll give me back that money. Let's go of that bag, Father. Give it to me. I say you're stealing the company's money. What? Martin, take care of him. Well, you're going to get me that. I won't. I won't. I want that money. I want that money. Give it to him, Martin. That'll stop that. Nice work, Martin. I'll show him out of the plane. All right, okay. Huh. All right. Let's get out of there. So you're cleaning out your company, Brickett? Rob, your poor, dead, trusting stockholders. I'm not supposed to know about this one. Oh, no. Not even the $2 million you get sold in that suitcase.
You are hired to pilot this plane and that's all. So get the plane off the ground. Okay. As long as I get my cut. Don't worry about it. You're getting old. Looks like Dorothy will be cut. I'd folks roll in and trick her every minute. Okay. What do you expect from the Grand Bank's mate? Where are your economic positions? About 200 miles. Do you use the K-Pray scuttle? Wreckage of the poor, proud, Carly! Wreckage of the poor, proud, proud. Wreckage of the poor, proud, a cut, the engine mate. Heiser. What do you make it, look out?
Wreckage of the poor, proud, proud, proud. Looks like the way you're a wrestler. And airplane. Do you suppose it could be that plane that flew to sea four days ago, sir? It might be. Heavens that she is. Heiser off a bit. We'll drift down on it. I have it. Look, there's the plane's number on the wing, sir. Can you make it out? Err... X... One, seven, five, two. X... One, seven, five, two. That's the plane, Captain. I remember the number. I heard a radio broadcast of all the last night. Oh, that's what happened at the poor billows. Lost her costs and dropped into the sea. Look, land in that line. Land the hand and we'll hold that wingerboard. Err... Get the line, bloody United. Till I get the dori's over, Captain, nothing is far from it. We've cruised about. I have a notion we'll find no trace of the three-fourth devil that would have bought it. Poor devil. Rich devil, you mean, sir? And... Bucket stole two million dollars from the poor stockholders of the company. Hey. So the money in the world will do them no good and David Jones locker.
I... The rest of the plane is on the bottom of the bank. And then, Rascal's dinner. I made... Lost. Take my life on it. Lost forever. And two million dollars of four people's money lost with them. Extra extra twinglers playing bound in sea. Spirted in companions to leave ground. Paper, paper. Police see my car in this company. President's reporting. And... The mark, do you mean that the poor man really had nothing to do with the money being stolen? Absolutely nothing, Margot. That's why we're driving down here. Rank Harvey is an honest man. He was set up as president of the company by the company. He's a great man. He's a great man. And then, he's a great man. He's a great man. He's a great man. He's a great man. He's a great man. He's a great man. He's a great man. He was set up as president of the company by the company.
Harvey thought it was a legitimate investment house. And why can't he tell that to police? Because, unfortunately, that would never hold in a courtroom. The head of the firm is directly responsible to the people for their stolen money. Where did you say you'd meet him? Siding down by Miller's Creek. Is that right down this road? Yes. I think it's this third cottage here. And it's good up to see. All right, Le Mans. There's someone in the window. He's waving for us to men. Yes, that's Harvey. We go in the side door. How long has he been hiding here? About a week, I believe. Mr. Grant, hello, Harvey. Come in, please. Thank you. This is Miss Le Mans, how do you do? How do you do? I'm so glad you could come here, Mr. Grant. I hope I can be of service. Well, I have to pretty fall on hope, I guess. What, with the bucket presumably, the bottom of the sea? Resulmably, Mr. Harvey? Yes. You see, I can't make myself believe that he's dead. I'm inclined to agree with you on that. You are.
Why, Le Mans? Well, for one thing, Margot, their bodies were never found. Le Mans, I don't like to be stubborn, but the Atlantic is a mighty big pond. Yes. But I also know that when Berkett planned his getaway, he wouldn't have figured on flying across the ocean and a plane with a cruising range of only 600 miles. They were flying to Canada and got off their course. Yes, that's true. No, Harvey. War, although Crooked was an excellent pilot. He was an expert navigator. He knew blind flying. Then, since you think they're alive, how did their plane crash 200 miles at sea? Fly itself? Fly itself. Mother, you've given me an idea. It's the only thing I haven't been able to figure out. Or what are the things you have figured out, Mr. Grant? I'm afraid I can't tell you right now, but if they work, the missing money will be returned to the stockholders, and your name will be cleared, Mr. Harvey. What do you expect to find at the airport at this time of night, Le Mans? I'd like to take a look around the hangover Berkett kept his plane, Margot. Well, what can you learn there?
