We've got a really exciting show for you today.
We're going to talk about some hidden Hawaii.
Abby Benel, one of the most popular radio personalities in the area,
will be joining us.
Why never put your cell phone in a TSA bin.
I'm announcing I'm moving to Southeast Asian.
I'll tell you why.
Our cruise drink package is really worth it,
and then we're going to go to Alaska,
and we have some exciting new cruises to talk about.
I'd like to welcome in studio,
how do I always introduce you?
The lovely and talented Wendy Farakia Group Department
manage your extraordinaire with Morris Columbus Travel.
And thank you so much.
I will take all that praise.
Well, how was that for an introduction?
That was wonderful.
You know, I love Hawaii.
My first trip to Hawaii was when I was 16 years old.
I've told it's more.
Yeah. Why didn't we meet up on Waikiki?
I was a surfer boy growing up in San Francisco,
cutting school, driving with my buddies down to Santa Cruz,
surfing steamers lane.
And I was never a great surfer, but I was okay.
I was a sunbather.
So yeah, our past would not have crossed.
Were you staring at me as I'd strut along the beach?
Maybe.
I'll say maybe.
You'd say, is there anything?
There is no guarantee.
Is there anything to stare at?
I was photographed a lot, really.
Oh, I'm sure.
I had a bitch in my bathing suit as the before picture
for the gym.
Anyway, this is a true number.
I've kept track.
I have been to Hawaii 170 times.
And if I go to a Wahoo Maui in Kauaii 3 Islands, it counts as one.
Years ago, I've been in the travel industry 48 times.
And I went to Hawaii many times before I ever was working.
But there were several years where I was commuting once or twice a week.
We did so much business when I was playing rugby for BYU.
I played varsity rugby for the Y for three years.
We had a road trip.
Now, that was a fun road trip with two games in Hawaii.
And the university was paying for it.
That's when you knew your path.
That's that's right.
Well, I've got a unique Hawaii experience.
I want to show you my Hawaii.
You have been so excited since you found this cruise.
You were like, I think you danced into the office.
I did.
I did a couple of twirls.
A little, a little, um, uh, that's right.
Just a little, uh, this with royal Caribbean, the Anthem of the Seas.
Now, that is a over the top great ship.
Oh, yeah.
It really is one of my fate.
In fact, uh, in travel weekly, which is one of the industry magazines
for travel professionals, it was voted, uh, best cruise line overall
in the reader's choice awards, focusing, of course,
including the anthem of the Seas.
So what we're going to do, we're going to sail Hawaiian islands
and then head to the West Coast, Vancouver.
It's a nine day cruise April 29 to May 7.
It's a repositioning cruise.
So we visit and you know what that means.
Yeah, that means cheap, cheap value.
That's right.
We'll visit a Wahoo Honolulu, the big island Kailua Kona.
I love the Kailua Kona coast there.
And then out into the vast reaches of the Pacific Ocean to Vancouver.
Now, this is a nine day cruise and because it's been down in the, in Sydney.
It's been sailing out of Sydney, Australia.
It's headed north and it stops in Hawaii.
Continues on to Vancouver and then does the winter.
It starts the Alaska season.
And by the way, you could sail on this nine day cruise.
And then add Alaska.
If you wanted, stay in the same cabin,
soon ship pack unpack, just stay there.
So for the Hawaii Honolulu to Vancouver,
Hawaii to the West Coast, April 29 to May 7.
Next year, 2027,
raid start at just $845, including all taxes.
Yeah, that's your outdoor.
Now what you want to do,
I mean, you can fly over there and just go straight to the ship.
But why spend a few days, a week, two weeks,
whatever you want, spend some time in Hawaii and then jump on the ship.
I love those lazy days at sea.
You can be as active or as laid back.
Now, Kathy and I will be personally hosting this.
We'll have our own private shore excursions
and we'll have exclusive onboard seminars.
One thing, I haven't got the permission yet,
but we have requested to show the movie
forever strong in the big theater.
Have you seen that one before?
It's a great movie.
Okay, I've heard of it.
Yeah, it's a great movie that, you know,
the real-life character is questionable,
but no, it's a great, but and have a seminar.
I'll be talking about how to develop a championship attitude.
When I retired from coaching the Highland Rugby team in 2011,
became a man of the cloth for three years
in the California Fresno mission,
our varsity record is 418 wins
and just 10 losses in 36 years,
including 20 national championships.
I'm going to talk about how to develop a championship attitude.
Very similar, I was contracted by the Houston Astros,
Major League Baseball.
After they won the World Series.
Was that before you got into the Hall of Fame?
Yes, it was.
Oh, thank you for yes.
Two years ago, I got inducted into the U.S.
Rugby Hall of Fame.
I can't forget that.
I know a person in the Hall of Fame.
That's right.
And I like to remind my kids about that.
But anyway, so you know,
we're going to have these onboard discussions.
So I was with the Houston Astros for two days
in their March spring training
few years back after they won the World Series.
And I coached them for two days,
for two hours a day on championship attitudes.
Anyway, April 9th.
And I'm going to do that on board.
We're going to have so much fun.
845 bucks.
I mean, shut the front door.
That's an inside cabin.
An ocean view with a picture window
is 975 and catch this a balcony.
A thousand 88 for a nine-day cruise.
You know what you could say down on the balcony.
And you could see if you can see any of the whales.
Actually, I think I'd be looking for sharks.
But have you ever done that?
Have you ever looked at the odds of the back of the ship
and watched this for the sharks?
But if you want to see the whales,
watch for me in the buffet.
At the buffet.
Yes, I knew that.
You've probably read where
there's been a lot of rain in Hawaii.
They called it the Kona Storms.
So I've got some ideas.
I actually called my nephew.
He and his family are over there in Honolulu.
Or they were last week.
And they have some young kids.
And they didn't know what to do.
So I've got some suggestions on fun things to do
on a rainy day in Honolulu.
Assuming you're staying in the Waikiki area.
You don't need a rental car.
They've got the bus.
And that's the name the bus.
Two bucks you can go anywhere on the island.
The Waikiki Aquarium has over 500 marine animals on display
with a special focus on the marine life
and species found in the Hawaiian waters
and the South Pacific.
Now, for kids more elementary and junior high,
they have the Hawaii Children's Discovery Center.
And it's kind of a hands-on experience.
It's lots of fun.
I also like the Alamoana Shopping Center.
You can take the bus down there.
And they have over 340 stores.
It's covered.
But you know what I like is the food court.
This place is massive.
I think there's 3 million restaurants in the food court.
Well, maybe not that many.
But it's, it's just a massive.
You've got the Honlulu Museum of Art.
Two places that I really recommend.
