About this episode
Jeremy White and Nate Geary analyze Elliotte Friedman's reports regarding the Winnipeg Jets' difficult situation with goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. They propose a multi-player trade package similar to the Ryan O'Reilly deal and later build a same-game parlay for the 49ers and Rams matchup on WGR.

jermann 護首 Jeremy and Joe, happy Thursday and a FLC season underway. The multiple times, like it's not the same as anything else post Olympic. It leans into the idea, I think without Elliot saying it, that we got from like Mac and Tyre of the Winnipeg Free Press that it's about US Canada.
It's about Halibuk's wife getting online abuse. It's about the Olympics. It's about the geopolitical scene. There's a lot going on. And Halibuk is not one of these guys limiting it to two teams, like some of these other stars. He's telling the jets, I got options. You got options. You need no taxes. I don't need sunshine. Which basically might say like I'd go to Buffalo. Yes. Basically. So anyway, Elliot on the spot the jets are in lays out that basically maybe they were close a while back and things have changed, like no move clauses. And that the GM of the jets has painted himself into a corner because now he has to try and get the price he maybe could have got back then. But he can't. Yep. Because no moves kicked in on July 1st. It's Tim Robinson in the hot dogs suit. We're all trying to figure out who did this. It is the jets GM. So here's Friedman on the spot they're in. And I think I have what might end up being the solution when it's all said and done. They have to do well. This is a very, very important trade for the jets.
And they have to do well. But I think there's a recognition now that this has to happen and is going to happen. And I know the jets are under a lot of heat. The one thing I'll do is all wait to see what this looks like when it's over and what kind of deal they make before I pass judgment. I think the biggest challenge for the jets was realizing that we couldn't go back in time and a deal has to get done at some point. So here's how it happens. One, you try to convince a guy to wave a no move that doesn't want to wave a no move. That's you P L. I'm wondering if we get to Sabre's training camp. Will Luke and Enbi asked directly, did you, did you approach to wave a no move clause? Because everyone see, like everyone has set it without saying it. Friedman said it without saying it. Also maybe he even set it there. I would have heard so many different versions of it. I don't want to put words in his mouth or misrepresent what he said.
So what's the way out for the jets? I think the only way out for the jets is of course to make the move. But it has to be one of those moves where there's one or two pieces that are right and then it's just a bunch of chum in the water. Seven pieces are going to, I'm serious. Seven pieces are going to Winnipeg and two are coming back from whether that's Utah or Carolina because if you're the jets GM, you have to talk about this piece is good and this piece and then sell five other, oh, this guy was a former first-round pick. And this guy is the top prospect in their system. And this guy is playing over the KHL and has put up a lot of points. And then this guy so that you can sell to your fans. Look at the volume, right? I think about the O'Reilly trade for this. The volume of the O'Reilly trade was big. The actual return was small except Tage turned into something. Without Tage turning into something, what was the O'Reilly trade? It was chum pieces.
Berglund, Sabatka, Tage Thompson and a pick. Oh, that looks like a lot. It wasn't really a lot. It turned into a lot because Tage blossomed. So I think you have to do something like that. I don't know if it ends up being Sam Kerrick, not him specifically. Oh, here's a type. Here's three players that are going to help your organizational depth up and down your roster. Maybe when you get a clear waiver, it's going to rot. Six pieces for one is how it gets done, whatever it gets done. So the GM can just plant the flag on the volume of players coming back. That's my solution. I like the solution. I would love that solution for the Sabers. I don't know if they're going to be one that they want to do it. I think I can convince UPL to wave a new move by telling him we're getting this player anyway and you're going to be sent somewhere. I don't go set go be sent somewhere. You can go start.
I don't know. The NHL should have a, they should pass a law that has to happen by tomorrow at 6 p.m. so we can stop talking about it. But maybe training camp next week. Yeah. I mean, the Sabers have a game in like a week. I would say the preseason begins on the 21st, so 11 days. So camp begins in a week. There's almost no way the bills can play Sunday without a Connor Hellebuk training happening prior to it. You can't go in a Monday. You can't start training camp and not have him moved. Well, he's going to not show up at training camp. That's going to, that's going to make it worse. It's going to make it worse. Escalate. Yes. Yes. Anyway. Yeah, he's, they just, they just, they just got a, they just got a, they got sent somewhere. They got the bandaid off. The treatment said Florida did make a play, but then the pieces that they gave up in the Kachak trade would have maybe been in there. Utah Carolina. I don't know. I don't know. Utah. I don't know.
I don't know. If you're Hellebuk, do you want to go to Utah? Pink lakes. Pink lakes. We're back to the pink lakes. We are. Full circle moment. Yeah. All right. Parley Kings. Let's ride. Let's do it again. We got redemption for last night. I killed the parlay because Romeo Dobbs can't catch. It's fine. We don't do this for the, you know, always just for the action. It's also for the camaraderie. The four of us will be in a group chat. Let's watch a game tonight. Each get a leg. It's teamwork. I got to tell you I was pretty glad that I hit my first leg this year. That was kind of a big deal for me. I mean, Kelly hitting the alt on JSN catches. The thing about the, the, the sea hawks, what they do so well, they move him all over the place. When Gonzalez covered him, he didn't catch the ball. Yeah. And they just got him away from Gonzalez. Right. It was quite easy for them to do that. Yes. It's a very good feeling picking a large leg like that and then having it work out. Also Cooper Cup still alive.