I'm going to stake everything on a shot in the dark. There's no one in that hangover at the watchman. He doesn't know anything, or if he does, the police and the G-men didn't get it out of the way. I'm going to take a look around the hangover where Berkett kept his plane, Margot. Well, what can you learn there? I'm going to stake everything on a shot in the dark. The G-men didn't get it out of him. So how can you help? I'm going to ask him one question, Margot. How could a ghost air plane fly 200 miles and crash into the sea? And you expect a number from him? Not I, but the shadow does. Look, look through those windows. There's the watchman. He's asleep. I won't wake him, Margot. It'll be easier for the hypnotic powers of the shadow. The force is a conscious mind to answer the question. I'll wait out here, Le Mans. In a few minutes, we'll know if Berkett really went to his death in the wrecked plane.
Hmm... Berkett. You sleep soundly, Jeff Carson. Hello, here in the empty hangover. Berkett. Berkett, Berkett. That name troubles your sleep, doesn't it, Berkett? No. No, no, no. You mustn't wake up from sleep. That just a conscious mind, yummy. I am Berkett. Berkett. I am Berkett. Berkett. You are remembering, recalling the things I paid you to forget. I paid you, didn't I, Carson? Yes. You paid me $1,000. Why? Why did I pay you? I wouldn't tell you about the extra fuel tanks. Yes, yes. Keep remembering, Carson. The automatic pilot sleep. Sleep time. I won't tell anybody. I won't tell anybody about the long flight you took Mr. Berkett.
Where did I go on those trips, Carson? Hmm. Remember now. Back ride. Back ride. No. No, I won't tell anybody. Why did I install an automatic pilot, Carson? Why? The fly. Back ride. Thousand miles. Land. And the war. The war is to take the ship off and set the automatic pilot in the veil out. So, that's it. A ghost plane flown by a robot pilot cruising, see what a new instrument is. Yeah. Where is BlackRock, Carson? Where is BlackRock? BlackRock. BlackRock is 25 miles off the coast. Right. Right. What am I saying? Hold on. Hold on. I won't tell anyone.
We must be getting there BlackRock Le Mans. Yes, Margot. I hope we've reached it before I get too dark to land the plane. You've come a long way since you left New York this morning. It's exactly 1,000 miles of Black Rock. How far off the coast of Labrador? About 25 miles. Break it, certainly fixed, a secluded spot. Just a dot of an island on this map. Margot, 10 million glasses. I think I see land. Where, Le Mans? Straight ahead. Yes, that's it, Margot. Our low-shape Black Rock. They're supposed to be a small corb to the landward side. How can this seaplane land with all this ice in the water? I've got to hope for enough open water, Margot. The mud is broken and is gangrenned Black Rock. They'll hear the plane. Can't be helped. It's possible to land. I'm going ashore tonight. You want me to stay in the plane? Yes. You better keep this rifle. Case they tried to board the plane while I'm ashore. Rockets, blargers, we get nearer. How will you find them? They may hide until we go. The shadow will find them, Margot.
There can't be many places to hide. I don't feel fine of life. Not even a half or a cent. According to explorers reports, there's several large sea caves. They may be using one of those. There's the inlet on the landward side, the morn. Is easily free of ice. Yes. Nice, eh? Hold on, Margot. I've got a tidal land of that open water. Heaven help us if we hit any pack, guys. Get out the light, preserves. Just in case. We're crazy, Dan the bad water. Dan? Dan the bad? You made it, Margot. You made it. Yes. And now the shadow must do the rest. Come on, Margot.