But it's not for the young kids.
Is the Bishop Museum.
It's the history, culture, and natural world of Hawaii
and the Pacific in an extensive museum dedicated to Oceana.
And of course, the centerpiece is the Hawaiian Hall.
It's a three-story collection
of native Hawaiian artifacts.
The Ilani Palace was the only royal palace
in the United States.
And the opulence of the throne room
where Hawaii's kings and queens would meet people,
rivals the great thrones of Europe.
One more is Pearl Harbor.
And if you get out there a rainy day,
you're going to get a little bit wet out on the Arizona.
Don't buy a tour to Pearl Harbor.
Go on the Navy launch.
It's free.
It's the only one that actually puts you out
on the pavilion above the.
Really? I didn't know that.
The other ones where you buy a tour,
circle the Arizona,
the Navy tour you get right out there.
And also next to Pearl Harbor is the Bofish Submarine,
which was a World War II attack.
And the USS Missouri,
where the Japanese surrender took place.
So lots of things to do.
When we come back, I'm going to tell you how to get
2,500 free delta sky miles.
And you don't have to buy anything.
Welcome back to the travel show.
Thank you for joining us.
I look forward to every weekend with you Saturday mornings.
And we have a lot of fun, don't we?
I'm Larry Gellwicks, the Getaway Guru.

Wendy, nice to have you here.

I am so proud of my department.
I just, and thank you for acknowledging all the different tour hosts.

Good dinner, too.
You know what?
I had to splurge and just make sure that they knew how much that we love them.
Because they are the heart and soul.
I mean, the tour and the travel experience is fantastic.
They're the ones like when you take out a group,
they're the ones who are making sure everybody's having a fantastic trip.

I'm so proud of our team and our tour leader.

Run a business and not thinking about radio?
Think again.
Because more people are listening to the radio and iHard today
than they were 20 years ago.
And only iHard broadcast radio connects with more Americans
than TV, digital, social, any other media.
Even twice as many teens than TikTok.
And that reach means everything.
Just think about the universal marketing formula.
The number of consumers who hear your message
times the response rate equals the results.
Now let's get those results growing for your business.
Radio's here now more than ever.
And iHard's leading the way.
Think radio can help your business.
Think iHard.
Streaming, podcasting, and radio.
Where the reach is real.
Let us show you at iHardAdvertising.com.
That's iHardAdvertising.com.
Or call 844-844-iHard.
One more time.
Just call 844-844-iHard.
And get radio working for you.
Well, I've talked about this before.
2500 free delta sky miles with delta's 20 minute baggage rule,
which means that if your bag is not delivered from the plane
to the carousel within 20 minutes on a domestic arrival,
they can't do international because because immigration
or customs can hold it up.
Right.
But 20 minutes, you get 2500 free delta sky miles.
But you have to apply for it.
And just go to delta.com and in the search bar type 20 minute baggage.
And it'll come up.
You have to apply for it.
You put in your name.
You have to be a sky miles member.
You wouldn't have enough time to get signed up.
And the city's involved.
And keep everything you need to apply is on your boarding pass.
And I've said before, never throw your boarding passes away.
That is such a great tip.
Such a great tip.
So what the rule changes from delta is we had three days
after a delayed bag.
So today is Saturday.
If my bag was delayed today, I have until Monday to apply.
Well, that's changed.
And I don't like the change.
You don't like change in general, Larry.
Delta is a great airline.
But I keep seeing changes that I think diminish the customer experience.
They re-did their sky miles and medallion promotions, not for the better.
And now you have two hours to apply.
And then it's zippo.
So you're going to have to do it on your cell phone.
You have to be a sky miles member.
I and I watch what time it's from door open.
I was going to say, so do you start your timer the minute the door opens?
So if you're back at the last row of the plane,
that's okay.
That's when the door opens.
But if you don't have the exact time, when you get to the luggage carousel,
you'll see delta dl, say one, two, three from Los Angeles,
but you'll see what time it arrived.
And on my last flight, coming in from LA,
I was watching it, watching it.
And we parked in terminal two, which is halfway to aug.
You know, and I'm thinking, yeah, because about half the time,
if I'm in terminal two, it doesn't, it gets there at 22 minutes.
I have raked in so many free sky miles,
but I'm watching it, watching it.
It's now 19 minutes and the bag comes out.
And there it is.
I was happy to have my bag, but I wanted the 25.
Is it your piece of luggage or the first piece of luggage?
No, yours, yours.
Okay, so if yours get taken off last then.
And I get that, I get that special tag because of my medallion status,
but maybe I should wait for the bag to come out late.
Anyway, that's it.
Hey, did you hear that the Salt Lake City International Airport
has been rated number one in the United States?
And it's really thanks to punctuality, a beautiful new airport.
It scored the top spot in the air help 2025 air help is a,
they rate airports and it's objective.
They don't sell you anything.
You can subscribe to them, but they look at everything from service to
on time, performance to flight compensation, all of these things.
And they rate the best airports in the world and the best airports in the
United States.
And Salt Lake International came out number one.
And it came out
number eight worldwide.
So here is, now, I got to tell you, I don't agree with their number two.
Number one in the US is Salt Lake City International.
Number two is LAX.
I don't like LAX.
I think this guy was smoking something before he's from LAX.
But, but all of the metrics they look at, number three was Minneapolis.
That's a nice airport.
I like Minneapolis very much.
You know, if you're flying to LAX on Delta and changing planes to Delta,
it is a breeze, same with say United or American because you stay in the same terminal.
But if you have to walk outside and go over to the Bradley International terminal,
that's a pain in the backside.
However, most of Delta's international flights depart from terminals two and three,
which are the Delta terminals, those that don't from Bradley, they have a bus inside security.
So you don't have to go outside again.
And that's such a big deal.
And then you get your boarding pass if it hasn't been, it should have already been issued.
But you don't have to go through security again.
Now, anyway, congratulations, Salt Lake City Airport.
And you know, I agree with all that, but I've told you what my biggest, my one biggest complaint
about Salt Lake is me.
No, they don't have any kids play dedicated play areas for people with long connections.
Hey, we have a very special guest coming.
The lovely and talented Abby Benel, a well-known radio host and personality talking about England,

Now, I should say it's a jolly good show today.
It is a jolly good one.
Sholly good one.
Sholly good one.
Rip roaring.
I like, you know that Wendy Frackie, a group department managers here.
I'd like to welcome one of my dearest friends in the world, Abby Benel,
a well-known radio personality here in the great state of Utah.
Abby, welcome back to The Travel Show.
I just wandered down the corridor from the news department,
and I was thrilled a bit.
So the travel show is in residence.
The Royal Flag is flying above the studio today.
