And you know, to to Brando's point way earlier, you have to win the games. So it doesn't matter what the schedule is. Who's out? Who's in? You have to get those wins. So to me, it's as simple as that. Like you have a schedule that actually favors you. And if you take care of business, you'll be in the playoffs. They come home. They get ball tomorrow. I don't really have any questions about their pitching anymore. I only have questions about the bats. And when those guys are going to show up, kidding. So the Dernichliment get a hit yesterday. I was a little too is even in the lineup right now. He is. Did he get a hit yesterday? All right. Well, anyways, I think I saw something where his last like 98 at bats going into yesterday had resulted in either a strikeout flyout or ground out. He hasn't reached base in almost 100 at bats. So that's brutal. That's really bad, especially because he's basically been like the most consistent bat through the year of just like, yeah, he can get you a hit a game or something like he can get something going. It's disappointing to see, but you know,

9:27maybe they'll turn it on. Maybe who knows? I think we've been saying that since April. Yeah, you know what, you're right. But they can still make the playoffs because they do have a favorable schedule. So I mean, please just either put us out of our misery now or quit dicking around. Fenty not happy. That's way to say it. Blair texting in. I'm not going to read the expletive that Blair included in this text, but I'll give you an idea. Okay. Jays will probably crap the bed this weekend. And you're right there. And then now you've got this schedule that's basically the equivalent of a layup if you just take care of business and you're pissing it away. Stop it, blue jays. 10:28behalf of blue jays fans. Canada's team. No, they're Toronto's team that Canada really likes. As a debax fan, I can say whatever I want about the blue jays. It's great. All right, we're going to switch gears. We're going to talk about the Ottawa Senators. And to do that, we're going to go to TSA 1200s. Gord Wilson. I hear a gord that you're enjoying the last remaining bits of summer. I hope it's wonderful. What's your situation right now before the craziness of the hockey season hits us? Well, I'm up to my my personal situation or just a situation in general. I'm up to my eyeballs and renovations at a cottage that I'm turning into a four-seasoner. So I can move up to, yeah, and it's been a process. But you know what final stages here, light at the end of the tunnel, which means after a senator's golf tournament on Tuesday, the light is shining brightly on the start of the upcoming season. And everybody who's been involved in this game and for those of us on off a long time know that, you know, a golf tournament,

11:30a team golf tournament really signifies the start of the season. Unofficial start of the season. And then it was fun talking to the players and, yeah, and being around the coaches and management on Tuesday for the senators. Yeah, we get that with the Oilers next Thursday. So that's always a good time. And you're right. It is the start of the hockey season. Okay, I know that the sends had their availability. A couple days ago. And obviously a lot of talk about Brady Kitchock and and that who's next captain of this team? What did you make of what the players had to say? And and then Brad Martian trolling Tim still love about the captain situation. Not going to lie from this market. I kind of looked at that and go, that was funny and entertaining. What did you think of it? Well, we all thought it was funny and entertaining. And I think Tim Stutzle thought it was funny and entertaining. It's interesting because Tim is best friends with Drake Batherson, who is best friends with Brad Martian. So, you know, Brad was being Brad as as Drake said. And I guess he texted, I guess Drake texted Brad right away. And so what are you doing? And he got

12:35another Ha Ha response. So, you know, it's it's Martian being Martian and nothing to it whatsoever. Stutzle is a great player and he's going to be a greater player as he grows more into his role in his game. And he's he's a there's no question. I don't think he's going to be the captain of the team, but he's certainly going to be wearing an A on a regular basis. And for good reason, this is essentially his team or his and a few others, but he's a big part of the leadership group without question. Thomas Shabbat, you know, made some comments about obviously to Chuck's decision to leave and you know, talking about how you want guys that want to be there and be part of the city. As a as a franchise, I guess as a city that had a player leave the way that he did, like what are those comments, I guess, mean for the city and for the organization? Well, you know, for the players, and you're right, you started this by saying, you know, there was a lot of talk about Brady.

