UNSHACKLED! Daily Devotionals — The Truth About Sin. Machine-transcribed; use the interactive transcript above to jump the player to any line.
April 9, the truth about sin. Today, we are experts at refashioning recipes so as to avoid any unwanted foods. We can bake a whole cake it seems without using any conventional ingredients. However, the new ingredients we swap into our recipe must behave in a similar way to the original ones. We can't substitute baking soda for flour or salt for sugar. If we do, we will come out with something else entirely. And the doctrine of Christianity is no different. While certain aspects of biblical teaching remain open for interpretation, the key components of our faith are unmovable. If they behave differently, our faith is now an entirely new belief. One of these unmovable components is the reality of sin. To explain this further,
here's a man to share with us his true story. On this, unshackled, daily devotional. I was born into a Hindu family. My name is Ram Bali Singh. But I did not believe in any God. When I was a teenager, I became a communist. On the street, one day a Christian woman told me about Christ. She said, with him, you can spend eternity in heaven without him, you will go to hell. The next day, a bus I should have been on had a terrible accident and that woman was killed. I decided right there to live a good life. I read the holy books of Hinduism and got up early to worship idols. But there were things in my life I could not control. One day, some Christians on the street insisted that Jesus is the only way to God. They told me I was a sinner and I knew they were right. I went to church and heard how Jesus died on the cross for my sins. So I could have forgiveness. Every other religion demands sacrifice of its followers. But Christ sacrificed Himself for us.
Here in His love, not that we love God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for us sins. I gave my life to Christ in 1980 and found a joy I had never known before. My family rejected me. But today I am an evangelist and pastor of two house churches. I have found freedom in Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul states in Romans chapter 5, verse 12, wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world and death by sin. And so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. Friend, the gospel is built on the foundational understanding that we are sinners. If we adjust this component, our faith is no longer biblical Christianity. Sin interprets our condition and how we understand God.
If we gloss over this truth, we become vulnerable to the first sin ever committed and the most common sin in our secular world today. Dismissing our need for God and thinking ourselves quite capable without Him. Will you receive this truth today? Unshackled, the longest running audio drama in history airs on over 3,000 radio stations worldwide. Real people, real life stories, stirring dramatic accounts of hopelessness and the hope that changes everything. Without Jesus Christ, we are all shackled by sin.