So thank you for inviting me, I really appreciate it.
Well, you grew up in England, jolly old England,
and we're going to talk about the We Village Audlem a bit later in this segment.
But, you know, you and I have talked for years, Abby, that there is a connection,
you know, in politics they call it special relationship.
But what is the appeal, the allure of the UK united kingdom with Americans?
Why is it that we're so drawn to the UK?
Well, I think a lot of heritage with Americans who moved here, you know,
centuries ago, over 200 years ago, and they, I always hear it,
because I'll say, all I'm caught as Scottish, or I'm half Welsh,
or I'm full-blooded English, you know, and so I think this is just this fascination.
I think we all want to know where we came from.
And if you haven't got any stock, well, it's one of those countries
that you look at and go, I would really love to visit there.
Because it's steeped in culture, and heritage, and craggy coastlines,
and long sandy beaches, and island lifestyle, which is remarkable,
just really just sitting off France.
Or in a beautiful spot in the world, that food do not knock it.
It's all changed.
That was a different century when we had just boiled potatoes with butter in
and a piece of a slab of beef.
We do a far better now, we have cosmopolitan, you know,
beautiful foods in all the major cities,
because we've had so much culture and influence from other nations too.
You know, what isn't there to like about beautiful Britain?
There's a thousand plus years of heritage, and you just,
you just walked past it and gaze upon it,
and the beautiful landscapes that you see as you drive through the British Isles.
Well, you know, speaking of food, it used to be, say,
that the British, the best British food was Indian or Italian,
but it's changed. It's a wonderful place.
I like the pop culture.
Can I just go there with all the, no, I like the music that has come out of the UK.
I'm one of those people who love to follow the British royalty.
Now, I'm not like crazy about it,
but I would absolutely geek out over some of the experiences that you shared
that you've had on tour with people.
Well, I've walked into royalty with two lovely sisters from Idaho,
who came on one of my trips,
and we were sort of lolligacking behind the rest,
and everybody was holly rude in Edinburgh.
And that is the home of the Royal Family when they visit Scotland.
And I saw the royal standard flag flying like it is over this studio today.
And I said, that's special.
Somebody's here from the Royal Family from London.
And so the ladies hung back and I said,
stay with me here because there's two big BMWs.
That's security right there.
That's probably MI5.
And the next thing Princess Anne walks out looking absolutely superb.
That is the Queen's only daughter,
hardest working member of the family,
a real treat and a treasure to the British people who love the royal family.
And I waived.
I started waving.
I was by the fountain.
And she waved back.
And then the two lovely sisters said,
Oh, is that it?
I said, Princess Anne.
I said, take photos, take photos right now.
Anyway, she got in the BMW.
And I waved again.
And she was waving out the window.
She drove off.
I said, dear, just saw the Princess of Wales.
That's fantastic.
I mean, sorry, Princess Anne.
No, remarkable woman.
Now, one of the real pleasures of having a friendship with you

Back to the UK this September, September 9th
of the 19th, this year, 11 days, 10 nights,
England, Wales, and Scotland.
Just a couple of teasers.
I mean, we'll start in London.
Yes.
And do mention Audlem.
I will.
And the things that happen there.
I'm going to make it really fast.
So we're going to show you all of the best of London,
incredible sites.
We stay in Kensington.
It doesn't get nice in that.
Princess Diana's favorite spot.
She used to live there.
Wonderful place.
Great hotel.
Then we're going to spend a couple of nights there.
Of course, we have welcome dinners.
We have incredible tours.
You will love it down the terms you name it.
Then we're going to go after Blen in Palace,
which is where Winston Churchill was born.
Incredible Palace.
Great gardens.
Fantastic cafe.
I love it there.
And then we're going to head into the Cotswells
in sort of like the heart of Britain.
And you're seeing all this countryside
just darting by outside this, you know, coaches window.
Now, we often hear the term the Cotswells.
For our listeners, what is the Cotswells?
It's like the cover of a chocolate box.
It's packed rooms.
It's limestone walls.
Lovely little rivers and streams.
Yikes.
Oh, villages.
And some of the village names.
Boughton on the water.
We have, I mean, that's where we're going to go.
And they call it the little Venice
because it runs with low bridges that you would just walk over.
No barriers or anything.
So don't fall in.
There's lots of ducks.
Not very deep.
You're all right.
But we're there for lunch, basically.
And then we scoot off to Chester.
Chester is famous in all of Europe.
It's one of the best examples of a Roman walled city.
2,000 years old.
And all the chewed buildings are on the insides of the wall
with all the shops.
It's pedestrianized.
It's a fabulous environment on the border of Wales.
And the next day, we go to Snowden, which is National Snowden.
Your pictures and their are fantastic.
I just, I love it.
I went to university very close to there at Bangas.
So this is why I love going there.
There's a rack and pinion train we take.
And it's up to the top of the mountain.
And we get spectacular views, even a violent on a good day.
And then we go to my village, which is incredible.
The following day, with all of the American flags out,
it was built in the 11th century and it's marvelous.
Talk about the very, you've done this to a couple of times before.
The first tour would tell us what happened
when the bus rolled into this wee village.
I was shocked.
They had all, they had American flags out.
The people lined the street.
Yeah, that village.
They were waiting at the toilet.
They were so excited.
They think of a victory day after World War II.
Everyone shaking these little handheld flights.
They did.
That's what they did.
And my best school friend, who's family's own
the same shop in the center of the village for virtually 200 years now.
If you can believe that, Judy McCalvie.
She is there.
She's greeting everybody.
She just loves everyone.
It's a shop that sells everything from fire lighters to a stuffed toy.
And a tea towel.
You get a good tea towel there.
Oh, and great cards as well.
Then we go to a beautiful pub, Burley Dam.
Ancient for an incredible lunch.
They never take large groups.
And this is excellent.
But they take yours.
They absolutely do.
It's our favorite pub.
And it's beautiful.
Wait till you see it.
It's nothing like you imagine.
I promise the food is great.
And then we go to Scotland, Edinburgh, which is our final stop.
We see all the tours we do, Loch Ness.
And Loch Ness.
Have you seen Delay?
Have you seen Delay?
Many times.
Thank you.
I'm getting bored.
Is that after a glass of wine?
A couple.
Yes.
So that would be our trip.
And it's coming up.
And we have just a few places left.
We do.
We only have 10 spots left on your tour.
Yeah.
It has gotten to that point.
It's not one that you're going to do again next year.
No.
And it is going to be just a very special experience.
Well, that is Abby Benel.
England Wales in Scotland, September 9th to the 19th.
This year, 11 days, 10 nights with Abby.
And other local guides as your special tour host.