13:39Could Chuck, there was from a media standpoint, I can tell you the players were very dismissive in discussing the situation. And in fact, basically, and I did a talk show outside the tenth hole the other day. And so anybody who rolled by we put on the air. And essentially the comments were all the same. It's done. This is the last time we talk about it. He's gone. He plays for another team. And Thomas Shabbat before the golf tournament did address the media and say just that, look, he was one of my best friends on the team and he's a great player and he's still a great friend and still a great player. He just happens to play for another team. It's, I guess, the sign of the times and players are so in tune now with what the business side of the game is all about, that they fully understand that things can change in a heartbeat. And we're so we've seen it not just in the auto will market, but obviously Detroit Winnipeg is going through the same thing with Halibok. It's just again for lack of a better term sign of the times. Let's just say this. The

14:43players are holding more cards of the deck than they have ever held before and they're taking full advantage of it. And I don't think anybody can blame them. Kachak being one of them. It's unfortunate that you know you don't honor your contract. You almost feel there's a right to not have to honor your contract and that's too bad. But such as life in the NHL. So the players know that they understand it and essentially they have all from an auto perspective said, Jeff, that's it. We're done. He's on another team. Understandable. Gord Wilson with us. TSN 1200 in Ottawa and the SENS team. I think a lot of people look at them as like feisty plucky. They find their way into the postseason and then they're doing it in a stacked Atlantic division with the move and all that. Like is this team and the possibility of the playoffs? Is it is it realistic? Are they going to take a step back? I know Florida speaking of Florida. They're expected to be another

15:46juggernaut again this year after a tough season last year. Like how does the SENS stack up in this division? Can they make it to the postseason again with what they have in tow? Well, that's the best question. Right? That's the biggest question going into this season is, who are they going to have to beat out to make the playoffs? And Florida was one of those teams last year. Florida goes to a Stanley Cup final three years in a row, wins it two years in a row, gets hit hard. So probably the hardest in the NHL by injury throughout the course of last season that they missed the playoffs. I don't think there's any doubt that with Brady Kitschock, they are a playoff bound team. And if they get signs of Jacob Markström in goal playing up to his standards or previous standards, they could be an instant cup contender. There used to be a time and I've been doing this an awful long time that general managers refused to trade star players inside their own division and so for

16:50for Ottawa to send Brady Kitschock to a team that, yeah, missed the playoffs last year, but is fully healthy now. And all of a sudden get this unicorn of a player because you don't duplicate Brady Kitschock. You're not going to get Brady Kitschock back in return. That's why Florida paid the price. But look at they've made Florida a team that's probably going to make the playoffs or certainly help them along the way with Brady there. It's going to be a dog fight. Yep, they finished the season strong and strong enough. They got great goal tending at the end of the season to get themselves into postseason play with 99 points, but they need a more consistent season from start to finish, not just to finish. There have been too many years now and certainly the last two are in an indication of that of finishing strong and this playoff pushed to get to the playoffs. They get it done. They old adage is you don't win a Stanley Cup in October and

17:51November, but you can lose the chance to play for us. And prior to the previous two seasons, the senators have done just that, not played well enough to give themselves a chance. Gord, as you remodel your cottage, the sends have I believe remodeled Canadian tire center a little bit and then I'll wait something or a decision. I don't know what with that LeBretton Flax thing in downtown Ottawa. And I think that's important because I remember the all-star. Yeah, I remember when I traveled with the oilers going out to Ottawa and I was like, oh my god, it's like 40 minutes to get to this arena. There's like one way in, one way out. And I know it's one of those mid 90s arenas and now teams want the district and all that. Where are the sends in all of this is the process moving forward at all. You know what? You summed it up best by saying at whatever. I think that's what Ottawa's saying. Well, whatever happens happens. There's still a long, long ways away. Okay, they have a they have a site. It's called LeBretton Flax. It's just in the

18:55outskirts of downtown but they have enough of a plot of land to actually create what you just said is a district. Can they create what Edmonton has? I don't think so but it can probably come close. It's going to be more than just a hockey venue but when you start factoring in real estate as far as condos and shopping malls and aquariums and circus tents or whatever you want to put in there, you're you're dealing with and look at I don't know if you guys know Ottawa probably maybe not as well as I do but construction is construction and red tape is the same color in every city. You guys have dealt with it there. We deal with it here on a daily basis but we deal with it with multi levels of government. So there's a thing called the National Capital Commission that has a say in a lot of things that go on with redevelopment and it was the NCC that said yes the land is yours for