Down this path. At least to the toll. Hurry up. Hold that land in the higher will you? I can't see. It's better. Hey, sure you know where break is it that boat? Yeah. It's in that little cave. Like funny edge of the water. Shoot that. Shoot that. Shoot that. Shoot that. Shoot that. Shoot that. Shoot that. Shoot that. Lance not. Will you? Want me to break my neck? Oh, if I hold him any higher. I'm working on it. Well, let him see it. I'll kill him if he tries to keep it from getting off. That's blast and rock that time. Working on it. If he catches it trying to get that plane in the cold. Hey, who do you spoil to this after us? For which, eh? To plane, eh? A chance to get away from Britain. Well, I had to leave and let out that money. Not after the way he stopped us. Check this around like dawn. All right, all right. We'll get the plane. Then we'll take care of it, right? All right. Close the cold.
Look, I told you we'd find it tonight. Yeah. Yeah. Come on. Yeah. What have we written for? Come on, let's pull out to that plane. Oh, we've got to get that. Shut up, run. Listen. I think it's something like somebody left. Left and at us. Ah, yeah. I'll rate it. It's the wind. Oh. You hear that? Somebody's close to us, watching us. Get down. Maybe quick. I. I heard it, too. Put out the landing quick. It's no use. I'm not broke. You can't hide from me in the darkness. Some guy from that plane. All right. Come on into the light and be quick about it, fella. Cover him with your gun, Martin. It can't see him. I am standing in the light. Close to you. But you cannot see me. What do you want? I've come for you. It's the cops' work. It's the cops they found her. It's not the police, Mr. Martin.
Oh, no. Then, how are you? You've been in prison both of you? Haven't you ever heard of the shadow? Shadow. I know about it, sir, the seal. Not the shadow. No, no, this forsaken rock. The end of the world is not far enough to hide you from me. What? That voice. I've heard time talk about it. It's him. It's here. There's been a slip. He's come for us. Yeah. All right. Let's get Mrs. Another thing. And I'll tell Nami Shadow of Virginia. Even if I can't see you. I'll take you and the time comes. But first I need to get Spurkin' in the $2 million stall. And clear the name of Frank Harvey. Well, you can have Brickett, but you'll never get that $2 million shadow. Not one of you will escape from your friendish. That watchman squeal, didn't he? I won't, Brickett. Come on, Ward. We got to fight, Brickett. You'll know what to do. Yes, go to Brickett. Warn him the shadow is here.
Tell him you'll never leave Black Rock alive. Never live to spend the fruits of your crime. Brickett, Brickett. Brickett. Are you having a cake? What does the matter with you, Martin? Where have you been? Been around at the Colf. Watching at Plains. Do you know who was in it? Yes, of course I know. That's a girl. And she won't give us any trouble. I have to use that for girls. And he didn't come alone. I don't know what you fools are talking about. Who didn't come alone? The shadow. The shadow is here. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. You shouldn't come alone. The shadow. The shadow is here. Black Rock is shadow. Where are you, Cris? Now, he's here. He said we'd never leave the island alive. Oh, how did the shadow know that we didn't carry for the plane? At Watchmen, the airport must have squealed. So, the shadows trailed at a thousand miles. So this was taken hide away. And flamed right into our hands.
What's so funny? What do you mean? Look over there. See who's gagged and tied to that cut. What? Look, he's got the girl! How did you do it? How did you get around to the plane? I went out on the boat and I merely gave her the choice of coming as sure having the plane's fun tunes riddled with bullets. The shadow was on the rock here. Look for us. Well, let him find it. We'll give him the choice of giving himself up with being his girlfriend putting one of the lower t-capes until the tide comes in. That is the minor. Well, that shouldn't bother you. You and Ward have been watching for a chance to meet me ever since we came to Black Rock. You know why, don't you? Because you've been starving us to death for your own good, your fool. We've got seven months of weather ahead of us. If the food gives up before we can leave here like summer, we'll die by slow-stopping. That is just how you will die. Unless you tell me the hiding place of the $2 million bucket. The shadow is here. In the sea, can you be following us?