We are speaking with Abby Benel, a well-known radio
personality here in Utah.
Now, I just heard that the two of you
are in cahoots and are planning another trip,
but it's a cruise with Abby.
It is, Abby.
I'm so excited.
I'm just going to say, do you want to say it or should I?
No, you do it.
You planned it.
I'm just going along for the ride.
You know what?
So next year, we've been doing this tour with Abby
for several years and it's fantastic.
And it is just amazing.
But Abby, you had said, I really
want to go and experience Ireland.
Wendy, do you think we're ever going
to be able to add Ireland to this itinerary?
And so we've looked at a couple of different things.
And so when I was talking to Abby,
I'm like, what would you think of getting on a cruise ship
and doing a British Isles cruise?
And what did you say?
Yes, please.
It's so exciting.
I saw this itinerary and everybody I've shown.
And it's only public.
This is the first time we've actually discussed it really.
Literally breaking news.
Everybody I have shown, but friends in TV and radio,
I want to go.
I want to go.
It's going to be next June, actually May 31st.
We fly from Salt Lake City to London, two nights in London.
We're going to get all of the tours there
before we get on board our cruise.
We are with Norwegian cruise line
around the Norwegian star.
And do you want to?
Then we head up.
We're going to go, I've never done this.
Most people in Britain have never done it.
Go around the whole of the British Isles.
We head up to Edinburgh.
We dock in Edinburgh.
We have a tour of Edinburgh.
You go around the Highlands of Scotland
for the very tippy, tippy top of Scotland.
All the way down to the west coast and the high of sky.
I can't even make it to tell you how beautiful this place is.
I used to go as a child with my parents, with Tammy Shanta's
and we loved it.
It's so beautiful.
And then we're going to come further on down the coastline
to Liverpool, Northern Ireland, Southern Ireland,
down into Dorset on the...
Well, you know, all of the...
It was just a remarkable...
Dorset is beautiful, can I say.
When do you finish it up?
Well, I was just going to say one of the things
that I love so much about this is our pricing
includes the two-night pre-tour in London.
Especially when you're starting a cruise internationally,
you never want to get there on the day of embarkation.
You can't risk that delay in missing your ship.
So we went ahead and packaged it
with the two nights in London.
We are going to do a full day touring
so you see the London highlights.
One of the things I love about this cruise
being round trip out of London is
we've got the non-stop service on Delta.
And then we're going to have the private excursions
that we're going to be offering just for our group.
And it's just going to be phenomenal.
I can't even imagine how...
You know, I'm really glad the London is included.
Samuel Johnson, perhaps Britain's greatest man of letters,
made a statement that's attributed to Winston Churchill,
but Samuel Johnson said it,
when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life.
Good line.
I love London.
You know what though?
I think the thing is many people have been there
or if you haven't been there,
we're going to make sure you see the highlights.
If you've been there before,
you can either do the highlights or go off and do your shopping,
go to the theater, go and...
It's just we're really going to make this
appeasing to everybody.
And it's just going to be a lot of fun
because if you don't know Abby yet,
she is going to be your best friend
because when Larry said she was his best friend,
I got a little jealous.
Oh, Dublin Island Court, Blanney Castle Liverpool.
We've got to see all islands guy.
Fantastic.
We're speaking with Abby Bonnell,
who will be taking the England Wales and Scotland turn,
we'll be highlighting that.
And then again, this new cruise,
I didn't even know about till today.
Niner, Niner.
Abby, thank you for joining us.
My pleasure.
And when we come back,
why you should never put your mobile phone in a TSA bin.
Welcome back to the Travel Show.
I'm Larry Gilwicks,
the Getaway Guru joined by Wendy Fracier,
Group Department Manager at Morris, Columbus Travel, and Wendy.
How much fun was Abby?
She's always so much fun.
Can you just imagine being on a tour in her home country,
England, and joining Wales and Scotland,
and having Abby there with you?
Well, all you have to do is listen to her
and know the energy and the passion that she has
and what is, it's so authentic and real
and it's exactly what you get when you travel.
She is authentic.
She is real.
There's no put on with this woman.
And she loves sharing with people.
That's the thing.
It's fantastic.
Well, again, that's Abby Bennell
with her England Wales and Scotland this September the 9th
to the 19th.
You can get the details at Morris Columbus.com.
Scroll up or down.
We haven't figured out what that means yet.
To Morris Murdoch, escorted tours,
click on England, go to September of this year,
get all the details.
It's absolutely fabulous.
And when will we see the cruise up on the website?
This next Monday, it is going to be there.
You'll see all the information about the ship
and it's an absolute promise.
So very, very good.
Now, as we travel, I strongly suggest that you never,
I never do this, but I suggest that you never put your cell phone,
your mobile device in the TSA bin
where you put your jacket and your belt and stuff.
Well, be careful with your jacket, too.
I told you my sad story of losing my favorite sweater.
That's right.
Never came out of the machine.
It fits me well.
You know, that was years ago.
I do not go through TSA where I do not look
for my sweater to come out.
Well, phones, cameras.
Well, I see people throwing their wallet in there
are the most vulnerable during airport security
when items are separated into bins.
Now, I recommend that place value, valuables
in the zippered pockets of your carry on.
Everybody has a carry on.
Or your purse, zip the purse.
Or the jacket.
Or yes, I put it in my jacket so you can zip it.
Just don't leave it out.
It reduces theft and forgetfulness.
Now, the other thing is travel should pay attention
at the belt gathering items during the extra screening process.
You and I were talking off in between and I said,
sometimes you get just the random extra screening
or your buckle, belt buckle, set it off.
And you have to get the hand wand or something like that.
Always face the conveyor belt.
You never want to turn it back.
Now, there are thieves out there
who are watching that sort of thing.
But a lot of it's just forgetfulness.
I have a friend of ours of Kathy and I.
She had a 3,400 pair of diamond earrings stolen out of her.
And it was just in the small bags.
You know, it didn't say somebody stole it.
They actually think it was TSA.
I don't want to put the blame on them
because somebody had to get in their bag.
It was in the bag.
Yeah, somebody had to see it.
Anyway, you know, a couple of things.
Veronica Romaine was on a trip and her camera was stolen
while going through security.
She took her eye off the bin when she went to it
because there's the line to go through the metal detector.
Her carry on was there, but her camera was not.
Put the camera in the bag.
Alyssa Nelson had even more unsettling experience
at the Jacksonville airport a few years ago.
After clearing security, she realized her phone was missing.
When she returned to the checkpoint,
she went to the agent of her line
and he told her no phones were left behind.
She peeked over the agent's shoulder
and spotted it in a bin, tucked to the side
and she demanded that agent or somebody
took the whole bin and tucked to the side
with her phone in it.