20:00a certain price. Now unfortunately it was a dumping ground for a lot of sledge and for lack of a better term crap all up and go into the ground. So remeasion of the land is going to be an issue of course it is an issue and it's going to be costly. So look at I'm 65 I'm I'm and at the end of my rope with this renovation I'm hoping that I can live long enough to see the new building built. I'm joking of course it's probably within seven to eight years and I've got 25 years left at least in me. It's it's it's going to be a process though for sure. So which is why getting back to your original point. Yep they did renovate Canadian. It's it's been an ongoing thing for years and years now they've taken out a number of seats in the 300 level and put these fan decks in which is very you know very much a term used now like district. Yes.

21:01They're making it a little bit more fan-friendly. Changed all those second level seats. You're right mid-90s. It was Canadian Tire Center was born in 1996. It's it's up there in age. We're talking 30 years now here now but still a very functional facility no question. I mean you know just going back to all the construction in what they want to do. I mean I do think that having a guy like Michael Ann Lauer at the helm is the owner of the sands. I think he's the type of guy that's going to push to make that happen. So I think it's probably you're going to see it happen. You're saying that because you played for him and you like him. Michael Ann Lauer is one of the best guys I know just teasing you. Yeah but he's just a fantastic guy but he really cares about you know the teams that he has and so I could see it happening. With that being said moving back to kind of the roster in the team they have about four four million in cap space and you know if you're looking at this roster you're probably saying okay it's on the cusp of being a playoff team. Do you see them going out and trying to find a free agent right now that could come in to help

22:06that roster you know a little bit more provide some more depth. I mean there's some guys that are that are on the market still. We talked about it earlier in the show like a taras ankle. Abunting. These are guys that have been prominent NHLers that are still looking for homes. Could you see guys like that coming to like a PTO you know one your deal that minimum type situation like where do you see the sands going with their roster. Well general manager Steve Steeve said the other day that he's he's obviously looking every day at the situation and the players who are available and I think as it stands right now he's satisfied with the players and the roster that he looks at when he takes a look at his marker board and behind his desk I think there's in a line combinations that that he feels will work and obviously in conjunction with Travis Green the senators do feel like they are in good shape to make the playoffs they've got a number of core players here who have grown exponentially over the last couple of seasons and certainly the

23:11last two with the playoff experience that was January and and hungry four games sweet loss you're to Carolina but I mean the blueprint that Carolina has with been working on for the last eight years is very similar to what Ottawa is trying to achieve their blueprint very very similar to the Canes it's just two years in the making third year now for Travis Green what this team like another goal score absolutely but the system that Travis has instilled in this group in other words what he's sold to them they have bought and they have bought right in and with the veterans buying in it's an easier transition for the younger players to learn the system and learn the buy-in because the older guys are doing it instinctively which is what we've seen over the years with Carolina's core so I can see a PTO or two coming in if possible but at the same time I think if the

24:12season had to start today the GM would say work quite content and confident that this group can get it done. Gord appreciate the time especially as you go through the renos at your cottage and then there's a renos at Canadian Tire Center and then before you know it in some time you'll be grooving and moving to Dom Dalla in the district at the Britain class like everybody in ice district class weekend. It was loud and a great game. I liked the stadium and came away thinking commonwealth is feeling a little dated thoughts. Yeah, we only have a couple minutes. But spicy Scott commonwealth is dated. It has served a very good purpose. I believe it has the bones to continue on. Does it need some love? Absolutely. Have they done everything that they can to this point to to maintain it and make sure it's you know as up to speed as it can be. Yep. It's a city on facility. You want to talk. Gord was talk about red tape. This red tape when you have a city on facility and you're a tenant of it. I'll be at the main tenant. Yeah. Yeah. Need some love. It really does. And I know that there's probably going to be something down the line. I just don't know what exactly. But I know especially when the Thompson family took over.