I'm glad you're here, Shadow. Now we can settle this. I'll make a bargain with you. The shadow doesn't bargain with criminals' bucket. I've got the girl who came with you. There she is. Look at that. I'll give you two minutes to come out of the shadows and give yourself up. Give myself up to be murdered. Ground in the lower t-capes. Oh, no, Birkett. You have no choice. We'll down the girl. Birkett, listen to me. Would you have the murder of an innocent girl on your conscience in your last days and hours when you are slowly starving to death on this Bell and Island? You can't scare us, Shadow. We're plenty of food. You had plenty of food, Birkett. But look at it now. Look at the chest of food you have so carefully ordered. Look at them, Birkett. Look at them. Birkett. The box is smashed. The chest of an object. What? Bite it. Look, the flower. The dry meat is soaked. So put our caracene. Look, this chest is the same.
We can't eat it. What about the can't stuff? The can't stuff. He couldn't spoil that. Get away from those cacers, Martin. No, you don't. You're not going to keep what's left for yourself. I'm taking the rest of this bowl and I'm going to the mainlayer now. Put down that cacemarton. Put it down, I tell you. Do what you're going to stop me to death, you crooked rat. All right, Martin. You won't stop. Is that so? You won't stop. Ow! Wushers, you didn't even give me a chance. Your shunner might call blood. You'll do the shunner me if I let you. You'll be a fool. What put down that gun? Listen, there's enough food for us and I need you. I couldn't stay here alone. I'd go crazy. There's only food and a poor one man, Birkett. And I'm going to be that man. No, you don't want to. Are you? You're weak, me. Wig me a devil. Come on, finish it, job. Finish me. Better than the starboard or death. I have a nut for you. What? What? What?
I only met the skater. What is not death, Birkett? Your bulletin-ish older. Shock, hunger. That's all. Now, what kind of a bargain will you make? I make no bargains with you, Shadow. Remember I've still got the girl. No, Birkett. She's gone. Look on the carter, Rob's a cut. She's gone. Go. You've got her loose. Yes. Why are you brought together? I could only see you. I'll never let the sea in a human face if you don't give yourself up. No, I'll sacrifice everything for that $2 million and I'll never give it up. You've got to give it up, Birkett. Do you want to stay here, starving, raising your death for nothing? Now, tell me where have you hidden the money. No. Now, tell me, I say. Well, as the money you stole from the thousands of poor and fronting people, you betray me. No, I'll never get it. I'll never get it. Birkett. What you mutton you but you don't seem to realize I have the power to make you or maybe.
Don't move, Birkett. That's it. Stay here with the speed. Keep staring into the shadows. No, Rob. That gun, Birkett. Drop that gun. Your fingers can't hold it. Drop that gun. Drop it. Now, where have you hidden the money? Under the chest. You're a fool, Birkett. Like a bald criminal. You told me what I want to know. Father, father, take the ropes and the gun. Time's at hand behind him. He can't move. All right, Shadow. Sorry, my boy, hurry. Draw his hands behind this bag. Tight them. Tight. Tight. Tight. Now, my lord, get out. Get back to the place. Hi, hurry. No, Shadow. Shadow, don't. Don't leave me here to die. I give up the money.
I'll go back and sell tires. Yes, Birkett. You'll give up the money that was never yours. You'll go back and sell tires. You'll go back and sell tires. You'll go back and sell tires. Both you and Ward. I wreck your boats. You can't escape. Tomorrow, a postcard cutter of an automatic ice patrol will pick you up. There'll take you back to Pete or your crime. Le Mans, you did the ice patrol, believe your message. I have the plane's radio tuned in on their regular band. They'll notify their shore base. They're proceeding to Black Rock. Ice patrol cutter calling. There it is, no. Hello. Hello. Ice patrol cutter, proceeding to Black Rock under Fort Strath. proceeding to Black Rock under Fort Strath.
They believe you, Le Mans. They believe the Shadow. Let your cause home, Woodmoggle. Our job is finished. All of the months in court it means all those poor people will get their money back. They won't suffer. They won't lose their home. And Mr. Harvey's name will be cleared. Yes, Muggle. And this will be a warning to others. That even the best laid plans of the smartest criminals can tell there is no perfect crime. There is no perfect crime. There's no perfect crime. All of the months in court it means all those poor people will get their money back. There is no perfect crime. The weed of crime bears to fruit.
Crime does not pay. The shadow knows.