She demanded it back and fortunately she got it.
Now, one thing you can do with smartphones
is on my Apple Watch, I can just say where is my phone?
And that wonderful little ping right there.
Let's do that again.
This is what you'll hear.
If you want to know where your phone is,
I just tap this.
I tap this.
Show me again.
All right.
Tap what?
And that's my phone.
Maybe you lost it on the plane, tap that
and you'll know where it is.
The other thing I really like are the Apple luggage tags.
You can put it in your carry.
I always put it in my suitcase
and I'm flying to Tim Buck too
and I'm changing planes in Hong Kong or something.
I pull it up at every stop.
Where is my suitcase?
Is it at the airport that I'm at
even though we're overseas?
And we know that Apple is trying to take over the world
but I am an Android user
and I can tell you that there are other devices
that work exactly the same on an Android.
I personally have a tile.
It's just T-I-L-E is the brand that I use
and it works exactly the same as an air tag.
So air tag is going to be like Coke
but you really just want to soda.
And you know the message here is be careful.
It's 100%.
It's an attentive, be alert.
Use technology.
Thaft happens.
And forgetfulness happens.
Well, you're so chaotic when you're traveling.
Yep.

Run a business and not thinking about radio?
Think again.
Because more people are listening to the radio
and IHART today than they were 20 years ago.
And only IHART broadcast radio
connects with more Americans than TV, digital, social,
any other media.
Even twice as many teens than TikTok.
And that reach means everything.
Just think about the universal marketing formula.
The number of consumers who hear your message
times the response rate equals the results.
Now let's get those results growing for your business.
Radio's here now more than ever.
And IHART's leading the way.
Think radio can help your business.
Think IHART.
Streaming, podcasting, and radio, where the reach is real.
Let us show you at iHARTadvertising.com.
That's iHARTadvertising.com.
Or call 844-844-iHART.
One more time.
Just call 844-844-iHART.

Hey, when we come back at our number two, it happened again.
You will not believe.
I promise you will not believe what Hertz did to one of their
presidents, circle.
That's the highest level members.
And I'm going to tell you why I want to move to Southeast Asia
when we come back on the travel show.
Welcome back to our number two of the travel show, the best two hours in radio.
I'm Larry Gellwicks, the Getaway Guru, and the travel show is sponsored by the Travel
Experts at Morris Columbus Travel, where you always travel more and pay less.
Check out their website, morriscolumbus.com.
That's morriscolumbus.com.

Well, Hertz has done it again.
I reported some time ago about a problem that a renter of a car from Hertz had.
This renter, it was at, in Los Angeles, had a Tesla Model 3.
Now Tesla is an electric car.
And when he turned it in, he was charged almost $300, $277 and 39 cents for not filling
up with gas.
Well, a Tesla, there's no place to put the gas and there's no fuel tank on the Tesla
electric vehicle.
But they said, well, you didn't take the prepaid fuel option.
Well, there is no fuel.
And so when this customer complained, I'm going to read you the response that he got.
Now he was a member of their high-level renters, the president's circle.
This is what I can't do this without laughing.
This is what Hertz replied to his complaint.
It was, I am unable to provide an adjustment or refund since the service was provided
in the contract is closed.
Your signed rental agreement will also be our basis that you are fully aware of the
fuel option that was added to your contract.
I hope I was able to clarify this for you.
Thank you for allowing me to review and assist you with your concern.
Have you ever heard such BS in your entire life?
Oh my gosh.
So he's got an electric vehicle.
It happened again to another renter, an electric vehicle that gets hit with a fuel charge
for not filling up the electric car with gas.
So just be careful.
Just be careful out there.
That's a good one.
Hey, are you a school teacher?
Do you know a school teacher?
Norwegian Cruise Line has a special school teachers and staff members at the school.
Whatever discounts are out there available, you can take advantage of them.
And then on all qualifying cruises, they'll give you an extra 5% off the cruise fare.
And this discounts to everyone in the state room.
They'll also give you a $50 on board credit to spend how you want.
It's good for just about anything, but the casino.
It is combinable with the Moritzi promotion, which has unlimited open bar specialty
nining free Wi-Fi and more.
That's with Norwegian Cruise Line.
And I have found that the other cruise lines are doing similar with teachers and for our
military service members, both active and retired after a career in the military.
Well, am I going to be moving?
I sure some days I really want to.
You know how much I love Southeast Asia.
Everything about it, the people, the culture, the safety, the food, oh my gosh, don't even
get me started on the food.
I would probably live in Thailand or Vietnam.
Thailand, probably my first choice.
I love Cambodia.
I love Laos.
I travel there all the time.
You know, some of my favorite Thai foods and this is how I measure a Thai restaurant if
it's any good.
They're Pad Thai.
That's a noodle dish.
The different coconut curries, very, very different from India.
Kapal.
That's one of my favorite.
Take pork or chicken and chop it up like it's minced.
No think of like hamburger taco meat.
They just chop it up and then they stir fry it with sweet basil and steamed rice on the
side.
And it's really authentic.
It has a fried egg on top of the steam rice cow soy, which is a northern chicken dish.
Oh, mango and sticky rice, don't even get me started.
You know what's great about the mangoes in Southeast Asia is they are ripe year round.
Yes, we are in the tropics.
But you know, as a traveler, there's tourists and travelers and they're both wonderful.
A tourist is more, I'm going to go to Waikiki for a week.
I'm going to go to Cancun for a week and just kind of sit at the resort.
Nothing wrong with that.
It's wonderful.
But a traveler, as opposed to a tourist, is looking for experiences, something unique,
a bit more immersion in the culture, more flexible, adapting to local customs, engaging
more with the locals.
That is what it travels.
I'd like to think I am a traveler.
And I've told you stories living with my friend Leti Saeili in Le Fonga, Samoa sleeping
on the floor in a grass hut, all of these different things.
I want to talk a little bit about Vietnam.
Now, maybe the number one festival there in Vietnam, and Vietnam is a wonderful country.
And the food is absolutely fantastic.
You've got some good Vietnamese restaurants here in Utah.
Perhaps my favorite Vietnamese food in no particular order is fa.
It's written P-H-O.
It's not poo.
You're not eating poo.
You're eating fa.
And that is a noodle soup with vegetables and meat and is absolutely flavorful.
Then you have banh mi, which is a sandwich, and the key to the sandwich is the French
roll.
That it comes with spring rolls, now some from the north are deep fried and crispy.
But I like the ones.
I like them all.
But I like the ones from the south where it's fresh rice paper with pork and vermicelli
and vegetables and shrimp.
And then boon, which is rice noodles with vegetables, meat, and rice is so much fun.