Yeah. He is. He had, it was pretty sweet. It's a nice catch. It's pretty good. It's pretty good. Productive Kelly's got his winners glasses on. I do. I got the, the fake cigar and the, the suit jacket too. Figure figure. We'll make it a little bit. Yeah. The paper bag, the parlay killer paper bag. Does it? Do I have to put it on or is it only if you kill, it's only if you kill four leggers. It's, yeah, it's, you know, tomorrow it's going to go on someone. This really needs to get earned. So we'll, we'll, we'll give everyone a pass for, for game one. Niners Rams. Let's have it. Okay. The ones at first. Well, pick a leg in Niners Rams. We'll build out a four leg same game parlay and try to have a little fun. Yeah. I feel very good about where I'm going to go with mine. Go. You want me to go? Go with it. Okay. It's going to be a Devante Adams touchdown anytime. It's plus money. He like had a run of like seven straight games with a touchdown. It's going to be from the one yard line. It'll be a, it'll be a slant or a fade to the corner of the end zone.
I think you can book a Devante Adams touchdown. Okay. Okay. All right. I'll do, we're going to go alt receptions again. We're going to ride it while we can. So it's why he's all Joe. Alt Joe. Christian McCaffrey six plus receptions. I don't think it's that outrageous. Okay. I don't mind it. Yeah. All right. I'm fine with that. I am going to go. I think I'm going to take the over on the pitil receptions, which is I'm struggling to find right now. Where is it? Man, these things are difficult. I do you have to know what the over is before taking. I think you do. I saw it this morning. It's three and a half over three and a half. Yes, I like that. Okay. Three and a half. Absolutely. So we've got ten receptions between Kittle and McCaffrey. You guys didn't talk before this did you? No. Okay. What's wrong with that? They have one healthy receiver. It's John Stribbling is Kittle healthy. He's going to play. Kittle is off the injury report.
Yeah. He's just limited to be limited. I thought about Kittle as my leg here, but I'm nervous. You always have to be nervous about, you know, about... Health and availability. I know. I first came of the year, he's not at the substation or even on the same continent. So I feel okay about it. I just I think that they're going to need to throw the ball short because they're going to be mauled by pass rushers. Speaking of which, I'll take a mile scare at any time, Sack. Ah. Now that feel that felt easy. I don't know why. Like just player to record a Sack. Yeah. So I'm going to go down Garrett, Sack, Kittle and McCaffrey over on catches. McCaffrey's six plus. The game script here, I think, is the Rams are winning and maybe the Niners are throwing the ball. McCaffrey gets a couple of dumps. Which I think. And their receivers are just banged up. Even Evans is still the Z off the injury report. Is that a lingering injury? So that's the plan. Okay. Okay. You're welcome for getting some odds up, guys. Geez. I mean, come on.
We won last year with you. It's the only part that we had. I need something a little safer. I need it. I need it a minus money. After the last night, Romeo, Dom. Yeah, you've been hurt for 30. I've hurt for it. That's right. That's right. All right. The Rams. I saw such an interesting stat on McVeigh. I brought it up quickly. EPA per dropback for play callers. And this I was thinking about this matchup because McVeigh and Shanahan are two guys formerly on the same staff. They're like the two minds people think about offensively in the NFL. And it was EPA per dropback by play collar. And Shanahan's number one in the last 10 years and McVeigh is 14th. Hmm. Right. One thing, man. One thing that the Rams do that in my opinion is a little bit of a volume running. Yes. A little Achilles heel. There's so much running. Yeah. They volume run with a non dynamic run game. Mm-hmm. A lot. Yeah, they volume run.
He likes it. He wins. He does win. And he has a photographic memory. He does. They also do a cool thing that I'm waiting to see like if the bills do this. The Rams have what's it called? It's a hell. I don't know the football term that's been used a lot. An inline release, C gap release. Okay. Like what you'll do is you'll motion the receiver across the formation. And then instead of having them go out for their route out past the tight end, they go between the B gap or the C gap, between the guard and the tackle. And Pukka Nuku is motioning. The snap comes and you can't cover him because he's going through all of those players in the middle. And if you're a defender, like they build in the traffic right out of the gate. Yeah. And it's a cheat code for them. They do a great. I wonder if the bills will employ some of that. Do you feel? Well, nobody touched Pukka, which I thought was. It was interesting. That felt like if you wanted to go safe, Pukka having 100 yards, I mean, he just kind of steps on the field and has 100 yards does he not?
Yeah, they throw to him all the time. They throw to him a lot all the time. His contract is going to be $50 million. If they can... If they keep him on the field. Yeah. That's a big if. I don't, that's also the thing with them. They've, yeah, they've got the Garrett contract. I mean, they signed some big money this off season and they don't have a lot of dead caps. They're pretty healthy moving forward. But that's going to be one of the biggest contracts ever given out. Yeah. And he's a little sketchy off the field. Yeah. He's pretty sketchy. Yeah. He's pretty sketchy. We're going to break in. Get you off to extend the sports in the North Town automotive extra show, extra point show on WGR.