One interesting thing they have in Vietnam.
It's called the Love Market Festival.
It's observed to commemorate a tragic love story and gives ex lovers a chance to meet
in a neutral territory or location.
I'd love to take you with me to Southeast Asia on, and I'm going to do it.
You can join me this November with Alma waterways, the absolute over the top deluxe river
cruise company.
We sail on the mighty Maekong River through Cambodia and to Vietnam, Kathy and I are
going to Thailand early.
Some other people do that.
We can make individual arrangements for you.
We have a pre-cruise option in Cambodia and CN Reap to see anchor what, anchor Tom, all
of these things.
You see the movie Tomb Raiders when Angelia Jolie runs out of that door at the temple?
We go right to that spot.
You can have your picture taken.
We get to Named Pin, the capital.
We get to the small villages where tourists absolutely never go.
A private meeting with the Buddhist monastery and a special blessing from them, into Vietnam
we end in Ho Chi Minh City, which we remember as Saigon.
And you can either go straight to the airport or join me in Kathy for a couple of days
and seeing Saigon is a beautiful city with a French accent to it.
We see the Maekong River and Delta.
And then one of the highlights are the Kucchi Tunnel, CU, CHI.
It's a tunnel network largely settled in the Kucchi district of Ho Chi Minh City.
It was dug during the Vietnam War by the Viet Cong and that's how they, without anybody
knowing it, went everywhere where we go visit those, it's absolutely fascinating.
The culture, the people, the food, alma waterways is over the top deluxe.
I will be your personal host and tour guide along with my lovely wife, Kathy.
Then that's supplemented by local guides.
We've got three cabins left.
And we, what you know we did, we actually went in and bought the cabins.
It's called inventory risk.
I'll give you an example.
Our discounts range anywhere from about $700 to $1,500, $2,000 per cabin.
Rate started just $29.99, subject to availability because I'm announcing it.
You know, last week I talked about these and bam, we sold a bunch of cabins.
So it's right now, the best fare is $29.99 and then you've got what, $250 or something
like that in Port Texas.
I'd love to have you join me, contact Morris Columbus Travel, Morris Columbus Travel, your
favorite travel advisor or contact the group department direct for the riches of the
May Kong and we'll go have some fa, ban me and boon.
We'll go have that together.
Hey, when we come back in our next segment here, you know, all the cruises offer drink
packages.
Are they really worth it?
Is it a good value?
I'm going to uncover the mystery behind them.

Welcome back to the travel show.
Maybe I should say, Sin Chao, the local greeting in Vietnam.
I really would love to have you join me on the riches of the Maycon.
I mentioned we're going in November.
The actual cruise dates are November 9 to 16 this year, November 9 to 16.
Now you want to come early and see anchor watt.
And if you've seen it before, just come the day before the cruise.
If you haven't seen it, one of the great wonders of the world, anchor Tom, Tom Lapsop Lake,
the city on Stilts in the middle of the lake, of course, anchor watt, did you know there's
over 800 temples of the Kimmer Empire in the greater area.
They've only uncovered 200.
They know where the other 600 are.
But it takes time and money.
Anchor watt never was overgrown by the jungle, never fell in a disrepair.
It's been construction started in the ninth century and it's been a working temple since
about the 12th century.
Started out as Hindu there in CNREAP Cambodia and later became a Buddhist.
I'd love to have you join me again, the actual cruise dates, November 9 to 16 this year with
rate starting at just $29.99, buying it direct from Amma for that cabins about another
$800 per person.
That's what you say.
Well, you know, if you've been on a cruise or ocean cruise, they're always offering you
a drink package.
Is it really worth it?
Well, the price will vary depending on who you're sailing with, where you're going,
what you want originally, it was all drinks alcohol and non-alcohol, which I call let it
and unleaded.
And then they found that there were people who didn't want to pay for alcohol.
So now you often see for with alcohol the premium drinks.
And then you have what's called the well drinks that's a standard brand.
The premium or an upscaled brand of alcohol plus all the cocktails, soft drinks, all of
those things.
And that can run you anywhere from, you know, $50 to $70, $80 a day plus an 18% gratuity.
Now that just ranges where it really is.
So then you have the alcohol free package and those prices have been coming down.
Now you know, I talked about the spring break escape cruise, April six to the 10th of
five day cruise.
We have a wonder, we have over 90 people on that one on a Morris Columbus travel show listeners
group.
And Royal Caribbean, it's a five day cruise round trip out of LA over spring break.
And it's good for couples and families, great itinerary passport, not required.
Now isn't that interesting.
So they offered a soda only package about a week ago that Kathy and I bought, usually
we don't buy them.
I throw a 12 pack in my suitcase.
Royal Caribbean allows you to bring 12 cans of soda on.
They don't count and we usually take a 12 pack and just put it in our suitcase.
You don't want to carry that on, but put it in your suitcase.
They're cool with that.
And then as you know, after we've had a few cans of Diet Coke, we go to them.
The local market will buy a bag of maybe two or three drinks.
We keep it stocked that way and it saves a ton of money.
However, on this special for a five day cruise, they only charge you for four, because
the fifth day you're getting off, it was 13 bucks, 13 bucks a day plus their mandatory
gratuity.
So you know, just for convenience, we bought it, generally speaking for alcohol drinkers,
you have to drink about eight drinks a day just to break even as opposed to buying them
individually.
That's a lot of drinks.
You'll be well greased for your cruise.
And some people go more, I know carnival cruise line, you know, they swipe your card, even
when you have the drink package, they cap your drinks per day at 13.
You can't have more than 13 drinks a day.
That's a lot of alcohol.
Well, on Diet Coke, I can overdose on that one, all that I want.
But you know, we bought it because it was convenient.
We've got all of our kids, all of our grandkids coming with us.
That was their Christmas present at Christmas of December, 2024, is this spring break cruise.
Kathy Knight popped for the cruise.
We said, you get yourself down to the port of LA, which is really San Pedro, California.
We'll pay for the cruise.
We'll pay for the taxes.
You just get yourself there.
You can drive down park.
You can park at San Pedro and maybe depending on where you park, but at the closest spot
of private parking lot, you could be out of your car and checking in within 60 seconds.
That's how close it is.
It's off the main road.
And right next to us, the USS Iowa, which was a destroyer used in World War II.
Anyway, I think the drink package is convenience rather than value.
And that's what it is.
Typically, if you want to Diet Coke, it's going to run you about $3.50, including the
gratuity per drink.
So I'm going to have to drink about four Diet Cokes a day.
I don't know if I will, but it really does make it very, very easy to get along.
Okay, we talked about that.
It was an absolutely amazing.
One of the things I would like to reinforce is secret airfares.
Now secret airfares are unpublished airfares that only a handful of tour operators have.
Airlines know how many people, they estimate how many people will be on a flight absent
of a cancel flight or whether something like that on any given flight.
Delta knows on April 15th, the 12 noon flight Salt Lake to LX, they know within a couple
of points how many people will airlines contract with tour operators.
And as far as I know, Morris Columbus is the only such tour operator with domestic and
international, their own contracts are not buying it from a third party that have these,
but you can't sell air only.
When we come back, I want to tell you about Hawaii and Mexico, I'll give you one example
of how Morris Columbus travel has used secret airfares to cancun at a five star over the
top deluxe that will save $446 per person, $892 per couple, as if you bought all the components
individually.
That's what secret airfares do.
More when we come back, yeah, with secret airfares to Hawaii and Mexico, right here on the
Travel Show.
Welcome back to the Travel Show.
May I express my personal appreciation that you join us here in the Travel Show family.
I've been behind the microphone as host for 34 years.
And I still get giddy just thinking about the show every week.
I have a personal favor to ask.
Several times, four or five times a week, I'll be out and about in the city of the store,
pump and gas or something.
And some will come up and say, oh, you're Larry Gellwicks, you're the getaway guru or
I recognize that voice.
I always, I so appreciate you coming up and saying hello.
It's not a bother.
It's, it's a joy.
It's flattering.
I always like to sit and chat with you for a moment.
Those who've done that, you know, we talked for a minute and yeah, it's a lot of fun.
So if you see me out and about, please, please say hello.
Now, I talked about secret airfares.
I call them secret and we've talked about this before, haven't we?
Because they are airline heavily discounted fares, but we can't sell them air only.
And Morris Columbus is one of the few tour companies that we have our own contracts with
airlines.
Now other travel agencies can get a hold of some of the secret airfares, but they have
to buy it from a third party, which means cost is added to it.
Not so with Morris Columbus with our contracts.
Let me give you an example of Cancun.
Now I, you know, I really do enjoy Cancun.
Let me tell you about Cancun.
There are four places to stay in the Cancun area, Playa Mujeres, which is, it's a luxury
resort area north of Cancun.
And Playa Mujeres, Mujeres is Women's Beat.
So you got Playa Mujeres, just off Isla, Mujeres, the island.
You have the hotel zone in downtown Cancun, the so-called Mayan Riviera, south of Cancun
that leads to Playa del Carmen, which is an absolute joy.
Now people ask, when is the best time?

To visit Cancun, I think anytime from January 1st to and including December 31st.
But it's warm year round.
You're going to get more humidity may through September.
It can get really, really warm down there in June, but if you're in a bathing suit in
the water, who cares?
I like October to April or the best months.
Now one thing I want to tell you about Cancun, have you heard about the Sargassam problem?
That is a seaweed that because of the currents and the wind blows through the Caribbean, really
about April to October.
Now it doesn't hit every beach.
It doesn't hit every island, but it is an issue on the Yucatan Peninsula and Cancun
in that area.
And it's a seaweed that piles up every morning.
Sometimes a lot of it.
Now the nice resorts, they have tractors that just remove it, but some of it's still
in the water.
But you know that doesn't throw me off, folks, because you think when you go to the beach,
you spend most of your time in the ocean or in the luxury swimming pool at your resort.
I hang around by the pool.
I love the beach, but I really love the chase lounge under a palm tree by the pool.
A lot of activities.
And by the way, if you ever run across hot sand at the beach and I, because you're in
bare feet, you're going to have warm sand, but never hot sand in Cancun because the sand
is porous for millenniums.
The coral has been ground down to almost a fine town competitor.
But if you were to look at under a microscope and like who looks at sand under a microscope,
but if you were, you'd see that the granules are porous.
There's an air flow there.
And so yeah, it can be warm sand, but it will not.
I've never had my feet burned on that.
Well, there's scuba, there's snorkeling, great nightlife.
You know, Tulum is famous.
It's a temple complex dating to the 13th to the 15th century.
You know, for those who have an LDS interest in that part of the world, there's guides
right there at the entrance to Tulum.
You go up and say, I'd like a guide is Alma available, is Nephi, is Helaman available.
And you've got some LDS-oriented guides that just answer to book of Mormon names.
So there's so much to do in that area, zip lines, ex, ex, correct, an archaeological
part, Shell, Ha, Underground, Rivers, Wildlife, Cultural Shows.
How about an ATV amphibious vehicle?
Oh, there is from Playa del Carmen, there's a high speed ferry over to the island of
Cosamell, Catamaran sailing.
How about a Mexican cooking class?
Well, there's no limit of what you can do in Cancun.
So let me give you a secret airfare.
I picked here, since we're here at the end of March, and you want a couple of months
to plan, kids are out of school, this is per person based upon double occupancy, and
you can certainly add people to your room.
But I'm talking about two people.
I'm looking at Cancun all-inclusive, that's airfare, meals, drinks, transfers from the
airport to the hotel, your resort, non-motorized activities, even your tips and gratuities.
Now, let me give you the price for, I'm looking the example, June 11th to the 16th, 5-star,
the Ocean Riviera Paradise Beachfront Resort.
If I were to buy that individually, the Southwest airfare, as of today, is $786.
Hotel, I just checked it online, including taxes, this is all per person.
Well, $580 per person, double occupancies, and throwing about $80 for transfers.
That's a total buying each component individually of $1,446 for a six day, five night resort.
You can certainly add days to that.
Now let's use the so-called secret airfare, which also are hotel contracts, instead of
paying $14.46, it's not a bad deal.
If you bought it as a package from Morris, Columbus, using their discounted hotel and secret
airfare, I call them secret because you cannot book it directly with an airline reservation
desk.
They don't know anything about it.
Secret airfare is my term, the actual legal term is tour operator fare.
So it's $14.46, buying everything separately, buy it as a package, you ready for this?
$990.
That's a savings of $446 per person, based upon double occupancy, or as a couple, $892.
That's using the so-called secret airfare, now do keep in mind, these rates are effective
today.
You call on Monday, maybe they've gone down, maybe they go up.
But all rates and promotions are subject to change and availability at the time of booking.
I do.
Hey, here's one in Honolulu, a four star, that's a first class, Ohia, Waikiki, studio
suites.
I was looking in August, $937 per person, that's air, that's taxes, that's hotel.
The only thing that's not included in Hawaii is the so-called destination fee, which has
to be paid locally, no destination fee for Cancun, a lot of fun there.
Well, you know, we introduced a program all about a month ago.

Run a business and not thinking about podcasting?
Think again, more Americans listen to podcasts than add supported streaming music from Spotify
and Pandora.
And as the number one podcaster, IHART's twice as large as the next two combined.
So whatever your customers are into, true crime, sports, comedy, culture, they'll hear
your message.
It's only IHART can extend your message to audiences across broadcast radio, and all
this reach means everything.
Just think about the universal marketing formula.
The number of consumers who hear your message, times the response rate, equals the results.
Now, let's get those results growing for you.

It's the Gems of Southeast Europe, a river cruise with AmaWaterways.
I've told you before, an absolute deluxe river cruise company where my wife, Kathy and
I will be your personal host, and this is one, although I've been to these areas.
This is a river cruise on the Danube that I haven't done.
Keep in mind the Danube goes north, south, and at Budapest there's a bend in the river
and it goes east, west.
This goes into eastern Europe, which still has not caught up with the west.
We will be sailing September 27th to October 4th next year, 2027.
From Budapest to Bucharest, we'll be visiting Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Romania.
Now Raich starts subject to availability at just 39.99 plus your port taxes.
It's about 250 bucks.
That is about a thousand dollars less than buying it directly from AmaWaterways.
Why?
Because you remember I explained inventory risk?
We go in, we just buy the cabins and we know how many we are likely to sell.
We've never been burned on them, but because we're willing to buy them up front and only
a company like Morris Columbus really can do that sort of thing, most can't because it's
a lot of money.
We can buy these cabins and the cabins on Southeast Europe will be discounted anywhere
from about a thousand dollars per person, even up to two thousand dollars per person, depending
on the cabin category that you buy.
And this is on a brand new ship, the AmaRudy, RUD, I got to go online at AmaWaterways.com
and take a look at this ship.
It's going to roll out June or July of next year.
June or July of next year, we're going to see the AmaRudy and it's bigger, but most
cruise ships hold about 160 people.
This one's twice as wide.
Cabins are bigger, but they only increase the passenger count by 30 people.
So you have more room instead of a couple of dining options.
There's four dining options aboard the river cruise, more activities, more everything.
Love to have you join me.
The actual cruise dates, Budapest to Bucharest, Hungary, Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria and Romania,
including Dracula's castle, September 27th to October 4th, 2027, and yes, we'll offer
a pre-cruise Budapest option a couple of days to see the city.
We'll be having some group air fares in the fall.
You see airlines will only publish their schedules and prices about 11 months in advance.
We can't even see schedules or prices now, so figure some time early November of this
year we'll be able to see stuff for fall of 2027.
Now what are some of life's biggest regrets?
A recent poll is absolutely fascinating with people mostly in an older generation as they
look back on their lives.
What are some of my biggest regrets and I'm also going to share with you the personal
philosophy of life that my lovely wife Kathy and I have and try to share with you our
kids and everybody else all that and more on today's travel show.
Welcome back to the travel show.
I'm asking myself, here we are ending the first quarter of the year, the first three months
coming to an end, where does time go?
I just simply don't know, it's pretty exciting.
I've got some exciting travel coming up in April, I mentioned previously the spring break
escape cruise, a five day cruise during spring break, my family, grandkids, everybody's
going and we have about 94 travel show listeners have joined us.
Later in the month is the pearls of Asia, this is a great cruise.
We start in Singapore, spend a few days there, jump with Royal Caribbean and one of their
newer ships and we sell Singapore, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Taiwan and four stops in Japan
and then in May I have another travel show listener group.
We're going to fly to the heady of all places and then cruise a French Polynesia crossing
the equator north through the vast reaches of the blue Pacific to Hawaii and cruise the
Hawaiian Islands, this is going to be a really, really fun time and I'm planning to stay
home in June.
Well, most of June, I got to go to my granddaughters high school graduation in early June, she's back
in Chicago.
Anyway, you know an interesting question I posed, some of life's biggest regrets, you know,
I coach the Highland Rugby team for 36 years, our varsity record when I retired was 418
wins and just 10 losses including 20 national championships in 36 years, just 10 losses.
And we had a team motto, no regrets.
When I became a man of the cloth for three years in the California Fresno mission, that
was the theme of our mission with our missionaries, no regrets, no regrets, doesn't mean no mistakes.
We all have and we'll make mistakes, hopefully they're not intentional.
But no mistakes mean we're trying to do a good thing, we're not perfect, notwithstanding
our weaknesses and mistakes, but our heart is right.
And so a survey was recently taken where 1,200 people, 65 years of age and older, were
tracked over a 10 year period by a professor at Cornell University and then 2,000 baby boomers
were also tracked and they asked them, but let's go to the older one, 65 and above.
And they found this with really people about age 50 years and above in a separate study,
looking back over your life, what are some of your regrets?
Well some people said families, I wish I had spent more time with my kids when they were
very young, I'm trying to make it up, they say with my grandkids, but you know what,
one of the top regrets was I wish I had traveled more.
And as one, as this researcher Carl Palner at Cornell University summed up everything
in one sentence from this survey, when you're traveling days or over, you will wish you
had taken one more trip.
You know, I think I could fill show after show of stories of people who delayed what they're
doing in that.
You know, that kind of leads to the philosophy of life that Kathy and I have, my wife.
We will have been married 49 years next month and looking forward to the big 50 anniversary
next year, we'll probably go on a trip somewhere.
That's what kind of what the Gellwigs family does.
But here's our philosophy of life, whatever it is you want to do, be it travel, health,
exercise, family history, community service, church service, writing, entertainment, whatever
it is you want to do, including travel, do it while you can go while you can.
We all know people who've had a life altering event.
I don't mean a bad day or even a bad streak of luck.
Something has happened.
Maybe it's me, my spouse, my kids, my grandkids, my income, my health, you know, everything.
I've said before, Kathy and I are both cancer patients.
Oh, by the way, the news is all good.
I just said my annual checkup and seems to be okay for now, but it's always on my mind.
You know what?
That's what I've learned.
But whatever it is, so people, you know, with me, my spouse, my family, my income, my
health, suddenly we know people who've had a life altering event.
They simply can't do all these plans.
Maybe it was to go as a senior couple missionary.
Maybe it was to go on that fabulous trip to the South Pacific.
Maybe it was a family gathering.
Maybe it was health education welfare, whatever.
And because of this life altering event, again, not just a bad luck, life altering, they
simply can't do the things that they had always dreamed of.
So you know, whatever it is you want to do, go while you can do it while you can and
live a life of no regrets.
Again, no regrets does not mean no mistakes.
We haven't, we'll make mistakes, but no regret means we're pointed in the right direction.
And our heart is right, we're, you know, we're peacemakers.
Anyway, hey, that wraps it up looking forward to we're headed into April, aren't we?
Talk to you next week right here on The Travel Show.
